I loved this restaurant!! It was clean especially the bathrooms. They're sweet tea was sweet but not over done just perfect. They're fried chicken is like heaven!!The mashed potatoes, grits, green beans, sweet roll, and gravy are amazing too!! They also have a dessert bar with lots of yummy sweets I enjoyed the rainbow sorbet and chocolate and brownie!! I recommend this restaurant for a good dinner because it's not one of those gross buffets it's very organized and clean!!!!!! read more

Bad, no taste.Had one piece fried chicken, tasteless and all skin , one spoon tasteless green beans, one spoon mashed potatoes and a coke $13 plus change. Not worth it. Would never go back to this place. read more

We love the comfort food here! It's the best fried chicken and sweet tea EVER. The only reason for the 4 stars instead of 5, is because it's always hot in there and the service is spotty when trying to get a drink refill. Sometimes I'll stop in for to-go dinners on my way home from work. Prices are good. read more

Ate here last night for the first time. Excellent food! The food is so fresh and the buffet is so clean! I'm usually not one to go for buffers but it was so fresh and tasty. Even the fried chicken was delicious (let's face it.. Most fried chicken on buffets are an avoided item that's dried out) but not this place! Tried the fried chicken, BBQ wing, fried green tomato, mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, roasted green beans, corn casserole, roll, side salad and banana pudding for dessert. This place is better than expected. The service was really nice, the place is clean, and the food is excellent. I was pleasantly surprised that they have such an exceptional salad bar alongside everything else they offer. Not as thrilled with the mac and cheese as everyone else seems to be (no sauce, it's just noodles and melted cheese - not bad but not amazing), but I highly recommend the pulled pork and the corn casserole. MUST GO! They have a really delicious, authentic southern buffet for breakfast lunch and dinner. This is what Cracker Barrel wishes it was. Whenever we have guests visiting, a brunch at Fred's is mandatory. They have all-you-can-eat options or a single plate (blue plate) if you have enough will power to only go up for one trip to the buffet. Everything is so fresh and delicious tasting. They have everything you would expect for breakfast, plus tons of southern favorites like cheese grits, tomato gravy, fried catfish, peach cobbler, etc. Two large buffets that are constantly replenished. This place is always busy/popular, but you never have to wait too long because the buffet moves quickly. I've been there before they opened on the weekends and there is a line already formed waiting for them to open - if that tells you anything. It's extremely family and child friendly so feel free to bring the little ones because you won't be disturbing anyone and under 3 eats free. read more

Decided to try a new place for breakfast. After reading most of the reviews I thought the food was going to be phenomenal. Boy was I wrong. The food had no flavor. The eggs tasted like substitute eggs. It was mushy and disgusting..... My husband eats anything so for him to complain you know it had to be bad. I have to say the food is very good here and the service is good, but when I was there recently, I asked about their Thanksgiving Day buffet as my other half and I are new to Florida and don't have family here so we wanted to make reservations to come here for the Thanksgiving Buffet. We were told that they do NOT make reservations for parties less than 8 and if we were interested in coming on Thanksgiving we would have to wait in line if we were a party of less than 8. Any place I have ever attended a holiday buffet took reservations for any party size. For this reason alone, I will not be eating there again any time too soon. Today was my first trip to Fred's Market. Other times I have gone by they have been very busy. Now I see why. I tried the buffet to get a sampling of items they make. Everything I tried was very good. It is unusual to be able to say that about a buffet. Nothing was hit or miss. Food brought out was hot, well cooked, and not very greasy at all. The fried chicken was excellent. Catfish was breaded perfectly and crispy outside and perfectly done inside. The same is true for the fried green tomatoes. Macaroni & cheese tasted home-made and came out hot and fresh too. All of the options for dessert were great! I settled on bread pudding. The flavor of which reminded me of pralines. It wasn't the bread pudding I was used to having traditionally, but it was very good. The salad bar was clean and offered many healthy options to those who are trying to make healthier choices. The staff was very friendly and attentive. Everyone I saw working there was very professional and from what I could see had excellent food handling skills. They were very helpful with the menu items as well as questions about the food from the buffet. I will definitely be back! read more

The staff was nice but they can be super busy at times so the wait can be long for refills. The food was hit or miss at times and I have went there a lot. Now the miss is just the the chicken can be dry both bone in and fingers and so will the meatloaf. Other than that the food can't be beat. read more

Went to Fred's for the first time had a bad experience but will say they have really good food and the waitress that we had was outstanding and very caring she kept checking on me with the situation and even got one of the team leaders that day the food was good for what I was able to try I would go back again. The manager is an awesome person she has a wonderful attitude and if at any time you have any problems or complaints she is a good person to turn to with them. My family has eaten here several times since moving to the area from Kentucky/Tennessee. This is the best (and so far, only) place we have been able to find true Southern/soul food (besides Cracker Barrel). The prices are reasonable - we always get the buffet so we can pick and choose what we want. My only con is that the green beans seemed right out of the can (Allen's KY Wonders, no doubt). Other than that, the food was great - there is a huge crowd each time I have been, which speaks for itself! read more

I've lived in actual southern states and have eaten at a number of southern food restaurants, and this is by far the worst. Parking lot is partially mud, restrooms reek, and the food has almost no taste or seasoning and is barely warm. I see all these great reviews and wonder if they have been to any real southern food restaurants, Fried chicken was OK with a little taste, but not so for any of the other sparse selection. Fred's used to be a family favorite because everyone from toddlers to great grandpa could get what they wanted but this is no longer the case. Took the whole family last night to find that the menu had been changed. They no longer offer a kid's menu separate from the buffet so good luck feeding younger pickier eaters since they did not add anything from the kid's menu to the buffet bar. My son pretty much ended up eating rolls and orange slices from the salad bar since neither chicken tenders or hamburgers were available. It just seemed odd especially as the restaurant is billed as a family place. Even having hot dogs would have been great and not cost them too much. The pricing has changed so that you can pay $9.99 for one trip to the buffet bar or $11.99 for one trip to salad bar, buffet and dessert bars or $13.99 for regular buffet dining with multiple trips. I have to admit that I do understand what they might be trying to do with limiting of trips for the lower price options but this didn't work for our family. First, we don't enjoy piling one plate high with a multitude of foods that we may or may not enjoy. Our view towards a buffet is that you are not paying to overstuff yourself but instead paying to taste a variety of foods that you wouldn't get with a single plate order. I realize not everyone shares that view but variety is the selling point of a buffet. I took two pieces of catfish last night then realized that it was cold and soggy so it didn't get eaten and I couldn't go back for the fresh batch. Macaroni was all gone on my husband's trip, so he missed out unless he wanted to stand up there until a new tray came out. My father in law was paying for the meal so out of respect we all ordered the $11.99 option as he did, but honestly it was a much less enjoyable experience all around and we will not return with this new format. The really sad thing to me was that my mother in law, who hates to waste food then asked if we could take our one plate leftovers home in a box only to be told by the waitress that sure we could but they would have to weigh the box and sell it to us by the pound. It just seems incredibly wasteful to take food that is unservable to others and throw it in the garbage rather than give doggie bags. Not like we could go back and get more to take home, this was just from our one trip, it just seemed to make no sense. Anyway the food is the same but the experience left a bad taste in our mouths and we will find a new family restaurant. There was an upside though, there was not the usual long wait to be seated and we figured out why really quickly. read more
