My wife and I have been steady customers of Freeway for as long as they have been in existence. So after long anticipation we were happy to hear the opening of the midtown restaurant. With lots of model cars on display.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We ordered the Eastside onion rings as an appetizer. My wife ordered a vegetable plate with a tossed salad, mashed potatoes, brown beans, okra and corn I ordered the Broasted chicken with side salad, mashed potatoes and corn. The onion rings came out piled high on a large platter They were cooked perfectly. My wife said her vegetables had a good flavor, but were cold. My broasted chicken was very good. A local diner with multiple locations opened a new place in old digs. We visited this location on the first day of business. [[HIGHLIGHT]]A clean version of the older sisters it's a classed up version of the kitschy chain.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food is classic diner style food. This place is delicious! My husband ordered the Oklahoma omelet +jalapeños with biscuits and gravy. I tried the sampler with the pancakes. The biscuits are perfect, the pancakes tasted so good, and my husband said it was the best omelet he ever had. We tried out the newest location of Freeway Cafe close to our home for brunch last weekend. We came in and were told to seat ourselves. We did so in a sparsely populated area in the back. I wasn't sure if I wanted breakfast or lunch but thankfully was there when both were being served since I decided on lunch. The food was decent, the service good and pretty much what you expect from a diner. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I lost my appetite when a group of older gentlemen came in, sat right behind me and began a loud political conversation.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I wrapped up my remainders and left quickly. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance became grossly political and overly loud which ruined the taste in my mouth.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]This has nothing to do with the waitstaff but I do feel that the cafe itself does attract people of this type, which does make me less inclined to dine there.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]If they were seating people, I doubt they would have placed these two tables immediately next to one another. New Freeway Cafe on 31st where Goldies used to be. Went for a late lunch (2:30) on a Monday. Plenty of parking. Greeted immediately and allowed to pick our seat (by the window, booth). [[HIGHLIGHT]]Nicely decorated like the other Freeways.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Friendly wait staff. Menu is like the other Freeway's (breakfast all day). What surprised me is the bar menu with cocktails and reasonably priced beers. No wines on the menu, but since our favorite brunch spot (MK Bistro) recently closed, this will be a place to get a Mimosa with breakfast/brunch. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Elvis music continuously playing in the background (not too loud).[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I had the Veggie platter (4 vegetables and a tasty roll) for $9.99. Brown beans, okra, green beans, cole slaw all very good. Previous reviewer reported sitting in the back room and then having to put up with a group conversing loudly about political issues. We sat up front by the windows and the two A/C contractors in the booth behind us talked loudly until they left about the jobs they were on, etc. Thankfully no politics. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Three large TVs over the bar area, all tuned to Fox.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] If they'd been loud enough to hear, we'd have left. [[HIGHLIGHT]]All in all, a pleasant experience after I tuned out the guys behind us.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] About the only other diner we visit (Crescent Cafe) in Prattville/Sand Springs has similar issues. I waited for month for Freeway cafe to come to this location. My second visit, I went in for breakfast and asked to substitute a single pancake for toast. My server informed me that it was going to be $2 extra. I think that is ridiculous and have decided I will take my business elsewhere. There should be no difference beta piece of toast and a pancake, it's made with the same ingredients So long Freeway Cafe! read more
