I'm livid, but will start with the good- the food is great. Treats are delicious (albeit a touch pricey, but the good really is good). Drinks are also good. The food will definitely bring you back. Unfortunately: 1. Service is super slow...don't expect to get your food right away. 2. They constantly forget items. I usually have to sit there and remind them of what I'm waiting for, even a simple coffee or tea. 3. Customer Service is hit and miss. Worst part - I blamed myself - this has happened before with a pick up order. So, I call over. Holy sht...this girl is something else. I call her on it because nobody is talking as I'm wishing for her to find the stupid ticket...called her on not placing the order initially and forgetting the food. SHE BLAMED IT ON THE KITCHEN AGAIN!! WTF!?! Be responsible! You should've checked the order! And should've placed it in the first place! So now we've lost food again - we paid for all the original order. She's like, "uh...we will give you the sandwich next time..and something else..." what is that?!?! Now she's just making me madder. I've been looking for a great croissant in the area, but so far no luck. I've been to both Carlsbad and Vista. This bakery states they sell a chocolate almond croissant. I've ordered this two times and so far I have not seen any chocolate. The almond croissant was OK, but nothing to rave about. Need improvement on the dough quality. We got them back quickly and proceeded to eat. The meat was over cooked on both, the hash browns were burnt. Even the egg was dry and overcooked. There was cheese too, burnt to a crisp. I am really hoping Groupon and Living Social buyers read Yelp reviews before dedicating their time and money to the French Bakery Cafe. This place really lives up to it's own expectations, of lack of urgency in any matter! I have experienced one good day here , which was approximately six months ago. I came to pick up a french onion soup and a dessert to go when I was sick. Today, my husband and I went in after running some errands nearby - it was around 10:30 in the morning. We didn't want breakfast and we weren't really ready for lunch, but their french onion soup with fresh melted cheese with a side salad was just what I was seeking on a rainy day (not to mention a place that wasn't fast pace was fine). Convenience and a craving... When we arrived the cafe had only two empty tables (so it was busy). A lady cut in line in front of us to complain about not getting a food item and we let her in because we knew this could be the case, as they are terribly slow on delivery of food (it really wasn't the ladies fault after all). A staff member was sitting at a table nearby eating (I've seen this before and believe staff should not be sitting on the floor when a place is this busy and there are customers in line - again no sense of urgency). When the young lady at the counter asked what we wanted, I asked for the French Onion Soup and she said they had it. However, when she went to the back, she was informed they did not have it today. (This is not the first time they have been out of something), but they have been out of basic items on their menu on a regular basis (part of the problem of offering a too extensive, un-committed menu perhaps). Due to the cafe not having the item we wanted, we decided to leave today! We just moved on with our day, as everyone who experiences a poor experience. With the series of hit and miss experiences over the past several years, we have just decided not to give them another chance going forward. On a final note, since we had to wait in line, we noticed the pastry case had condensation (more than what would be expected) and the thermometer inside was not working properly. You may want to check this out before purchasing a treat to make sure it is being refrigerated properly. You honestly do get the impression that no one cares how this business is run, as long as they get your dollars and quite honestly, I am surprised they have been able to remain in business this long! read more

While 26-27 bucks on a round cake make seem pretty expensive (and I agree), they are pretty good and nice about the customization of your cake. I usually come here for someone's birthday and its always been a good experience for me. While each cake (of the same kind) has always varied in taste, I've always found them to be enjoyable. I get the whipped cream frosting, with slivered almonds on the side, shaved chocolate and strawberries in the middle and top. The "cake" itself is fluffy and light. My last experience though, the strawberries were not of the best selection. Oh and don't wear your good clothes, you leave smelling like the place. This bakery is delicious! I went in without having placed an order hoping to get three dozen assorted baked goods for my sister's baby shower. The line was out the door, as it was a very busy Saturday morning. The girls behind the counter were making coffees and packing desserts very quickly, so we didn't have to wait long. I felt bad when I got to the front because I was ordering so much, and basically wanted one of everything. Our server, Destiny, was friendly and quick.
