We were walking to crappy's and turned into a local shop. 4 people said no to crappy's and suggested bait house which was on my radar. Walked over and sadly they couldn't open due to power issues. Mike from bait house suggested Salt Cracker and he was spot on! From the beginning, the staff, the atmosphere, the food, and the scenery is top notch. Justin was a quick and efficient waiter. We caught fresh fish and brought one here to be prepared and it was wonderful. One of the two filets was prepared blackened and served soft tacos style and the other was battered and fried and served with tartar sauce and a huge side of coleslaw and fries. Definitely a touristy spot with their prices but flavors pretty good overall. Upon arrival the parking area is paid parking only which seems normal for this area of Clearwater. The ambiance of the venue is an open air right next to the marina. The concept of being able to catch a fish and have the restaurant prepare it for you is really cool! For appetizers we got the baked oysters and the ceviche. The oysters were delicious - perfectly cheesy and baked to perfection, great flavor. Not fishy or gritty at all. The ceviche also provided a great flavor and was devoured pretty quickly! For dinner we got the American red snapper, the black grouper and the beef and reef kebabs. The red snapper was yummy but a little fishy for my taste. The black grouper was probably my favorite, stuffed and served with the lobster gravy on top. So good - I wish I would have ordered this for myself! I ordered the beef n reef which had great flavor but only had three half dollar size beef medallions which was really skimpy in my opinion. For dessert, we got the banana bread pudding and which I was so excited for but was a little lacking in flavor. Probably wouldn't get this again. We went fishing on a charter in Tampa Bay that day. We caught some good fish and asked the captain. where is the best place to go? He said go to Salt Cracker. So with our nice fresh fish fillets in hand, we went here and were very happy with the service and the menu. As well as the prices! The food preparations were amazing! We had our red fish that we split between fried and blackened. I'm pretty sure it was the best blackened fish I've ever had in my life. The fried fish was amazing as well, as were the fries. The fam and I had a nice lunch at Salt Cracker Fish Camp. We sat inside on a warm and sunny day, and it was the perfect set up for our baby. I had the grilled grouper sandwich with sweet potato fries, hubby had the fried shrimp, and we split their homemade key lime pie for dessert. The grouper sandwich fit the bill, coming out hot and fresh. Hubby liked his shrimp and it was a good sized portion. The key lime pie was a huge portion; it could have fed at least 4 people. It was on the sweeter side for our liking, but still enjoyed how tart it was. The service here was impeccable. Our waitress was very friendly and even let us try their homemade remoulade sauce. They were perfectly crisp, soft inside, and packed with flavor. The remoulade added a creamy, tangy kick that made them unforgettable. The Cajun Mac and Cheese with andouille sausage was easily my favorite mac and cheese ever. The sauce was rich, velvety, and incredibly flavorful, with the sausage adding a smoky, savory depth. It was hearty, indulgent, and satisfying enough to be a meal on its own. The Low Country Boil was the highlight. Everything tasted fresh and perfectly cooked, and the broth was deeply savory, bold, and full of flavor. The seafood, sausage, corn, and potatoes all soaked it up beautifully. Every bite was delicious and comforting. For dessert, the chocolate flourless cake with vanilla ice cream was rich, decadent, and intensely chocolatey. Easily my favorite dessert of the night. So we chose this place because we thought we would be able to view the boat dock but they were still in the process of building it due to hurricane Helene so you don't get the best views. Really friendly staff! We had great service here. I appreciated seeing the manager walking around and working non stop: seating people, stopping by to check on tables, bussing tables. Seeing this alone, I knew we would have great service. The portions were large. We ended up boxing up half of our food. Our first stop on our weekend in the Clearwater area. We were seated outside and not the restaurant's fault, but construction started and we could barely hear each other, unfortunately we had to stay outside as we had our dog with us. We had a sunset schooner cruise booked for Sunday evening, 03/01 and had drinks at the bar here while we waited. The drinks and bartender were both great, unfortunately his name wasn't on our receipt so I can't recall his name. After our cruise, we decided to have dinner here. It went downhill from there. We were told there would be a 30 min wait, which was fine. We grabbed another drink and waited. After about 45 minutes we were finally seated. (There were lots of empty tables btw) It took a little while for someone to come and get our drink order, (not our waitress) So finally our waitress shows up and we order. We got the corn and jalapeño hush puppies, which were good. I ordered coconut shrimp, which was also pretty good. My boyfriend ordered the New Orleans Cajun pasta which was lackluster at best. It also came loaded with zucchini in it, which was NOT listed in the menu description, or he would not have ordered it. When our waitress came to check on us and ask about the food, he mentioned it to her. She didn't really say much of anything and we asked for the check. She proceeded to come back and rudely toss our check on the table and quite rudely told us she hoped we had a better night. Based on our receipt, her name is Zella I'm sure they get a lot of visits from tourists, so maybe they don't care if they offend people. Unfortunately for them, we are here for several months since my boyfriend is a GC with a rather large company who are doing multiple jobs in this area currently and will be doing more here in the future. We eat out a lot, but we definitely won't be back here. And word of mouth is huge, so you probably lost a lot of potential business from his co-workers, along with all of the sub-contractors his company uses. We could deal with sub-par food and would never blame the server for that, but her attitude is all on her. We ate here after a dolphin cruise in the same marina. Parking in the lot does cost but the fee is nominal if you get a parking code from restaurant. They offer a casual atmosphere with indoor and outdoor seating and some tables overlooking the waterway. The Dixie Garden Salad had fresh ingredients including corn muffin croutons and homemade dressing but the best part was adding a grouper cake on top, sooo yummy! We actually loved Salt Cracker enough to come back twice in the same day -- first visit for lunch was fantastic. Crispy calamari, stuffed mahi mahi, and oysters were all fresh and delicious. Great experience start to finish. We returned for happy hour oysters and ordered 5 shells plus a blackened grouper sandwich and a peachy mocktail. The sandwich was excellent. However, my wife found something crawling in one of her oysters after she dressed it -- what appeared to be a worm with legs that she described as literally standing up in the shell. When we flagged our server, her response was dismissive -- essentially telling us it was normal, that she eats them all the time, and questioning what we wanted her to do about it. My wife lost her appetite and stepped outside. We declined the dish. What really stung: the oysters were still on our check. We didn't make a scene and left a 20% tip, but being charged for a dish you sent back due to a live worm is not okay. The food here is genuinely good and we'd consider the kitchen a solid spot. But the server's attitude during the second visit (different lady) leaned pushy, and the handling of this situation left a bad taste. However, neither meal came with oysters at all. When we brought it to Marian, our waitress's attention, there wasn't much effort to fix the issue--no offer to bring the missing oysters, just a question about whether we wanted dessert. Honestly, we didn't want dessert... we just wanted what was supposed to come with our meals. To add to the frustration, the bill included a 10% "marine discount," which didn't feel meaningful when there was also a 3% credit card surcharge--and still no resolution to the missing items. The food we did receive was decent, but when key parts of the meal are missing and not addressed, it really takes away from the experience. During our recent vacation, we decided to experience the famous Sunset at Pier 60. As soon as it was getting dark we wanted to eat at a nearby seafood spot and stumbled across the Salt Cracker Fish Camp. Overall it was a decent experience. The location, place, service, and food were pretty good. My lady ordered a simple captains burger with sweet mash. I stuck to the script and ordered the Fillet mignon skewers and fried shrimp, with sweet mash and cilantro rice. All of the food was good. They also had a 2-for-$10 drink special, so we opted for the red sangria. The sangria tasted really good and you could taste the alcohol, so they were not watered down. On Avery busy night the hostess was very gracious and got us a seat pretty quickly in a spot for our elderly to enjoy (not close to music or high seats). It took a bit to get a waiter, but they were very busy and it was a lovely spot to sit and chat. The food options were many and everyone got some version of fish...my fresh caught group was amazing! The grouper cakes and pasta medley were also quickly eaten and I was told they had tons of flavor. We would for sure go back there as the prices were reasonable for the area and the food was delicious . One suggestion would be to park near the beach and walk over as parking close by was pretty pricey and scarce. It was a short walk from our hotel but our guests mentioned this factor. Took my wife there for a birthday lunch with her sister and friends. The food was fantastic all the way around. We were going to go to Roundabout Pizza at first because of the Baystar Group that owns Salt Rock Grill (OUR FAVORITE). When we walked onto the patio, I saw their large adirondack chair with the BAYSTAR logo and knew we were in for a treat. We ordered the 1 lb. Our family had the best experience here! We only had a 20 minute wait on a very busy Monday evening, which was amazing considering they looked very busy and a neighboring restaurant told us it would be a 50 minute wait. When they arrived neither of them had scallops. We informed our server and she said "Oh" and walked away. One of the main reasons we ordered those dishes was for the scallops. Also, when the Maui (catch of the day) came out it was 2 very and thin small pieces of fish. Both of which were dry and overcooked. There were about 5 small shrimp on this dish also.
