Old Gold is a local pizza shop hidden on the corner of Vermont and Hollywood offering a unique Sicilian-like pizza in a casual atmosphere. I swung by on a Thursday for lunch, entering a clean, well organized space filled with sports memorabilia, movie posters, and playing alt rock that matches the vibes any late Gen X / early Millennial would appreciate. I was greeted by Kelli who walked me through the menu, made recommendations, informed me which slices were available and which would require a 12min wait. I chose the 'Ndjua (a pork sausage similar to andouille) and Fig Jam ($8) which came out quickly. Crispy cheese on the edges, thick focaccia bread, creamy ricotta and mozzarella, and cut with spicy sausage and sweet fig jam. I would have liked it to be yet a little more crisp around the edges and thicker / more sausage, but I'm being critical - this was a phenomenal slice - I wish I got two! Prices, above, are a little on the elevated side, but for an independent pizza place offering such quality pizza, I don't mind paying a couple extra dollars. Half pies range from $24-30 and whole pies $35-45. Special mention should be made for the service - Kelli was exceptionally knowledgeable about the menu, offered a side of pesto gratis for a colleague whose favorite Red Flag pizza wasn't available right away, and checked in with me after a few bites. 5 stars. I work in pizza and I am a big pizza lover. Recently on my days off I have been going out of my way to try what others are calling the best pizzas in LA. Old Gold was solid. In store I had a pepperoni slice that had a vodka base and pesto. I gotta say the vodka sauce was on point. I also ordered 2 slices to go, the Elote and the Crab Rangoon. At the time they didn't have the Crab Rangoon in the case but the cashier assured me if I was willing to wait they were happy to make one for the case. I thought that was pretty cool of them. She suggested a salad so I got a Caesar salad and a drink as well. She also suggested I do the hot honey on the Elote so I added that too. She threw in a ranch so I could try it which was cool. Overall it was genuinely great service. I was a little shocked by the total, I don't have the receipt but it was $55.79 after tip. I got 3 slices (one with hot honey), a salad, and a can of coke. I would've thought because she was suggesting the salad that there was some sort of lunch combo even though I was kind of coming at the end of lunch just before 4 o'clock. As I sit here and write this, I'm still thinking about that total trying to decide if I was overcharged for something that I didn't get, and since I don't have a receipt I may never know... Some honest feedback. The salad was a little tangy, in a citrusy sort of way, did not remind me of Caesar salad. And the ranch reminded me of tartar sauce, again tangy in a citrusy sort of way. All the slices, were killer. I will say when I brought home the salad my son loved it. Both my husband and daughter agreed the ranch tasted like tartar sauce and that they probably wouldn't want it on most types of pizza, but it might be good on the right thing. My recommendation is to go there for the slices and maybe get a print out of your receipt if the total seems high. I will likely be back to try some other slices and to get a T-shirt when I start repeating restaurants. It's safe to say I agree that this is some of the best slices in LA. read more

It isn't deep dish. It isn't Sicilian. It isn't even focaccia with toppings. This isn't pizza. It's an abhorration. I would expect nothing less from Los Angeles with its overpriced, gimmicky fusions. Investigate the toppings options and this will support my claim. Old Gold's Red Flag pizza is described as "Vodka sauce and pesto cream," but first the controversial dough is a slightly sweet, light as air cloud of white bread with a lightly crisp bottom. It melts in the mouth. Two slices evaporate like eating cotton candy. As for the toppings, for all that cloud bread, it needed more red sauce and the pesto was non-existent. This spot is turning out amazing pizza! They've got your classics like cheese and pepperoni while also having inventive options featuring clams, figs, and other toppings. I chose to go classic and got the 1/2 Godson pizza. This was a Sicilian style pepperoni pizza with this delicious crusty and fluffy crust, while the other ingredients tasted incredibly fresh like they were just picked up at a farmers market. Wow! We also ordered the focaccia. Please note the focaccia is huge and incredibly delicious, I ended up making Italian style sandwiches with it the next day. Though I've walked by this spot many times before and always thought the interior looked nice, I opted for delivery. The delivery was incredibly quick and everything arrived warm and perfect. Space is small but there are tables inside that mostly fit 2 or 3 people. It's a good place to hit up before or after a show in the area or other activity. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. The square slices are good and pretty reasonable. I had a slice of The Old Gold and The Real Fun Guy, and and we shared a Vegan Caesar. Both slices were tasty. My only issue was that I could not cut either slice with the plastic knife. That definitely made eating it without making a mess all over my face a bit harder, so extra napkins, but all good. New pizza spot (as of late 2025) that's located on the stretch of Hollywood Blvd. in Los Feliz bordering East Hollywood. They specialize in thick, puffy (focaccia like? - makes sense since they sell focaccia here as well) pizzas where you can order by the slice or whole pizzas as well. The space is clean and pretty svelte with a few small tables and a counter, so while you can eat here, this place looks to be primarily take out. I wasn't there too long to thoroughly look at the choices, but their creations range from more familiar toppings to some fun, creative slices/pizzas. The folks here are super friendly and helpful and this place just exudes a cozy neighborhood vibe. I had just gotten out of a movie down the street and was feeling a bit peckish. I walked over here to grab a slice to tide me over until I was going to meet up with some friends later. I ended up ordering a slice of the 'Goon Squad', which I'm 99% sure it's their purposeful take on crab rangoon in pizza form. The location is still fairly new so you may have accidentally walked past by it, but be on the look out for the yellow painted storefront! We were lucky and they happened to be open on Monday and there was no line when we first got there. There are some seating in the vicinity but only a few 2 people tables and a bar seating area. They specialize in Sicilian pies and their slices are generous. The slices range about $4.50-$6ish dollar which may seem pricey but they are so worth it! I got the Fun Guy and Godson and devoured both within minutes! Remember to ask for ricotta and honey & to also try some of the chili oil they have out! I loved that they had vegan cheese options for those who want to add extra cheese to their pizza. The staff were very helpful. We were told that if there is something on the menu that isn't in the display window, let them know and they can make it. It just takes 15 minutes so please account for the time. Coming from New York, I cannot find a good slice in LA (sorry, but come on!) so I was initially reluctant to try Old Gold, especially bc of the square slice/thick crust (again, I'm comparing it to the large, thin crust slices in NYC), but I walk by often and the smells kept luring me in until I finally caved. This pizza is its own beautiful thing. It's not New York. It's not trying to be, like a lot of LA joints where it's overpriced soggy pizza cracker. The slices of pizza are a decent size the price does not match as its bigger than the size of the pizza itself, the service is as good as it gets for a small shop on a lonely corner, the ambiance I can't say much about as both times I was there my orders where to go but it seemed stale, boring impaired of any ambiance. My only complaint is the two slices of pizza I had were burnt to a crisp which I still ate one because I was very hungry and two because I paid 14 bucks because of their ridiculously overpriced add-ons. On my first visit, I ordered the 'Nduja and Fig Jam slice (about $10 w tax and tip) and received the saddest skimpiest corner piece with barely any toppings and no detectable 'Nduja. The perfect pizza in LA DOES exist. I'm constantly impressed by the quality here, and trust me, I am the number one pizza snob. The traditional Sicilian square slice has perfectly caramelized edges and is still so airy inside. The focaccia base is insanely light and fresh, and you can really tell they use quality ingredients and put love in every pie. Honestly, everything I've tried here has been spectacular, no notes. It's truly now a Los Feliz neighborhood classic. I also love that they have specials running, so definitely check out their Instagram. The pizza is good I really like Sicilian style pizza but every time I come here the pizza is burned on the bottom. I used to make pizza for like 7 years and was taught by an old Italian guy from brooklyn and part owner of Tao restaurant and loved making the Sicilian square pizza but I always made sure it wasn't burned on the bottom. So please old gold owner make sure your cooks put enough olive oil in the pan and check constantly that the bottom of the pizza in not burning its takes a few seconds. I asked for a SPECIFIC corner slice. they confirmed. they gave me the wrong slice and then they put that slice into a bag when I said it was for here and then I asked for another slice then they gave me the wrong slice again until I corrected them and when I got the slice the "cook" guy using his bare hands to grate the cheese was nice enough to give me an extra slice after messing up twice, but after eating both slices they weren't even hot although it was in the oven. it was room temperature slices and borderline cheese was cold. Why would anybody pay $5 for a slice of cheese where it's mostly bread and the slices are too tall you gotta have a big mouth to eat it?
