Fred's is a unique concept, it's so good to see small business buffets. Our friends raved about this place so we were excited to try. It's got a country decor, the place was packed, we waited for a while to be seated. The pricing is fair. The service was good, buffet service doesn't require too much. The food is just okay. If you know about true soul food and know how to season your food or cook well, it's just okay. It's not bad by any means, but it's just not delicious, it's not flavorful. We came before and it was amazing. It was just okay today. If you like the fried chicken breast you will be in luck but if you like the leg, they barely make any. People were like vultures picking the very few legs they put out. The mac was old and dried out. The sweet potato casserole never did get refilled. They hide the to-go lids until they inspect your dish. The tables are wiped off but they don't wipe the seats, leaving you to sit on crumbs. For the high price, I think I'll pass. I miss good country cooking and this was it. I ended up just eating veggies minus chicken pot but husband loved the fired fish and trout and ribs. The staff has that southern charm that keeps you smilin' and your drinks full. I get the 1-trip blue plate for breakfast piled high with biscuits & gravy, bacon, grits, tomatoes & homestyle potatoes; topped off with a side of peach cobbler. We had the dinner buffet. Fried chicken, creole shrimp, and pot roast were the main meal offerings tonight. Sides included mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, fried okra, corn casserole, corn bread, sweet rolls, cheese biscuits, mac & cheese,rutabaga, fried fish... desserts included fresh strawberry shortcake, bread pudding, banana pudding, pecan pie, apple pie, Italian wedding cake, brownie sundae, cobbler, assorted ice creams... Everything was SO GOOD!! Hot food was hot, in huge pots that were refilled quickly as they were eaten. Fried chicken was tender, juicy and flavorful. The food was just really great. This place is literally everything comfort food, southern food!! Great host and the hostess was even friendlier her name was Christina. My family and I went for lunch. The food is fresh, it was good and there was definitely a variety. Everything from Fried Chicken to Pulled Pork, Sweet Potato Casserole to Mash Potatoes and Gravy, Collard Greens to Fried Squash. The list really can go on. There's even a variety of cold salads and pasta. This is buffet style but they do keep it clean from what I saw even the area around the buffet. read more

I have mixed experiences here. The food is wonderful so it is always busy. And I do mean ALWAYS! The last time I went, the electricity shut off so they weren't able to take card payments. They told everyone to either pay in cash or wait in there for the electricity to come back on. It had already been an hour with no lights by that point. Hasn't been easy to find a good place that fits the bill in Central Florida, until we discovered Freds while visiting our kids. We now have a go to that offers a large selection of fresh vegetables, southern fried chicken, Georgia sweet tea, and if you have room, some really good desserts to choose from. Fred's is always a favorite. I haven't been here in a while and all I can say is that you need to come check it out. You won't regret it at all. Although the prices have gone up, they're still fairly affordable. I enjoyed every bit of the food and definitely will be back in the near future. I certainly can't eat as much as I used to, but was able to make a small dent. Our server was great and staff and management were all very accommodating. The environment is laid back and great for families, friends, and anyone else looking for a variety of food options. The ribs were my favorite food item tonight. I've been eyeing this place for such a long time, came prepared by reading all the recent reviews by yelpers and called the restaurant to get the 411 on what times/days to visit this place. The restaurant is located in Riverview, this is the 4th location in Florida. The very first Fred's Market is in Plant City. There's plenty of parking available in the front and side of the restaurant. Seating inside consist of tables and booths. Staff were super sweet and courteous, over server was so nice. I wish i remembered her name. First of all, there was so much food. Salad bar, hot bar and dessert bar. Salad bar was amazing, very fresh, loved the make-it-yourself concept. Hot bar had all the main components of a Southern restaurant.. fried chicken, catfish, ribs, rainbow trout, collard greens, black-eyed peas, chicken pot pie, corn casserole, fried green tomatoes, Mac n cheese, cheddar biscuits, sweet potato casserole and much much more. So yes, there was a lot of main entrees but nothing grabbed my attention. Fried chicken was crispy but lacked seasoning (my friend thinks my taste buds must be burned off from all the spicy Indian food I eat lol) and ribs were so salty. For dessert.. there was pecan pie, peach cobbler, brownie, bread pudding, strawberry shortcake, banana pudding and 5 different kinds of ice cream. I opted for the classic brownie-a-la-mode. I even wrote a review on Yelp given it a 10 out of 10 rating. Sadly, like everything else in this country it has gone to s**t. Sorry for my not so dignified terminology. How sad, something that was so good a couple years ago is just so bad today. Even the fried chicken I RAVED about in my initial review is now soggy and lacking in taste. The food is so good at this buffet, it's hard to stop eating even after you think you're already full. My favorite items here are the fried chicken, ribs, apple pie. Most of the items are the same for dinner and lunch except for ribs (only for dinner), and pot roast and lasagna they have only for lunch. Plenty of food options on the main buffet table, there's also a salad bar area. They dessert station has someone serving you, otherwise the rest of the buffett and salad bar is self serve. You must wash your hands at the large sink before being seated. They have plastic gloves to use at the start of the buffet line, which I've noticed is used way more often with the lunchtime crowd and barely used for the dinner crowd. Payment is at the front register after you get the check from the waitress at the end of the meal. This caused some confusion the first time we came because the waitress wouldn't get the credit card that we put down on the table, finally we told here we were ready to pay and she said we have to go to front to pay on the way out. read more

The best way I would describe Fred's is, it's a very good deal. I've only been there for breakfast but I'm not a huge buffet guy and yes the food at other breakfast spots might be a bit tastier and of course made to order. But it's breakfast. And it's all you can eat for less than $20'! You can't beat that. The place is big, clean and the staff is nice. Overall I enjoyed going there. If your hungry and have a big group you want to take out to brunch, it's a great spot. read more

Pot roast was delicious and so tender (not every day since daily special). Good mashed potato and gravy. Loved the corn casserole and sweet potato casserole. Fresh salad. I would skip on chicken and dumplings- it was a bit too salty. The mac and cheese was a bit dry - it was ok. The meatloaf was ok but Paula Deen's restaurant was better. The best strawberry shortcake (signature) - the strawberries are from plant city and so delicious and fresh. The second best dessert is the red velvet cake. Had no room for banana pudding which I'm sure it would be good. Great waiter and good service. I loved it so much - went there three times and it was good every time.
