Not sure what the negative reviews are about, I've been here a few times since moving to the area and the pastries are incredible. The croissants are so so good, they make me never want to get a Starbucks croissant again! I haven't tried the food but I can say from the times I've got pastries they've been exceptional each time. My favorites so far are the chocolate croissant, crème brûlée, and chocolate mousse cup. The service was fine each time too, nothing to complain about. We purchased a box of different pastries and cookies for a family who had lost a loved one. We also purchased two items for ourselves to eat in the car. We each took a bite of our different pastry and they were OLD! We had no choice but to deliver the box we ordered to the family, but we feel terrible that we gave them old pastries. Been going here for years and the place has been going downhill. The attitude of the front counter staff is just stupid. Please do not confuse this so called French bakery cafe to the one located in Carlsbad. Everytime I come here the wait time for food is long. My friends keep asking me where's your food. The Staff here is not friendly and it feels like it's a burden for them to help me, like I owe them money or something. But when their friends come to visit them they are all happy and give them special attention. They have an orah of complacency and an attitude that if you are not one of them, you are garbage. We here for a lunch and had a really nice meal. The cafe has outdoor and indoor seating. There's plenty of parking as they share a lot with Albertsons and a variety of other stores. You see a glass case displaying a variety of their pastries. There's a cashier you can order from and then find your own table. They will bring your order to your table when it's ready. We ordered: Quiche: - this was a very large portion of quiche which was served warm. Also came with a nice hunk of fresh baguette and a side salad Philly cheesesteak sandwich: - we thought it was funny how a french cafe would offer a philly cheese steak. The sandwich was served on a baguette and had seared beef, peppers, onions. It was a delicious and generous sized sandwich. The beef could have been cooked less on the flat top. The side salad was nicely dressed with a vinaigrette. Chicken avocado sandwich: - This was another generous sized sandwich! The sandwich was warm and had a nice helping of warm chicken, avocado, and melted cheese. Friend loved this sandwich. The side salad was also fresh. We tried a variety of desserts too. My favorite was the creme brulee. The sugary crust cracked so beautifully when we broke it with our spoons. The custard underneath was sooo creamy and not too sweet. I wonder if they can make this brulee in pie form for a future party? The macaroons tasted richly of coconut. Friends and I split a box of desserts to bring back. My family loved the french cannoli that had each end dipped in chocolate. The fresh fruit tart was also a hit. The desserts tasted pretty good in the morning too. Staff was great and helpful. They're young and work hard which I appreciate. The items we had were made from scratch and affordable. Kind of hard traits to find these days. I'd return to try more items. The location is tucked away in Vista so it's a bit off the exit. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area. They also have a Carlsbad location. read more

Stopped in to pick out items for a gathering. Wow what a selection. The nice gentlemen who assisted me was knowledgeable, helpful and polite. Their Florentine lace stuffed rolled cookies are magic in your mouth. Get a few, you'll thank me later. Lots of cakes ready to be boxed. This bakery takes pride in their work and it's a lost art with big store sheet cakes if you go that route. These are wow factor baked items so please help support our local businesses. I've had breakfast here in the past, and if I based my review off those two experiences, it would have been two stars for slow service and the price not matching food quality. I'll pay for ambience, but this place lacks that too. If I just stick with desserts, I am mostly satisfied. I usually just pick whatever looks good in the case that day. I found that the dark chocolate ganache/marshmallow blobs satisfied my sweet tooth but were way overpriced. I did like the lemon filling of the birds nest. It was actually lemon curd and not cheap donut jelly. I spent quite a bit, about 20$, and was disappointed with the paper bag treatment my goodies received. The blobs got nicked. Luckily I wasn't gifting anything to anyone but myself. One thing I have noticed is there's sometimes condensation in the dessert case, to where you can barely see what's inside. That makes me question the textures of the items and I've skipped purchases those days. Overall, I will return if in the area for a treat or two. However I'm hardly on this side of town. We special ordered a cake for my son's birthday, quarter-sheet chocolate strawberry. My wife went the day prior, which happened to be right during the parade so it took her a long time to navigate and get there. She gave very clear instructions, dropped off the cake toppers and decor, and then later followed up with another detailed email. Cake was supposed to be ready the next day at 9:30, so I call and am told it's done. Well, it wasn't. They hadn't prepped it at all, they just pulled up one of their regular cakes. We had asked for specific colors and decor. So I had to leave and go back putting us behind timeline for our party, when I showed up an hour later when I was told it would be ready, it still wasn't, and had to wait about 15-20 minutes. I asked if we could have a discount for the mistakes and the extra time involved. The chef/manager/owner, whomever, comes out and says there's no reason for a discount and, "Do you want the cake or not?" Literally rude as all get out, said that twice. Like my son isn't going to get his birthday cake! I was very professional during the encounter, the chef/manager/owner was not. Inexcusable, did not even get an apology or anything remotely like it. Wow, getting much worse. in the past I would get a baguette and pastry here. Then they stopped making baguettes! They call themselves a French bakery and no baguettes. Was in there today, the only menus they had up were for coffee drinks, no food items. There were four employees doing various things, playing with their cell phones, cleaning etc. I waited a full five minutes, not one employee even acknowledged I was there! I left purchased nothing. Best cakes and pastries in Vista! We love their custom made cakes. They are pricier than getting a Costco sheet cake for a birthday party but they end up always being a huge hit with guests. Very bad customer service! All the employees are a bunch of young kids that don't take seriously their job. And they have very bad aptitude! I went here for my sons birthday cake I ask them to put a message on the cake, the first kid that help me write it on a paper a show it to me and it was fine but then he got busy and pass the paper to another girl that was his getting started with her shift. I asume she follow exactly what the paper said, so I trusted that it was ok. When I got home I open the cake and instead of 15 she wrote 50!! I don't know where she got the number from. Very upsetting! When I call the bakery and explain what happened she said to come back and they can fix it when I'm 30 min away from them, It is my time and my time is valuable. I know I should just go back and get my money back but I really was very busy and honestly why bother to go back and deal with a bunch of unprofessional kids! I ordered 15 almond croissants yesterday for today's 8am picked up. I picked it up and drove straight to Orange County for our Father's Day get together. I was shocked and embarrassed when I opened the two boxes, because most of the almonds croissants were burnt, not only it looked burnt, it tasted burnt as well. We ended up throwing away most of them...Such a waste of money. In addition, the customer service was really awful...No hello, can I help you, etc.... This girl with long hair just stare and looked at me with an angry expression and walked in the kitchen flirting with another male worker for a few minutes and then walked back out and stared at me again while I just stood there waiting. When I tried to get her attention, she walked away... Finally another girl noticed and helped me. I told my brother and he knew exactly which girl because she was rude to him as well. It is such a shame that the owner allowed this type of customer service at his business. Warning! If you order pastries for pickup, open the box and check while you're there. If I can give a negative 1star for this review I would. Two weeks ago my boyfriend and I decided to go out for breakfast which we usually don't do (we tend to go out for dinners instead). We've been talking about checking the French Bakery Cafe out for a long time. We live less than a 10 minute walk away. We drove of course haha! My boyfriend had the quiche and I had the omelette florentine. They were both exceptional! The young gentleman at the register was super friendly and helpful which made our experience 10X better. We did notice one of the girls behind the counter was working on a cake. It looks amazing! We are thinking of ordering one for one of our birthdays. Before leaving we made sure we took some pastries home with us. Unfortunately we savaged out on them and didn't get a chance to take a picture. Don't bother with the crepes - they just aren't that good, especially the strawberry custard. The custard was grainy and too thick and not very flavorful, and the strawberries were old. I could actually taste the beginning of mold in a couple of bites. The crepes themselves were rubbery. They are nice enough but the food quality just isn't there. This place has changed its name over the years, but has been a French bakery since I was a little kid. I've always come here for delicious desserts and treats. I've honestly not ever had something there that I didn't like. The service is also always great here. Terrible. I came in & ordered their famous chicken florentine crepes. As the young woman was ringing in my order, an older woman came to her & whispered something in her ear. Then she looks up to tell me: 'we have no crepes'. I was told they had no crepes. I ordered a spicy sausage breakfast club, with Swiss cheese. As you can see from my pic, I got cheddar instead and I needed a magnifying glass to locate the 'spicy sausage' . I also ordered coffee and requested honey. They said they had no honey. So, there's a first for me - a French bakery cafe with no crepes nor any honey? Hmmm. Maybe they should post a more accurate menu - with the dishes they actually have, so that customers can decide whether or not they want to try their establishment. Just had one of the most horrible, dry, tasteless eclairs I've ever had. Seemed to be days old. It was split in two (not filled properly) and spread with what seemed to be curdled Jello vanilla pudding--but with no flavor at all. Where is the creme or mousse filling? Ugh. I ordered a 3 leches cake with fruit on it. The woman who took my order offered extra milk, so When I received the cake i expected it to be moist. It was extremely dry! When I called to talked to the manager to tell him that my cake was dry, he began to argue and say "no because I made myself." then he proceeded to tell me that "we are not in Mexico so don't expect a 3 leaches cake with milk dripping of the cake." I bought a $112 cake for my cousin birthday because he wanted it from here and so I did. NOBODY ate the cake it was really moist like if it was raw. I bought a white and chocolate the white tasted like if you were eating sugar tastes NOTHING like cake the chocolate one was pale didn't look like chocolate. I was really disappointed because I spent way to much money for a cake to end in the trash. This was absolutely the worst cake I've ever had. It looked nice on the outside but the cake itself was unbearably dry and flavorless. The mousse inside was ok, but not the best. The whipped cream had an odd taste and texture and the chocolate on the strawberries on top was really bland. The best part about the cake was the chunks of stawberries inside, but they were so sparce. I found myself picking out the strawberries out of the cake and we tossed the rest. Pastries used to be fabulous, but in the last couple of months, they stopped using real whipping cream to make whipped cream to cover some pastries. That was a really bad decision, since the canned aerosol variety is too sweet, doesn't taste like whipped cream, and won't clean off the utensils in the dishwasher. The restaurant couldn't tell me the brand name. Too bad. In addition, the pastry cream doesn't taste right either, the shaved chocolate is now chocolate ? sprinkles and the constantly new employees are often clueless. I was really excited to try this cafe and when I walked in, they had some pretty looking pastries! The sizes of pastries are quite generous... so, I ordered a cafe mocha and a chocolate croissant. The service was nice and they were to bring the coffee to our table. I was really excited to taste it but the cafe mocha was luke warm. I asked my friend and theirs is also luke warm. It's almost like I want to ask to use their microwave to heat it up. Then the chocolate croissant was turn... i took the first bite and it was flaky and then my second bite felt gritty, like there was sand was in the croissant....I didn't like it as I didn't know that it could be the flakiness of the croissant or sand....
