We had been going to 1901 whenever we had something to celebrate or if we just wanted a higher level dinner. My husband and I have always loved it. We are heartbroken that it has remained closed for now over a year. It's interesting that two months ago someone wrote an incredible review of it. Yes when they were open for all the years we would go to it. everything from the meals to the service was on point. Which is why we're so sad that it looks like especially when we try to see through the windows. It doesn't look like it's ever reopening. Can anyone who actually knows instead of speculating provides some helpful information? read more

I finally got to visit The 1901 Restaurant located at Heritage Square in downtown Oxnard. I've previously been to the downstairs bar years ago before the name change. Glad to see that this establishment is still around. Plenty of free parking in their lot & street parking is available. You prolly wouldn't know that this is a restaurant. What you see are Victorian Houses. These are all different businesses. If I was new here, I would of totally passed by The 1901. But I'm familiar with the area, so I knew where to go. Stairs to get to the front door. Dining area is on the 1st level of the house. Amanda was our server on a Wednesday evening when we had date night. She was very pleasant & attentive even though she was the only server that evening. She was on top of things & gave some great recommendations. I appreciate that Amanda was very familiar with the menu & I was impressed that she memorized all of the specials of the day. Amanda you are a 5/5!! Keep it up!! I would definitely look for Amanda on my next visit!! We enjoy Italian cuisine & definitely inhaled our meals with some leftovers to take home. The lasagna was good & a great portion. My +1 liked it. The Short Rib Special was a generous portion as well. The meat was buttery soft. I didn't realize it, until I figured out I was barely using my butter knife lol. The Short Rib Special was definitely savory. It had a touch of sweetness from the dollop of cream cheese, I believe mascarpone. Thanks 1901! We will return, hopefully soon. read more

Adding to my previous reviews, came to this restaurant again, it definitely is one of our fave date nights! We saw one of our favorite waitresses, Vickie who is SUPER SWEET! always checking on you, always making sure you are ok and quick. Everyone here is always nice. Hubby ordered the steak as usual and I tried the pork loin both SO GOOD! I wanted to add, we were able to bring our bottle of champagne and they put it on ice, that was a nice thing to be able to do. Again if you are in the area, for great food, great pricing def give 1901 a try! you will not regret! read more

I don't know what happened to my review. Perhaps mentioning staff by name for providing good service or maybe pointing out great food and drinks. I highly recommend the Tomahawk steak, bread pudding and apple turnover with vanilla ice cream a la mode. It's been a while since I've eaten there but all were memorable. I had taken some photos of the speakeasy bar in the basement. It's has a really cool ambiance and very friendly service. I'm just sad that my previous review was somehow removed. I was really looking forward to checking out The 1901 in Oxnard -- I've heard good things and was excited to finally try it out. Unfortunately, when I arrived, the place was completely closed. The plaza was deserted, and there was no sign of life at the restaurant. What's more confusing is that Yelp (and other sites) still listed them as open. I'm not sure if they've recently shut down or if it was just a one-off closure, but it was definitely disappointing to make the trip and find it dark and empty. If they are out of business, I hope the owners are doing well -- but if not, I'd recommend calling ahead just in case. read more

1901 - you outdid yourself. I visited this restaurant for a friend's birthday with a group of 7 women. Each of us ordered something different and we all loved our meal. The prices l, the atmosphere, our waitress Vicky (outstanding) took care of us and we never had to wait. 1901 is a very nice spot in Oxnard, yes in Oxnard. The restaurant has a very nice space for outside dining complete with a nice water wall for relaxation. I ordered the Spaghetti which was very rich and was quite tasty. It did not refrigerate well though. There were two younger kiddos with us and they were served first and enjoyed their dinners and some tasty French fry's. Service was excellent and prompt. After dinner we enjoyed a nice concert in the bar preformed by "Ticket to Ride". They are Beatles impersonators and were excellent. If you are ever in that neck of the world, you would probably enjoy your visit. read more

We're coming back! The best seafood linguine I've ever had; the clams, mussels salmon and scallops were oh my goodness great. I can't eat shrimp and the chef was able to pass them along to my dinner mates. Had mussels with bread-yum. Very nice of the waiter to keep the bread basket full. Yummy drinks. Both of my mates had the sea bass. I had enough linguine for a couple meals. The space was tight; old Victorian house. Despite moving to another chair my mate was still climbed over by the staff getting to the bread and dessert station. I watched as a hungry waiter sliced the bread and ate a piece. We skipped dessert and went for McConnell ice cream. read more

My friend and I were in search of Italian food and found this to be just the spot. They were booked in the restaurante section however, were able to seat us right away in the speakeasy. The staff was extremely kind and accommodating to us despite us not having a reservation. Despite being in the speakeasy we were still able to order from the restaurant menu. We ordered the lasagna & gnocchi which were both delicious! We ended our dinner with an order of the Tiramisu. The tiramisu was a great portion and definitely shareable for two. read more

Last night (Friday, March 3rd) my good friend & I decided to try this place out. Formerly La Dolce Vita (the Sweet Life), they transitioned to The 1901 a year & a half ago. I made a reservation for 6 PM, but we arrive a little earlier (20 mins). I arrived first, but was seated right away in the second room on the main floor, right next to the wine holder (it's literally a window paned, iron wine holder). It's actually really cool & interesting. Our server was Samuel, who was so knowledgeable & thorough in explaining the menu, wines & specials. We ordered... Calamari Mushroom Champagne Soup Pesto Penne & Duck Salmon Piccata w/Linguine & Veggies Tiramisu The calamari was light & crisp. It just needed a tiny bit more salt & it was perfect! I had a spoon full of the mushroom soup... it was divine! I feel so inspired by it that I will make a plant-based version for myself. The salmon was perfectly cooked, as was the vegetables & pasta. The tiramisu was huge! It's definitely enough for 2-3 people, maybe even a 4th. I happily took home leftovers. My hubby enjoyed the 2/3rds of the tiramisu left. I will be taking my hubby here, where I'm sure he will order a steak or pork chops. The ambiance was lovely, the service was top notch & it's so close yo home because it's right in the middle of Oxnard. It's funny because it doesn't feel like we are in Oxnard while dining here, but we are & it's in Oxnards Heritage Square. When I first arrived, I was a bit confused. Let me explain: the downstairs area is a beautiful speakeasy, and somehow we ended up there initially, even though we had reservations for the restaurant upstairs. We only realized this after asking the bartender. It turns out you actually pass through the speakeasy to reach the restaurant. Once we made it upstairs, we were impressed--the restaurant was spotless, and the staff were fantastic. The food we ordered was phenomenal! From the duck to the lasagna, everything was absolutely delicious, and the portions were generous enough to have leftovers for the next day's dinner. I highly recommend this place! Just recently discovered this place and WOWZERS! From the moment we walked in... excellent hospitality. Vickie was our waitress and she was GREAT! We ordered the porterhouse steak and the rack of lamb. Best dinner of the year. It was all cooked to perfection and pair with a great glass of wine. After dinner we walked downstairs to their speakeasy bar were we enjoyed some really nice libations and their live music around their fireplace. Definitely my new favorite spot. First time trying this restaurant lead by a quick yelp search and it did NOT disappoint! The interior is cozy, the music is pleasant, and the decorations are beautiful. We were promptly seated by our server April. She was extremely courteous, efficient, and knowledgeable about what they offer. My wife and I both tried their "specials" off the menu. The food is where everything was. Portions were generous, steak and pasta were so simple yet tasty. They also had a good selection of wine to choose from. After several days of working an event in Ventura and subsisting on road food like pizza and burgers, I was ready for a good drink and a quality meal. A quick Yelp search led me to 1901, which had great reviews, a unique location, and the added bonus of a speakeasy. I decided to check it out for an early Saturday dinner. I ended up downstairs in the speakeasy, which had a cool and comfortable vibe. The bartender was knowledgeable, and the staff were all welcoming and friendly. I started with a Tito's and soda with an orange slice, and it was perfect--generously sized and with a good pour of vodka. The full restaurant menu is available at the speakeasy bar, so I began with a wedge salad. It featured fresh, crisp lettuce, flavorful tomatoes, and thick bacon crumbles, with most of the produce sourced locally. Next, I had the sliced New York pepper steak, served medium rare with a savory pepper sauce and a medley of grilled vegetables. To my surprise, it also came with a classic baked potato topped with butter, chives, sour cream, and bacon on the side. I finished the meal with bread pudding and a glass of Blanton's Bourbon. It was a fantastic experience, and I'll definitely be back next year! read more

What a trip!! Accidentally discovered this place, thank you Yelp, and I instantly fell in love with this place. Loved the home decor where it reminds me of Pink House in Savanna, GA w/ CA twist. Delicious food! I ordered the lamb and my dad ordered the cioppino. They tasted amazing, and the presentation was quite picture-worthy (sorry we didn't take the photos!) Very chill laid back spot hidden in Heritage square the mood can be very chill or possibly a little upbeat depending if there is live music. The food from La Dolce Vita as well as the snacking food the have such as the garlic fries and calamari pair so good with a lot of their cocktails. 1901 has some seriously impressive food--the quality and flavors were excellent. I had some of the best gnocchi and chicken I've ever had, with generous portions at a fair price. However, the service left a lot to be desired. My steak was initially cooked incorrectly and had to be sent back, which was frustrating. On top of that, the tall male server I had was unhelpful, rude, and clearly not happy to be there, which really took away from the experience. One other small thing--if you're serving canned sodas, please make sure they're refrigerated. Receiving a lukewarm can with a glass of ice just results in a watered-down drink. Overall, the food alone is worth coming back for, but I hope the service improves because this place has real potential to be an amazing dining experience. read more

The fresh bread they brought out was delicious with a lovely salty crust. The Bolognese sauce was awesome. The service was great. Staff was super friendly. Atmosphere inside was intimate, yet comfortable. Perfect for a meal for one, date night, or conversation with a friend. There outdoor seating area was very pretty as well. Cocktail menu was fun, and they have a speakeasy-like bar in the basement that had great before dinner or after dinner vibes. I wish I lived nearby so I could try more of their menu! read more

This was our first time there. We had reservations and were seated promptly. The food was very good, some were not consistent as a few In our party ordered the same dish and you could visibly see that some of the dishes had more cheese, sauce, and noodles than the rest. This was the Shrimp Scampi. It may have been because they were running out of food, not sure. They were also out of lasagna which I was surprised about. The food also lacked salt. The beef bolognese was very good as well. One of the servers didn't seem happy to be there but were helped by a trio of workers who were generally very pleasant. Again, the food was pretty good. The ambience was nice as we were seated on the outside patio with a nice view of the heritage square plaza. The desert, was great. We had the bread pudding. All food items were nice sized portions.
