Fred and Joey are great guys and they do excellent work. I live in a high-rise and Fred has said he prefers not coming here given the difficulty of parking, the elevators, etc but has always been professional and willing to do the job which I greatly appreciate. He is also a great guy to talk to and I always enjoy catching up with him. He was just here yesterday to install a new kitchen faucet - called him at 9am, repeating multiple times it was not urgent so call back when you can and he had the job done by 1pm that afternoon. He also did my garbage disposal a few months ago and rebuilt a toilet last year that - all work has held up beautifully and those jobs were also done with the utmost care, workmanship and professionalism. Everything was fine up until I asked simply for a written quote after he had done his inspection for a water heater replacement. Never have I seen such defensive behavior, and I mean he did a complete 180. He clammed up, asked why I was wasting his time, and told me to continue "shopping around", and left without giving me another word in. Just like that. The thing is, as a diligent consumer, I had already shopped around. I was actually about to hire him for the job since he was offering me the lowest price, and I just wanted a written quote so as not to get screwed over later... it's common sense to have a written agreement. First, let me say recently i been having soon plumbing issues. it started last year with a emergency leak in my HVAC room (it did not have anything to do with the HVAC. There are pipes going through the room). I called Len the plumber, it costed over $600 to snake out 1 of the pipes. Then 6-8 months later the same thing happened, this time i called RotoRooter. They charged $800 for it. Then last month i needed to replace the faucets and repair the toilet in our main bathroom. I tried Len again, this time it was over $1000. Well thanks to a recommendation from a parent at my son's school, i found out about Fred and Son. I had 1 more job that needed to be done, the replacing of the faucet and disposal in my kitchen. I sent them a email. Fred called me back 30 minutes later (a world record for plumbers), He told me he could get to me that day. I was suprised, but i told him i was at work until the afternoon. Sure enough 30 minutes before i got home his son, Joey called me and said he would be there to do it. He came by, very nice young guy. He knew his stuff. He even showed me where the main cut off for the water to my condo was. He was quick, informative and very courtious. And best of all, their price was the lowest of the 2 Rip-off main companies. After recently moving to Rockville, we had a clog in our kitchen sink resulting in standing water. I found Fred and Son on Yelp and put a call in to them and another plumbing service that received five-star Yelp reviews. Fred and Son called back within minutes and someone explained that Fred himself was out on a job, but would be available between 9 and 10 the next morning to come to our home. I never heard back from the other service I called, but Fred showed up right on time the next day. He covered his shoes to keep my home neat, then came in and listened to my explanation. He did a walk through of the home to see where all the plumbing was and explained to me what he thought the problem was (a clog deep in the line) and how much it would cost to fix. He quickly and cheerfully did the repair, pleasantly explaining to me what he was doing and why. He also gave me information about the plumbing in our neighborhood, where he works frequently. When the repair was finished (48+ feet of plumber's snake down our very clogged line!) Fred showed me a part that was cracked under our sink and gave me a price to replace it with something that would work better. He did that quickly, and then the final bill was less than originally quoted as Fred gave a first-time customer discount. Just over a week later, we noticed a leak in another part of the house. I contacted Fred and again he got back to me within minutes and came over the same day to diagnose the problem (a pinhole leak which would require a large section of aging pipe to be replaced) and give us an estimate. The following day was a Saturday, but when we called on Saturday morning and said we'd like to go ahead with the repair, Fred shocked us by telling us he was on a job but would be over as soon as he finished. He showed up with his helper Oscar at around 3pm and finished the job around 6 at the price quoted. He was polite, professional, and left our home neat and clean. The repair looks good, and while we are annoyed to have so many plumbing issues in our "new" (1950s-era) home, we're at least glad we have a reliable plumber! read more

I had a blockage in my home sewage system. I called in Fred. He came on the same day and exact time we set. He put on plastic covers over his shoes before entering the house, covered the hardwood floor to the bathroom in the first floor and he also covered the walls and floor of the bathroom to protect them. He identified the site of the blockage, solved the problem very efficiently and quickly. Fred is a very nice gentleman and an efficient professional. Excellent. Fred came for clogged drain, and then patiently explained why the current plumbing configuration under our kitchen sink was poorly done, and would lead to problems with the drainage as well as the functioning of the garbage disposal. He snaked all relevant pipes, reconfigured the pipes under the kitchen sink, installed a new and smaller and much needed disposal, and everything runs better than ever. After being told by a franchise plumbing company that they would need to call me back to see if they had the parts needed to fix my toilet before telling me whether or not they could do the work today (we are talking about a flapper valve, handle, lever and new bolts to connect the tank to the toilet), I checked on Yelp and saw that Fred & Son Plumbing had a 5 star rating. And so, I hired Fred and am glad I did. When I called, he answered the phone and I told him what I needed for my broken toilet. No hesitation, he said he could do it, and would call me when he was done with the job he was on at the time. Less than 2 hours later, Fred called and said he was on his way. He and a helper had to cut through rusty bolts to be able to replace them. They also provided all new parts, upgrading from the old ballcock and ball float to the fill value style. All work was completed in less than an hour and Fred was very professional and friendly. His prices were very reasonable too. I needed a plumber to replace my outside faucet, so I consulted Yelp. Fred & Son was so highly rated that I immediately called them. I'm glad I did. They got right back to me and set up an appointment for the following Saturday morning. Fred himself showed up right on time, diagnosed the situation, explained the options, and provided costs for each one. He patiently answered all my questions. He was very careful about not tracking dirt into the house. A very affable man, we discussed family, jobs, foreign politics, and other plumbing issues while he worked with precision and efficiency. You can tell he's a real pro who has seen it all. I'm convinced his price was more than fair, a lot lower than I'm sure one of the big plumbing companies would have charged. As first time homeowners, my wife and I were both a little nervous about our first repair (our dining room ceiling was leaking). After getting mentally prepared to spend anywhere from $700-1500 to crack open our ceiling and find where the leak is coming from, not to mention actually fixing the leak and closing up our ceiling, we found Fred & Son Plumbing. When Fred got there, he was friendly, explained everything that needed to be done, and estimated the cost...which was MUCH lower than we planned. He opened up our ceiling and immediately found the leak, said said he could replace the hole in the ceiling for only $290 for everything...INCLUDING repatching the hole. We actually left gave him an extra $35 because we thought it was such a fair price. Not only that, Fred was personable and was even friendly to our dog who kept humping his leg. When he was done with that, he asked if we had any other problems around the house and he fixed our leaky faucet in about 5 minutes, gave us tips on caulking and our water heater and made sure that we didn't have any other problems. He even wore shoe covers so our carpet didn't get dirty! I mean, who does that?! Anyway, Fred's a great plumber, personable guy, and his prices are much MUCH less than comparable companies!
