That''s my stepdad in the center.

THANKSGIVING AT FREDS I had TG with my Mom, stepdad, my kids and wife here. There was a special flat price menu. Which of course included Turkey which I had. These days you can only have one protein selection. They have ham and fish , but I remember a few years ago it was all you can eat mix and match sort of dining. Sign of the times I guess. Inflation etc, not to mention the outrageous rent this establishment must pay for their upper west side location. Service was great, food was great. Ambiance was cozy. Old brick walls, pictures of dogs on the walls. It was fine really fine.

Good local place. Enjoyed our meals. Has nice kids menu. Great cheeseburgers and cheese steaks. Like atmosphere of customers dog pictures on wall. Good service.

Always wanted to check out this place and glad I did today. Beautiful day out in NY there was no wait and we chose to sit outside. Hostess was great and welcoming even offered a menu and explained the menu and all the deals they have. I love the whole theme of doggies, inside it's like with framed photos of all dogs, I'm guessing guests of the bar or neighborhood. My friend got the salmon burger with home made tartar which we enjoyed very much. You get the option or a side salad or fries. I stayed with 2 appetizers the Mexican street corn and chicken quesadillas which were both perfect in size and kept me full for the afternoon. Really loved the vibe here and the staff was very nice and the mega plus for all the pups were saw as we ate our lunch.

Five stars to some stellar bloody marys, the outstanding mac n cheese, the friendly but down-to-earth service and the dog photos that decorate literally every open space on all the walls. It was a cute, not too busy option on the UWS for brunch. While I wasn't the biggest fan of the Cobb salad I got, the vibes and the rest of the food we got was enough to still enthusiastically recommend this place for anyone who happens to be in the neighborhood.

Such a fun night. Blues band delta vibes. Affordable food and decent table wine. The staff was welcoming and attentive. Highly recommend a night out here!

Fred's is one of my favorite spots on Upper West side. It's your low key local bar with fantastic drinks, love their sangria and also has some of the yummiest food that you can enjoy on the bar side of dining side. The restaurant has floor to ceiling photos of dogs bringing so much charm to it. The Mac and cheese is hands down the best I have ever had. You can't go wrong with the classic but I tend to order the Buffalo mac and cheese, incredible! The burger is always amazing and the staff is always friendly and helpful .

    Cinnamon Raisin French Toast

Local Upper West Side brunch spot with good food and charming character. I ordered the Cinnamon Raisin French Toast ($19), which was very tasty. The cinnamon raisin bread was high quality, unique, and not overly sweet even with the toppings. Just a couple minor points for improvement: it was very slightly burned at certain points (but looked a bit more burned than it really was because of the cinnamon), the cinnamon could have been spread out a bit more evenly, and it could have been slightly fluffier. I also tried the Omelette ($19), which was also very good. The egg was cooked the perfect amount, and there was a decent amount of ham, bacon, and cheddar in there (the toppings we chose). There were a couple small areas that were a bit saltier than others though. The place has a distinctly homey atmosphere with dark wooden furniture, and most notably, has a whole bunch of cute dog pics along the walls that were submitted by customers (and maybe employees). One of these dogs is actually the namesake of the restaurant. This collage of dog photos gives the restaurant a unique charming character. There is a pretty large indoor seating area with some outdoor tables as well. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. The service speed was pretty quick. Overall, if you are in the Upper West Side and looking for a nice neighborhood brunch spot, then Fred's would be a very good choice for you - bonus points if you are a fan of dogs.

    Fred's Neighborhood Nachos

Really fun atmosphere for a Saturday dinner celebration with family, including 3 little children and six adults. Tasty tavern food. The nachos were kicked up with good jalapeños and lots of toppings. Kids loved the grilled cheeses and buttered pasta and all the dog photos. My cheesesteak and the salmon burger were good sandwiches. Service very good, especially getting drinks and kiddo food out fast. Hot brownie with whipped cream was the perfect Birthday Treat! Lots of patrons inside and out. Go Fred's! We will be back!

Fred's Classic Mac & Cheese w/ Seasonal Vegetables

Mac & Cheese w/ Seasonal Vegetables: The seasonal vegetables today were squash, carrots, and broccoli. This was a pretty good mac & cheese, but not the best, and not worth the $20 price tag.

Fred's is a reliable neighborhood spot where the food and service are consistent. A fun bar to sit at and chat and get to know your neighbors. I prefer brunch here over dinner mostly because I love their Huevos Rancheros. The beau ordered the Cobb which was chock full of protein and could have come in a bigger bowl given all that was in it. This casual spot is highly recommended if you're in the area.

The bistro itself is very nicely lit. I almost felt like I was in a movie. I had the Turkish eggs and a side of Bourbon glazed bacon. The chili-drizzled poached eggs sat on a bed of yogurt nestled against triangles of thin flatbread. Very hearty and filling for someone who was on their feet all day. The bacon was such a treat. I was afraid they would be soggy from the glaze or a little too sweet but it was the absolute perfect balance of both. My friend tried out the chicken and waffles and I was almost jealous that I hadn't ordered that. After being given a piece to try, I can confidently say that the Belgian waffle had the nicest crispy exterior and a beautifully fluffy inside. The chicken was such a wonderful savory pairing to the not too sweet waffle. The iced coffee was a nice side pairing. The pumpkin spice flavor was the perfect amount of sweet without being overpowering. I will be returning soon!

Think vintage wallpaper, little knick-knacks, and warm lighting. It's got character. I ordered the market salad with mixed greens, honeycrisp apples, goat cheese, candied pecans, and sherry vinaigrette. It was a hearty portion - super fresh and flavorful, and honestly more than I could finish (not a complaint!). I also ordered a Diet Pepsi with grenadine; they don't carry Diet Coke, which I almost docked a point for, but the mix was unexpectedly delicious. Highly recommend it. My date ordered the hanger steak and said it was absolutely amazing. Only hiccup: his first glass of wine he got came out hot... like, microwave-level warm. Fortunately, the server brought a new (cold) one and the rest of the meal was smooth sailing. Service was friendly, the vibe was homey and relaxed, and the food was solid across the board. Would definitely come back, especially for that salad and another round of grenadine magic.

It was our first time eating at a Friedman's location. It had a nice diner feel to it, with a mix of booths and tables. The brunch menu has a variety of breakfast items, salads, sandwiches and burgers, starters, and entrees (fish tacos, grain bowl, fried chicken). I like that several of the items are naturally gluten free, and some can be made gluten free by request. We decided to go with three breakfast items from the brunch menu: I got the shakshuka, my sister got the Nova Benny, and we got the lemon ricotta pancakes to share. All 3 dishes were great. The shashuka came with grilled ciabatta, perfect for dipping into the sunny side eggs and tomato sauce. My sister loved that the poached eggs and smoked salmon of the Nova Benny came on top of a crispy potato latke. The pancakes were fluffy and the lemon ricotta and lemon zest elevated their flavor. Our server was friendly and attentive, and he asked us if we had any allergies when he took our order. He came by several times to check on us and refill water. I would return to Friedman's when I'm in the Herald Square area, or check out one of their other locations in the city.

We also wanted to try a classic pastrami on rye--but without committing to the long lines at Katz's Delicatessen. Sarge's ended up being the perfect alternative, just a quick five-minute walk from our hotel. We arrived around 5:00 pm on a Sunday and were seated right away, which already felt like a win. The meal started with coleslaw and both a half sour and full sour pickle--such a classic deli touch, and a great way to kick things off. I ordered the half sandwich with matzah ball soup, and the portion sizes were no joke. The soup alone could have been a full meal: a huge bowl with an equally massive matzah ball. The broth was warm and soothing, and the matzah ball was incredibly light with a perfect texture. The half pastrami on rye was just as impressive. Even "half" was stacked high with flavorful, tender pastrami. Adding a bit of mustard from the table brought everything together--it was simple, classic, and exactly what I was hoping for. Not only was it one of the more reasonably priced meals of the trip, but it was also genuinely satisfying.
