Bottom Line: Stay far away from this company due to poor communication and operations. However, if you want to mess up your personal/work life for an unknown time, then this is the company for you! Belongings were delivered 10 days late, took 3 days of PTO and flew to ATL 3 separate times for them to no show twice. It took them over a month to move a 1 bedroom apt. Each time, we were notified with less than 24 hours before that they were no longer able to move our belongings in on the agreed upon date resulting in expensive last min hotels. We were compensated $125/day late (not including the original or new delivery date) which was better than nothing, but given the cost of last min hotels, our PTO time, and paying for an empty apt for 10 days, we wasted about $3,000+. I understand things don't always go according to plan, but what separates excellent from poor customer service is clear and timely communication and providing a reasonable alternative, neither of which happened. The actual moving staff are overall very pleasant though, and we always ensure we tip well for their services. Beyond that, I suggest moving yourself. read more

They did not complete my move within the contracted window. My things were split up in a warehouse brought in multiple deliveries which had never been discussed as a possibility. They tried to charge me an addition of almost 15% beyond my guaranteed quote. All was explained to me as the result of a failure by the assessor Ken Wilson who they sent to my home to assess the move so that there wouldn't be any surprises. Our dispatcher Theresa Brown apologized a lot but no accommodations were made and we were highly inconvenienced. The teams that did the actual pick up and delivery were very nice and professional but they were the only ones. The logistics were a nightmare. There is plenty of competition. If I could give negative stars I would! This has by far been the WORST moving experience I have ever had, and I've moved a lot. I've lived in 11 states in the past 11 years and have never had a move so delayed and damaged. They picked up our items June 27 and guaranteed their delivery window between July 5-10th. I called on the July 5th because I hadn't heard of an update of when our items would arrive. Kristen told us our stuff would be loaded on the 6th and they would call us when it was on it's way. On the 6th she called and said the driver cancelled and that it wouldn't be loaded onto a truck until the 10th, which is the last day of our guarantee window. Further she said it was going to go further in to North GA, away from our TX destination and they to Forth Worth/Dallas to drop off that other load first -- driving right past Austin. THEN, when it's on that truck they call to tell us it's now in South Carolina and it has to go to North Carolina. With no delivery estimate. So, not only is our stuff not coming to us, it's going further away. Then they tell us it's off that truck and they are searching for another driver. They tell us our stuff will now be loaded on Saturday July 14 and we can expect it Wednesday July 18th. The the driver calls Sunday and says they are coming Monday July 16th. Then he gets here on Monday morning and first thing out of his mouth is "I don't have all of your stuff. I told them it wouldn't fit because I had another big job". So 9 of our large boxes were knowingly left behind and no one bothered to tell us until our partial shipment arrived. THEN, they refuse to accept accountability for it only being a partial shipment. Even though all 9 of those boxes are on the ORIGINAL manifest and all should be arriving together. We have no estimated date for the rest of our items and we've spoken with 4 different people and nothing is remedied. On top of this, multiple boxes were smashes, broken furniture, gouges out of the dresser, handle broke off, drawer shattered, brand new mattress stained down the whole side with something brown. Never trust your items with these people or United Van Lines (these are the people who Suddath were coordinated our move through). You may never get your stuff and when you do it will be beat up and in awful condition. Terrible. read more

Despite issues prior to the actual move with some of the admin items (scheduling/communication), I was very satisfied with the actual moving crew themselves. We had issues with not getting a response from the moving coordinator, causing a delay in our planned moving date. Once we actual got the move scheduled, Ronnie and his crew (Rueben, Robert and Stephen) were great. Things went extremely fast, and they communicated well throughout the process to keep me informed. We had an excellent moving experience with Suddath. My husband's company paid for our relo but we had to do all the arrangements ourselves. Suddath not only gave us the best price, they gave us free moving boxes and supplies. They arrived on time, were very careful, very nice and courteous, and did a terrific job. They arrived on time to unload and were finished in no time! Nothing was damaged, they covered our floors and didn't dent any walls. Our moving coordinator insisted on giving us her cell number since the movers were unloading on a Saturday and her office wouldn't be open. I want to spare you all the pain I have endured (and continue to endure) with this horrible, dishonest business. Please save yourself the time, money and aggravation right now and look for another moving company. I paid $5100 for a SAM move with delivery from Atlanta to NYC. My belongings left my house in a SAM unit with the lock I had provided. On delivery day, my belongings showed up in a large, unsecured moving truck - not my SAM unit. I asked the movers what happened to my locked SAM container. They said they didn't have the right tow truck available that day to deliver the container, so they had to cut the lock and repack my belongings into a large moving van. Several items of furniture were destroyed, damaged or scratched. The legs on my coffee table and end table were completely ripped apart. Boxes were smashed. Wardrobe boxes were so dented up that my clothes were crumpled to the bottom of the boxes. I paid for the SAM move because I was assured my items would not be tampered with and remain secure during the move. They broke my lock and moved my belongings into another van without my consent! I considered a lawsuit, but decided it wasn't worth the time or energy. Now, several months later - I receive a notice from their collection department stating that I owe them $2000. I have no idea how they came up with this figure. I paid the entire contractual amount of $5100 in full prior to the move. So looks like this painful saga with Suddath isn't over. UPDATE: I did have to consult an attorney, as they actually wanted to charge me $2000 because of the extra time and labor needed for the movers to break the lock on my SAM unit and re-pack my items into the moving truck -- all of which I did not consent to nor was part of my moving contract. They even threatened to take it to a collection agency! Imagine the audacity of this company that was negligent, breached my moving contract, AND destroyed thousands of dollars worth of my furniture -- now harassing me for more money and threatening to taint my credit! Their corporate office (United Van Lines) finally dropped this once I filed a complaint with the BBB and consulted an attorney. In hindsight, I should have sued them for breach of contract and negligence. read more

We recently moved from El Segundo, California to Alpharetta, Georgia and after shopping around with moving container companies we ultimately chose United Mayflower (and also Blue Chip in California; Suddath Container Systems in Georgia; both by affiliation with United Mayflower). As a consumer, my entire point of hiring United Mayflower for my move was to avoid any stress caused by moving - unfortunately I did not receive that service. Our container was scheduled for pick up on August 1, 2014 in the afternoon with the labor scheduled for that morning. The labor (Joe and Hugh) called throughout the day pushing back the loading time because they were running late - it didn't bother me because we were leaving a few days later and I didn't mind packing up later in the day. What I DO mind is that the driver arrived to pick up the container and was upset (seemingly with us) that it was not loaded - I unfortunately assumed that they were COMMUNICATING with one another, which they expected us to do for them. Eventually the movers arrived, and took quite a while to load our belongings. This is because Joe decided it would be a good idea to break down our couches, which are very heavy to carry in one piece. I did not want to make his job any harder than it already was and he reassured me many times that my couches would be easily reassembled in Georgia. It took him forever to break down the two couches, while the driver stood around for two hours, complaining that he wanted to go home and that they should have just carried them down in one piece. As a consumer, I don't need or want to hear these men bickering about something so ridiculous. ***As a disclaimer, Hugh was incredibly professional, did an amazing job, and I would recommend him to anyone.*** Eventually, the driver asked if it would be okay to pick up the container first thing in the morning on August 4, so he could go home for the day. I agreed since that was the day we were leaving anyhow. The process of moving the container from California to Georgia went completely as planned and I have no complaints about the time it took for this part. When our container was delivered in Georgia on August 20th, the movers (Brandon and Jeremy - great guys) arrived immediately and began unloading everything in an efficient manner. They informed me that the couches should not have been broken down in California in the first place and they did not feel comfortable reassembling them. They then informed me that another company would be sent to do the couches and to get in touch with a gentleman named 'Michael' with United Mayflower about the timing for this event. I did call United Mayflower and they informed me that it was my responsibility to reassemble my couches and gave me an 800 number to another company that reassembles furniture. I became very furious and said that was unacceptable - the man proceeded to tell me that he would get in touch with Blue Chip to determine why my couches were broken down and would get back to me. He never did. I called Blue Chip and left them a voicemail myself. Never heard back. Eventually, about 6 or 7 hours later, another man from United Mayflower called and informed me that he found a company to reassemble my couches the following week (when I already told them I would not be in Georgia that week). When my husband got home that evening, he decided he did not want to wait that long and stayed up until 3 AM figuring out how to reassemble our couches - he called United Mayflower the next morning to inform them that we no longer needed any help and we were offered nothing for our troubles. I am completely disappointed in the lack of communication that occurs between United Mayflower and its affiliates - particularly in California. Had our driver and movers been in touch in El Segundo, I wouldn't have been placed in a strange position to communicate between the two. Also, had there been better communication between our movers in California and our movers in Georgia, I would have insisted that our couches be kept in one piece. The stress that occurred on August 1 and then again on August 20 is reason enough for me to never use them again. Not only that, but the labor portion of our move cost us $1000 - when we moved from Austin, Texas to El Segundo in early 2013, we used PODS and hired movers on our own - labor then cost us about $400 total and our couches were moved (in one piece) with no problem. I would much rather go through the process of finding movers on my own, knowing that everything will be DONE and complete without the worry of me having to reassemble things on my own. We used 'Square Cow Movers' in Austin and 'Man With A Truck - Moving & Delivery' in El Segundo - I recommend them whole-heartedly. read more

We have moved out of state several times, and after our last experience (with a moving company I'll not name) I was feeling very stressed out about this one... However, from beginning to end I always felt that I could call our Personal Move Counselor with any questions or concerns we had. Even when our place wasn't ready and we found out MID-MOVE that we couldn't get into our house, she handled everything to put our stuff in storage and get it delivered at a later date! The movers themselves were friendly, clean, courteous, and fast (but careful!) I don't know if they did it on purpose, but we even had one mover who was there moving day, came to do some unpacking, and also came back 2 months later to pick up our empty boxes! Seeing a familiar face makes things much more comfortable :) Over the course of our 1300 mile move (and storage), a couple things inevitably got bumped, but the claims department was so easy to work with! They sent the furniture repair people out for an estimate the following week, and called me back before the end of the week to get things settled. I was so impressed by Suddath- I hope others will have the same great experience we did, because moving is so stressful! read more

Called this company and a guy name Ken came out to give me a FULL pre-move estimate. I agreed and signed to the estimate and a date was scheduled for August. Severals day before the scheduled move, I called several times to inquire about billing services and requirements. No one ever called me back. TWO DAYS before the move Ken wanted me to pay the entire $4200 up front before anythg was moved. He never said ANYTHING abt paying up front. I WAS born at night but not LAST NIGHT. No moving company ever makes a customer pay the entire bill up front. I have worked in the military and for the federal government over 20 years so I am no idiot to moving. I have live in many places including overseas. When I asked him why he never called me back he said he was soooo busy and " could not find his work cell phone." A bunch of malarky. When I finally spoke to Ken He said the company didnt want to get "screwed over" if I didnt pay the $4200. I see now what type of company this is now??? So he wanted his money up front before any services were provided. There was NOTHING in the pre-schedule paper work stating the customer had to paid in full. Im not stupid so I immediately felt the problem was my "skin color and not my word, nor my integrity nor company policy. "Welcome to the SOUTH!" So, ken thought just because I was scheduled to move within a day, I would pay up front like an Idiot.. WRONG!! Told Ken him and his prejudice company to go "kick ROCKS!" I found another company the next day. I paid a $75 schedule fee and they move went perfect!! Maya Van lines did a great job and they were cheaper. Maya Van lines didn't stereotype me like Ken made me feel with his preposterous reason for wanting me to pay up $4200 up front. Way to treat a customer and a gulf war VETERAN Suddath!! read more

Moving from St. Louis to Austin couldn't have been easier From start to finish, the communication was great, all the movers were professional and they hit EVERY timeline. The most important thing... I was able to get my coordinator on the phone whenever I needed. After a move, 2 months of storage, we delivered 498 out of 500 pieces. I will take this rate any day. We're in the middle of a move right now from Atlanta to Austin. Our move was picked up on June 27th, and was given a delivery date of July 5-10. We did our part and arrived in Austin on July 4th, and we're sleeping on the floor. It is now July 9th, and we are now being told our truck will be combined with another load in South Carolina on Friday, July 13th, and then head to Austin. I'm waiting for the good folks at Suddath to fix this. Customer service is easy when all goes well, so let's see what you've got. I'm happy to change my review if they turn things around. read more

This was the worst experience I have ever had in a lifetime of long-distance moving. I will never recommend United Mayflower Containers. Our container came from Suddath. I ordered a container online and read all the contracts that came with. I verified my driveway would meet their specifications for delivery in my driveway. On delivery day, the driver refused to place the container in the driveway, saying it would not fit, even though we showed him our contract and dimensions saying that United said it would. He said he gets final discretion in placement and refused to place it in the driveway. Instead, he placed it on the street, which is illegal in the city of Atlanta without a permit. We begged him not to but he did anyway, and we also asked him to not block a neighbor's driveway and to move the container away from it a little, which he refused. He drove away and left it. Since they parked it illegally, we wanted to load it as quickly as possible and get it out of the city before it got a ticket. We did so, and I went online to the website to where it said "call us when you want to ship your container one way". So I did -- only to discover that the rep in Missouri said our container could not be shipped out of state. They said they couldn't do anything to help us either. It was "our problem" -- direct quote from the rep, Mike Heiger. We called Suddath, the local office who delivered it, and arranged for a pickup to store in a facility to get it off the street until we could figure out how to get it shipped. The driver arrived to pick it up and was unable to get it on his truck. The reason was that even though our contract said we were allowed 7500 lb, his truck can only pick up 5000 lb. So he left -- again. Called Suddath, they could not do anything; called the Missouri office, they also could not do anything. Both said to call the other and it was the other's problem. This went on for a month; Suddath had illegally parked a container on the street in front of our home and refused to figure out how to get it out. We ended up emptying the container into a trailer from upack.com to ship it one way. I will NEVER EVER recommend or even think nice things about such a terrible service like United Mayflower Containers or Suddath. The call center in MO constantly told us to call Suddath, the local office, and Suddath told us to call the call center in MO. All the people we talked to were terrible, terrible, terrible. While my move out in California was a dream, my move in in Atlanta was a nightmare. I've done numerous moves - local, cross country and international and this was by far the worst. The movers were late because they couldn't find my home, they were unprepared for the size of my home despite having my address and square footage ahead of time. They didn't have enough protective covering for my floors and walls. Rather than address the problem by getting more supplies, they said they would move in stages, covering an area, move items, then shift the protective covering to move boxes into other areas. Boxes were placed directly on newly refinished hardwood floors with no protection underneath. Result: Scratched hardwoods and scuffed walls throughout my new home. I made a claim for damages and after taking over a month to provide a settlement offer, they denied the majority of the claim and offered enough $ for a few cans of paint but certainly not enough to refinish floors. The damage repair will likely cost me more than the entire cross-country move, more than doubling my costs, not to mention the hassle of moving furniture and vacating to allow for floors to be refinished. Absolutely unprepared and unprofessional and I'm left with a damaged new home that was flawless (new construction) before the Suddath Atlanta movers arrived. I wish I'd gone with ACE Relocation who did my last move. If you value your home, don't trust Suddath to move you! read more

Great company to work with! Specifically Teri Coffey who handled all my needs. Ordering the unit and payment were very easy. When I needed extra assistance, they were easy to reach and accommodating. The only hiccup I had (and reason for not giving a full five star rating) was partially my fault: I had to change the pickup date last minute and it took an additional 12 days for Suddath to pickup while the unit sat in my driveway in the sweltering heat instead of their climate controlled facility. But that was an unusual circumstance and I am basing the review on the whole of my experience. read more

Worst experience ever! We used them for a pod and storage of that pod while we are remodeling our home. When we first hired them it was Mayflower. Mayflower left and it is now just Suddath. When the transition was happening I called several times to make sure there was nothing we needed to do. Once the transition was complete I sent over our credit card information several times to attempt to get it set back up with automatic withdrawal. The last time I did it was with email and I got a confirmation email stating that it was done. I just received a call from them with a $731.00 bill because we have not been charged for the past several months. No one knows what happened (even though I have provided the emails that were exchanged with the contact names on them) and they are offering no compensation for the issue. If they are this unorganized with their own business then what does that say about the organization of my things. We are attempting to get our things back from them and change companies. I would NOT recommend them. read more

I feel 2 different ways about this company. Sarah Jones, my moving coordinator was 1st class. Great customer service, always kept in touch, called me back better than promptly. The men who delivered my belongings were also 1st class. It was pouring rain when they delivered & they made sure to protect not only my stuff off the truck, but the floors & everything in my home. As for the men that picked my belonging up, totally different story. I believe they were all hung-over, one guy had a black eye from a bar fight he got in the night before. There were 3 of them & it took them 10+ hours to fill their truck, to what was essentially a 2 bedroom apartment. I had to put stuff on the truck to help speed things up. They broke a bunch of our things because of carelessness, not to mention that they didn't correctly weight my stuff, so when it was picked up for delivery, it had to come in 2 different shipments because the 1st truck was overweight. Pat, the manager, did an "ok" job in making sure I was happy/compensated, however he doesn't really understand customer service as far as I'm concerned. It took him too long to talk to me, he tried to tell me what was important & took too long to give me what I needed (although I finally did get what I thought was fair). read more
