Last week my furnace died. It had 18 solid years, I knew this day would come eventually. Luckily last week was in 40s. I've never gone through this before. I Google heating and cooling places by me and Dykstra came right up with 4.5 stars. I made the call. Within 2 hours Zack shows up. Very kind and professional!! 6 stars for Zack - he diagnosed the issue right away and explained everything. I'm only giving 4 stars overall because I couldn't get the unit installed same day or even next day. Wednesday Ray and Victor installed the new unit. Nice guys. Thursday I get home and its freezing in my house. I notice that the thermostat reads 64 but set to 70. I call Zack, my saving grace!! He calls the office and they send Casey (sp?). Casey showed up that afternoon and found that a wire had shorted. Quick fix and he was on his way. I do recommend Dykstra. There is some confusion with the answering service and a merge going on, but I was able to talk to someone that knew what was going on. read more

I would give zero stars but that is not an option. Dykstra sold to precision and they are not an honest company. My a/c went out and their service tech came to my house. After looking at the unit, Caleb, the service tech, told me I need to replace the whole system abd it would be 28k for a new furnace and a/c. Luckily I called for a second estimate. M & B inspected the unit and replaced the controller. The parts and labor were $350.00. If precision gives you an estimate, get a second opinion. I've been working with dykstra since 2021 and had historically excellent service until it was sold to Precision. The techs that came out were honest, helpful, and trustworthy. With the sale of the business to Precision I've seen a noticeable change in service and professionalism. I've had the tech no-show / no-call to service appointment, the company cancel appointments at the last minute and communicate no availability for 3 weeks, and I've also been told I needed a new outside unit where a second opinion found it to be in great condition. You cannot trust or depend on this firm to show up and provide you with honest services. read more

Where do I even begin. Last week Thursday June 1 a tech was supposed to come out to my moms house and do her air betwern 8-12. Nobody showed and you all had the audacity to tell her 5pm you were under a storm warning and coulsnt work. 1 there was no warning in Chicago for a storm so myb71 year old mom on oxygen had to sit in s 92 degree house. We were told someone would be ouy on friday June 2. A tech named Bill came who was ignorant, disrespectful and incompetent. He talked abck and disrespected my mom. When hmhe turned on the fuse box he blew soemthing that blew our soundsystem and nownit wont work. Literally he turned all the power in the house off. He did another fuse and sparks came and it smelled like smoke. He told mybmom hes just a technician to which my mom told him shes the homeowner. He got disrespectful to where i stepped in and said this isnt what my mjther needs ribow because her husband my dad juat passed away suddenly. Im not sure what type of technicians you hire but they are incompetent and disrespectful. And if he broke and blew our soundsystem you will be hearing from my lawyer with a bill to pay for the fixing of it. There was no reason for him to pull the fuse to turn the entire power off in our house when the ac fuse was cleary labeled. He made the comment as well that when yiur techs csme and installed the ac in january they wired it wrong. How the hell do you have techs and rhey dont know how to do electrical. I was really surprised by the service provided by this company. I had a problem with my boiler and a repair tech came out on a Sat night after 5 pm and basically could not figure the problem out so instead of doing a further investigation he ordered a part and after waiting 6 days for it only to find out it was the wrong part and then my home warranty service called out a local HVAC repair service and this guy was prompt and read the manual and actually fixed the problem which was a simple fix and clearly stated in the manual. read more

The Service Department is the worst ever. Getting a live person on the phone to schedule an appointment is time consuming and multiple phone calls need to be made before anyone returns a call. The company reminds you to get your equipment serviced each year, but accomplishing this is next to impossible. When I finally did get a call back, I was unavailable to take the call. Called back literally 60 seconds later, no answer. Placed back into voice mail for round four. I suggest using ANYONE ELSE for service. read more

Somehow this review got trapped under a Nicor listing, but no... Dykstra did a great job diagnosing and servicing our AC problem. The level of customer service they deliver exceeded my expectations. We worked with Dykstra through Home Warranty of America, a home warranty company that dispatches a repair service on your behalf. It took almost 4 weeks to get everything done, but I believe that most of the delay was because of HWA and NOT Dykstra. Every time Dykstra set our appointment, they showed up on time. It did take approximately one week before Dykstra could come out for the service call, but we weren't surprised since it was the time of year that everyone turned on the AC for the first time. The repair technician and sales contact were knowledgeable and professional. During the first visit, he was careful to provide exact figures but did provide some loose estimates so we could prepare for what we would pay out of pocket. I felt confident that Dykstra gave us the best option to fix the problem. We also got a heads up that we'll need an entirely new unit in the next few years, and he went the extra mile to tell us that the type of freon we're using won't be available in a few years as well. It was nice to have this extra information, but we weren't pressured into a total overhaul now. As with any repair service, they schedule to the best of their ability. However, if a service call early in the day takes longer than anticipated, I think it's reasonable that they could be running late. Sometimes you have to bite the bullet, buy a ton of box fans and realize that, once upon a time, NOBODY had central AC. The complaints on Yelp about customer service could not be any more inaccurate. If you're a reasonable, patient, person then you won't have any issues with Dykstra. read more

Heater was not working. Service guy came out replaced 1 part $250. The following weekend heater stopped working. Same guy came out he said it's the computer or the valve. He changes the valve, cost for valve $451 4-1/2 time the cost of a new valve, plus $110 for coming onsite total price $561. Valve part # vr8345m look it up online. Online price $100.00 Dykstra price $451.00 Check parts cost online before you have this company replace any parts because they are crooks and will up charge you. Furnace does not fire correctly ever since the valve was replace. I called another company to repair the furnace. Don't trust. Better yet Call someone else. 3-20-2019 Prices are not set by the warranty company. I spoke with the warranty company and they stated you make up the pricing. I had several repair companies come through & your company was the only one that charged so much for a part. I've been with this warranty company for 20 years. You take advantage of people by jacking up prices 41/2 times. I posted my message online so other are not over charged. Call someone else. Dykstra replace parts without fixing the problem so they could come back, they generate a new ticket with my warranty company and raised the price of the part to make more money. I have Nicor Home Solutions and Dykstra contracts with them to do preventative maintenance in my area of the Chicago suburbs. Dykstra has been doing tune ups on my A/C for several years now. My annual check up had been scheduled for awhile. I was offered a 4 hour window and took 8 am - 12 pm on a Friday. I figured I'd only have to miss a half day of work. My whole day was wasted waiting for them. I did not receive any calls to say they were on their way until 3:50 PM. They completely missed the window. I had to get all my updates by calling them instead of them calling me. They said the technician was stuck on the stop before mine for almost 4 hours and that he had to finish there first. It made sense that he had to finish at his previous stop first. But at what point do you stop making excuses and actually address the situation? Maybe send another technician? I realize I am not paying you, but Nicor is paying you on my behalf. They said they couldn't offer me anything because my account is through Nicor despite the fact that I didn't bring up the topic. I didn't need any added benefit because I was inconvenienced. What bothered me about that revelation is that I'm apparently a lesser customer because I don't go through you directly (even though we schedule directly with you now). I used to have another opinion of Dykstra, and now it's been ruined. The only upside is that their technician Jan is a super nice and informative guy. read more

I called to find out if someone could come out because my a/c was not cooling my hoose down and my ducts were rattling. The technician over the phone told me to simply wash off my filters and reinstall them. It worked like a charm and didn't cost me a thing. Thanks to Chris the technician who talked me through it. I was not very happy with their approach at all. Many systems today have R-22 Freon still in them. Dyksta claims to have very little of that product left. I knew I would have to pay a $94 service charge for them to come out, what I didn't know and was not explained was they could diagnose my problem (it needed a charge) they could not repair it telling me they were saving the R-22 for rooftop customers. So to get my system charged I had to again call another company. My second option was to apply the $94 to a new installation. They know if they had told me that up front, most likely I would have never chose them to come out. Bad Business! read more

However, I had some issues that were expressed prior to making payment and I was assured that the issues would be resolved. They weren't. Buyer beware! In an effort to purchase a furnace and AC unit from Dykstra, we entered into a contract that would have cost us $26,000! I must also mention this unit would never be owned by us. It would basically be leased. If we had terminated the contract early, we would owe at least $6,000 at that time or would be agreeing to dismantle the equipment and return it to Dykstra. According to the contract, we would agree that dismantling and returning the unit would be an easy job. At the time we met with the Dykstra representative, he also brought along a rep from Service 1st Premier who presented the contract to us. No other method of obtaining a furnace and AC unit was presented to us until we, at a later time, asked to be released from the contract. At that point we received paperwork in the mail, presenting an outright purchase. We feel this way of doing business targets us older folks, especially since cancellation is available in 5 days if you are younger than 65. You get 7 days if you are older than this. I know Dykstra has a great reputation, which is why we originally called them. Because of the lease-type agreement that was presented to us, we now don't have a very high opinion of them. read more

After contacting several other companies (many that said they didn't service the southside) and a few others who did but came out and still couldn't fix the issue, the reps from Dykstra came in and saved the day. Mark was very patient & knowledgeable and took time to really assess the situation and offer a possible solution. I can see a reasonable price increase for parts that they stock but this is extremely unreasonable. They call it flat rate pricing. I call it something else. lots of competition in this business. I bought a new home in Palos Heights 2 months ago and recently started using the furnaces when the weather changed. 2 of the furnaces came with some humidifiers on them, though they seemed a bit aged. This past week my wife and I have been waking up with terrible sore throats and cotton mouth (she's also 37 weeks pregnant), so I checked what our indoor humidity was; 16%. HOW?!?!? Went downstairs and realized that neither of my humidifiers were running at all and wasting valuable potential humidity space on my furnace. I called Dykstra since they were close by and Marsha was fantastic. She got one of their guys out to us 2 hours later with brand new humidifiers. Jim did the install on both units, and after some troubleshooting (previous units were improperly wired) was able to get both humidifiers up and running, and we can tell the difference in our house. I just now checked the humidity in the house again and it's already up to 37% and the sore throats are gone. The customer service, the professionalism, the punctuality (which is HUGE in my book as a prior service Marine and current firefighter), and the work done was beyond what I expected. Dykstra is my go to company for heating and air-conditioning. My air (26 years old) was going in and out and my friend recommended Dykstra. I called them on June 8th and on June 10th, Tom Zawadzki, the project manager came to my home to give me an estimate for a new air-conditioner and furnace. (I decided to change them both since the furnace was 23 years old). Tom was very knowledgeable and thoroughly looked at my air and furnace and gave me three options, Best Choice, Better Choice, and Good Choice. I informed him I had a couple of other estimates to get and he said fine to get back to him once I decided. I liked the fact that he didn't pressure me. I didn't get back to him until about the 24th of June. Tom informed me that they wouldn't be able to get to me until July 14th, I said okay, however, if anyone canceled to please move me up. Yes, someone canceled and he was able to move me up to July 9th. Eddie and Kevin, the two guys, Tom sent to install my air and furnace were absolutely fabulous. They arrived on time. They worked continuously taking only a lunch break. When they completed the installation, they explained what they did and installed the thermostat. Now, I can say my sweating days are over. Kudos to Dykstra, Tom Zawadzki, the project manager and Eddie and Kevin. Dykstra definitely made me feel like a valued customer. read more

I've never had such a terrible experience. Actually, that's not correct, because this is the second time that Dykstra has provided me with such disappointment (same thing happened with new furnace and I was without heat in a Chicago January). Due to shoddy workmanship during the installation of my new air conditioning unit less than one year ago, I was without air in 100 degree weather for four days. They had TERRIBLE customer service, and no respect for my time or situation for an issue that was caused by their installation of the product. When I called Saturday morning, they informed me that first thing Monday was the best they could do. In 100 degree weather they had NO ONE to come out to service a unit that THEY installed less than a year ago. They had NO concern for the fact that this issue shouldn't even be happening. Come Monday, they never showed, and when I called back they informed me that they tried my number and it was incorrect- they HAD MY number wrong in their system so they moved onto the next appointment. When I finally got in touch with them, they weren't concerned and were openly RUDE to me (even the owner)- it was astounding.......... Do NOT do business with this company, they have proven that they cannot install any HVAC unit properly, their customer service capabilities are less than sub-par, and their response time is garbage (even when the issue is their fault). read more

Called NICOR SOLUTIONS Sunday night no heat! They had trade winds come out Monday. My furnace wasn't igniting because there was a dead bird in my vent stack clogging it and activating the safety shutdown of the furnace. They removed the bird, replaced a damaged valve and tuned it up at no cost to me! Couldn't be happier! read more

This is the second time they had me waiting over 3-4 hours for a call back..Nicor will not reassign the claim to another company until they hear from the company assigned to service the customer. Two words Fred Costello. Fred was the "comfort specialist" as he puts it. Who came to show us the pricing on the units. He was able to give us a very informed description of what our house would need and what was the best price point to hit. Buying a furnace and air conditioner is not a small purchase. Fred knows this and there was no pressure to purchase our units from him. He was just happy to have answered our questions. We did go with Dykstra and called back that same night, Fred was able to get the furnace and air conditioner installed within 3 days. Mind you, it was the beginning of the summer and he was getting busy. Their installer was very professional and was able to finish the work within a couple of hours. They have a fantastic warrantee. Our 31 year old furnace went out a couple of days before Halloween. Although the temperatures were getting colder we wanted to take the time to get estimates. We contacted 3 different companies. We told each of the companies that we wanted estimates which included various furnaces with different efficiency ratings. Out of all the companies we contacted Dykstra was the only company that provided us with more than one furnace option. Dykstra the only company that provided a professional written estimate. I was impressed at that the written estimate included a total of 6 different units and provided the specs and prices for each unit in an easy to read but detailed side by side format. We were sold at that point but Dykstra went above and beyond when they called me back to say they moved up our install date because they knew we had 2 small children and were without heat. Phil in sales gave me a very competitive price. last week at 12.30 a/m, my ac unit made a very loud clanking sound that woke up myself and our neighbors. the next morning i called nicor services, but they could not send anyone for 3days. as the temp was to be 90%, i frantically called Dykstra and they accommodated in 2days, and fixed the problem. I usually do not write reviews. I believe it is necessary in this case. If I had to do it all over again, I would stay as far away from Dykstra as possible. In our opinion, Dykstra was not truthful in their dealings with us. Based on the information we now have, we never really needed a new air conditioner. We had the air conditioner installed a little over a year ago. It is still under warranty. Dkystra required $125.00 fee to diagnose the problem. This is true even though the unit is under warranty. I will never recommend this company to anyone. Please be on guard when using them. read more

Dykstra is a manipulating, deceitful and fradulent company. They were schedule d to come out on 2/19/19 to clean my furnace which is up in the attic. The imbicile turned the furnace off saying that my flue had rusted out and that i needed a new furnace. I asked him to to take pictures and send them to me. He claim he could not work his tablet. I know that was a bunch of hogwash. I called King heating out the next day and the HVAC guy told me that my flue was fine. I called into the office to report him and ask for a copy of those pictures. Supervisor Debbie said she would send them to me. Im still waiting. And to my surprise, i dawned on me that this is the same company that i called 6 or 7 years ago to clean the same furnace and the guy snipped the wires telling me i needed a new furnace. Son of a biscuit!!! Brooks heating came out the next day and informed me that the wires had been snipped and that my furnace was working fine. Again Dykstra pulled the same stunt.
