Jim, the owner, said he could accommodate either date for $56 per hour if I rented a U-Haul truck. Since this was the least expensive option, I hired their services. Jim's son - Thomas - and grandson - Rick - met us at the U-Haul. They were very accommodating and even drove the truck for us. During the move, Rick said, "I notice you have an iPhone 4" and asked my daughter and me whether the iPhone 4 was better than the iPhone 5. I thought nothing unusual about this at the time. They loaded everything we needed to move out of the home and unloaded at our storage location. When my 7 year old granddaughter came home, she wanted to play a game on her iPhone 4, which her mother gave to her after updating to a newer version. The phone was kept in one place - on the vanity table in the bedroom where Rick first asked me about the different versions. It was not there. I thought perhaps the phone was picked up in error while they were dismantling a bed in the room & called Jim to inquire. He asked his son & grandson - Thomas said he remembered seeing the iPhone, and both men said they did not take it. Well we have since completed our move, and to give them the benefit of the doubt, I thought maybe we would find it misplaced somewhere. We still have not found the iPhone, which was locked & not activated for anything other than games for a 7 year old. No cameras were in the room, but no one else entered our home from the time my granddaughter played with her phone on 10/27 & when she wanted to play with it on 10/28. Prior to this realization, I was prepared to give JG & Sons an excellent rating. Unfortunately, this incident soured the entire experience. If people trust you to enter their home & move their belongings, they should be able to trust that nothing in their home will go missing. UPDATE 11/4/14: Minutes after my review posted last week, Mr. Dickerson called me - not to acknowledge the theft, but to inform me that "if you had waited 2-3 weeks before posting the review, we could have filed a claim. It is our word against yours. We are licensed and insured." This, despite the fact that claims should be filed within days, not weeks. I told Mr. Dickerson that I had no reason to lie about an iPhone; that I had more things of greater value if my intentions were nefarious. Of course, every expensive item was not visible to the movers. Further, he did not give me the option to file a claim before I posted this review, although I gave his workers/family members the benefit of a doubt and waited until we completed our move to find the iPhone 4. Mr. Dickerson's response and subsequent comment to my review reinforces our negative experience with this company. If you hire their services, hide ANYTHING of value.

He offered me the best rate I could find ($66 for two guys per hour, two hour minimum so $132 total). I checked with Jim the day before to make sure everything was still good to go, and he said he had me down and there wouldn't be any problem. The next day, his son called me at 1:30pm and said that he would be there at 2:00 (which was on schedule). At 10 minutes after 2, they weren't there, and by 2:20, I tried calling him a couple times and my calls were silenced and ignored. One of my calls was eventually answered, and said he was right around the corner, but it still took him a while longer to get there. I called Jim who was very apologetic and promised a discounted rate, and they finally pulled in at 2:35. Jim said up front he would discount me for the half hour that they were late, so he was very accommodating. However, I wish I could say the same for the actual movers. Not only did they show up over half an hour late, they were smoking and actually tried to enter my moving truck with lit cigarettes (and no apology about being late). We specified that we didn't mind them smoking on the property afterward, but doing it around my stuff IN THE TRUCK was unacceptable and asked them to put it out, which was not met with a polite or understanding response from one of them. Also, because we weren't sure when they would actually be getting there and since we had to return the moving truck that evening, we had to start unloading ourselves before they got there. Because the truck was partially empty, this was met with "Well there's not hardly anything here, I don't know why y'all were worried about time, this won't take any time at all".... and we told them that's because we had to start moving it ourselves without them, the truck actually had arrived full. We weren't happy, but we were by no means uncivil towards them, because I'm not about to be rude to someone who is going to be handling my stuff for the next 30 minutes. However, despite this, I overheard numerous unkind comments directed at me and my boyfriend when we were thought to be out of earshot (though these did NOT come from Jim's son, I want to make that clear; Thomas was respectful and friendly aside from the cigarette). Even IF they were not directed at us (which is unlikely, based on their context of "If they weren't paying me, somebody would be getting an *** whoopin', nobody talks to me like that and gets away with it, etc.), they were still profane and inappropriate and made us incredibly uncomfortable. Finally, they ended up dropping an antique desk that I specifically directed them to be careful with, and taking a LARGE chunk out of my wall out with my washing machine. I could not find damage on the desk, but when I asked about the wall, I was told that I was responsible for protecting my own walls and that was described in the terms and conditions that were sent to me. I know this is the case for some moving companies, but when reviewing the contract that was texted to me, there is actually nothing that details that in the copy I was sent, but my apartment complex fixed the damage free of charge so I did not follow up on it. In the end, I only ended up paying $100 out of the original $132 I was quoted. Jim made himself available the entire time and was very prompt at responding to my questions. I am pleased that he made right on his movers being late by offering me the discount. He was courteous and apologetic throughout the whole ordeal, even when explaining about the wall; I think the policy on that may have just been a miscommunication of some sort but that all worked out in the end. If I could be guaranteed to work exclusively with Jim and completely different movers, I would happily use this company again. However, even with the discount, based on my experience with the movers themselves (ESPECIALLY the rude one, whose name I don't even know because he didn't introduce himself), I cannot recommend using J G and Sons: I would have rather paid more to be with another company who would guarantee a smooth move than have to pay even a discounted price for careless moving that I could have done myself for free. Belongings were delivered 10 days late, took 3 days of PTO and flew to ATL 3 separate times for them to no show twice. It took them over a month to move a 1 bedroom apt. Each time, we were notified with less than 24 hours before that they were no longer able to move our belongings in on the agreed upon date resulting in expensive last min hotels. We were compensated $125/day late (not including the original or new delivery date) which was better than nothing, but given the cost of last min hotels, our PTO time, and paying for an empty apt for 10 days, we wasted about $3,000+. I understand things don't always go according to plan, but what separates excellent from poor customer service is clear and timely communication and providing a reasonable alternative, neither of which happened. The actual moving staff are overall very pleasant though, and we always ensure we tip well for their services. Beyond that, I suggest moving yourself.

I had to run out to U-haul and get more wrap then then they placed my mattresses on the dirty truck with nothing to protect them from the dirty u-haul truck that was rented. Once I went to see the finsh product of my storage I was in awe, not to mention I gave the three men that came all the freshly bought food out my freezer and pantry. He replied " well I guess we all just have to do nothing"...with an attitude. I wish I had cancelled the move then. I had just bought this set from an on-line yard sale; all excellent condition, not one thing wrong with it. Haven't ever used it. When they brought the truck up my little incline driveway, we heard a very loud crash. It was the top of the china cabinet crashing to the back of the truck into the chairs. The helper said "The strap broke". OMG!I I will make this short: the top section was destroyed! A furniture repair shop looked at it and said it couldn't be fixed. This is after Strong Arms took it back with them promising me they would fix it. Also, chairs were scratched and dented, and the bottom of the china cabinet had damage. I was never able to speak to the owner of Strong Arms about this. When I asked to speak to the owner, I was told I couldn't and then was hung up on. I did receive a small compensation for it (300.00), but I paid more than double that, and I was never able to use it. And they insisted I pay for the move!!! Or they were going to "take it back". I called TruckFrat and they were kind enough to fit me in at the last minute. Two guys came to help me with an in-house move. They were professional and patient and took very good care to make sure nothing was damaged. What had become a long, drama filled day was over in a manner of an hour when they arrived. The only thing is that TruckFrat is only insured when your items are on their truck. So that means if something happens in your home- YOU are liable for it. They charged me $100 to move my furniture. Their low prices are Bc of the insurance issue. Not sure if they are bonded but the two guys who moved me were gentlemen and I had no problems there.

After the quote we actually got rid of some large items like dressers, a full sized bunk bed, etc making it less to move. The next day same thing, we ended up buying them lunch AND dinner ($250+) and had a big cooler of drinks bc it was June. They said that the job was more than intended (even thought the OWNER quoted us and there were fewer items to move). So we ended up being stuck paying that. Found out antique furniture had been wrapped in WET moving blanjets, ruining the finishes, hardware for beds was just gone, two pieces from our soda sign collection mysteriously vanished (about $1500 value) and a large stained glass piece was broken in several places. This guy is a crook, his people are thieves, and absolutely unappreciative of any kindnesses and take advantage of whatever possible. Do not use them without a firm estimate in a contract that they cannot change, and anything you don't want stolen, broken or damaged move yourself..
