I came here on a whim since I was nearby and was looking for a light morning snack. I've heard about this place before and had seen many reviews about the custard filled donut holes on TikTok! I'm glad I finally got to try them. I came at around 8:20am. There was a good amount of premade custard filled donut holes on display. Despite them being prefilled and on display, the donut holes were still crispy and not soggy! I was delighted from the first bite. The prefilled donut holes are different from the regular ones. They are glazed and more similar to a cream puff which makes them super tasty. I love the irregular shapes of each of them and how big they were. The cream puff texture is what makes this custard filled donut holes not feel heavy when you eat them. Very yummy and addicting. The service was okay. I was greeted by both ladies at the counter and the worker who had assisted me seemed very attentive. I got a dozen cream filled donut holes which were 8.99. I would say thats pretty expensive but for about .75 cents per donut hole, i'd say it's worth it. The ambiance was okay but for a donut shop I wouldn't really say that matters. What a cute bakery! I have been hearing about their filled donut holes for a few days now, and made the trek from an hour away to try them when we were visiting family in the area this past weekend. D O N U T S They still had a variety of items in the afternoon I arrived and well they had the apple fritter. I was absolutely tempted to get my favorite donut (an old fashioned), but I prevented myself from buying more than the apple fritter. The apple fritter was $3 and I paid in cash as I had it on hand. I took this large apple fritter back home and took a bite. It was soft, yet crispy. Had a nice cinnamon taste as well as a tang which made it hard to stop. It was like sweet and sour. Perhaps they use a sour cream for their batter. They had small pieces of apples and crisp edges which was a bit dry but that helped with the crispiness. You do taste the oil but it is deep fried so I can't fault them for the oiliness. S E R V I C E Folks there were quite friendly and I easily paid and got my item in a quick manner! They fill them to order so they stay crisp and fresh, and I love how they're not super sweet. It almost has the texture of choux but lighter and airier. The lady at the counter is so sweet! I don't know what kind of architectural magic they put in the donut but it didn't get soggy in the fridge even after 2 days. There seems to be a change of ownership and the couple that runs the shop are super nice and always greets their customers. I've had bagels, donuts and coffee prices are far than its competitors. Came by on a Thursday afternoon and I was the only customer a good place to dine-in unlike the one in Milpitas with limited seating. Best to come by early in the morning since they're open at 4:30 avoid coming by late in the afternoon. Their mocha is top notch along with the donuts prefer custard holes are the best. Fast service and a lot of variations of donuts and lots of seats provided. The store is hard to ignore as it is in a corner next to tp tea. The old fashion is fluffy and reg french rolls are rly soft. Personally we think it's a bit pricier than reg donut shops, but we are happy to support local businesses. In my efforts to learn about my parents' journey I learned that my dad and uncle had managed their own Christy's with the help of the Donut King, Ted Ngoy. Particularly this location was one that my dad mentioned my uncle managed/worked at in the 80s. Plenty of seats inside and some outside too. Clean and simple decor! I'm really shy so I didn't really make too much interaction but when I came in there was a trickle of customers who seem to be regulars. The staff at the front who I think was a mom and daughter duo were friendly and welcoming. We ordered half a dozen donuts - my parents like maple bars, french crullers, regular glazed donuts so I made sure to get those. I also got donut holes and they had cream filled ones which are DELICIOUS. The dough was airy but had a nice texture and the custard cream filling was so good. I walked in at about 3:00 in the afternoon, expecting the donut cases to be mostly empty. But I had heard this place was really good, so it was worth a shot. As soon as we walked in a very cheerful woman behind the counter greeted us and then a gentleman who was in the kitchen area also greeted us. I picked out several donuts - there were still plenty to choose from, and some donut holes and the entire time the friendly lady made me feel so welcome. I must mention that their French filled donut holes were so delicious! I live over an hour away but I am eager to come back. I honestly have to say that they were a ray of sunshine in my day. Although I didn't eat my donuts there I did notice that they're seating area was very clean and looked comfortable. I was in the mood for doughnuts this morning. So I headed to my neighborhood doughnut shop. I love that's there's plenty of seating available to sit and enjoy some coffee and doughnuts or a breakfast sandwich. On the weekends there's always groups of seniors sitting and talking and just enjoying themselves. There's really not to many spots left where they can meet. I came here to try their famous custard donut holes-- drove 25 mins and bought a dozen to go. I agree with some of the reviewers about them "up-charging" 1) they charge almost $2 extra to put it in a box 2) $1 extra charge to pay by credit card I took a bite and the custard donut hole was stale, dry, thin (not fluffy) and barely any custard filling. I was disgusted and walked back and told the guy about my experience and asked kindly if I can get a refund. He said "no" in anger and said " you should've came earlier for fresh donuts" LMAO. I usually don't go to San Jose very often but I happen to run an errand down there over the weekend. I remembered hearing about Christy's Donuts and put swinging by there at the top of my list. I didn't buy any of the regular donuts which I should have. I ordered 5 dozen of the French Donut Holes. There are three flavors: Custard, Raspberry and Lemon. They only sell the flavors in a minimum quantity of a dozen. I bought a dozen custard filled donut holes and my brother ordered a dozen of the raspberry filled donut holes. We traded a few donut holes. The donut holes are large, light and fluffy/airy. I liked the custard the best. The raspberry are good but definitely sweeter. I plan to try the Lemon Donut Holes and some regular donuts on my next trip. I wanted boxes for the donut holes for my friends and found out to get a box, there is a 2 dozen minimum otherwise you get a paper bag. I ordered 2 dozen of the Custard Donut Holes to get them boxed up The Owners were very polite and nice. I will definitely visit Christy's Donuts again. read more
