I left the doors over the weekend and they called me to notify me that one of them was broken. Have used them several times over the years they are good for straight forward glass and rescreen projects but lack being helpful for special projects like cutting any type of curve or drilling holes is glass. If you looking for simple square glass they are fair priced but if you are looking for anything special then you will need to look elsewhere. I have few rental properties and I have used Fred's about 4 times. They have fixed broken windows, install windows, fixed sliding glass doors (put a new track, put new rollers) for me. They are the real deal - answers the phone right away/ fast and easy set up appointments / keep you updated / good prices / get the job done. Some unhappy person took a rock or something and hit my apartment bedroom window with it early early Christmas morning. I discovered it about four hours later, when I opened the blinds and removed my cardboards with the aluminum foil on them (which block the sunlight during hotter months). The one cardboard had blocked the sound of the glass being shattered. Apt mgr and owner both told me to leave it as the hole was still small, because NOBODY could come board it up to protect my apartment from the cold and rain. Liars. Fred's could've come out and boarded me up or fixed it right away. So I elected to put some aluminum foil outside the window and tape it there til today. Mgr's husband was 'too busy' to tape it for me. This morning at 9 a.m. I called and talked to Cheryl and she gave me an estimate. To come to my apartment and do the job here would have cost about $250 dollars. Fine. I told the apt manager about it and she said 'Oh well Max wants my husband to remove it and take it to Fred's to fix there and bring back, to save money.' 'Oh, okay good thanks.' He came, took it out easily from outside, and left. I waited. And waited. Knowing he had taken it to Fred's. I called the shop, it wasn't Cheryl but another gal who was confused. TOLD her it was being done for the apartment manager's husband who was there and had been there for about an hour now. I just was concerned and wanted to know if they were done and he was on his way home. Because the rain was going to be inside my apartment any minute and it was freezing outside. She didn't understand and insisted that I was confused, and that I had NOT placed my order yet so they had NOT even started and needed to come to my apartment. I patiently explained again that it was this apartment owner's NAME and they were THERE right now getting it done, and could she check for me please? She was ANGRY and told me I had NOT ordered the window and she was not sending ANYONE to fix my window!!! And my questions were disrespectful!!! And recently asked them to warranty a job that they done for me. Not only were they extremely rude about it, they said if I didn't have the invoice they would not help me. Awesome job here! I came in with a double pane, low-e glass, broken window, with a white vinyl frame. I showed up with my window a little late yesterday. I was assured that window and screen would be ready the next day. Well, I live in the north side of San Bernardino. By the time I picked my son up from school (within the hour of dropping window off), Fred's called and left a voicemail, saying that my window and screen were both ready. Ok, so I just got off the phone with Fred. What a rude, abusive and mean owner. I should have taped the call, but as I look down the reviews, I see others experienced the same level of treatment. My story goes like this: I asked my property manager for a non retail bid price on a window that was vandalized along with other units in our building that were vacant since they were doing repairs on the the vacant units. (Apparently that is on me to fix, but not the point). The price I got quoted was up there (aprox $700 for a single 6*4 ft tinted window) and I thought, that seemed a little rich, so I called in and asked for just a retail quote. Fred got on the phone within a minute and called me disrespectful, talked over me, and refused to provide me any further service "to protect his relationship with the property manager". This pretty much confirmed my suspicion, that the PM was marking up the price for obtaining the quote. I am actually ok with that, after all, I was the lazy one asking the PM to get me the price...but FRED and the way he immediately attacked me on the phone for asking for a retail bid, and then rudely refusing service while I tried to give him my return phone number is clearly not the kind of vendor you want to do business with. Especially when its his name on the Front door. Stay away. When it goes perfect, I am sure they deserve the numerous 5 start reviews here, but at the slightest hiccup, Fred will leave you hanging like he did me. Fred or his management did respond below, and focused on how he was already contracted to do the job. He wasn't, as I and the PM both had not agreed upon the price yet and were both just requesting a quote. The review says I did not ask for a retail bid, but in the few seconds I was allowed to talk to Fred, all I was trying to communicate was an express desire for just a retail bid which he refused. That does not excuse his behavior. I can't overstate how quickly he tried to steamroll over my basic request, refused to let me talk by him talking over me constantly, cutting me off by putting me on hold while I was talking, returning to ask me for my return phone number and then hanging up on me as I gave it. Now he is asking me to stay silent and remove this review, and I refuse. Websites like this exist specifically so that consumers who work with businesses like Fred's have a forum when they are mistreated or satisfied. Trying to get me to remove my review by changing the story of what happened is just another sign of the hubris that guides how Fred treats his customers. read more

We are making a custom frame for a new mirror in our bathroom and needed to buy a new mirror to fit it. We priced out mirrors online but shipping was insane, so we thought we should call local companies before we ordered. I am so glad we did! Fred's wasn't the cheapest quote we received, but the price was very competitive, and the person who gave us the quote over the phone asked the most questions about the product we wanted -- so we felt assured that we were all on the same page, and that we were both picturing the same thing. (That wasn't always the case with other glass businesses!) And, I should add, that their price was much lower ($150+ less) than prices we saw from online businesses. We decided to go with them on Saturday and called in our order around 10:30 or 11. It was ready for us before 3, and they even helped load it into our car. Fantastic service from start to finish, and we felt like we got a great deal. Buying local is so important to our community, and when one can buy local AND save money, we all win! First off, I did not get service from Fred's, so normally I would not bother to write a review. However, the reason I went with someone else is because Fred's was 25-33% higher than the other 2 quotes I received to replace a single pane of glass on my garage door. In addition to being more expensive, they were the only one of the three who said they could not do it in a single visit- that it would require one visit to measure and a second to bring back the required safety glass on a different day. This is the first I have ever heard of safety glass being required in a garage door- it certainly was not what it came with originally. Even that is not usually enough for me to post a negative review- but since I called to get my quote, I have received *multiple* spam texts from them asking to be added to their "Marketing Campaign". I never gave them permission to contact me via text in the first place, which I think is illegal, and they don't give you an option to opt out- only to reply "YES" if you want *more* notifications. I give companies grace to be more expensive than their competitors- the market will choose who has the best value- but using my phone number for repeated spamming when I never even did business with you is completely unacceptable. read more

Our store was recently robbed and the police called this company to board up the shattered window. When we called the company to find out the cost of repairing the window, we were quoted $150 for the board up and $250 for the glass. When I called Fred (before any other glass companies) to see if we could work out a lower price, I asked very politely if he would be willing to waive the "boarding fee" if we bought the glass replacement from him. Fred got very condescending and trying to use some idiotic scare tactics to try and make me pay the $150 saying he didn't even care about the business for the glass. First thing he said was, "you expect me to eat the cost of the board after you have had it up all day?" Then he tried to say that he would call the police and let them handle it. After I hung up out of irritation he called back and said he was coming to get his board, I asked if that meant that I didn't have to pay the fee to which he said I still had to pay the fee... why would I have to pay for it if he was going to come take the item? I told him he was welcome to take it but not to expect to be paid for it. He never picked it up. He did try calling back but I had since grown very tired of all his yelling and condescension and therefore blocked his calls. I have since not heard from him. We did go to the hardware store and bought a board to replace the one he put in, which cost $17. That is a difference of $133, perhaps he will say that is the cost of labor to shove a board in a hole in a door, or maybe gas for the trip where he did 2 other businesses that were robbed at the same time. We got the glass replaced by someone else the same day for $180. A difference of $70, the explanation for that is a mystery. I believe this guy to be a crook who is trying to take advantage of people who had just been robbed and who may not know any better. Perhaps he thinks that because the people in the strip mall are not white that we are too stupid to understand that the police will have nothing to do with this matter and trying to bully people into paying ridiculous fees is extortion. I have since called the police dept and spoken to the officer who was on the scene of the robbery and told him the story which he said he would pass onto the Lt. who will hopefully take this guy off the list of contractors the police call when something like this happens. Needed a last minute window screen fix. I was having an open house the following day and I had found a screen that was torn and need of replacement ASAP. I called and was told if I bring the screen they could have it done quickly. I showed up and right away I was greeted and they started measuring the screen. While they were measuring, I went into the office and by that time the tech gave the measurements to the advisor. I had a quote to repair almost immediately. Said they would have it done in 10 min. My wife scored a very nice hand-carved Asian 7-piece tea table for $100 off Craigslist. The table sells for $998 online so I was pretty impressed. However, the intricately carved top is normally covered/protected by a piece of glass. I flipped the table over onto a sheet of cardboard and traced the outline. I cut out the pattern and began searching for a glass shop close to my office in Riverside to drop it off at. Fred's Glass and Mirror came up in my search and they were an older, established full service company and open 7 days a week. Impressive! I called them and made sure they could cut and finish the edge of an oval table top and was assured they could. I drove over to drop off my template. As I was doing so I noticed that the overall symmetry of my template was lacking and it looked a bit jagged along the edges. In Fred's lobby I noticed all the signs they have posted over the years addressing and preemptively clarifying many customer "issues" that have probably came up in the past. One of the signs said they will custom-cut the sheet of glass EXACTLY to YOUR pattern. I was a bit worried they might kick my pattern back for it being so rough on the edges and unsymmetrical. They didn't. The next day they called and told me my order was ready. I picked it up and paid for it noticing it wasn't very symmetrical - just like my pattern. I got it home and set it on the table. My wife immediately noticed it fit terribly. I thought, great, I did a lousy job on the pattern and Fred's cut it to my flawed pattern. Then, I thought, there are 4 ways this glass can be set on the table! So, I began flipping and reversing the sheet of glass on the table and BAM! It lined up perfectly when oriented properly. Thank goodness Fred's didn't linearize or round the irregular shape of my pattern. The table is handmade and actually has the variances I thought were from my sloppy tracing job. So, in closing, Fred's does exactly what they say they will quickly and efficiently - as long as you give them what you need to provide. Good job Fred's Glass and Mirror. --oh, not the cheapest place you might find but they are highly qualified and you get what you pay for...at least I did! read more
