    16 oz. Swordfish Chop
    Tim G.

We decided to try out this place for dinner and had a nice experience! Many local friends recommended it to us. Expected dress is casual and the ambiance is laid back, pop/rock radio playing in the background. Parking is pretty chaotic, and you can expect the restaurant lot to be filled uo on busy nights, although finding street parking nearby is pretty easy. Service is fast and friendly, and the food is good for the price. Portions are also pretty generous too.

Hubby and I shared entrees. He had the filet, I had swordfish, scallops, shrimp. Together this made the best surf n turf I've ever had!!

We definitely will not be coming back. The Food: Lobster Bisque: Truly tragic and disappointing. It was essentially a bowl of flavorless orange soup with just one single, flimsy piece of lobster in it. Sticky Calamari: Completely missed the mark. The calamari itself was undercooked and served covered in a sugary mixture that lacked any depth. It was surprisingly bland despite the sauce. Raw Platters: We ordered two separate raw platters, but the kitchen combined everything onto one single platter without telling us. Because no staff member communicated this when dropping off the food, one person ate the entire platter assuming it was just theirs. The Service: The lack of communication was the biggest issue of the night. After our waitress took our initial order, she vanished. She never came back to check on our table, offer drink refills, or see how the food was. The plates were simply dropped at the table with zero follow-up. The only time she finally asked if we enjoyed our meal was when it was time for us to pack up and leave. The decor was simple for EG but very tight. Overall, a 2 out of 5 across the board. Between the mismanaged food, lack of flavor, and absent service, it wasn't worth it.

For the experience you get, the price point is reasonable and worth it. Our server (deckhand) was very accommodating and had a warm and eager to serve demeanor. He went above and beyond. The food...oh my God, the food was top tier. Beautifully plated and rich with flavors. The skill of the chef and their team really shined through. My cocktail was a blueberry bourbon smash which was fantastic. Starting with a beautiful and tasty beet salad and their take on Ahi Tuna wontons that really prepped my taste buds and appetite. Then moving into a Swordfish special with broccoli, mashed potatoes and grilled and spiced corn on the cob that was quartered into bite size pieces. Ending on a tres leches that brought me right to heavens gates all to end on a high note of a dining experience.

Our appetizers came out in less than 5 minutes, but our food took a little over 30 minutes. I'm aware the main course will take longer to prepare, but it was odd how fast the appetizers came out, so it raised our hopes a bit too much for the main course. My parents got red and white sangria. They were decent, but for $12 a glass it probably wasn't worth it. We got the brussel sprouts and calamari for an appetizer. The brussel sprouts were amazing, but the sauce made it a bit too salty. The calamari was also good, but I've had better, and it didn't even come with peppers. I got the blackened chicken with rice and carrots. The blacked chicken was amazing, I would definitely recommend that. However, the rice was extremely bland and the carrots weren't anything to write home about. My mom got the chicken alla vodka sandwich, which wasn't the best either. There was barely any sauce on the sandwich, and the little that was, was on the very side of the sandwich. She got truffle fries as her side which I thought were super yummy. My dad for the fish n chips, which was good. Overall, the dinner was fine. However, nothing is bringing us back for another meal. The server was very nice and attentive too. Honestly, I'd rather go to Blu on the Water if I was in the area for dinner.

Clam cakes were tasty, freshly fried, with lovely crisp skin but not much clam. Asked the nice counter lady to recommend the version of doughboy to try and she suggested original or cinnamon sugar. Selected cinnamon sugar on the side. The original, quite fluffy, was somewhat bland tasting. Dusting with cinnamon sugar elevated both texture and taste. The doughs were light with a beautiful golden brown glow. Rhode Island clear chowder (extra broth) was okay but could be better.

In my opinion, no trip to Oakland Beach is complete without stopping at Iggy's Doughboys & Chowder…read moreHouse. It's become a tradition for us. We usually have dinner next door at the restaurant, and before heading home we walk over to Iggy's to grab a box of fresh doughboys to take with us. Somehow there's always room for doughboys. One of the things I appreciate most is the consistency. It doesn't seem to matter how busy they are, the doughboys are almost always fresh out of the fryer. They're light, golden brown, and cooked just right. I've never had one that was burnt, greasy, or raw in the middle. They strike a nice balance between having a crisp exterior and a soft, fluffy center, and they're generously dusted with enough sugar to satisfy a sweet tooth without making a complete mess. The menu has plenty of classic Rhode Island favorites if you're looking for chowder, clam cakes, or other seafood, but for us it's always about the doughboys. They've become part of the ritual whenever we're at Oakland Beach, and it's one tradition we don't plan on changing anytime soon. The only reason I'm giving four stars instead of five is because this place is incredibly popular, especially during the warmer months. Depending on when you go, you may find yourself standing in line for a while. That's not necessarily a knock on the business because a busy restaurant usually says something about its reputation, but it's worth knowing if you're in a hurry. The prices are fair, the staff keeps the line moving as efficiently as they can, and the quality has remained remarkably consistent over the years. That's becoming increasingly rare. If you're spending the day at Oakland Beach and leave without stopping at Iggy's for doughboys, I think you're missing out on one of the area's best traditions. We'll definitely keep coming back.
