I bought a cake for my boss's birthday and was so embarrassed because it was not as good as expected. It was a vanilla and chocolate cake. It was expensive. It was so dense I could barely get the knife through it. The icing was not good. I had to actually chew the icing - no melting in your mouth with this cake. Unpleasant. I left the room and threw my piece away, but most of the people felt obligated to eat it because it was our boss. I am wondering if my putting it in the fridge had anything to do with the problem? I did have it in the fridge from 9am until 2pm. I should have asked about what to do with cake until I needed it at 2pm. I love this place but lately they have been slacking with their quality. The cake was delicious we ordered a tres leches with fresh strawberries inside (extra cost) and on top and because they aren't visible they used tasteless nearly rotten strawberries. This is disappointing because the only reason they do this is, is because they aren't visible. These cakes aren't cheap and the quality should reflect that. I decided to order my sons first birthday cake here and I was so dissatisfied and disappointed with the appearance of the cake. I thankfully bought toppers since they mentioned that they do not work with fondant but this cake was supposed to be safari themed. I had my sister pick up the cake for us on a Saturday and when she brought it to the party when I had called them to complain they were already closed.( they are closed early Saturdays and closed all day Sundays) I had to wait to call them until Monday when they reopened to complain about how disappointed I was and I was not transferred to the manager or owner instead the lady in the front answered and said there was nothing they could do not even apologize for the way the cake turned out. This place I feel didn't care about the importance of my sons first birthday cake, my feedback or being understanding about my complaint. This $200 cake I feel was rushed even though we had ordered it 3 weeks in advanced and the bread was dry, frosting tasted like straight sugar. I hope that no one makes the same mistake as me and goes elsewhere for the cakes. This was a very horrible experience and I feel like if I had been able to speak to a manager or the owner instead of being brushed off it would have been better just knowing that they cared enough to listen. read more

Their stuff is okay. My office keeps ordering cakes from this place for employee birthdays and I've picked up some of them. One thing I've noticed is that their pink paper boxes for the cakes are way too small. The top is always taped so that they won't close completely and hit the tops of the cakes. This makes it slightly inconvenient to carry around and transport, especially since the box is just thin and flimsy paper. Something to be aware of, if you're planning on buying a cake and need to transport it and/or store it for some time in a fridge. read more

I am a fan of their pinwheel... those were definitely a favorite for breakfast at work. I've also had their cupcakes, which are cute but pricey. I'm not sure why I even buy cupcakes in the first place because I usually take off the frosting anyway... maybe just for looks lol. Yesterday was my first time getting a cake from French's, and it was pretty decent for the price and taste. I normally get my friend an Asian fruit tart/sponge cake for her birthday, but wanted to switch it up this year to surprise her. I opted for French's after I drove to another bakery which was reported on Yelp as being open. I called ahead but no one picked up, and unfortunately, I saw a sign on their door stating they would be closed the entire weekend. French's did not disappoint. I called and put a hold on the cake I wanted- a strawberry vanilla one with sliced almonds. When I arrived, the cake was ready for me, and I was in and out in a minute. The cake was light and not too sweet, just the way my friend and I liked. Simple as cake!! Thank you French's for a great experience at your bakery as always. This bakery is pretty much the only bakery I'll buy cakes from besides the Korean bakeries like Paris Baguette/TLJ. I've bought a few cakes here... I've had the fresh whipped cream white cake with strawberries and some White cake with Lemon filling with fondant. They were both delicious! For these 2, the design is simple. Actually the lemon one was beautiful with cherry blossom design! Anyways, monday is $10off their whipped cream cake so instead of $27 it's $17! What a deal! Also one gets a non-itemized receipt so there is no detail regard what you paid for and basically just a total. The chocolate cakes are usually good. The cookies are sometimes very dry as with the danishes. Don't over buy. While I understand it is a small shop, being surprised by pricing and charges makes one feel cheated. I'm very disappointed with French's. My family has been going there for birthday cakes, cookies and of course, the delectable wagon wheels. I tried going there today to check out and order a wedding cake for my daughter's wedding. I got there right at 3:00, not realizing that they closed at 3:00. The employee saw me, as well as two other customers that were inside. They tried to open the door for me, but the door had already been locked. The nice customer was going to order for me (so nice), but I told her that I was ordering a wedding cake. The customer told the employee, but the employee said "We're closed" and wouldn't even look at me through the window. The service at French's used to be so wonderful. But it's really gone downhill in the last few years. If you're looking for a wedding cake, try Penelope's Perfections or Simply Sweets. Their customer service is wonderful. read more

This place is hit and miss for me. I've gotten a strawberry cake that was just ok. I've also tried their sourdough bread and it was also just ok. There were some standouts recently, however. The turkey and jalapeño croissant was tasty and a nice change from the usual ham version you see elsewhere. I also recently had their chocolate cake with banana and whipped cream and it was very good. Not too sweet and the addition of real bananas was so tasty. They also control entry to 5 people at a time, which is nice during these pandemic times. Their employees are nice and patient, even during the holiday rush. I will continue to try additional pastries and desserts here and hopefully the first couple of items that were mediocre were just flukes. read more

I came in expecting a larger variety of baked goods, I was on the search for a croissant today and was displeased to find that this wasn't actually a French bakery. Maybe the owner's name is 'French'? I was quite disappointed when I ordered the flan and caramel chocolate brittle cookie. The flan was surprisingly dry and a little too eggy and the brittle cookie was okay, but nothing more than average. Maybe there is more to say about their cake quality, because they mainly display cakes. As for COVID measures, they did well with limiting the customers to 3 at a time, putting up plexiglass, wearing gloves, offering sanitizer,etc. There is a single table outside if you wanted to eat there. read more

For over 50 years my wife and I have enjoyed French's Bakery but no longer. Last week we went to purchase danish and we were treated so rudely we walked out and will not be back. As we walked through the door, the baker and the counter lady simultaneously demanded that we leave the store. (In the far corner there were several people being helped) When we asked why, the baker became very boisterous, demanding that we leave. As we walked out, he said, "And don't come back." We will take our business somewhere that appreciates their customers and treats them with respect. I was kind and courteous even though the young girl who helped me was absolutely graceless and utterly disrespectful. Purchased a blueberry pie that was so bad o could not eat more than a bite. Absolute horrible and filled with preservatives that burned my throat. The rugalah was horrible and had no crunch and felt like a mass produced store purchase. It had very little fruit. The cookies were also horrible and felt like store bought. Do. So easy to order with them and if you are in a rush they always have great cakes ready to buy there! I have only had one bad situation where I went at 4:30 on a Saturday (they close at 5) and the girls were closing up and they saw me at the door and I knocked confused and they just acted like they didn't see me (rude of them). Amazing service! Due to Covid-19, our wedding was postponed. But my fiancé and I were able to arrange a last minute court ceremony. I went to French's a day before our ceremony and asked if they could make a small wedding cake. They were so sweet and made it happen! The cake was perfect. This was my first (and last) purchase at this bakery. I read where many folks had issues with customer service, which I did not. The reason for my 2-star rating was the food. You would think that a French bakery would have baguettes on the shelf. I was told I had to order 24 hours ahead if I wanted some. They do have French bread, which I purchased, only to find that it tasted no better than supermarket bread and seemed to be a day old in texture. I also tried their butter croissants. I was not impressed! They also tasted a day old and almost soggy, not fluffy and crispy like a fresh croissant. I am a bread baker on a regular basis. I make baguettes 2-3 times per month and have made croissants many times before. I know that this is a family run business. It's time for the family to start listening to customers and improve the product. You are losing customers! read more

Avoid. Ordered a custom cake for Mother's Day. Explained clearly with photos, in person, what I wanted. I asked if they could do it and they said yes. Made the mistake of paying in advance. Came to pick up and they gave me a POS cake that looked NOTHING like what I ordered. I ordered a white cake with a cascading bouquet of flowers but they gave me this thing that looked like a tacky white hat with a vine of the ugliest most basic flowers (I ordered tropical ones). It was the ugliest thing I ever saw. They refused to do anything about it and the clerk was grinning at me like she knew it was wrong. I know they can make what I ordered, they have an example on the GD display. Never shopping there again. And the cake was nasty and gummy too.
