My first visit here and I placed an order for a cold brew coffee with sugar free vanilla and a cherry crepe. After about two minutes later I was informed they were out of cold brew coffee but could substitute an iced americano. Admittedly I'm not a big coffee drinker and only know a couple that I like but not sure how a coffee place runs out of coffee 30 minutes after they open and aren't aware when taking my order. My iced americano was put on the counter first and I couldn't help but notice they apparently were also out of sugar free vanilla, well either that or didn't remember to add it. My crepe came and I was disappointed the moment I saw it. I assumed with it being cherry season that fresh cherries would be used. They used a Black Cherry that reminded me of the canned variety. My favorite place to walk to and have coffee and meet a friend and/or clients. The staff is nice and cheerful most of the time, the crepe's are delicious (I always get the breakfast special- choose one meat, one cheese, and two veggies-I get sausage, feta, avocado, and tomotoes) and the soy latte's are good. There's outside seating for the spring and summer, wifi's free-if a bit on the slow side, and it's dog friendly-as long as you don't bring it inside. For people who live in south commercial, it's my favorite place. read more

I ordered a bacon avocado omelette with potatoes. The potatoes were barley cooked and or burned. There was a rind left on my avocado. I arrived a few minutes early and waited for awhile, not greeted, and my food was still cold. The only reason I ate it was because I was that hungry and already in my office. So French Press might just be my favorite crepe place I've ever been to. Yes, it gets busy, but that's what happens when a place has a pleasant atmosphere and rockin' good food. Any time I drive to or through Salem, I WILL make a stop at French Press. The Big D's is like a gift to my mouth--the lime sherry cream sauce is a little taste of heaven. I've tried several other things there, which have all been pretty good, but Big D's is definitely my go-to, and they've only been out of salmon once. The prices are incredibly reasonable $7.95 for a yummy crepe that is more food than you should eat but will finish because it's THAT good. Not bad but not good. Drive thru was a bit of a wait. And the strawberries on my crepe didn't seem that fresh a little soggy.

I'm more of a sweet crepe eater, and I have yet to try their savory ones. However, every single one of the sweet crepes are delicious. I would recommend the banana or the cherry kijafa, both of which are my favorites. The medium French press coffee is also a good buy, I haven't had a better French press-style coffee anywhere. The inside of the restaurant is well laid out, and it's comfortable to sit there and relax. It does become very loud during regular rushes and seating can become an issue, but the food is worth it. Prices are reasonable, but not cheap. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who loves good coffee and delicious food. read more

Went this morning with a friend for coffee. Cute place when you first walk in but a little confusing on if you get a table and order or go to counter. Menus are placed at the door and there is no sign of direction. Tables are really close together. The man taking my order was very friendly. I ordered a grasshopper latte and a caramel apple crepe. The grasshopper latte was terrible, and the crepe was delicious! I gave this place three stars for the friendly service and the delicious crepe. I have used French Press drive through many times. They are one of the only espresso shops in Salem which provides a heavy cream option for their breve. I have ordered a breve many times through the drive through: I order a "breve;" and when I pay and they bring it to window,they confirm by asking if I had ordered the "breve." Today I went inside to have some crepes and my usual breve. When I ordered the "breve with heavy cream," the person at the register asked if I wanted a latte. I said no, I wanted a breve with heavy cream, and she asked with just coffee or with espresso. I clarified again, but wondered why they would confuse a cup of coffee with cream with a breve with heavy cream. I sat and waited for my order. After twenty minutes, I went up and asked for a refund citing my need to get to an appointment and that I had not been served either the breve or the crepes. She apologized about the crepes and said they were near done and they could pack them for take out. I declined. She also then pointed out that the latte was on the counter and had been there for a few minutes. I had been watching many individuals claim their drinks, and had seen when a "large latte" was announced and placed on the counter. So, I then reminded the cashier that I had not ordered a large anything, and that my order was for a "breve" and not a latte. She then began explaining how she had tried to point out some difference in her term when I had ordered, and I clarified that I had distinguished my order of a breve with heavy cream at the time of the order to ensure I would not get just a latte. I then asked if she could just proceed with my refund as time was passing. She then tried again to explain the use of the term "latte" in place of "breve with heavy cream." The barista also came over to explain, and I pointed out how there had never been any misunderstanding or use of the term "latte" when I had many times ordered this drink through the drive through. I said it would be good for them to consistently use the same terms. She said that they had. They refunded my payment and $3.00 tip. I am not sure why there was this confusion or their consistent inability to understand and accept my explanation of their conflation of "latte" and "breve." A cappucino is not a "latte." A mocha is not a "latte." A macchiato is not a "latte." A breve is not a "latte." Etc.! (A "con panna" might be misunderstood to a "breve with heavy cream," though. That I would have understood.) I stopped by for brunch with my boyfriend this afternoon. Neither of us had been before. I'm not a big coffee drinker so I ordered a glass of milk and a sweet crepe (Emilee's Love: bananas flambé, Nutella, hazelnuts). Ben got a single French press coffee and a savory crepe with turkey, mozzarella, spinach, and tomatoes. The service was friendly but left a bit to be desired. Once our food was delivered we never had anyone check back. In a normal coffee shop I wouldn't have minded this but since we had our food delivered and it wasn't just a pastry in a bag I was expecting a little more effort from the staff. The food is good here but some of the workers are real dolts. I go through the drive thru and order a crepe a panini and a grasshopper coffee drink. They tell me it's going to be a 40 minute wait for food. Fine, I'll wait. So I get up to the window and ask her to make my drink when my food comes out. She gives me this incredulous look and says "but we've already made it." This was are first time trying there crepes, and I wasn't disappointed. We ended up getting lunch (cordon bleu, blta) and dessert (Strawberry, Emilee). The crepes are made from scratch not some pre-made thing, and they don't skimp on the filling. For about $7.50 each, this was a good value for something that isn't common in Salem, especially when making homemade can be a hassle. Such a cute little place. The ambiance is casual and kid friendly. My husband and I decided to finally give this place a go. We brought the kids.. total first timers to anything crepes. We ordered them the plain crepe with powdered sugar and whip cream, I decided what the hell it's Sunday and added nutella ($1.00 extra) and they loved them, sugar galore so I knew they would lol. Hubby ordered the breakfast overload and a vanilla latte he played it safe, he's not a big coffee drinker. I ordered the chicken cordon blue with the rico explorer latte. The food and drinks were all so good.. but.. yes there's a but.. the service is friendly but kind of slow, they brought my husband his food then the kids and then mine. It's a small place so I will take that into account with my rating. There was a couple there who had been waiting 30 min for their food ( I think they forgot about them) and they left, money was refunded and they got free coffee so at least the French Press tried to make it right. We've been going here since we moved to Salem a couple years ago. Always had very good pastries, crepes, and sandwich. The patio can be a little loud, but is really nice on Sunday mornings when traffic isn't bad. I've always had pleasant interactions with the staff there (they aren't quite as "bubbly" as other places in town, but they seem genuinely friendly). Sometimes service on food can be a little slow, but it's never been unbearable (and we have a young child so sometimes our patience for slow service wears thin). read more

I love this place... usually go there every Saturday... and any other time I can. The coffee is great, love all the specialty coffee drinks. Most are made with dark chocolate, like the rico the explorer.. dark chocolate, coconut and banana... have had them hot and blended, haven't had a bad one yet. Staff is easily adaptable, sometimes i switch the banana for raspberry... no problem!! They also have lots of non coffee options, italian sodas, hot chocolate. etc.. The crepes are delicious, there is one for every time of day. Fresh fruit crepes are great for a lite breakfast or a dessert. For a heavier breakfast, or for the man in the family... they have a breakfast crepe, you pick the meat, veggies, cheese, or a loaded breakfast crepe ( add potatoe as well)... They also have specialty crepes, where they have picked items and melded them into a good combo. I have had just about every flavor of crepe they have... chicken, blt, black forest, breakfast, blueberry, strawberry, strawberry with nutella, peach, caramel apple, emily's love (custard,banana,chocolate), loaded breakfast. Lots of add ons like nutella so you can switch them up and have a new flavor everyday. In the winter, I reccomend to stick with the meat crepes, alot of the fruit crepes are canned or compote or ?? and the bluberry ?? was not so good. If you want fruit crepes, wait till spring/summer and get FRESH fruit crepes, they are wonderful... I have gotten pastries and bagels there as well, okay, but deffinitely not their specialty, stick with the crepes. The setting is full of warm woods, dark tiles, warm maroon, nice fireplace, smell of coffee roasting, very cozy. Most days they play french parisian music, very soothing. I love escaping there for a nice quiet hour hiden away from the world to have good food and refresh... They also have a nice outdoor area to eat and a drive thru. I was at the French Press yesterday and I witnessed exceptional customer service. I don't know the exact details, but a woman at another table had some sort of issue with her Italian Soda (I think) and the young woman serving her went out of her way to fix the issue, checking back with her several times and basically waiting on her at her table. Since my boyfriend took me here on one of our first dates it has been our place. We would come here almost every Sunday and always have the same: a turkey crepe and a white mocha.
