Went for a christmas lunch and sat on the patio. First one's to arrive. Ok atmosphere nothing really to write home about. Our coworker ordered the Diavolo pizza and it came out a pool of oil. The crust was so soggy he could not even cut the pizza to grab a slice. I had the club - nothing special about that at all. Like literally nothing. The bread was super hard and there was a hole head of lettuce on the sandwich and the meat and bacon was non existent. No flavor at all. Others waited as our meals came out first - all got cold while waiting for the pasta dishes which came out cold. Overall horrible food - cant understand how someone cant make a decent meal. Looking for a Happy Hour yesterday and glad we stumbled upon Freda's. The entire staff was friendly and welcoming to our 3 dogs and we got great corner table on the front porch with plenty of space for them to spread out. Danielle did a great job taking care of us despite having to maneuver around the dogs (who think everyone should stop to pet them :-) ). Cocktails were good and all the beer was local. We had a pizza with meatballs and garlic as well as the meatball sliders. both were excellent. Thrilled to see such a nice place open up in Moorpark, especially one that is dog friendly. We were there early for Happy Hour, but by the time we left the place was really filling up, which shows great promise. Hopefully the keep up the great work and friendly, welcoming staff. read more

Nothing makes me more irritated than restaurants not honoring reservation times. We had a reservation for 7pm on a Saturday night. Arrived at 7pm, told us it would be 10 minutes, so we got a drink in the bar. We were not seated until 8pm!!!! Either don't over commit tables or let people know when you seat them that the table has a reservation at X time. Not coming back to a restaurant that doesn't respect my time. read more

This was our first time visiting fredas and we really wanted to love it. We just went in for drinks and dessert. I had heard about the banana cream pie, but when we got it it came with so much whip cream and such a thick crust and barely any of the cream pie that you would want or expect from the dessert. I have been to Fredas twice so far. I am a salad eater mostly. I had the greek salad with chicken the first time. It was delicious and fresh. I also had some tiramisu which was the best I have ever tasted. They make it by scratch. The next time I went I had the Caesar salad with salmon. Oh WOW. I loved every bit of it. Fresh and tasty. The salmon was grilled. I want to try the zucchini spirals. They look delicious. The pizzas look good too. Can't wait to try them. I just wish they has a little more food choices as far as sandwiches and burgers. Maybe a turkey burger or traditional pizza?? Some flat breads as well. This place is very nice. Its small inside but there is an outdoor patio and porch. Its very beautiful. I will definitely be back. read more

My friends and I went to Freda's this weekend and decided to give their brunch a shot--it was incredible! We got a Dutch baby, which they said is like a German pancake, sort of a mix between a pancake and a soufflé. We shared one for the table, and it was seriously tasty--crisp yet fluffy, topped with this fantastic berry compote. I went for a French omelette, and it was delicious. One friend ordered the grits and grillades, which was awesome--cheesy grits paired with tender braised short ribs and a bit of spice. We have been here a few times and it is good, but the front desk hostess is completely incompetent and rude. Went the other night at 6:30 and was told sorry were completely booked up for the night! There were at least 5-6 open tables between inside and outside. Never expressed to us a wait time or offered or suggested the bar which had two seats open. There was no line or anyone waiting and there were lots of tables that looked like they were ready to leave. This is the second time this has happened to us going there. The first time I pointed out the open tables everywhere and was seated, this time I just left and spent my $150 somewhere else! read more

Friends called us and said there was a new restaurant in Moorpark and we have to go. Reservations at 6:00. So we went. I trust these friends as they travel a lot and dine all over the world. They have yet to steer us wrong. This is one of the best I've been to in ages. My friend said pizza as good as in NYC where he grew up. And he was right. It was absolutely delicious. We had the special which was arugula with prosciutto oh my gosh. The crust. You won't waste a single piece. We had the braised Caesar salad fabulous - also a special - and we ordered the zucchini ribbons. I could bury myself in those ribbons. You have to order them. I didn't order a cocktail but those that did said they were great and I did notice they were served in beautiful glassware. I just had water and they served me a little bowl of lemons and limes to make my water more interesting. I didn't even ask for it. How thoughtful. I began, as I sometimes do, to notice what other tables were ordering and it all looked good. Service was excellent. Ambiance was friendly and warm. Seating inside and out in a Victorian building. Btw, Moorpark is changing. Especially High Street. Come and enjoy. I'm telling you that you will be glad you did. This restaurant is fabulous. And not hideously expensive. I would like to rate the food but I can't because we were never served. Three of us went mid-day on a Saturday. We were seated by the hostess on the patio by ourselves. At first we thought maybe they forgot we were out there. Then the hostess seated 2 other parties at the tables next to us. The servers came out and addressed those tables but continued to ignore our table. After waiting 15 to 20 minutes for someone to come take our order, we left. I did walk through the main dining area with the intention of saying something but all the workers had their backs to me and stayed that way. I gave up and left. My daughter and I enjoyed a lovely late lunch at Freda's today. This was our first time here but won't be our last. We had the zucchini appetizer and burrata to start, both were amazing. We shared a pizza which was large enough for at least 3 people. Loved the crust which was soft but with a slight crisp. Just perfect. Then we shared the crime brûlée for desert. Loved every bite! Ate next door about a month ago & saw Frieda's so it was a must try, I got the $60 Filet, not worth $60, was good but not yummy, it came with a loaded bake potato, which was on the lukewarm side with cold spots. MY husband got the special- which was Pizza with a creamy garlic sauce, arugula, oregeno & Parmesan mixture. It would have been amazing if they had not covered the pizza with so much of the arugula mixture, it was way over baring. Dinner date with a few friends! We arrived at 6 pm for dinner. What a fun spot. We sat on the patio. Loved the pergala covered patio. We had a beautiful breeze. The lighting is perfect. Parking on High Street sucks! We ordered to start zucchini ribbons with marinara. They were super thinly sliced delicious, crispy, and fresh. We also got meatballs. The hint of mint brought back a dozen wonderful memories of Grandmas recipe from childhood. Absolutely delicious mix of meats and herbs. Those are a must order when I go again. For entrées we ordered steak frites covered in a chimichurri on a bed of corn succotash with fries. The steak was cooked absolutely perfectly it was tender, and the chimichurri was so good and fresh. Loved the mixture of herbs. The corn succotash had wonder grilled flavor. The fries were crispy and seasoned well. We also ordered the warm lobster roll. That was highly recommended by a few patrons around us. They raved so we tried. They were correct this was the best lobster roll I've ever tried. The lobster was fresh, sweet, and cooked perfectly! The garlic cream sauce was to die for. We dipped our fries and bread into it! So good! And the roll was so good. I could literally eat that with anything! Then was the diavola pizza. Perfectly cooked. The cheese was absolutely delicious with a great pull. It was creamy. A hint of spice with the chilis made it all balance. Of all three of us ladies that went, we would all give it at least an 8 out of 10. We will all be back! The owner, Phil. When we first saw him, he was bringing in equipment to the restaurant. Then he was clearing tables, bussing tables, delivering food. He was also talking to and checking in on patrons! What a wonderful example for his staff and for the guests to see. Excellent food with friendly service in nice decor restaurants. Went to the WLV restaurant & had a great pizza, so we decided to go to their restaurant in Moorpark. On 2 occasions the cheeseburgers were delicious. Salmon was ordered al-dente & was cooked to perfection (probably the best piece of salmon ever eaten). All the front-of-the-house staff have been very friendly & accommodating. Both restaurants are nice looking & clean, with the Moorpark location in a restored old Victorian house having quaint sounds of locomotives as it is across the street from a train station. Revisited for Saturday brunch after hearing good things since my previous visit during the soft opening and was impressed. I had the crabcake eggs benedict, which was delicious, and tried some of their biscuits and gravy which was also very nicely done. The standout to me was the house's version of an Aperol spritz which had a great balance that not every bar can achieve. Sat out on the side patio to enjoy the weather, the cozy yet casual ambiance remains a big plus. Our server was great, and went the extra mile to accommodate some substitutions for a member of our party. I will definitely be returning to see what their dinner service is like. read more

Lunch date with my friend and we decided to go out on a limb and try something different. She lives in Simi and I live in Thousand Oaks so we thought somewhere in Moorpark would work for us to meet. I searched restaurants in Moorpark and this one came up. The outside looked darling and the reviews were ok. I thought...."why not?!" We met on a Friday at 12:30 for lunch. It was easy to find and the building it is in is absolutely beautiful on the outside and has so much character. They even have a cute outdoor eating patio and plenty of parking in back. We decided to get a table inside because it was a bit too cold for us to eat outside. The inside was cute but definitely didn't have as much character as the outside. We were sat almost immediately. It wasn't crowded at all so we felt like we chose a great time to go. We were given the menus and were asked if we wanted a drink. My friend was thinking of getting a glass of wine but when she asked the waitress she said that they didn't have a liquor license. We both decided on water. The menu consisted of sandwiches, salads, pizza, a few appetizers and 5 entree choices (salmon, chicken, ribeye, short ribs and steak frites). Since it was cold we both declined on ordering our usual salad order and opted for a sandwich thinking that it's hard to make a bad sandwich. We were disappointed when we discovered it was easy for them to make a sub par sandwich. My friend ordered the $18 meatball sandwich with came with fries. The bread was large, soft and tasted fresh. The meatballs were scarce (she said they needed more to fill the roll and that it was mostly bread) and the taste was "just ok". I ordered the $17 steak and cheese sandwich. I specifically asked the waitress if the meat was lean and if it was sliced thinly. She said yes that it was. I decided to proceed with that order that also included fries. The bread/roll was good but the meat not so much. It was very fatty and not very tender. It also had grilled onions and Irish cheddar cheese which was good. The fillings on mine did seem to fill the roll with the majority of it being meat which would have been perfect if the meat was good. It was served with au jus which was tasty and was supposed to have been served with creamy horseradish which it was not. I forgot about the horseradish after we had left. The fries were crispy, hot and tasty and there were plenty. Perhaps we ordered the wrong dishes and should have tried something else? However, with the prices the way they are, no liquor license, not much ambience inside and the quality and taste of the food I most likely will not be back, unfortunately. I wanted so much to say I found a new, favorite lunch spot that wasn't a chain...I really did....and I'm disappointed to say I haven't. I'll continue my search... read more
