    Wings and Downeast cider
    Maria B.

Stopped here once before and loved their wings, so we wanted to see if they would be equally good. The didn't disappoint! It was a beautiful day and we enjoyed the sunshine while eating outside. Our server Bella was delightful and suggested the Downeast Cider draft. I'm not a big cider fan, but this was light and refreshing. Hubby got a Carlsburg Pilsner, but they have a very extensive bar to accommodate all whims. Ordered the 6 wings with the Cajun dry rub. I ordered the cheesesteak eggrolls which came with an excellent cheese sauce and scallions. The smashburger tacos were cooked to perfection. Just a little pink on the meat and the lettuce, tomato and fixings were just the right amount to balance the tacos. I highly recommend!

This place was awesome, we stopped in for lunch, and they're a great little tavern. The bar food was delicious, and their crab cake sandwich was SO good! Our service was great and I'm sure it gets packed on the weekends!

Our first time and Fred & Ethel's and everything was great. The restaurant itself is nice, rustic feeling, with indoor and outdoor seating (weather permitting.) We got the cheesesteak egg roll app, bang bang shrimp salad, kids chicken nuggets, and classic burger. Everything was cooked perfectly and came out quickly. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful. Absolutely will be back.

When we walked in the ambiance of the restaurant was very cool. It felt like an old tavern. It was very slow that day so we were seated right away. Our waitress was super nice and helpful. I wish I could remember her name. We shared the cheesesteak egg rolls and they were delicious. The cheese sauce was great. For our meal we shared the shrimp tacos and short rib grilled cheese. The tacos were very flavorful. I have to say I'm not a person who eats a grilled cheese sandwich very often because I think they're boring. This sandwich was not that way. It was excellent. From the short rib, the sauce and the bread the entire sandwich was great. I had a beer which came out nice and cold and very good. The food came out quick and hot.

My coworkers and I decided to visit Fred and Ethel's for happy hour after work one Wednesday evening. I had only ever been to Fred and Ethel's on the weekend when there's an insanely long wait, so to walk in and get seated immediately was a pleasant surprise. Our group of 4 started with drinks and appetizers, buffalo wings and the buffalo chicken wontons. My rum punch was a little on the strong side, but I know some people love it like this so I'm not complaining. I prefer my mixed drinks to taste like juice so that's my own fault. The buffalo chicken wontons were AHHHH-mazing. I'm still thinking about how perfectly crispy they were with just the right amount of spice. For entrees, I did the bacon cheeseburger tacos and the fries with gravy and beer cheese because I love disco fries and these seemed similar. The bacon cheeseburger tacos came with three stuffed tacos that were huge. I could have shared and would have if someone else wanted to share with me. The beer cheese on the fries was good and even though the cheese and gravy made the fries soggy it was nothing a little fork usage couldn't handle. Other members of my party got chicken tenders and fries and fish and chips, but the menu has sooo many unique offerings you need to visit with foodies who like to share and are willing to try a bunch of different items. I was pleasantly surprised and I definitely will visit again. Our server was super friendly and attentive too.

Came here for first time for lunch. Friendly and nice staff. Food came out quickly and atmosphere was very pleasant. Definitely try the grilled cheese short rib sandwich. Great for kids and larger groups. Definitely great place for lunch when in Smithville.

We had no wait for a table around noon, although they were briskly busy on this holiday. Our server was relaxed and not bothered by the commotion, took his time and helped us through our choices. No brunch cocktails for us, we dug right in to meals. I chose the peach burrata caprese salad plate with a side of blackened chicken breast. Although the menu said the peaches would be grilled, they were cold. Perfectly ripe and firm, a great sweet contrast to the balsamic vinegar drizzle. Creamy burrata, basil, and sliced grape tomatoes rounded out the plate. This was a superb salad. The grilled chicken was a $6 add and came on a separate plate. Generous sized, the breast was well seasoned and tender. We took some home with spouse's plentiful potatoes from the skillet. Spouse went with the meat lovers skillet with scrambled eggs and wheat toast. The skillet had ham bacon sausage and cheddar cheese with a huge pile of potatoes and two scrambled eggs. It also included wheat toast. This was a lot of food! This is a bright, well lit, smartly decorated restaurant, where I would love to have spent time at happy hour. Good service, good food, not overpriced at all. Maybe another visit next time we're in New Jersey!

Our waitstaff, Ben and Brittany, were phenomenal. They were attentive, accommodating, and went above and beyond to make sure everything went smoothly. I have a special dietary restriction, and they were kind enough to prepare a separate plate for me instead of having me choose from the main buffet. We also arrived a little early to put up some small decorations, and Ben was incredibly helpful in getting everything set up. The views were beautiful, and the food was delicious. Inside, there appear to be separate rooms available for private parties as well as regular dining, which makes it a cozy and versatile place for celebrations and larger events. My entire family was very pleased with how everything turned out. Another bonus is the location--it's situated in a charming little town with shops within walking distance, making it a great place to explore before or after your meal. Overall, we had a wonderful experience and would definitely consider returning for another special occasion!

Served quickly and hot in a big, wide bowl. It looked good. Had small, irregularly sized potatoes and chopped carrots. The broth was a little thicker than I imagined or had tasted before in other restaurants, or in the one I make. Clams were tiny and, as you'd expect from a can. Not fresh clams. In fact, you can put all the clams found in chowder in a single tablespoon. Even found a whole bay leaf in it, which should have been removed before serving it. So, how is the chowder? I've had better from canned chowder, and the one I make is way better. Zero stars for the chowder. Next up is the Turkey platter with sliced turkey (hard and dry), 1 ice cream scoop of mashed potatoes (ok, nothing special), 1 ice cream scoop of stuffing (totally disgusting, and had corn in it), string beans (with vine still attached), gravy (terrible), and a little cup of cranberries (decent). Total fail. The waitress was ok, though stopping by every 5 minutes to ask if everything was good was quite annoying. The 'ice water gentleman' was great. You never asked for water, and when the glass was 1/2 empty, he was there refilling it. Great job! The final score of 2 stars is for the historic inn's ambiance and layout. We won't be back, and do not recommend.

Initially, things seemed promising as everyone placed their orders and most of the group received their meals fairly quickly. Unfortunately, another family member and I, who had both ordered the same entrée, were left waiting. Approximately 20 minutes later, when the rest of our party was nearly finished eating, our server informed us that the restaurant was out of tuna and that we would need to choose something else. It was very disappointing that it took so long for us to be notified. I ultimately ordered the mahi tacos, but they lacked flavor and were quite underwhelming. I attempted to ask for Tabasco sauce, but our server did not return to our table for quite some time to check on us. When she finally came back, I ordered another Tito's and soda and asked if it could be made as a double because my first drink tasted mostly like club soda. She informed me that the drink I had already been consuming was a double, which was surprising given the taste. At that point, I switched to water. Several others in our group were also disappointed with their meals and did not enjoy their selections.
