Like always Fred 62 delivers good diner eats well into the evening. Perhaps I'm aging myself by stating I remember when they OPENED-!! Well all that to say they keep hitting the home runs as far as good foods, efficiently made and delivered to your table. Service is always pro. Ambiance is that of a popular diner, fun, hip, full of chatter at times. Serves all types and ages with the equitable ease of a diner that has been around for a while. My favorite dishes here include the shakshuka (limited hours available), tomato soup, the tuna melt, the coffee with endless refills. Try it out if you haven't yet, you won't regret it.
It was a classic diner experience - a very extensive menu with decent tasting food. It was open very late on a weekday which is perfect because my starving pig boyfriend gets hungry late at night. For the value and taste, you're honestly better off getting a Costco hot dog and making your own butter pasta because this pasta was overcooked and the pasta shape they used was odd. I'd come back to give the milkshakes a try and maybe focus more on the breakfast menu. However, the service was remarkably slow to the point that we had to get up and walk to the other side to find a waiter to pay. The vibes did not disappoint though with the retro booths and low lit lighting :)
Breakfast was excellent. Omellette was amazing and the tater tots but coffee was the one that took my breath away amazing refreshing coffee. Service was nice and quick plus the ambiance gave a retro diner feeling. The only negative thing would be OJ which was not fresh tasted as it came out of a can
Food: 5/5 ordered curly fries with ranch & an Oreo milkshake. Only bummer was the missing cherry. Fries were well-seasoned & great texture! Food came out very quickly & I was happy with the portion sizes. The menu had a wide variety of options. Service: 1.5/5 while the food came out quickly, that was about the only good thing about the service. Server wasn't particularly warm & we had to follow up a couple times for requested items. We didn't even get utensils when we sat & had to wait to flag someone down a few minutes after our food arrived. Things were bussed quickly without being asked if we were finished. Kind of seemed like they just wanted to get rid of us. Ambiance: 4/5 cool atmosphere with comfortable booth seating. Lighting is a bit dim.
You really have to grade LA restaurants on a curve because the food, service, and value are consistently better than what I'm used to in the Bay Area. Fred 62 delivered on all of that. The old-school diner vibe was a nice touch, especially on a rare rainy LA morning. The food came out fast, and the staff were friendly, welcoming, and on top of things. Solid portions, great value, and a comfortable atmosphere. Fred 62 is an easy five stars for me, and I'd definitely come back the next time I'm in town. BB
Stopped by for a late night bite and it's what you would expect from a diner. The service was okay and the food was good. I liked the ambiance and there was a lot of seating options inside. I would probably come back if I was in the area because it was a nice spot to chill with friends and we played card games while eating our food.
This place is great. I mean it's a dinner, it's not trying to reinvent the wheel. Went for pancakes and curly fries at 10pm and it definitely hit the spot. I will say, the prices are higher than I would expect. For 3 pancakes with absolutely nothing else and no sides it was already $14 or $15 dollars. Go for the late night diner vibes with friends and maybe a milkshake if you've got extra cash to burn.
Fred62 has been my go-to destination for early morning and late night food in LA for more than a decade because there is something here for everyone from the vegans to the carnivores with some GF options. With such a wide variety of cuisines, it's not perhaps the best at any particular cuisine (e.g. you won't find the best ramen/pho here, but the noo deli does hit when in the mood). I mostly order a main dish as an excuse to have their milkshakes and bossa nova waffle sundae. Service is always fast and the diner vibes are cozy and strong. Plus, it's open late, which is definitely a plus. Please never change.
Customer service and time from sit down to food delivery = 5 stars. Over all we had a pleasant and memorable experience. We sat outside facing Vermont with ample shading. The restaurant employees served us as a team where everyone asked if we needed something or brought out food/drinks/silverware etc. Everyone we interacted with was friendly. I ate the burger which was not greasy and they put good amount of bacon on burger. Not sure what kind of bun they use but it was different/good. My daughter had the grill cheese and they used some kind of thick bread (maybe sourdough) again, good. The small fries were ok/basic. I would try other kind of fries if they offer. Pricing felt on high end but probably due to the prime real estate location which gave us a beautiful view. Overall food was good and not greasy!!!!
The ambiance is a diner vibe. Open seating. We found seats right away and were served within 10 minutes. The food was just okay. We got burgers and a root beer float. I really liked the tots and fries though. Overall the food was overpriced for just being alright. Nice area. Difficult to park.
I finally tried Fred 62 after driving by it so many times, and I'm glad I did. It's a cute little diner with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. They're open well past midnight, which is always a plus. I loved the vibe--the car-style booths and the hip hop playing in the back gave it a fun, lively feel. Just a cool spot to end the night. Seated right away and greeted by a friendly + attentive waiter. The coffee was a bit mediocre and watered down, but the food portions were solid and priced fairly. We tried the chicken tenders, a salad, and the cheeseburger--everything was okay. Happy to finally cross this place off my list.
Fred 62 is a classic spot with a blend of past and present. As cool as it gets in the city of Los Feliz. This longstanding Los Angeles restaurant located on the corner of Vermont Avenue/Russell Avenue, just a beat down from Franklin Avenue has a lot to offer and then some... Bringing you an extensive menu variety with cool ambiance, retro decor and a crew of servers, managers, cooks that will have you nostalgic for more. Stopped in with my boyfriend who actually recommended Fred's as a favorite of his and our friend Andrew after a nice morning stroll and hike. We got guided to a great booth toward the back with plenty of room for three. Our sever was the absolute best, believe he might be the main manager here (I'm bad with names after a five mile hike #hungrysaidfred). He was more attentive, friendly, funny, and above an beyond. I knew F62 had/has an extensive menu, but did not know they had this amazing plant-based menu (with clearly labeled items throughout for vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free friendly options) as well nearly mirroring everything they make traditional and classic. It's comfort and quality food for all and I'm an instant fan! From Avocado or French Toasts to Falafel Plates, Chilaquiles, Burritos, Burgers, Bowls and more... You'll absolutely be hooked. Fresh hot delicious coffee, juices, teas, sodas, milkshakes (including dairy-free), beer, wine, still and sparkling water. A place that feels like that homey timeless diner with modern flare. Fun things to note: Happy Hour Monday through Friday from 2pm to 7pm. Street metered parking or lot paid parking. Gender neutral restrooms (clean as can be). Outdoor seating available. Maybe it's just because I have a strong emotional attachment to this place after years of coming here, but I really don't understand the negative reviews. The food is great, the service is fast and kind, and the vibes are immaculate. You won't be disappointed. I love the California Omelette or OG Fairfax High

The fourth star is back :( I had a rave review up a while ago but took it down because I got petty after the recent menu change. Then, the lost item returned! Now it's gone again. I cannot stress this enough: the Partridge Family was the best thing ever. This dish, consisting of an AMAZING corn casserole that would blow away anything your grandma ever made at Thanksgiving, perfect fried chicken, delicious sautéed kale with cherry tomatoes, and half a waffle is perfection. Allegedly, the Partridge is now a special but in three weeks it hasn't been available once. So I guess we're back to the almost as good Chicken and Waffles. Sal cooks his arse off in that kitchen and when I see him back there I know everything will be great. Now and again he goes full Michelin on me and plates a dish as if he's serving a king. When have you ordered medium rare at a diner and actually gotten it? Sal does it. Even if it's not a complicated dish, the attention is still there and things are perfect. And fast. Once I sent my breakfast burrito back cause it was so fast I thought it belonged to someone who ordered before me. Jose is great. He knows me and my order and has been great from the start. Kimberly is always fun to talk to and I just met Lauren tonight and she's great. Sarah is also super fun and totally takes care of me. The new Hot R sauce is delicious and though it almost killed me, the Hella Hot Pasta is great. The chili is always cold. No idea why. Once I asked to please make sure it was hot. It was cold. Breakfast (and the brunch specials) are exactly what you're after, speciI've never had the late night menu. I'm curious, but I have normal sleep patterns. Let's talk about dessert. This is a place for milkshakes, so start there. Their ample supply of flavors allows for any reasonable flavor combination you can think of, including the "Moon Monkey" (I call it that, Fred's doesn't) which is of course a chocolate/banana shake. There are also seasonal flavors (pumpkin spice in the fall). The ice cream also pays off on the insane bossa nova waffle, which is a danger to behold. Go for it. They keep the iced cream soft here for the sake of shakes, so it doesn't work by the scoop, and I'm not particularly wild about punk tarts a la mode either. Too melty, and punk tarts are a smidge over priced anyway though tasty. Coffee is good and plentiful (iced options too), but they can't seem to get the right amount of foam on a latte. Food was really good. Unfortunately when we arrived I was in a bit of a rush because my son was at low blood sugar and was starting to crash. Service very helpful and quick. Very good meal, reasonable prices. Pie! read more

Why do I keep saying yes to eating Fred 62's food? If you're desperate, eat here. We ordered for pickup. Got it all home, opened two boxes of salads that cost $14.99 each and barely got anything but lettuce, a few shreds of Chinese cabbage, chicken, and I think about 4 pieces of shredded carrots. The salads were in a huge brown box and the food that sat in the box covered 1/4 of it. Not that I'm looking to supersize but I expect more for $14.99. And here we were trying to avoid a $12+ charge (includes taxes and other fees) for delivery from a service like Postmates. Note: hubby had an Abi salad which he said was good. Ridiculous. Maybe their other overpriced food does well with the 20-30-somethings who go in there to eat but I'm not havin it. It's a waste of money and what you get is tasteless and expensive for simple fare that should taste better. Never ordering or going back here again. It'll be my last choice as far as 24-hour or anytime spots. I'd rather head to The Pantry DTLA or stay home, eat a PB&J with a glass of milk, and call it a night. Dare to try it if you will but if you want your money's worth, look for other options in the Los Feliz area if you're not looking for 24-hour place to eat. If you are looking for a 24-hour restaurant/diner, then I strongly suggest you do your homework before going to this place. read more

Came for a quick catch-up brunch with two friends. Didn't know I was coming with two regulars of the spot! Haha The inside had a very cool retro style bar and booths for seating but we opted for outdoors to enjoy the weather. My buds immediately recommended me the New Amsterdam.. so that's exactly what I got. I ordered with scrambled eggs and bacon. It came with a slightly spicy sauce on the side which was delicious to dip into every now and then. It was pretty reasonably sized and I was satisfied with what I had. I would've, personally, enjoyed a little side to munch on as well but now I know for next time! The service was super kind and always walking by to make sure all was good. Recommend for a nice brunch w friends or a late night milkshake! read more

Better than average diner food in a typical diner setting. The grilled cheese sandwich with potato chips inside was good, but the fried chicken waffle sliders were not. I was expecting wholesome fried chicken and was instead disappointed to find a chicken patty between a sad waffle with a slab of collard greens. read more

Thoroughly enjoyed their "Beyond No Animal Burger"--my first beyond meat patty experience ever! The burger was awesome. From the bun to the pickled jalapenos to the vegan cheese, I was in heaven! I am honestly shocked at how much I liked it since I eat meat on the regular. We also got a side of sweet potato fries. They were standard, don't think sweet potato fries vary much. We ended our meal with a mixed berry poptart and it was phenomenal. The dough that forms the crust for the poptart is insanely good. One of the best I've ever had. Maybe even the best. They should consider making pies with it. The berry filling was great as well. Cranberry definitely stuck out but you could taste the other berries too. Very yummy and I'm glad it was served warm. It's 24/7, 365 days a year. It's LA-famous. And I don't think anyone will tell you it's that good. It just "is". No matter what time of day I go to Fred 62 it always seems to be full of loud talkers and drunk people (same people I guess). It's not easy to park. And although the food at Fred 62 isn't bad, I always leave sad because I realize that Palermo is just down the street - a much better old school LA experience for sure. Anyway, we came because it was late and we needed sustenance and there were tables available and my SO has never been here. I did the same thing I always do... stare at the menu for a long time. It's not a small menu, but I just don't find much appealing on said menu. There are breakfast and diner type lunch/dinner choices. But nothing ever really sounds that good to me - some odd mixing of ingredients in order to satisfy the LA aesthetic. Like chicken sausage in an omelette or a tofu scramble. I guess I'm more of a diner purist... if you're claiming to be a diner, be like Norms and don't attempt to give me seitan and call it meat. So after a long time perusing the menu, I settled on a tuna melt ($9) with a side of fries (extra $3 I believe). It was OK. I think the price was right although the add on of fries is a little high. But they're shoestring fries, which I do enjoy. My SO had the "No Animal Burger" ($9) and fries. She enjoyed her veggie burger but isn't so much a fan of shoestring fries. Service was fast but I wouldn't say it's the warmest or most professional. It's a hipster joint so you expect that. I think you either love this place or are just like "meh..." and I'm pretty solidly on the side of "meh...". read more
I rarely go to dinners for a bite because food is typically fried food, burgers, and pancakes which I rarely crave. After a night of mid-week drinking with cousins, one of my cousins recommended Fred 62 since it's open 24/7. We had a cousin from Japan who moved back for grad school. He was craving something "different" after spending the last 15 years in Japan. I guess you can say he's sick of ramen, sushi, and rice dishes. Anyways, I ordered french toast and all I can say is that it's the best french toast I've ever had. Thick and eggy with powdered sugar with just enough syrup. Damn good! Had some bacon that my cousin shared and damn, that was good too. Thick and had a great smokey flavor. Tried the espresso milk shade and it was all good too. The waffles with dulce de leche syrup was good also. Service was good. Food came out quick and our waitress was really friendly. I'll be coming back for late night eats at this spot if I'm craving breakfast. Great quality food. Wouldn't expect that from a diner. read more

Thanks to my two handsome dates Kevin and Eli for joining me at the counter around 3A for a little sobering up food, glad Fred 62 is open 24 hours. I had whatever Melinda, our fabulous server said was the best breakfast - french toast, it may have been crunchy with strawberries and lots of whip cream. and a few bites of Eli's waffle drizzled with condensed milk with ice cream on top (one will never deny a good looking man feeding her dessert food). Holy wow! It's no wonder I feel a bit full right now. I'd totally come back to this place to try it again in a more sober state when my taste buds are a bit more normal. read more
I REAAALLLLYY didn't want to come here. I just wanted some freakin tacos you know? Dinner was supposed to be fish tacos but BFTIE was closed. MALO was runner up but we didn't get to eat there because the service there sucks so we left. Dinner was thai food, then we drank, and of course afterwards, i just want some tacos! someone told us there was machos tacos around the corner. alas, it was closed by the time we got there. so, we HAD to come to fred 62 cuz I wasn't about to drive far for some late night grub. We ordered the nachos and the mac and cheese. I can't believe I was so mean before. Both tasted fine. we were not really hungry - just trying to sober up and the food was pretty good. Now, I don't know if it was just good cuz we were tipsy or what but we cleaned our plates. It wasn't crowded at all on Monday at 1:30 am. Also, this idiotic dood came and sat next to us and started talking, "Hey, I'm really drunk right now. That's why I'm sitting here talking to you guys. How are you?" I kindly told him to leave us the EFF alone and he walked over to his friends. The waiter came by right after and asked if were okay. That's so sweet. Yooooooo WHAT THE HELL FRED 62?! Please explain to me who had the bright idea of putting on the menu 5 "Granade mac&cheese balls" for $10 when they're the size of Cheetos puff balls?! How are you gunna serve these things along side condiment cups bigger than the actual food item?!THATS WILD! Oh, and let's not forget that I bit into one only to be met with a cold spot - literally, frozen! I drove completely out of my way to come here and bring my date here for the first time and what a freaking disappointment! I used to love you guys! YALL ARE WRONG FOR SCAMMING PEOPLE OUT OF $10 for something not even worth $1.50! Decent service, open 24 hours a day, Fred's is your hipster version of a 24 hour Denny's or Norm's. Have their breakfast, their specialty sandwiches, and their classic American fare. You can people watch with a table on Vermont (outside seating) or grab a nice table inside. The prices are reasonable, the food is decent. read more

I've been coming here for about 15 years. The food used to be GREAT and the service used to be mehhh... but now it's backwards. Looooved the service (yay Zachary!) but the food was mediocre. I got waffle sliders: fried chicken on mini waffles. If they would've used Eggo's, that would've been better. These were dry and floppy and so not good. Chicken was okay. My friends got pulled pork (eh), sloppy joes (better) and a couple Keto friendly dishes that were average. Total for 5 of us was around $115 after tip. Bit much for this quality. Still, loved the service, atmosphere, and late hours. read more

DineLA 2014 was upon us, and I was excited to see Fred 62 as a participant, so I wasn't going to miss this opportunity to finally try this place so close to home. Their DineLA lunch special ($15.00) seemed like a steal that I took advantage of, and boy was it worth it! After a busy day, this was how my first meal of the day went: "Lemonade of the Day" ($3.00 normal price) - Mango, you say!? Bring it on! This wonderfully refreshing drink served in a Mason jar also had small bits that required you to use your fork to pick them out. I forgot to ask if there were refills. As for the food, it arrived no more than five minutes later. It was a very manageable lunch crowd. Well done! Parking - Merely 1 1/2 miles from my pad, I walked and built up my appetite. Otherwise, there were both metered and non-metered parking on all the surrounding streets such as the main drag of Vermont Ave. Just be mindful of the posted signs. Atmosphere, décor, ambience - For all intent and purposes, this was one spacious cool retro classic diner a la "Back to the Future" with its counter seats, upholstered booths, and a wonderful assortment of characters from both near and far. I especially liked the inside wall which hung draw Hollywood actors and actresses...and I spotted James Stewart! Weather-permitted, have your meal outside along the sidewalk at one of their brightly yellow tables so you could people-watch and get some color. There was plenty of electric and natural lighting. Several ceiling fans for those hot SOCAL days. The staff was totally cool, the menu varied - they also had a handful of daily dishes that paid tribute to the TV dinners of yore as well as some famous boob-tube characters (e.g. the Lisa Simpson). And, they're open 24/7/365!!! I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (total bill was around $17.00 before tip). I was really looking forward to Fred 62, but I was slightly disappointed. The tofu chilaquiles were not as tasty as I had imagined. They were very bland and lacking in the salt department. The boyfriend ordered a sandwich, and i have to comment that their fries were super tasty. I would definitely give their food another try. However, I was very disappointed by the lack of service. We sat for 20 minutes, outside, in the cold (the heaters are placed far away from the seating areas) without any help. Granted, it is very busy at 1:30 AM but, I wish we could have been at least given water. We were pretty parched after a Crystal Castles concert at the Palladium. I also noticed that parties were being served out of order which is a little frustrating because we were starving and I have a whole issue with waiting forever for food. If you are looking for a 24 hour diner, I'd go elsewhere if you wanted to be served in a reasonable amount of time. Also, the food isn't so amazing that it is worth the wait. read more

Finally my sister takes me here, after forever telling me about it. The yelp reviews were mixed and she said it was because the service kind of sucks but the food is yum. So anyways we get here, and because so many different things sound so good and its my first time here, we decide to order the Tofu Chilaquile, Alice's Egg Sandwich, and the MacDaddy and Cheese Balls to share. First off my sister was right. The service here sucks. Trying to get someones attention to take your order or bring you your check is problematic. However the food here is delish. Especially the Alice Sandwich. Oh and the Cheese Balls, I'm pretty sure are just deep fried cheese, which of course is never a bad thing. I'd totally come here again, even with the spotty service. read more
Sorry for another update... but, I just merged all my thoughts over the years into one. VISUAL IMPRESSION: At one time I enjoyed the old, tired Hollywood flare that this 24/7 eating establishment has. Compete with sketches upon the walls of famous actors and actresses from days gone by. I liked the semi-circular booths that have headrests on them, like a late 50s car would. Of late, they have strung up, what is basically a tarp with the giant image of a hot sauce bottle on it. If the goal was to get the patron's attention... they met their goal but, if the goal was to detract from the ambiance and promote a bit of tackiness beyond the aging paint that your average hipster smiles because it is retro, well it looks like they have nailed that too. PRICE VS. FLAVOR: I thought the menu to be a delight that would seemingly offer something for everyone. And it does, but, of the items I have tried none seem to come with the savoriness that should accompany it's price tag. They do have the skill set to entertain, especially within the menu, where you can find a section for late night dining. I believe it is called "Drunkards and Stoners." In the past I have posted receipts in relation to the food pics to a test market of peers on social media... I think the biggest complaint came in the form of verbal the frowns on the size of the milkshake to the $5 price tag. At 3 in the morning I have learned that it is better, unit price-wise, to hit Vons for the ingredients. BURGER TIME: Burger Time is not just a forgotten video game title... It is a real thing and it can occur anytime, day or night. The turkey burger here arrived at my table without and bang for the buck. Compared to Fatburger's flavorful double turkey offering with all kinds of other amazing toppings, I say save you money in this one... Truthfully, if poultry WAS your game, I would sent you to Stout on Selma and Cahuenga for a "Low and Slow" chicken burger. I eat out of necessity but, more like flavorful necessity. And with the Low and Slow you can't be any closer to Memphis without standing on Beale Street. The best turkey burger in town, by my tatsebuds was at Dave and Buster's (yes I do travel all over the area trying them... if you know of a good one -friend me then tell me where it is) but, management at the Hollywood location has informed me that they recently pulled it, due to low sales (they were Butterball "seasoned" burger patties, so you can get them at the grocery store and places like costco... I am not sure what Fred's is but, I would like to know). PARKING: This can be a bit of a challenge to find on the street, depending on when you visit. There are pay lots a short walk away, like the one behind the Dresden... but, since I totally love this quaint section of L.A. and walking... we have started parking so that we get our daily walk before and after the meal. LATEST EXPERIENCE: Waffle 10 bucks. That is ok.. What isn't? The annoying blonde waitress. I hate overly intrusive wait staff. NOTE: If I haven't opened the menu and I am reading my Yelp review to see what I ate here last time... and this has been clearly stated.... then please don't come to me 4 times in approximately 5 minutes to ask me what I want. I want to read, then order, then eat. Pay the check and recommend this place. MILITARY STRATEGY: If I come back here, probably not, I would take the menu and go sit in the head... although I wouldn't be surprised if she stuck her head in there to ask me if I was ready to order. Maybe I should have read the menu on-line, called my order in and then just ate at the counter. Yep, I need tactics to eat here. REFLECTION AND THE FUTURE: In the past the food has been subpar.. Short on flavor, high on price. Based on blondie... I will take my business across the street. To the House of Pies where I have never felt rushed or if a drive is not a terrible option, then I strongly recommend The Pan in Pasadena. Bookmark it now.... I'll wait. VOLUME NOTE: This has the tendency to be a loud place, no one is shouting on purpose, no one is wanting you to hear their latest comedic tale or success story. Itvis just that the acoustics are that of a carpetless diner. This is 100% normal. I will say that if loud is bad in your book, then do note that this place is known for loud drunk people in the early hours of the day. Now, if you are one of them, then you'll fit right in. REMORSE: I want to apologize for actually being the Yelp Duke here at one time (2016). Now I know better. So, if this is your regular stop... I take great pride in saying that you will have two more seats available after today. Cheers! read more
