This is review #2600 for me! Veniero's is a classic New York place. It's been around over 125 years! I was here during a walk around the East Village after an early weeknight dinner. I heard they have a good rainbow cookie! I left with 8 rainbow cookies and 1 slice of coconut cake. I schlepped them on the L, then the C, and all the way to the UWS. I put the box in the refrigerator and sampled the goods a little later. The rainbow cookies are fine but the coconut cake is where it's at! It's 3 layers with thick icing and lots of coconut. Absolutely amazing! I scouted this place out before our trip to the city because I wanted a delicious cheesecake. Well I found this place and it didn't disappoint at all. When we went, it wasn't busy so we were greeted and helped immediately. The staff was nice and helpful despite what other reviews said. They have so many options of cheesecake flavors but I just wanted the plain. They also have other desserts and when I saw the cherry butter cookies I had to get some. Everything was delicious and it held up very well with our travel back to Koreatown area and the flight home to Florida. I have a core memory of cheesecake that was crust less from my childhood that my mom used to get and keep in the freezer. I've been searching for that unique flavor and this is it! I had a delivery order from this classic 125 year old Italian bakery. The cannolis were excellent...crispy shell, delicious generous filling, the ends dipped in pistachios. Best spot in the city, no doubt. You walk in and it has the old school Italian ambiance that you want...glass cases full of beautiful, ornate, delicious pastries, great service, and a vibe that lets you know right away why this was Frank Sinatra's (and many others) favorite spots. Their sugar-free cookies do not have a weird bitter aftertaste, which is welcoming. Service can be gruff or personable, depending on day and time. They ha lot of desserts available and surrounded by old world charm they have earned for years! It's good for stopping by to have some coffee or hot chocolate some with alcohol in it and an array of Italian desserts. My favorite is aluminum. It has pistachio layer and the center with cherries and and a cream frosting outside. The size is also just enough for me. They also have my favorite Pinole nuts. Two things I love in this place. It is also across the bus stop on First Avenue. Or half a block down from Second Avenue if coming from the north. read more

went on a Late Sunday afternoon to pick up some pastries & sweets Such a magical NY fixture !! .. we got a 6in NY Cheesecake, vanilla Lobster tail, a mini carrot cake & a mini Millifoglia .. the cream inside of the lobster tail & the millifoglia was amazing .. I loooved these sweets so much even though I hate powdered sugar !! the worker was very kind, patient and helpful ... Cannolis are amazing. Crispy on the outside and the filling is not too sweet. Friends got affogato and the colorful ice cream item and both enjoyed. The service is fast, there's a decent amount of space to sit in the back and there are endless cake, cookie and other dessert options to choose from. Came to Veniero's on a weekend night for dessert with a couple of friends. The line (for both seated tables and to-go orders) was out the door but it moved suprisingly quickly. The wait staff were very quick with ordering which allowed tables to turn over but there was never any pressure to finish quickly. We enjoyed our meals in the dining room in the back which has a nice old-school Italian vibe. - New York Cheesecake (4.5/5) - The classic cheesecake was definitely our favorite - Cookies and Cheese Cheesecake (3.5/5) - dry, wouldn't repeat - Tiramisu Cake (4/5) - Good, but would probably try actual tiramisu next time - Rainbow Cake (4/5) - not bad if you like rainbow cookies, but slightly dry Have been to Veniero's many times and there's truly something for everyone! This used to be my favorite Italian bakery. I haven't been to this bakery in years like ten years since I was a teenager. Today I decided to make a special trip to go here to grab a few goodies. I forgot how small the place was and how low the ceilings were. That wasn't an issue though. The place was nice and cakes were stacked neatly. What was surprising to me is that they don't have any cookies laid in the front display. It's all placed in the back almost hidden. I was deeply disappointed with their cookie selection. It was deeply surprising that they don't sell the butter cookies that had jam in the middle and dipped with chocolate on one side with sprinkles. I did ask the clerk and even showed him a pic of what I was looking for and he said they never sold them. They only had the linzer cookies and they didn't look so good. They also did not have the lobster tail. They did have the sfogliatelle which they also called a lobster tail. I thought they were not the same? Some bakeries sell both and they are definitely not the same. I did end up buying one of their sfogliatelle with cream and some rugelachs. The sfogliatelle was good but the rugelachs tasted slightly underbaked. It did taste fresh though unlike many I've had in other bakeries. However, for $28 per pound, I wouldn't get it again. For those not having lobster tail and not having the Italian cookies, I will have to give Veniero's a low rating. I never thought an Italian bakery would not carry staples. Very disappointed. I need to find another Italian bakery now. read more

I like the old style nature of Venieros. You can come in and they have a number of great desserts competing for your interest. From mini cheesecakes, tiramisus to cookies it's a vast array. Very busy cafe. Service to be seated and then to get the check was not good. Once when you order it's very quick to get the food. And I didn't have to wait long to order. Ambiance was pretty. The service is great the staff are very friendly. The ambiance is also very merry especially during Christmas season. Now onto the food. I tried six of their cakes, lobster tails, and cannolis. The cheesecake was the best but made my stomach feel weird afterwards. I would recommend to skip the cakes and lobster tails and go straight to the chocolate or regular cannoli. Make sure to eat it fresh! I also ordered a cannoli package from them through Goldbelly to deliver to my friend for Christmas. While I thought it was delicious in New York, it was not very tasty according to her after traveling across the country. I went to this place expecting a lot more from the reviews and how long they've been in business spent about $60 on treats we got the Sicilian cheesecake. It was good. The other cake was very OK. There was very little chocolate in it and then to the cannolis, I bought a lot of small cannolis a couple big cannolis the small ones were stale And very disappointing that I had checked all that way from Newark to pick them up and an hour later eating them so it was not that I waited too long to eat them. They were stale and I don't know if it's because it was a weekend and maybe they didn't have the turnover they thought but again completely disappointing. This was overall not a great experience I would not recommend this. There are much better places for cannolis anywhere in the city I think I only gave it stars because the gentleman that helped me was very nice read more

Nice bakery offering a wide variety of Italian desserts, lots of seating, and is open late!! The tiramisu was solid and Black Forest cake slice was soft and moist with the cream not too heavy. Tiramisu was really nice and thick / creamy! There is a bit of tanginess in the Black Forest cake from the cherries, probably from preserved cherries used? I brought my family who were visiting from out of town to Veniero's for dessert after dinner. We ordered our desserts at the counter and were told we could sit inside the cafe, which was much appreciated given it was a hot day. However, when we approached the seating area, we were informed by an employee that customers who order at the counter were not allowed to sit inside and would need to sit outside in the heat instead. This was really awkward, and the cashier had to come over and argue with the employee managing the seating area. Note that this was on a Thursday at noon when the cafe was almost entirely empty. We ultimately got a table, but the experience was very uncomfortable, uninviting, and soured our evening. And at one point the employee managing the seating area came to our table to tell us that people who order at the counter need to sit outside. This was an incredibly embarrassing experience for me as the host. The entire time, the employee managing the seating area was staring at us, and we didn't order any drinks (even though we typically would have) in case they would spit in our drinks or something. What should have been a pleasant dessert stop with family turned into an embarrassing and rude experience. This was an incredibly humiliating experience and I will not be bringing guests here again. read more

The Mr. and I were recently nearby, so took advantage of the opportunity to visit. We weren't the only ones who had the same idea. The line was out the door for 'to go' service, so we opted to be seated. There were so many options to choose from we got a little carried away and ordered 2 cannolis, a piece of Italian cheesecake, 2 lobster tails (one chocolate and one vanilla), a sfogliatella, a latte, and a Diet Coke. Of course we ended up bringing several of the treats back to our hotel room, but what we ate, we enjoyed. The Mr. was pleased with the Italian cheesecake and I loved the citrus cream folded within the flakey pastry of the sfogliatella. The cannoli was a bit of a miss, but that's because we've been spoiled with some filled to order cannoli in the past. If to go, make sure to take a number when entering, this is not super intuitive and the process could be made much better. there is a a number sign on the wall that signals where in line they are. The cheese cake and pastries tasted really good. Overall, the pastries were really authentic tasting and not artificial. It isn't too crowded and it was a short 5-10 minute wait to get the pastries. It's been about 9 years since my last review, so let's do an update. I have always gotten my Veniero's to go, but this time we decide to sit down for dessert, since we were looking to hang out for longer. My husband had their tiramisu cake, which was really nice. My rainbow cake though, was the driest, stiffest cake that I've ever had. I'm a huge rainbow cookie fan, so this was extremely disappointing. I think I'll just get a regular cake next time or just a handful of rainbow cookies. We grabbed an apricot tart and some pignoli's to go and those were absolutely fantastic. read more

Today we bought a large strawberry layer cake at Veniero's directly from the display case for my mother-in-law's birthday. The staff was able to write a personalized message ably and efficiently. The strawberry-topped cake itself was fabulous with thin layers of soft vanilla sponge, airy and light cream, and small pieces of fresh strawberry between the layers. The top layer of frosting with the huge swirls of piping were probably a tad excessive. I appreciated that neither the cake sponge nor the frosting was not too sweet. Overall it tasted fresh and delicious, looked beautiful, and was very reasonably priced at $33 including tax. Veniero's is a true neighborhood gem. There's a good reason why it's lasted for over a century. With abundant options and consistently solid standards, the bakery is well worth repeated visits. read more
