Came here for a treat while visiting the Whitney. Friendly service with cute modern interior complements the overall feel as an extension of the museum. Got the paris brest, princess cake, and coffee! Everything was amazing, 10/10! Probably was the best paris brest I've had thus far. This restaurant was a joy to experience. The decor is light and airy with good use of natural lighting with large windows. It's in a new Whitney museum on the ground floor. I did make reservations because it can get very crowded. I made a 1115am reservation and was seated quickly. I ordered a iced Chai latte, a butternut pasta and a wonderful pistachio creme pastry. My sister ordered a the same iced Chai latte, a tomato based pasta dish and a custard cream filled pastry. Everything was so delicately flavored , I could not stop myself from loving every bite. The pistachio pastry was so light and finely textured- it was another level of pastry creation. The waitress and staff was helpful and courteous. Will definitely return here before seeing the Whitney museum. The restaurant was packed as we left so reservations are definitely recommended. read more

I felt sophisticated dining at the Whitney. We sat outside with our toddler and enjoyed great lunch service (no exhibit ticket needed). The pizza with anchovies was a surprise hit. Fresh out of the oven it had a stunning balance of fragrant bread, sweet sauce, and savory seafood slivers. We also had a tuna sandwich, spaghetti, and side salad but those were less memorable. I was meeting my friend for a museum date and was early so decided to have a drink at Frenchette. When my friend arrived we decided to try their desserts as an early treat. We got the blueberry tart and the lemon meringue tart and both were excellent! I really need to check out the original Frenchette bakery next time I'm in NYC. read more

Excellent meal. If you are going to visit the Whitney this is the perfect place to grab a bite before or after you explore the museum. The bread basket is huge. If you are four people it's plenty but as a party of two it's a lot of bread but it is so delicious. I hade pasta which was very good. My partner had what was maybe the best roast beef sandwich I've ever tried. They are busy particularly on weekends so reservations are a must. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by my lunch at this restaurant! I wasn't expecting there to be such a wide variety of options for food, especially because this is often referred to as a café. The natural light really brings up the space, and the tables are nicely spaced apart. They are also very accommodating for families with young children in terms of having space for strollers to be parked, and providing high chairs. I won't go again, at least alone. I dropped in after a visit to the Whitney. I sat there for 15 minutes waiting for a waiter to come to me. Then a couple was seated next to me, and a waitress went over to them immediately. I walked out and ate somewhere else. I dropped in here for a bite after seeing the Whitney's Biennial exhibit. This dining space inside the Whitney used to be called Untitled; you can dine here or takeaway without having to pay museum admission. It's a bright airy space with walls of windows; there's a takeaway counter with pastries and savory goods when you first enter; the restaurant is behind a wall of shelved plants and tchotchkes. There is indoor and patio seating. The menu offers viennoiserie, patisserie, soups, salads, pizz'ettes, sandwiches, pasta and a few entrees. I tried their kouign amann and jambon buerre sandwich with the additional salad. The pastry was fine, perhaps not as buttery as I would have liked. The sandwich was delish. I also had a non-alcoholic mimosa. Frenchette also runs the Studio Bar inside the museum on the 8th floor; it has a similar but smaller menu (no hot items). A great place to try if you're visiting the museum or the Meatpacking District. There's a Shake Shack next door also, right under the HighLine. read more

Frenchette gets the space it deserves. Spacious with floral arrangements to welcome you there's the incredible baked goods and sandwiches & a huge open space to chow down. Ate: Buckwheat chocolate chip cookie $4.05 One of my favorites in NYC & I've had a lot this one adds an interesting note with buckwheat. I walked in just after opening to a fabulous morning playlist and everyone getting ready for the day with focus and positive energy. Yes, the prices are high, but it's connected to the Whitney museum, so I expected that. The flat white was delicious but with a bit more foam than I expected. The pain aux raisin was delicious, crunchy on the edges due to the butter dripping on the bake pan, and the sugary syrup even throughout. The plump raisin had a little of the syrup, too. Fabulous waitstaff, and you can't complain about an amazing plant installation in the shop. Glad I came early for a member morning. read more

I had a lovely brunch here with a girlfriend while in Brooklyn. The menu is small but lovely. The decor was comfortable and upscale. The service was nice though apparently you have to ask for your coffee to be refilled. It was good coffee though. I had an avocado toast and it was okay. First time visiting the Whitney Museum and heard about the new cafe! The drinks were alright but the pastries were very solid! -The twice baked noisette was jam packed with a nutty filling. Prominent hazelnut flavors against a subtle chocolate background inside a crunchy croissant pastry. -The paris-brest a la pistache was filled with smooth pistachio cream and the other pastry was nice/fresh -The eclair was tasty but felt that the vanilla custard could have had strong vanilla flavors. The outer layer of chocolate was good. -The citrus tart was nicely balanced; crust was good, meringue was fluffy. Overall wasn't too sour with either chunks of orange vs tangerine -The canele had a nice vanilla flavor but texture felt more like cake than the chewy canele. -The cortado unfortunately was kinda burnt and thus tasted bitter, but pastries were definitely better! There is a sit down area and a to-go section separated by a panel of plants/pots and flowers. The service in the to-go section wasn't super quick but varies depending on how many staff members were there. Note that you'll have to finish your drinks/food before you go into the actual museum part. read more

The vibes were great and the place is beautiful. While the happy hour shishito snack and drinks were great. The main course came out and our spaghetti flavor was great but the amount of oil and butter in this meal was appalling. It was not incorporated into the meal AT ALL. It's not hard to make a decent pizza, even if it's not great. But the $26 small vodka pizzetta was so bland, skimpy and underwhelming, it felt like a straight-up scam - selling the minimum possible (and exceptionally tasteless) for a premium price. read more

Frenchette gets my five stars not for the food but for the startlingly amazing level of service. The cappuccino with oat milk was perfect. But my sandwich, yes, the vegetarian one which has oyster mushrooms chopped up, a tiny bit of broccoli Rabe smooshed together with ricotta cheese in a sesame bun, was uninspired. Or maybe it was inspired, but never delivered on its promise. (thinking about this, swapping goat cheese for the ricotta, more broccoli rabe, and just more filling overall that's not cold pieces of mushroom would help fix this sandwich) What was amazing was my server came to check on me and when I mentioned the sandwich was not so great he asked how they could make it better and then a second person came along and urged me to stop eating and order some thing else. How kind! I had to get out of there, so I said no and they comped my coffee. Very, very nice set of people. I will have to go back and try something else. The space itself is beautiful. Be sure to make a reservation if you don't want a middle table or a high top chair. read more

We ate here on a whim and were lucky enough to get a high top table. We are shocked at how good the food was, really. The bread with chicken liver mousse, the black turnip soup, the spring pea salad, the Arctic char and the gnocchi Arrabiata were all perfect. Kudos to the chefs. read more

Was excited ti try this as regulars to the Whitney . Great location . Ordered a classic French Croque madame. Thought it was odd to taste mustard in first bite . But friend who ordered the same said yes indeed she tasted mustard too . Tried a different side hoping better but the next bite so much worse all mustard and gave up . My friend was more annoyed they used French bread which the knife had a tough time with ( that didn't even bother me ) I Could forgive this if when they finally came back an hour later , to remove dish ( mine barely touched ) we both needed more coffee . We told them the problem she said sorry but No one offered anything . We will never come back . BTW I went to another French bistro today and ordered the same dish . They laughed loudly when I asked is mustard a new thing . No they use bechamel sauce like every other French restaurant we know they said . It was delicious and as expected . I'm sorry to write this -- met a friend for lunch and museum visit, with lunch on main floor in the Frenchette cafe/restaurant .. I had high expectations from reviews in NY Eater etc (my friend the food critic Robert Sietsema gave it very high marks) ... particularly the pizza .. which I ordered, plain, tomato and mozzarella .. my friend was hungry and ordered the Croque Madame ... first of all, they brought her food first and left me hanging there while she started to eat, I had to call a waitperson to ask where my food was, which then came, and the tomato sauce and cheese were in a sloppy wet pool within the pizza crust -- soupy, like a shallow lake ... it was gross and disgusting .. of course I went about eating out of politeness and in respect to my friend, and took half of it home ... but, I am shocked ... I hope this was a one off and not typical, but I am sorry I was the unlucky one on the roulette wheel to get this ... yuck ... bad move, guys read more

Canele and pistachio croissant are fantastic. Their place near the financial district was my first stop when I got to town and their pistachio croissant was amazing. I stopped into this location and had something else (can't recall!) as well as their canele. Hands down these are the only ones worth having in the city. I was there for 2.5 weeks...trust me, I did the research. They're tied for first with Boulettes Larder in San Franciso. They have the slightest crisp exterior, and the middle is melt in your mouth tender. I hate the chewy hockey pucks others try to pass off. I had to stop back into their south location before leaving town to stock up on about a 1/2 dozen. read more
