Possibly the best pizza I've had in a while. Freda's artisanal wood-fired NY pizza is exactly what I love -- thin, crisp, and the perfect slice to fold East Coast style. I had the mushroom and truffle oil slice, made with organic mushrooms, mozzarella, fontina, provolone, parmesan, and white truffle oil. Yay for organic! The cherry soda was also sooo good. I love that it's made with cane sugar. I can't wait to come back and try the whole menu! The staff is fantastic, especially Bree -- her recommendations were spot on. I was waiting for the 3rd time I order before I review. There have been issues with 2 out of 3 orders. First one had an issue with delivery. Waited so long that I ended up driving over myself to pick it up just to find out that the order was picked up for delivery 2 minutes prior to me walking in. Second time ordering was good. I ordered while driving over there. Had to wait a few minutes. Got it home, and, it was good. Third time ordering today for delivery again. Both pizzas tasted like it was stale and sitting out. In addition, I ordered 14 wings for my kids with BBQ sauce along with Ranch and Gorgonzola on the side. The wings came spicy and no side sauces. My daughter got into the wings before us tasting it first and immediately complained how spicy it was and it burned her mouth and lips. So I had to cook something else for my kids. Likely won't be back. Maybe I'll just order and pick it up myself so I can confirm freshness and that everything was made correctly. read more

I ordered pickup today for the first time. Based on my first experience, I do not plan on coming back... FIRST THOUGHTS: As I walked in the young, blonde teen girl wearing braids said hi, very quietly and with no happiness. It made me feel like a was interrupting her box folding. The restaurant was empty. It was about 5:00. I don't think they saw my DoorDash pickup order, because when I said I had a pickup order, the guy began making my food. It's nice inside, but when the customer service is bland, it makes you second guess a return visit. I ordered a CUBANO. Yelp reviewers said they were good. When my food was ready, they just gave me the sandwich. It didn't have a side it was supposed to come with. They made me fries, which I appreciated. FOOD: When I got home, I opened the sandwich and they forgot to put cheese on it, and it was not even pressed! It didn't even look like a Cubano. There was also only a little piece of pork on one side only. I could not see past all of these mess ups for one small sandwich order. I called to tell them and said I'll bring the sandwich back for a correctly made one. So I drove back, which I was NOT HAPPY about! As I walked in, the same girl just hands me a scorching hot container with the sandwich and fries, with no bag! She did not even say a word. I said "thank you." She did not even say "we are sorry about that." Good customer service would have apologized, maybe thrown in a side salad or a drink for the troubles. NOTHING. I was kind about everything. When I returned home again, the sandwich actually looked like a Cubano. Unfortunately, they forgot mayo on it. There was not a drop. Just mustard. The bread was meh, and it was skimpy on the meat, especially compared to the DINE IN pictures on Yelp. The meat was a bit dry. It still tasted pretty good, but not fantastic. The fries were double battered, and over seasoned. Not my thing. The ranch dressing was delicious though! OVERALL EXPERIENCE: After messing up my order, no apology given when I drove back to pick up the correct order, another forgotten item on the "second sandwich", no warm welcome, and a mediocre tasting Cubano, I have no desire to return and try any of their other food. Stopped in for a slice after shopping at Trader Joe's and was pleasantly surprised. The dining room has plenty of tables, a couple tvs to watch the game and many plants which adds to the chill vibe. Was in a pizza carb kick this week and needed to try another local place. They have a great variety of pizzas and a few slices of the day prepared. Was super hungry and all looked good. Ordered the spinach pizza, beef melt sandwich with fries, and roasted beet salad. Can see the cooks toss the dough, which was a nice exposure to see that. The pizza was a great choice and especially those garlic chunks, would so order it with extra garlic, next time. The pizza survives the fridge and tastes great cold the next day. The beef melt was really good, compared to some deli that have it on their menu and it was kinda dinky, this was great! The horseradish sauce, onions and cheese melts like a melter, especially the crusty cheese at the edges!!! so super yummkins sandwich. It will be a repeat order next time. I'm somewhat a regular here now as I work just across the highway. I love their sliced pizza options and always go with their potato-bacon slices. They are very filling, normally 2 slices will do the job. The pizza is very savory!! They have some creamy chipotle sauce drizzled on top, and great cheesy bites. I think some sauce would be nice but overall a great pizza joint. They offer salads, wings, and good brew as well. I've only ever had their pizza and the beer. I'm excited to try their other food options. There is normally enough tables open when i come around lunch and dinner. There is both outdoor and indoor seating. I think the service is always fast and friendly. I've told lots of people in the office at work that this place is an excellent pizza fix near work. read more

The food here is good, albeit the pizza is pre-made slice format, that they warm up for your order. I think they offer freshly made whole pizzas too. The salads are freshly made and big. I ordered an antipasto style salad and I'd give it a 7 out of 10 for flavor. It was a bit acidic; the dressing needs better balance. By far, we enjoyed the mushroom truffle pizza the most. We went there when it as pouring rain. A couple came in with 4 unruly tween girls. Apparently one was having a birthday. They were so chaotic our service was diminished with the employees trying to accommodate their randomness. We ordered a bottle of wine. It became apparent they weren't going to bring it, when our food arrived without it. We waited several minutes for it to show up, then my H went up to the counter with his receipt to collect it. The younger employees decided to have a couple loud conversations from behind the open food prep counter. So we can't blame the silly girls entirely for the distracted service. The price for the pizza was ok, but if I'm going to leave the house for pizza, I might as well go to a grocery store and use my own oven. It is a definite disadvantage for a pizza lover like me to have to stay away from cow's milk cheese. Freda's does carry vegan cheese for those that need to avoid dairy foods. Unfortunately, it can be difficult to find said vegan cheese that can stand up to the rigors of pizza baking. Dear Hubby and I stopped by Freda's for the first time recently. The staff was great. The restaurant was very clean, and has killer lighting - bold and dramatic. We were able to watch part of a Laker's playoff game, which was an added bonus while we waited for the pizza to be freshly baked. When the 'za came out, it wasn't the prettiest pie I'd ever seen. The crust looked good, and tasted fantastic. The Italian fennel sausage, mushrooms, and grilled peppers all represented. The "cheese" was too liquid; it didn't brown at all. Sadly, it brought down what would otherwise have been a lovely pizza. That's not on Freda's; it's the nature of the imperfect science of replicating cow's milk cheese. I suspect they've tried some of the various options in the vegan cheese space. I believe they're using Follow Your Heart, which is a brand I've tried in other applications. It doesn't do as well when baked. Oh how I wish I could go back to the days when mozzarella, fontina, parmesan, jack, and the rest were my foodie friends! I would definitely enjoy Freda's even more. It didn't take me long to come back and try the small mushroom & truffle oil pizza. It tasted okay and mid bite, I realized that they forgot the truffle oil. Once I got that added on it tasted delicious. The fresh and hardy mushrooms with the oil hit the spot. Be sure to check your pizza so you get the full flavor. I called to place an order over the phone and no one picked up. It was during the lunch hour rush on Friday so it makes sense why there was an oversight. I called back 20 minutes later and was able to place my order. Overall, they made it right with no issue on the oil. I'll be back. Phil and Peter the co-owners, serve the most delicious pizza. Just the perfect amount of cheese, sauce and crust. They also offer appies: wings, house chips with cheese dip, truffle fries, loaded fries and Deli nachos. They also have yummy salads, and sandwiches...All delicious!!!! October 2024 Very casual place. Reminds me of Perry's in the Sherman Oaks Galleria 1980s... but more "modernized" for the 2024 Westlake Crowd. $6 per slice, thin crust, from a 18" pizza. So the slices are big and wide. Today I tried: 1 Americano (pepperoni, bacon, cheese) 1 of the 4 cheese w mushrooms (fontina, provolone, mozzarella fiora di latte), and 1 plain cheese. Pizza is a thin crust, credit card thin. It's oven baked. You can ask for wood fired for catering & private parties. Not salty at all. The Dough is the real star of the experience. It's real, real flour, real water, real natural yeast. It's freah made, and has a nice pull/tug/chew to it. The taste is great too. The open flame oven adds the crunch, and those dark spots on the bottom and outter edge. I'll be back. This spot is a winner read more

Freda's had been yet another restaurant on my wife and I's list of "places to try," but we finally stopped in for lunch when doing some business at Trek next door. Now, we've been back several times; and it's top of mind when we are feeling a pizza date. I wouldn't have suspected liking it as much as I do. We've only tried the pies that they sell by the slice, so I can't speak for their sandwiches or thicker pizzas, but the NY slices reheated in their brick oven are a 10/10. We've now tried them all, and the mushroom pie is my favorite, while my wife prefers the potato&bacon. The dough is great: thin but structured, and cooked well; and the cheese is quality. Inside, the restaurant is *spacious,* with table/booth and hightop seating for whatever your preferences are. The restaurant is clean and has TVs if watching while you eat is your thing. I can't say much for their service, as you order from the counter, and they bring you your food when it's ready. Cheeses and peppers, drinks, etc., you grab yourself from the self-serve station; but no complaints. The employees have always been nice and willing to explain their menu and offer recommendations. I know Slice House is nearby and trendy, but don't sleep on Freda's. It absolutely deserves a spot in everyone's pizza rotation. read more

I arrived to the Yelp Elite event around 5:45 PM because I was drive from the opposite end of the county, but thankfully traffic did not accompany us. The restaurant is located right off of Westlake & Thousand Oaks Blvd in the same plaza as Trader Joe's & Pets Mart. There were 2 other food business in the location previous to Freda's. I like how they made great use of the space by having booth seating along the wall & on the other side of tables, chairs that can be pulled out. And along the middle of the space was a long, tall, rectangular table with chairs on either side. They were still open for business while the Yelp Elite Experience was happening. The service was TOP NOTCH! The wait staff was amazing! They were all warm, friendly, & ready to anticipate your every need. We had assigned seating, but if we wanted to sit with friends or our plus 1, we could sit at the tables along the walls, which me & my hubby did. As I got my food from the buffet they created for us, he went to the front to order. He got a slice of pizza as an appetizer, a drink, a Philly Sub & a "side" salad. When the side salad was delivered, it was a BEAUTIFUL & honestly humongous salad bowl that can easily be shared by 2 people! Now that's my kind of salad! I got some fries, salad and a mushroom pizza. It was obvious that the pizza sat for a while. More than likely, what happened was the pizza & the rest of the food was placed & arranged before guests arrived, which I think was a mistake. The flavors of a pizza are much different when pizza is hot vs. when it's cooled or completely cold. As you can see the cheese has congealed, which couldn't happen in 10-20 mins. But regardless of that, the pizza was still delicious. Fries were ok. You can tell they must have been delicious when they were fresh because they looked like good quality fries. The salad was very good & very filling. I honestly could not eat much because I had so much salad. I love how the plates, goodie bag & presentation were pizza themed! It was very fun & reminded me of being a kid at a pizza party. The goodie bag contained a really cool pizza cutter that I will more than likely use to cut bread, brownies & other pastries. I appreciate how well thought out everything was & how welcoming the staff was. My only wish was that all the food was fresher (hot pizza). If they had a Freda's near me, I'd definitely return, but as far as I saw, they don't & I don't think they have any vegan options other than salad & regular fries. Having more vegan options are so VITAL for businesses these days if they want to survive longer than a couple years. Something as simple as vegan cheese can come a long way for a pizza joint, even if they didn't offer plant-based meats. I believe there are two locations.
