We have shopped for groceries and household supplies at the Ballard Fred Meyer for over 10 years. Several years ago Fred Meyer and QFC were purchased by Kroger, and since then they have been headed down the same road to bad service and limited selection as has happened in many industries with national consolidation. It is difficult to find help and many items have been replaced by only Kroger brands. Recently they reorganized the whole store and now it feels like a low-end warehouse. There are never enough registers open, so today we went early to avoid crowds, but there were still long lines at the few open registers, as well as the self-checkout line, so we just walked out without buying anything and went to Whole Foods where we will pay more for decent service and quality. read more

I'm updating to talk about their pharmacy, which I've switched to since my recent ordeal with Bartell Drugs in Wallingford. I LOVE the Fred Meyer pharmacy! No fuss, no hassle, call in your refill and then go pick it up and it is there when they say it will be, in the correct form/dosage with the correct price tag attached to it. Recently my insurance decided that I can't have 3 months of meds all in one go. The pharmacist was very apologetic and when I mentioned how annoying that is (of the insurance agency) she suggested using a mail-order service instead, if it would be easier for me. She suggested that I take my business elsewhere!! If this isn't pharmacy love, I don't know what is. read more

When I first moved here I shopped at Freddy's for everything. I love their low prices on home goods and the simple fact that it is a one-stop-shop really has an allure to it. Then there was the dreaded mold incident. A month or so ago I was shopping in the produce section for fresh raspberries. I was excited when I saw that they were on sale - and then mortified when I looked at the three packages remaining. Each of these packages contained very squishy looking raspberries with mild growing on them. I resolved that day to only buy pre-packaged goods at Fred Meyer in the future. I now frequent the store much less often. Really, I only go when I need household items like Kleenex or toiletries. Still, the store great for home goods! read more

My husband and I would like to let you know what a great employee you have in Brian Williams in the meat department. He went out of his way to help my husband when the lady in the fish department was unwilling to meet his needs. My husband wanted to order a ham to pick up on xmas eve and the lady in the fish department told him that the store did not provide that service. My husband told her that he had done that several times before but she told him no. My husband got in line to pay for his groceries when a gentleman by the name of Brian Williams found him to let him know that he would take care of his request to order the ham. He had overheard the conversation he had with the lady in the fish department and then proceeded to find him in the store. He also got the manager to come over to talk to my husband who was also very understanding about the situation. The next day we came in to go grocery shopping and Brian was there again to say hello to my husband and called him by his name. He told us that if we ever needed any fish before 9:00 am that he would be willing to assist us. In the past we have tried to get fish before 9:00am as we shop early and the same lady would always say that she is not open until 9:00am. She is not very friendly or customer service orientated. I'm a Fred Meyer shopper because of price and convenience. Their employees range from helpful & smart to dull or snippy, but I shop there often enough to know which workers to approach when I must. The Ballard store has some great ones, fortunately. This Fred Meyer seems big enough that it shouldn't be short on space, yet it has the highest number of blocked or almost impassable aisles of any Fred Meyer I've ever visited. The main exit and entrance path, between the bank & optician and store merchandise aisles, is usually filled with various displays, usually batteries, sometimes candles or cards. There's only room for one cart or wheelchair to travel in each direction, so there's often a line of shoppers trying to leave the store with their purchases. The nearest parallel aisle is packed with BBQ grills, blankets, or closeout candy, and that one is even MORE narrow. They also should widen the aisle between the organic dairy & freezer case, and the little half-aisle of bulk foods that sits opposite. 95% of the time, there's a large rectangular cart filled with dairy products and other perishables waiting to be stocked, but taking up over half the aisle. It's the fastest route from produce to meat and conventional dairy. Sometimes I can't even walk through with a hand basket, never mind stop for something from the bulk section without blocking somebody else. Today, the cart filled with boxes was blocking, as usual, but there were no employees nearby. Have the consideration to move the dang thing out of the way if you leave to do something else for any length of time! It was left unattended for at least 15 minutes, and maybe much longer. I just used an adjacent aisle instead, but noticed there were other customers and an employee who were forced to take the same re-route. Other Fred Meyer stores leave enough room for their customers to easily enter and exit their stores. For example, I don't remember getting blocked in (or having to weave around oddly-placed merchandise) at Monroe, Burien, either of the Lynnwood stores, or the Newport or Astoria stores in Oregon. It's rude, and is why I don't shop at this store as often as I used to. read more

I love this Fred Meyer, it's honestly my favorite even though I live in Renton and am only in the area for work. Nonetheless it's great. My only complaint is that I wish they had sushi ready before 10 am and carried more plaid shirts but that's a personal thing and hey I ain't gonna get mad at a big chain for not having every little thing I want. I really wanted to hate Fred Meyer. When they first opened (what's it been, about 6-7 years?) I was full of loathing for their huge, imperialistic brightness. And the traffic. And...just the whole package. Now I am completely absorbed into the Freddie's cult. I go there at least once a week; my bank is there, there's clothing, the employees are kind of quirky and relatively friendly. You can find ALMOST everything you need there. I do hate those damn car shopping carts though. Have you ever tried to actually navigate one of those things? You should have to get a license and lessons to use one. Otherwise you'll end up Austin Powers-ing back and forth trying to turn around in an aisle. Oh, I forgot...their clothing racks are too darn close together. Especially in the ladies' underwear area. You'll have to leave your cart out in the aisle...and people of weak moral character will shop out of it while you innocently look for offensive undies with Happy Bunny on them. It happened to me. I think what I find most annoying about this place is that it seems like it would have whatever simple day to day thing you might need especially if quality isn't a big concern but it practice that is often an illusion. I hate going there because I just plain don't enjoy the experience yet sometimes the need arises so I travel down for a bottle of gas for my little propane torch. I know it's something they carry yet wander the isles like a lost child. Finally I find someone to ask only to hear "we're out of stock". Huh? Too bad I couldn't have combined that trip with the one where I needed vacuum bags. They weren't only out of my kind the rack was about 80% empty. Alright, so it's just a couple bad experiences but I've also spent what seems like interminable amounts of time waiting and wondering - what is the matter with these food department aisles? I can't decide whether there is something wrong with the design or it's that aliens shop here and they're just different. Sometimes I buy some wine there buy never meat because the smell from the fish wafts over me and completely ruins my appetite. And then I go to buy my stuff and realize, yet again, that it's not the number of cash registers that counts it the number and quality of the cashiers. With each visit I have plenty of time to wonder whether in my old age I've lost the acuity to learn from previous mistakes because here I am again. To me this is a very poorly produced simulacrum of a store that would be useful if it actually existed. read more

Fred Meyer Jewelers - we've had great service in previous times we've shopped there, and can't complain about others in that department however, stay clear of Audrey. She has no customer service skills, will not acknowledge new customers walking in, and cares nothing about the business. I really hate this place. If I didn't live so close to it, I'd never go in. Here are my issues, in convenient list form: -The deli food is awful. I'm not a picky eater, but every time I go there I'm incredibly disappointed. Last time I just up and threw away most of my food. -The store is dirty. The main areas are fairly well kept, but the dressing rooms, bathrooms, and upstairs tables are just gross. -Their men's clothing selection is...unimpressive. There is literally not a size Small in the entire department. This isn't Yakima, guys, it's Ballard. There are people here who aren't obese. And the brands? Seriously, Tapout? Compared to Target, Fred Meyer's products have no sense of style or design to them, and come in colors that were trendy in the 80s. It's mostly crap my grandparents would buy. Basically it's an expensive Walmart. Ugh. read more

geesh. why's everyone rippin on freddy's? (side-note: i hate it when people refer to this store as "freddy's"). i kinda think you know what you're getting when you shop at fred meyer. yes, the produce and meat is gonna suck. but i have a little rule of thumb: if a store stocks floor mats for your car - don't buy meat there. simple as that. get it somewhere else. FM is good for the shxt you realize you need while in the midst of buying your basics. as in "oh shxt...i need a cutting board." or "oh that's right...my bathmat is disgusting. i could use a new one." and as an added bonus, this FM has birds. real live birds. for some reason they love hanging out in this joint. i was in the bread aisle one time and saw a little sparrow hopping on top of the bread bags. walked around the corner and almost ran into a huge pigeon just standing there. apparently waiting for some crumbs to come his way. a pigeon! it wasn't even on my list! but i bought it anyways. read more

For having the closest Movie Cube to Ballard. New releases for $1 per day . . . new movies every Tuesday . . . . Machine is located right b/w the claw-pick-up-the-stuffed-animal game and soda machine. A good alternative to Netflix, especially when I want to clear my queue of "guilty pleasures" like Alien vs. Predator, Step Up 2 The Streets, Hitman, all the Resident Evil series and Doom. And, uh, Fred Meyer some times has cheap cheese for like 50% off. read more

This rating is for the Fred Meyer headquarters, not local stores. I HAVE BEEN ON HOLD FOR OVER HALF AN HOUR! They use the same number for every type of inquiry and you will rot on hold. There is no way to get an operator. They need to hire more operators. But that won't happen because the only way to apply is online and that is screwed up too. I am calling about that! So far I have invested over 4 hours for nothing. Their system is stuck and they will not help you. If you can't get the help you need in the store, this is a factor. Businesses need to remember that every call is a customer ready to become a former customer. read more

Fred Meyer must have been an evil, evil genius. Why are there so many products in one place? To waste my time, that's why. I can't imagine how awful this place must be on a weekend- I've only been on weekday nights, so it's been pretty calm and barren. I was told they carry Mrs Meyers cleaning products, which is why I came here- we left with $75 worth of stuff- and then came back the next night and spent $115! They had a pretty decent selection of hardware supplies- we took a Black and Decker cordless power saw home for a fair price. They have lillet- both white and red- at a higher price than the state liquor stores mind you, but hell, you don't have to make another stop. The bulk natural food section rivals Ballard Market- very cool. We also found these paper, lidded organizing boxes that fit perfectly into our bookcase (which has been a tricky feat) at 50% off! SCORE! I'm not impressed with the grocery/produce section- I was lured into some seriously bogus nectarines there. But for the home stuff- organizing, hardware, etc... I'm pretty happy. My husband hasn't let me go over into the clothing section yet- I think he's afraid I'll spend all of our money! read more

Came here at 10pm to return a 4 gallon stainless steel pot since I actually needed a 5 gallon one for brewing some beer. Given the fact that it was late at night, there was no wait at the customer service area and I was able to return my item in less than 5 minutes. For the most part, this is like any other Fred Meyer store and they have more or less anything you can think of, ranging from gardening to kitchenware to food and much more. I like this location because it's pretty convenient for me and it's also open until 11pm. The staff was pretty helpful and the prices are actually pretty good for many items (comparable to Walmart, which has a much larger operation). I definitely won't mind coming here again to pick up food and supplies. read more

Great place to have a heart attack in. Chaotic with crowds of angry shoppers. The cashiers are in a zombie-like state, and the other employees wandering around aren't very helpful. The deli is a scary nightmare and the workers are slow... I mean slow... They do not carry women's or juniors' clothing sizes that are small enough for me. The canned cat food doesn't come in a larger, more economical size. A lady selling me cigs at the customer service counter once actually lectured me on how bad smoking was. Best prescription prices I've found so far. Very personable, helpful pharmacists. They're going to save me about $2000/year. QFC grocery store inside. (Points don't count w QFC, though) Starbucks on outside of building. I don't like Chase or any bank, so we won't go there. (Federal Savings and Loans are much better.) Very helpful household goods people. Good shoe prices, with wide shoes also. You need to search around a bit for what you want. Vista Optical inside. Note: if you buy furniture it's $80 delivery for each piece, unless you get the special where delivery's free (about 2x year). Gentle warning: you may go in here and never come out! read more

It's kind of unusual that you can buy a chicken pot pie from the same place you can buy a flat screen television. This store has pretty much anything you could need. Although, I probably would not buy a TV here. But all around, this store has an amazing selection of items under one roof. I come here mainly for groceries, but like the fact that I can pick up the occasional non grocery item without having to pay a huge markup like you would at a grocery. I come here often for their rotisserie chicken, and have found it to be the best of any grocery store. It is always around $5, so makes a good cheap dinner. Their produce is consistently good. They have the biggest selection of microbrew beers that I have seen at any grocery store. Of note, QFC (my favorite stand alone grocery chain)and Fred Meyer are affiliated with each other. I have only scratched the surface of this store, and I always find something new here. read more

I think this Fred Meyer has a lot to offer in terms of selection. I like to call it more of a local Super K or Super Target. My family and I mainly go there for household items and holiday items, and we never really peruse the food section. I appreciate that their wine selection is quite diverse and they often have discounts if you buy more than 6 bottles, which I do often. No judgement! read more

This is for the Pharmacy, NOT the store part: HORRIBLE PHARMACIST!! They were suppose to call and refill my Rx... When I went in to get it, they did not do it. To top the whole thing off, the old woman pharmacist with the Blonde hair... Her name starts with an M, told me it wasn't her problem!! WHAAAAT!? really?! are you kidding me?! NOT your problem, ummm, is that not your JOB!! to CARE about the people who rely on your expertise as a person in the medical field?! I WILL never go to this place again! If I was a college student my entire house might be from Freddies.. In fact I wonder why someone doesn't sneak in and live there. It is a huge store. Once we lost my grand-dad while picking up an RX for our Grandmom and found him napping on a couch in the furniture section nearby. Honestly I don't know how people who don't live near a Fred Meyer can survive without going to 3 stores.. The fruits and vegetable section is bigger than Whole Foods for far less, the healthy snacks are like a Trader Jones, there is fresh sushi, a HUGE Deli but watch out for the cheese guy (such a flirt), they will bake your a custom cake and you can get clothes, bikes (you might need to ride one to the other side of the store) , tents and car stuff, towels and even a hardware store in one stop. Plus their prices are back to being competitive again. We have a nice one over in Issaquah and both of them have the same high quality staff. My only complaint is that both put the bread in the same aisle as the candy (put it with the crackers) which makes it hard to shop with little kids. read more

The jewelry store is nice and very friendly I bought a relatively cheap ($120) birthstone ring for my daughter and they treated me like a big spender. Free giftwrapping, thorough advice on sizing and returns, and at the end of the transaction the salesperson shook my hand and thanked me by name as though I had spend $10,000! It's a nice store in general, although some items (nongrocery) are overpriced. Returns are easy. Pharmacy is efficient. Produce is good, with quite a bit of local stuff. Five stars plus for the jewelry store, four stars for the pharmacy (could be friendlier), five stars for the groceries (love the coupons and half price bins). My go-to store, better than Safeway (MUCH better) and less expensive than QFC although the same company (Kroger) owns them. Total score 4.5 stars. read more

Review for pharmacy only. The women that work at this pharmacy are all fantastic. I transferred my Rx's from the Walgreen's on 12th + Market because it was awful. Lam is the manager/pharmacist at Fred Meyer and she is down-to-earth, funny, and hardworking. She talks to me human-to-human about my medications. Every other person working there is just as smart and kind. They are willing to track down answers when insurance declines a medication or to decrease risk for my child's drug allergy. The only way they could improve this pharmacy is if there were a drive-thru. With covid spreading, I don't like having to go inside and through the store to get to the pharmacy, which is located far from the entrance. Everyone is wearing facemasks, but I still would prefer to decrease the likelihood of exposure. Other than that, it couldn't be better and I so appreciate these essential workers showing up every day. read more
