Friendly service and solid food! We popped in here after an evening of enjoying the Frenchman street bars. We were absolutely desperate for some good carby food, and this spot delivered. There was local decor all over the walls and the space was casual dining. However, it could easily be a spot for a downtown date. Dinner here and Spotted Cat after? Awesome date! I got a large glass of ice water (well, several..) and the crawfish mac and cheese. The portion was massive, which was inconvenient as I continued my night out. It was, however, cheesy and delicious. Frenchmen All Day In New Orleans for the first weekend of its Jazz Festival, I chose lodging near Frenchmen Street. My hope was that I would spend the morning and afternoon at the Festival and visit restaurants and music clubs on Frenchmen Street. I had a ticket to see the Dirty Dozen Brass Band at Maison (508 Frenchmen Street) for a show starting at 10 p.m. After finishing the afternoon at the Festival I returned to my hotel (the Hampton Inn French Market Area) and after a brief nap went looking for locations nearby for dinner. Given a recommendation by a local resident, I chose Frenchmen All Day, pretty much right across the street from Maison. Genuine, reasonably priced, and perfectly portioned, I had their crawfish étouffée ($17) and an Abita lager. Mild enough for les Americans, the dish seasoned up nicely with some Tabasco Sauce. Service was friendly and prompt, and I left knowing that this was the real deal, exactly what I was looking for in Cajun cuisine. read more

Cute little spot for breakfast or brunch/lunch along Frenchman St. between the French Quarter and the Marigny. Very homey. Sitting at a table by the window felt a little like being at a small neighborhood cafe in Paris. We started with roasted shishitos tossed in a spicy sesame ponzu. They were roasted well but it was the heat level of the ponzu that really made the dish. For mains we had traditional New Orleans crawfish etouffee served over white rice (tasty!) and crawfish mac & cheese. The mac & cheese dish was actually a little bland, so we added some of the shishitos and some of their house hot sauce that was on the table to give it some more taste and character. That worked well, so it ended up being good, too. Not a must-visit place, but definitely good, solid food and good service in a quiet neighborhood outside the French Quarter. read more

Heck yeah! That's what I'm gonna say when we go back to New Orleans and my wife asks me if I want to eat here again. We stayed right off Borboun Street and we decided to walk here which is not too far. I got the Crawfish Hash and I am glad I did, they were not stingy with the crawfish and it had great flavor. We received great customer service and they were very attentive. It's not a quiet setting so you can talk without anyone listening in on your conversation as the seating is not too close to each other. My wife and I were casually hanging out in the Frenchman area and walked by this establishment. We noticed an older couple exiting and saw us checking out the menu posted outdoor. They quickly recommended we get a table to to dine as they said this was one of the best local restaurants in the area. The restaurant is small but like most places in NO, they know how to maximize their space and serve as many customers as they can. You could tell this was a place locals frequented, which is always a good sign. The food was simply amazing! I ordered the shrimp and grits with a cocktail - all of which were very good! The grits were cooked perfectly and contained a good amount of plump and juicy shrimp. Met the chef who was super nice and amazing Black man named Dwayne. Cute restaurant near the end of Frenchman Street. I was hungry for lunch and they had a few tables outside on a sunny day, so ordered shrimp and grits with a Second Line blonde ale. The lunch was delicious with plenty of shrimp and sausage with creamy grits. Service was a little slow and you need to order at the counter for outside food, but I got the beer after ordering and it wasn't too long until my food came out. I feel like we stumbled onto a hidden gem, but it might just be because we came by mid day on a Wednesday. I wanted to check out Frenchmen street because my partner loves jazz, and full disclosure, we were also looking for a place to sit and eat our vegan hot sausage po' boy that we got elsewhere. We couldn't stay at the po' boy place because there felt like microdoses of what must have been chili flakes in the air that got into our eye membranes. Frenchmen All Day was kind enough to let us eat our sandwiches after we ordered some drinks. We also ended up getting the bread pudding, which was delicious. Taggart was our server and was awesome. Road trip to NOLA to see family, look at wedding venues, and oh, see T. Swift. We heard this place was worth the wait, so we threw our names in. After about 15 minutes, we scored a seat at the bar! YASSS... I would recommend watching the bar for a party of two instead of waiting hours like we saw others have to wait - especially on a busy weekend. It's a cute place, but small. I love the artsy vibe. Nothing but really good energy from the bartender and wait staff. And this is while they were completely slammed with Swifties. After we bellied up to the bar, we ordered our bevvies. I got a carafe of mimosa (yes, for myself - don't judge) and my man - a bloody. Both were delicious. I watched the bartender as he prepared another carafe of mimosas and he LITERALLY poured an ENTIRE bottle of bubbly in the container and a teeny tiny splash of orange juice. Awwww, boy! Things are different in NOLA! haha We ordered our food which took awhile to get because things were BUSY. I mean super BUSY. I ordered the Crawfish Etoufee, which I have been craving for a long time, but sadly cannot find up in Wisconsin. My boyfriend ordered the Crawfish Benedict. I INHALED my étouffée and he devoured his Benedict while muttering, "This is insane." In retrospect, I should have made a double order for both. One of each To Go, please! This place is super cute! There are unique art items all over the walls but my favorite aspects were the original (seemingly) floors and ceilings. Beautiful! The day that we were here they had just had their oven repaired so there were a number of menu items. Hearing this, I felt a little nervous that the menu would be limited. I had no reason to be nervous though! Our server gave us some recommendations and they were spot on! My husband had the pulled pork hash which was amazing! We all ended up eating some of that due to the size and flavor. The kids shared the French toast and completely cleaned their plates! I had the turkey sandwich with a side salad and it was so good. Drinks- the Bloody Mary was probably the best we had in town. I had a cocktail that was blueberry cinnamon ginger something. I wish I could remember because it was yummy! If you enjoy being disappointed before you even get out of your car, then Frenchmen All Day is the place for you. This charming little vortex of mediocrity somehow manages to be both underwhelming and frustrating--an impressive feat, really. I'd give it zero stars if I could, but unfortunately, the system won't let me. Let's begin with the food--or more accurately, the recurring absence of it. Eggs? Gone. Pastries? Vanished. Basic dignity? Also missing. Sure, selling out can be a sign of success now and then. But when it happens this consistently, it's not popularity--it's poor management. And when they do have food, it's aggressively average. Like, "I guess this toast exists" average. Definitely not worth the price, the wait, or the emotional toll. But wait--it gets better. Or worse, depending on your tolerance for nonsense. Outside the café--literally against the wall beside the steps--is a ragtag group of self-appointed parking police, masquerading as buskers. I attempted to pull into a public spot, only to be yelled at by one of the band members like had driven onto their stage. After I yelled back that they don't own the street, they grudgingly moved. Newsflash: this is a public street, not Burning Man. I went inside to complain--because surely, the restaurant wouldn't allow random musicians to block customer parking and harass patrons, right? Wrong. The woman at the counter, with a straight face and a shrug that could win awards, said they weren't affiliated. I call BS. If a band is plugged into your building and is regularly playing outside your café more often than you have food, you're affiliated. You don't get to play dumb just because you don't want to pay them or be accountable for them playing at your establishment. Speaking of pay: maybe try actually supporting your musicians instead of forcing them to panhandle with instruments. But they can't--because they're not actually set up for it. So instead, they sneak in live music through the backdoor (or in this case, the sidewalk) and pretend it's some charming, spontaneous surprise. Spoiler: it's not. Sure, many of them are talented--but that's not the point. Talent doesn't excuse entitlement. These particular buskers are astonishingly disrespectful to the working musicians performing inside real venues--artists who've put in the time to play spots like Snug Harbor, Marigny Brasserie, and The Spotted Cat. At one point, they even had the gall to post a handwritten sign that said "The Spotted Cat," as if cardboard could somehow pass for legitimacy. That kind of willful disrespect? It's the worst kind. If they insist on playing, maybe try the bottom of Frenchmen Street at Decatur. It's still in the way, but at least it's a half block from the nearest venue. And I'm not a musician, but I do work on Frenchmen. Their blocking parking spaces isn't just rude to musicians and customers--it's a giant middle finger to the rest of us who actually work on Frenchmen and need parking too. We're all scrambling for a space, and they just waltz in and take over. It'd be so considerate if they at least told their crowd not to spill into the street while they're at it. But hey, expecting basic human decency from them? Yeah, that's clearly asking too much. It's especially rich that this mess is happening under the banner of a woman-owned business. You'd think that might come with a baseline of integrity--or at least some awareness of how not to undercut an entire community. Elevating others doesn't require steamrolling over decency, standards, or common sense. These women should know better--and frankly, do better. But hey, let me try setting up a mic and amp outside and see how long it takes for the police to show up. But I digress. Oh--and they often keep playing after the legal outdoor noise ordinance cutoff. Because of course they do. Frenchmen All Day is all vibe and no substance, and even that vibe is annoying. Keep your money. Support places that treat musicians like people, not props, and actually respect the community around them. And seriously... maybe keep food in stock while you're at it. read more

The food was delicious. We ordered several things to start the Shrimp and Tasso Pasta, and the BBQ Shrimp. Omg they were both delicious. I could probably have licked the pasta sauce from the bowl. We were in the waitstaff change over, and I don't get the sense that people ask for their names because both waiters seemed hesitant to say their names. We then met the Chef Dwayne Richard's, he is a friendly bright spot, and we asked him to choose for us what he thought we needed to eat, and he brought us the Crayfish Hash and the Gumbo. Neither disappointed. The drinks were tasty, my friend had the Baby Come Back and I had the Rabble Rouser Coffee Martini X more than 2... just saying, super tasty. Salad didn't have egg on it when served - I flagged it and server said "sorry we ran out of boiled eggs." 1) would have been nice to flag that before serving it, 2) she literally served my partner a sunny side up egg so clearly they had eggs? The chai latte was excellent for this rainy morning, it inspires you to wish you had a book so you could just hang out and drink your chai an really chai the spice and flavor. They doesn't have gluten free bread which is a bummer. I enjoyed the hollandaise sauce with my potatoes. The bacon was a little burnt at the ends which is why I lowered the rating. LOVED this little cafe that was right around the corner from where we were staying hand right across the street from one of dour favorite music spots on Frenchmen Street. We mostly came for breakfast/brunch, but it is *mostly* open all day -- there were a couple times they'd closed around lunch during the week, but it might just been because they were short staffed. DRINKS // The Bloody Mary was incredible, the drip coffee was solid, and they had a variety of great teas for the non-coffee drinkers in our group. Also enjoyed the fresh squeezed grapefruit juice -- very refreshing if you have to get up early after a long night out. FOOD // Cochon hash came with delicious pulled pork and spicy chorizo, two eggs and a creamy hollandaise. It is FILLING. But try to leave room for some red beans and rice! If you're in the mood for something lighter, the yogurt parfait was excellent, and the avocado toast was ok (good seasoning, perfectly cooked egg on top, but took this one to go and it just didn't travel well). ATMOSPHERE // Plenty of seating inside and spacious tables, and there are smaller tables available outside on the sidewalk. We stopped by for a quick drink while wandering the neighbourhood around our hotel. Friendly service, and a quaint atmosphere - how can you ask for anything more? While sitting at one of the bistro tables, I noticed that they offered key lime pie. Even better, it is home made daily in the restaurant. How can one not give that a try? The pie was perfection -- the right balance of sweet and tart, a soft gram cracker crust and a nice caramelized edges.
