Betty is always kind and helpful on the phone. Tim (the owner) and his son provided a fair quote for a heat pump and installed it last summer. Unfortunately, after it was installed, it stopped working approximately six different times and follow-up visits were needed. Water dripped onto our ceiling from the drain pan, and I had to have it professionally repaired. They finally got the system working. Did I mention this happened in the middle of the summer with a newborn? I decided to let the cost of the ceiling repair go, as I felt bad for them working on the system in the heat. In the fall, we decided to use another local HVAC company moving forward. They pointed out that Krope and Son hadn't installed the correct filter size, and had instead jammed an incorrect size into the new system. Now, one year later, it's been discovered that the drain pan was actually broken and siliconed together. I called Tim to ask why they did it this way, and he completely lost his temper, spoke down to me, and used the time to badmouth his competitor. Boy, am I glad I never filled out the sheets he had asking for recommendations to neighbors and friends. Guess they've lost our business for good.

Fast forward three weeks, and the system completely shut down again. When they returned, instead of properly diagnosing the issue, they immediately pushed us to buy a whole new unit. They also wanted to cut into the drywall and made it clear that any damage caused wouldn't be their responsibility -- even though the setup had worked perfectly for over 25 years. Thankfully, we got a second opinion. That technician immediately noticed that the previous tech had left multiple components disconnected and hadn't even reassembled the system properly. The second company was able to fix the issue quickly and at a fraction of the cost -- no drywall cutting, no upsell, just competent service. This was a completely unprofessional and disappointing experience. I would not recommend this company to anyone looking for honest, reliable HVAC work.

He was professional and arrived on time. However, when I got a quote to install a Nest thermostat it was $200 for maybe 20 minutes of work. I got a quote (attached) for Aprilaire 500 bypass Humidifier installed to replace an existing one that's failing and I was told the unit is worth $600 and it would be $1170.00 to install (which included a 5% discount if I bought a service agreement with them). I said it seemed a little high so I got more quotes. So far two reputable places quoted $550 and $425 installed and the unit is $230 at most online. Update: so my Aprilaire 500 humidifier was installed by Green Air Care and everything was great with them (see review). They even fixed a couple quirks with my system. Per Brian's Heating & A/C's request I did call Brian's to see why their quotes were so high but they were unavailable so I asked for an email response. If their response email makes sense this may be updated but $600-900 an hour for labor seems really high to me. As with all large projects I'd recommend getting multiple quotes if time allows but the quotes I received from this business were a little outrageous in my opinion.

Specific had come out to my home before, a few years ago, and did a great job fixing the central air unit, but I couldn't remember the name of the company and I couldn't find the receipt. So I called another place. Huge mistake. They came out and said the whole thing was no good and couldn't be fixed, then they sent a salesman out, who quoted me $7,700 for a new one. Well, I'm old but I'm not stupid. I sent him on his way and searched frantically for the old receipt from Specific Heating and Air Conditioning. I found it and called immediately. Andy came out right away, looked at the unit and said, "Yeah, I think I should be able to fix it," which he did in a very short amount of time. Perfectly. I am now sitting in my living room with nice cold air blowing on me and I am a very happy old girl, all because of this awesome repairman and Specific.
