I've been going to Freddy's Pizza since before I was even born--it was actually my mom's pregnancy craving! Growing up, Freddy was always so kind and welcoming. There were even times when my friends and I were short on money, and he'd make sure we still got to eat. That's something I've never forgotten. To this day, it's still my favorite pizza, and in my opinion, it's way better than Toppers. The food is always great, but what really makes this place special is the people and the memories that come with it. Although Freddy has since passed away, his family continues to run the restaurant and has kept the same welcoming atmosphere and quality that made so many people love this place in the first place. The other day I stopped in for the first time in a while. My daughter comes here often with her grandma, but I hadn't been back recently. To my surprise, my 3-year-old ate almost an entire medium pizza by herself! The next morning, she woke up asking for more. First off hands down great customer service!! Guy was super friendly and welcoming for our first time. The reason for 4 stars-- I was given a lot of praise over this place, told it was the best , super flavorful and top tier however it seemed average to me and flavor wasn't as potent or there for me. In search of a calzone that makes you wanna come back and it's not this place. In a small unassuming location, you'll find Freddy's pizza right off of Ventura Boulevard and Hemlock. Seems like it could be a great find or an unforgettable place . I was in the mood for a calzone and you can't get that at Domino's, which is the nearby location option so I thought let me check this place out greeted by a grumpy server. I ordered a sausage calzone. Made fresh and had it in about 12 minutes in consideration that it's a $15 purchase. I asked if I could have some ranch with it and he said that'll be two dollars more. I thought that must be a sizable serving of ranch. 3 ounce cup And then I felt damn slightly rough, but understandable I'll pass . So I have the calzone and my report is it's bland. It's basic and it's forgettable. It's on the disappointing side of experience the overall experience at the location, the service and the food where somewhere around a 2.2 and that's my take on it. It's not bad, but it's not something to make you come back for it. Why is it popular? How does it survive? My go to pizza place in Ventura County. I have tried quite a few places and while some have their own twist that make it good, this place is my go to spot for a pizza night. I typically order there special, large 1 topping pizza with a wings and a 2 liter. It's pricey at almost 60 bucks. The wings are good sizes and great flavor. I order the buffalo. Pizza is the most New YoBuffalo. I've had around. Thin, no flop, great flavor. Fast, effective, and they do delivery but ive actually never do that since it's close to me I end up picking it up. Family owned pizza shop. Branch of Ameci I think when first opened. A lot of local history here from the original owners. My only only negative, aside from price, is in my experience I get two different types of pizzas depending on who is cooking. I always trust when the owner is cooking but there is a younger crew who I experience noticeable difference in taste when they cook. I call and make sure to ask who is cooking. At close to 60 a pop for the order I want what I consider good. Great local place. Definitely try it out. They have a great inexpensive lunch combo and sell pizza by the slice!!! read more

I finally came back after not visiting Oxnard since November. I used to live in Oxnard and came often with my dad and sometimes alone and we got to know Eddie. I hadn't been there in 8 months and when I walked in Eddie still remembered me! He immediately recognized me and said "Lauren!" when I walked in. He said he wondered where I had been and asked how my dad was. Then when I left he hugged me. It made my first visit back so special. I ordered my usual: cheese calzone and it was amazing. That marinara sauce is so good. I also ordered a bottle of water and a slice to go for my dad (all the way back in LA because he loves this pizza so much) and he said those were on the house. You only get a few sprinkles of each of the toppings, so I'm not sure how it justified to cost that much. 6 small slices for pretty much $31 after taxes. My opinion, it's better off getting affordable pizza somewhere else (Domino's) for a fraction of the price with more quantities. Being a pastrami lover and a pizza lover i was eager to experience how this place was going to join the two completely different flavors of foods. We just moved to the area and had Freddy's Pizza for the first time and it was a hit. We ordered the Fettuccine Alfredo with Chicken, a dinner salad and cannolis. Everything was great. The pasta hit the pasta craving spot, the chicken was well seasoned and not overcooked. The dinner salad with the house vinaigrette was great, very fresh. The cannolis were so delicious. Tasted just as great as the ones we would get back in Italy when we studied abroad. We look forward to making this part of our date night rotation! My husband first introduced me to this place. He had heard many good things about Freddy's. Freddy's is really close to my house, so close in fact that you could walk there to pick-up your food. We started ordering from Freddy's I'd say mid-2019, just before the start of the pandemic & we continued to order from there because there was something for everyone in the family. Well, all of a sudden there was a turn for the worst. The main cook & people in charge were not there & whomever was left in charge either didn't care or didn't think they'd get caught up. I ordered the usual sausage & onion pizza for my hubby, garlic bread for my nephew, a veggie sub for myself & Alfredo pasta for my Dad & I to share. Nothing was made right, but the biggest give away was when we had the Alfredo... it was 1/2 the quantity of pasta & sauce & it was TERRIBLE. I called back & the woman I spoke with really didn't care. Her attitude was so cavalier & she really could give a SHIIT. It was only after I told her that I'd never come back & write a review if this horrible experience that she offered a 10% discount. To be honest, that pissed me off more. There was no way I'd be coming back to buy any food from them & I've stuck to my guns. I have not been back in the last year. SAVE YOUR TIME & YOUR MONEY. AND IF YOU ARE IN THE PARKING LOT READING THIS, TURN AROUND & LEAVE. I love pizza places that sell by the slice because I end up throwing away so much pizza. This place caught my eye since I was in the neighborhood filling up my water. The pizza slices are big and hefty, one slice is enough for a meal! It's only $3.00! You can add any topping for 50 cents. The crust is dough-y, and a bit chewy. I guess that's NY style? You can tell they make the pizza in house, and it tastes like an old family recipe. The guys who own this place are very serious and work hard. The service was fast and efficient. Inside, it's a quintessential pizza joint with hundreds of friendly graffiti notes on wall. (Literally, the writings on the wall). The reason I took off a star is because I took a bite of the crust and it tasted like dial soap. I couldn't get that taste out of my mouth. Someone must have washed their hands and left soap on them, and handled the pizza. I had to spit it out and wash my mouth out! So I didn't end up eating the whole slice afterall. Family owned and extremely delicious, the energy in here is so wholesome - what more could you ask for? I got a half cheese and half veggie pizza, the cheese was beautifully cheesy with a nice long pull. THAT is how you know it's quality cheese! Even the crust was toasted to perfection but I have to say the best part is, this is the first time in my life I haven't had acid reflux after eating pizza. Magical!! Freddy made his sauce fresh and his family continues to do so today and it shows! Don't hold back on the Garlic Cheese rolls, those were so good I couldn't even get a picture. I ordered a large pepperoni pizza, regular crust and a Philly cheese steak sandwich. It was really good. I'm super picky so that really means something. The ONLY advice I would give to the restaurant is to add some kind of Au Jus sauce or even the steak juices from the steak on the side to dip the sandwich in. If I could give negative stars I would. I ordered online, and got confirmation text of the order with the delivery time. When I called about my order that didn't get delivered her response to me was 'look lady I dropped off your order at your house'. She was super rude and argued with me for 5 minutes that she dropped it off at the address. I asked her to describe the house, and she couldn't. Then asked her where the front door of my house was and she said it was up a flight of stairs on the second floor and that is where she dropped it off. Since my door is not on the second floor I knew she was lying. Long story short she called several other times and left voice mails that my address was 20 minutes away, then it was 7 miles away and was out of their delivery range. I finally got ahold of a manager who originally told me the employee dropped off the food. He did finally realize that she was lying about the delivery and remade my order and delivered it. So two hours after ordering, 3 very rude voicemails, and 2 worse conversations on the phone i got the pizza and salad that cost $55. read more
