let me start by raving about the carbs. I LOVE CARBS! the hash browns were true diner-style square blobs of frozen shredded potato. actually, not sure if they're frozen, but hey, that's the way my mom used to buy 'em! in any case, i love that style...so i was all over them like ketchup on hash browns. then, the french toast...i had a few bites of the bf's french toast, but i was super glad i didn't substitute MY hash brown/toast combo for the french toast. it was too sweet for what i was craving that morning...but still, it was good and i can understand why you all rave about it. it's not unlike FUNNEL CAKE. it tastes just like it, actually. the omelette i had was simple, cheese + tomato. bf's omelette had some chicken apple sausage which turned out to have some fine twang and wasn't sweet and gross like a lot of chicken apple sausage i've had in the past. and i've had my share of chicken apple sausage, if that even makes any sense. in conclusion, sausalito is lucky to have fred's. read more

We go for the D.F. French toast, but stay for the cheesy eggs, good coffee and friendly prompt waitstaff... While probably not the most healthy choice, the French Toast is like none I have had anywhere else. Sort of like a huge donut with Syrup (pay for the real Syrup, or am I confusing another place...) They might have other good stuff, it always looks good, but I can't avoid the French Toast...just make sure to do some Cardio afterwards! Love it! read more

Did an all nighter driving up to Frisco. We were looking for a breakfast spot near the north side of the Golden Gate. Yelped it, this place was the closest so we decided to check it out. Location- pretty cool little place. has the potential to suck if it gets packed. Now the important stuff, the fizzood!! Food- pretty damn good. I got the pancake and french toast with eggs, toast, and hash. Coffee. Pancake was off the hook in every way; taste, texture, size. French Toast was unlike anything I have ever had; the texture was amazing, serving size is what you would expect. My only complaint about it is that it lacked a little flavor, the batter could have used a little cinnamon or vanilla extract, OJ , something. Eggs & hash were solid. Coffee was coffee... Will be coming back next fall when I drive up for the Battle of the Bay. Go RAIDERS!!! read more

who knew the swedish breakfast would be so awesome? After a chill bike ride over the GG bridge we decided to stop and chill for a bit. we rode through town and passed all these really awesome looking cafe's because we had heard about this one diner that was the best. Fred's. An unassuming name considering the variety of their offerings as well as the quality of their grubs. The crab scramble was shock full of crabs and other yummy things. (like shrooms, and veggies of all sorts.) the mimosa's were a treat made with their valencia orange juice (not always my favorite, but hit the spot this morning.) My BF and I went to Fred's for the Sunday lunch. So unlike everyone else, we had lunch menu items - roasted chicken sandwich and California burger. Both of those were really good! Huge burger with generous amount of super crispy fries!!! (That's my kind of fries!) And my side salad was huge, too! Fred's has good, affordable food with hard working stuff members. Their interior is warm and relaxing and the restaurant is filled with local people, sharing big tables... I will come back for sure! We will try those breakfast items next time that everyone loves. read more

They turn two eggs into five by beating them in a milkshake machine and butter is a given here so be prepared. You really can't go wrong with a meal here as long as you remember my warning. Awesome little local restaurant in Sausalito! The service was very efficient! I came here twice. First time I ordered the Primo Melt which was very savory! Second time I ordered the highly reviewed deep fried French toast aka Fat Fred! It was nice, big and delicious. They made it seem small at first saying that it's only two wedges but they failed to say it's two HUGE wedges. Overall, great place for breakfast with efficient service. Quite a drive for quite a meal. Packed place with a line and I understand why. We had the Blackstone Eggs benedict which was good and enough for two to share. It was a little overpowered by either red pepper or some other unneeded hot spice. The coffee is bold in flavor and seriously good. It's a popular place but expect a crowded experience. The service was good too. The place offers outdoor seating and has heat lamps. I suggest trying the delicious sauces they have on the table with your eggs. This place was AMAZING from start to finish. The minute I put my name on the list the staff was super attentive and friendly. I came here for an artery-clogging breakfast on the 4th of July. It was pretty packed, but it seemed that people coming in alone or in twos didn't have much of a wait for a seat at the counter. I couldn't resist trying the french toast afer all the mentions by other Yelpers. It was pretty awesome, but I can see why some would consider it too dessert-y for a main dish. The sausage was tasty, and the side of fresh fruit was a generous portion with a lot of variety. The DEEP FRIED FRENCH TOAST ROCKS the SOCKS!! It is a must have. It was worth the drive from the Peninsula. For you Bratwurst lovers theirs is a MUST have!! The portions are quite large so come with an appetite. I had the short stack with a bratwurst which comes with 2 eggs (light fluffy and yes yummy). and it was very filling. Not a lot of parking but if you get there early you won't have a problem. Also, for seating it's like Benihana, be prepared to share a table. It's really not bad. Fred's has its fair share of accolades for said, "to DIE for" french toast. So I'm gonna give some accolades for the long lunch I took at Fred's the other day at the scrumptious BLT I consumed. Prepared on toasted hearty wheat toast, the crisp lettuce, flavorful tomatoes each complimented the thick and juicy bacon. The spear pickle alongside was delightful! We dined over a late lunch, albeit long, it was not crowded but a steady stream of frequenters occupied the place. The waitstaff was friendly, and each dish I saw come over the counter just as good as the BLT. My colleague has such a juicy hamburger he had to ask for a second plate! I'd say they know their diner food. Now that I've approved Fred's for lunch, I'm hoping to get out of bed early enough to beat the rush on the "to DIE for" french toast. I had some friends visiting the art festival in Sausalito, so after grabbing them from the city, we drove over the bridge for some tasty brunch at Fred's. I love my breakfasts, so I was hoping to be absolutely wowed from what I've heard, and for the most part, was not disappointed. Seating was sparse, as this place is very popular, so we were seated at half a table across from other diners. Different than what I was expecting, but still a pretty cool way to meet people, even though we did not talk very much. I opted for breakfast, having a plate of pancakes, sausage, eggs and toast. The pancakes were big, fluffy, and really good at soaking up the syrup. The sausage eggs and toast were great...although you can't really screw those up too bad! If you're in the area and want a quick breakfast, this is the place to go. The staff is friendly, the food is really good, and the prices are easy on the pocketbook. I wouldn't call it the BEST breakfast I've ever had, but it ranks high on the list! read more

Ok....so for the food alone, I give it a 4 star. Service is mixed so that's why I stayed with 4 stars. We took some friends from out of town to Sausalito because they heard so much about it and wanted to visit. I didn't want to pay an arm and a leg for breakfast at some fancy shimancy restaurant by the water so I relied on my fellow Yelpers. This place came highly rated and it is very reasonable so we gave it a shot. We got there around 9 am and there was already a crowd waiting in front. We asked how long the wait was for 4 people and they told us 30 mins. Not bad....so we decided to wait. No mention about being short of a cook and the wait could potentially be longer....nothing. So we waited about 30 mins for our table and were promptly seated. The waiter was very curteous and friendly. Since we waited so long, we already knew what we wanted so he took our order right away. Thinking, ok...we should get our food in 20 mins. NOPE. After about 40 mins of wait, I walked into the restaurant to inquire about our food, and the owner gave a short response, "Sorry we only have 1 cook. He's doing the best he can." Uh.....so why didn't you say so in the first place? I was a bite annoyed. Our waiter came out and told us they only had 1 cook because the other one went on vacation. VACATION!!! So they couldn't plan for things? If I was the owner, I'd jump in and fill in if that was what it takes. Seriously....we sat there for 2.5 hours. That is just waaay too long for breakfast. The food on the other hand, was very good; hence the mix review. The fried french toast is the bomb. It tasted like funnel cakes. My benedic with the Millionaire Bacon is delicious. I highly recommend the Millionaire Bacon, it's not spicy at all. My husband's crab omlete is very forgetful so steer clear from that; it's not worth the money. If you happen to be visiting Sausalito, then I recommend you come here. However, make sure they have enough cooks and definitely try the fried french toast and the Millionaire Bacon. I on the other hand, will not be coming back to Sausalito any time soon...I hope. If I do, I'll look into this place and plan for a back up place just in case. read more

The best Coffee Shop breakfast I've had in a long long time. Was in SF for a brief vacation and looked for a good breakfast spot. We chose Freds since we could also spend the morning walking around Sausalito. We sat at the counter, which was fine and gave us the opportunity to observe the chefs do their thing. I ordered a ham and egg scramble which came with hash browns and toast. My friend ordered the Greek omelet. The egg dishes were prepared perfectly. The hash browns were also perfectly cooked. Crispy on the outside and tender and fluffy on the inside. The servings are large. The service was fast, efficient and friendly. There is really nothing more to say about Freds. Trust me, Fred's will not disappoint!!! We both ordered 2 scrambled eggs, which was more like 4, I got the Fred's hash browns and my husband got the millionaires bacon. The Fred's hash browns were covered in fresh mushrooms, peppers, onions, bacon and cheese! And the millionaires bacon was sprinkled with brown sugar and slightly spicy!!
