I don't even know if my breakfast tasted good because I spent my entire break waiting for it and never took a bite. This bakery is delicious! I went in without having placed an order hoping to get three dozen assorted baked goods for my sister's baby shower. The line was out the door, as it was a very busy Saturday morning. The girls behind the counter were making coffees and packing desserts very quickly, so we didn't have to wait long. I felt bad when I got to the front because I was ordering so much, and basically wanted one of everything. Our server, Destiny, was friendly and quick. She even offered to put our box in the fridge while we ate breakfast there. Everything was delicious, and the pastries were a big hit at the party. My only regret was not getting more! read more

Went in today and everything looked old... like really old. The custard for the fruit tarts was cracked and deep yellow and had a grainy looking texture. It was obviously very much dried out. The fruit looked canned and old as well. The cream puffs had a peculiar look to them and some were kinda smushed. The inside of the cases was dirty, with large pieces of desserts past just laying around. They had cakes and other pastries that just didn't look too appetizing. I received pastry from here a few months ago as a gift. The puffs were good then, they did taste fresh. Been here a few times, and the food and service has always been good, a bit slow but the food was good. Today, went in and the service was incredibly slow. It took over 40 for the food to come out, it wasn't made to order and it frankly looked like they threw it together at the last minute. The hash browns were barely cooked and the fries were cold. The bun was dry and looked as though it had been on the shelf for a week. It was not fresh or anything we were used to here. If the food takes a long time to come out, at the very least is should come out correctly and appetizing. I sent both back and when I asked to speak to someone about it, the owner told me that I was "just being picky" and told me to get out that he didn't need my business. I didn't realize that wanting your food to be correct is being picky. I completely understand that service is slow and food comes out wrong sometimes, I don't believe asking for it to be fixed is so completely unreasonable that the owner would tell me to "go to McDonald's if I wanted my food correct and fast." It is unfortunate, because I recommend a lot of people to this restaurant in the past, but I would not again after today. I'm sure my not returned the few times a year I go or recommendations will not make or break his business, but I heavily recommend to stay away from this restaurant. read more

Not the place to order a cake from if you're looking for quality and taste. I placed an order for a cake with strawberries as the filling and I got about 70% frosting. The cake layers were very thin, uneven, dry and the filling was practically all cream/frosting (you can see hollow areas and very few strawberries). They had to make up for the unevenness by adding even more frosting all over which tasted just like cool whip from the freezer aisle. Also, the young boys behind the counter kept giggling as they were helping me making them look like they were up to something or just clueless on how to serve customers. There was one young lady with exceptional customer service skills though! Go somewhere else, you can see that this was a waste of money. I would suggest O'side bakery on Mission Ave.! read more

I have tried time, and time again, to attempt to give this restaurant/cafe a shot at being decent. The customer service is decent, when you are finally helped. There is one lady who is just a gem when working with the customers, so I am not just seeing the negative and I come from a background in customer service. There is a major lack of organization, and urgency when it comes to customer service. To me, something that is highly apparent is the lack of cleanliness, organization and overall functioning system. I just spent 20 minutes on hold for a to-go order, only to be hung up on, then called back and stated my frustration and asked for some sort of compensation for my wasted time; only to be answered that they were busy and one person was on break. Again, another malfunction of the business, busy time and having people take breaks, and often just not being properly staffed during peak times. In addition to the overall functioning, only having one register slows things down enormously and creates a major hold up. I was offered a free pastry, minimal to no apologies for the 20 minute hold and again, nothing like $5.00 off or anything of the sort. This is not the first time I have had issues with the staff, organization or getting orders right. I actually feel as though the only time I've had a decent experience is ordering a pastry to go (if they have it). When I have ordered food, it was alright, when it was correctly made. Like I said, I want to give this restaurant/cafe a better rating, but after multiple repeated attempts, and finally this experience I have to respond with the Eek! Methinks not review. My husband went here for the first & last time. We bought several items because they "looked" good. Our favorite REAL French bakery closest to us in Carlsbad closed and the other sister bakery is in Encinitas on Coast Hwy a bit far. The baguette is NOT a baguette it's like those white bread loafs from the super market that they sell by the checkout stands only thinner. Croissants flakey, but a weird after taste flavor I can't name. The Creme Brule the worst!!! Like a chunky weird pudding, nearly like scrambled eggs, yuck. The dark chocolate little balls covered in cocoa powder were good. We bought something else cannot remember what, but nothing was good but the dark chocolate balls. We will never go to the place again and take the chance of wasting more money. From now on we will make the drive to Encinitas. read more

FYI this "bakery" DOES NOT SELL BREAD. Very odd and disappointing. I've never been to a French Bakery that does not sell any bread.... in fact I saw bagged commercial bread for sandwiches. Just be aware when you eat here, there are items not baked in house. So strange. Seems they make cakes and cookies in house but French Bakeries are known for Baguettes and to not have them seems like false advertising, the owner needs to consider a name change and rebrand. read more

Me and my parents have historically been frequent satisfied customers. Sadly, something recently drastically changed at the bakery. We were surprised that most of what we purchased and brought home the other day was not up to their typical quality. Being a loyal customer I called to report this issue and offered to bring back what we purchased and was simply seeking a reasonable resolution. This is where we became former customers. I was shocked by the rudeness over the phone. A simple we are very sorry let us make it right with a reasonable resolution would have been much appreciated. The girl that claimed to be a manager said she was not allowed to give her name or anyone's name but would have her manager call me back. I waited for that call to come for 5 days and it never did. I called back and was treated rudely again with a refusal to give me the name of the manager. Any respectable business that cares about customer service has no issue providing the name of a manager because a manager should want customer feedback to identify areas for improvement. I'm so sad that what was my favorite local bakery has turned into a bakery that hires new people that provide very poor customer service and won't let you get to a manager if you experience a problem.No business is perfect but a good business handles a problem with a reasonable resolution and grace, not absolute rudeness. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY!!!! A 35 minute wait for two sandwiches and a salmon salad is UNACCEPTABLE!!!!! My mother used to rave about this place so my daughter and I decided to pick up lunch to go. We walked in at 12:18pm on a Friday afternoon and only two tables were filled with one person waiting for food at a table. While we were ordering, I was watching one of the 'pastry chefs' glaze a cake. She then put the cake (which was on a sheet pan) on top of a filled trash can then proceeded to place the cake in the refrigerator on a middle shelf. I should have just walked out then because if that is what they will do in front of customers, what the hell are they doing in the back? Our order was completed at 12:22:03pm as per our receipt. Since my daughter and I were hungry, we got a snack while we waited. She got a croissant. There was so much butter in it was dripping. Now, I love a butter croissant but that is disgusting. My chocolate mousse was really thick and was not light and fluffy as a mousse is supposed to be. At about 12:37pm, the other customer waiting for her food got up and asked if anyone even put her order in. About 3 minutes later, they finally brought out her food. At 12:45pm, I got up and asked when our order was going to come out. The girl told me that it was coming but that "salmon takes a while to cook here'. WTF!!!???!?!?!?!? It was a thin piece of fish that should not take 20 minutes to cook. FINALLY, I was handed my to-go order at 12:57pm. 35 MINUTES!!!!! It took us 5 minutes to get home with our food and of course the fish was completely dried out on a wilted bed of greens with anorexic looking tomatoes. They put white onions on the salad when it should be purple onions and the knife skills are abysmal because there were big giant chunks of the onion. Definitely not worth $9.75 for a salad. The Turkey Avocado sandwich on Sourdough was dry and tough. It's like they popped the bread in the toaster and didn't put the sandwich together until the bread was ice cold. It tore up my mouth. The Chicken panini sandwich was ok but the chicken was cooked uneven and the chicken was not cut properly. Overall, a horrible experience that I will not be repeating. The owner needs to have a higher standard of dress for his/her workers. The girls working the register when we can in looked like they just rolled out of bed. When we left, a young man in a filthy shirt had taken over the register. Very, very unprofessional. Needless to say, I will not be going back. The coconut custard filling was perfect. A lot of flavor and not too sweet. It was covered with fresh fruit. My partner had eggs Florentine. My daughter and I had lunch there today. First, they have a broken sewer pipe and the entire restaurant smells like a sewer. I went to the public bathroom and it about bowled me over. The bathroom looked clean enough, but there wasn't any soap to wash my hands with. Makes me wonder what the employees do when they do in there. We ordered 2 sandwiches with fries and 2 sodas. My Diet Coke tasted weird. Looked at the bottom of the can and it expired 11/21. Took it back inside and they gave me a can that expired in 5/22. Finally just asked for water. My daughter's sandwich was okay. Mine was wrong when they brought it out. They did remake it which I appreciated, but I honestly felt sick from the sewer smell. I left 75% of it on the plate.
