I don't know why I keep bothering myself coming to this place, maybe because it's the closest coffee shop to where I work? They "really" take time to make your drink. So, expect slow turnaround time. And the outcome is at best similar to your local Starbucks. Sometimes even more tasteless. I'll given them that the bake goods are good, after all, they start as a bakery. In my years of experiences, they messed up with your names, messed up with your order. They're friendly and chatty; however, I'd prefer them paying more attention to what item I actually order. Not all staff are friendly. Personally I prefer Evoke for the best tasting espresso drinks in the area. It's difficult to want to patron this place knowing the staff isn't friendly to everyone - only regulars, but it's hard to be a regular if their drinks are okay and staff isn't friendly. And pastries? Usually taste stale unless you get them first thing in the morning. The employees at this location are extremely rude. I live right around the corner from this shop and have tried to go in a handful of times to give this coffee shop the benefit of the doubt but the staff are so rude that I will never make that mistake again. They all have a very entitled attitude and treat their customers very poorly. I've seen them be rude to other customers in line, not just myself. The Stumptown coffee on offer is one of the best out there and the selection of pastries is mouthwatering. I was lucky enough to be staying down the street from this bakery and stopped in for some coffee and a pastry one morning. The first thing I felt was major anxiety - I literally wanted to order one of everything behind the glass because every single item looked absolutely tantalizing. They had unusual flavors I'd never seen before, both sweet and savory. From cookies to scones to croissants and more, their baked goods are a true feast for the eyes! I was especially interested to see how many Japanese inspired items there seemed to be, with a lot of green tea and red bean flavored things. Asian bakeries are my favorite thing in the world so I got super excited by this! I finally chose a savory croissant and was very happy with my choice. I was also very happy to see that they had almond milk for my coffee! My only complaint was that the whole process took a really long time - maybe they had fewer people working that weekday morning than normal? But standing in line allowed me to get some local tips from others waiting with me, and the people behind the counter were all so friendly, it was hard to be mad. I would absolutely come back here on my next trip to Seattle, and in fact if they decided to open a location in LA I'd make it my personal mission to spread the word far and wide about how delicious it is here! read more

I need to quit hanging out with people that like baked goods/dessert. I've never been too big on sugary stuffs but this last year (minus 2 months doing a clean-eating challenge) I've been into bakery after bakery! I hope it doesn't start showing in unfortunate places... Fresh Flours reminds me of a larger Capitol Hill Stumptown in layout. It's nice, and more airy in here. They display their sweets in an appealing way too. I've had an Americano here and a rice milk latte, which was fine. The guy that has poured my coffee each time is warm and friendly :) The thing that I've flagged here before is that they sell macarons. (I know, when is the craze going to end? I hope...NEVER.) The Earl Grey macaron is delicious, but WISH that places would quit pairing flowery, elegant flavors like Earl Grey and Lavender with CHOCOLATE. Chocolate is too strong as a filling for them! I promise that if places made Earl Grey and Lavender--with like filling--they would have an appreciating consumer. But, one thing: the price is all off to me. $1.70, and they are mini macarons. Take Cupcake Royale's cupcake. Hold it up to their mini cupcake. Now do the same with a typical-sized macaron from anywhere, and then Fresh Flours'. Yeah... The Green Tea one didn't taste like green tea, but was still pleasantly sweet. The Green Tea cookie was great in that it tasted like green tea! Very pronounced! But, it wasn't sweet enough. But I'll go to bat for their green tea pound cake with adzuki beans. That, my friends, is a delight-and-a-half. All in all, I can't say that I would make this a regular stop for my usual macarons, but check it out. They are nice peoples :) read more

Really love their pastries - they have some savory pastries which you don't find too often around the area as well as amazing sweet ones. There's a huge variety - some were small fruity shortbread pieces and others were close to cronuts. Sorry for that strange description. We had someone bring them in so I'm not certain on the price - I may have to alter my review accordingly but it tasted great! A friend told me that their coffee is great as well. This place is awesome and I'm going to be bummed when they move out of Ballard to go to S Lake Union. First off, I love this bakery's name as it reminds me of that scene in "Stranger than Fiction" where Will Farrel's character brings Maggie Gyllenhaal's character a box of flour! With that little factoid out of the way, I admit that I almost *always* pop by Fresh Flours when my boyfriend and I ride our tandem to the Ballard Farmer's Market to get their delicious green tea cookies. The sesame cookies are also yummy, slightly sweet, with a crumb similar to shortbread. They have delicious savory scones as well that would pair nicely with a hot herbal tea. I've yet to try the more decadent offerings from them but I'm sure it will happen sooner than later. The only reason I'm not giving them 4 stars is because the customer service is hit-or-miss and totally depends on who you get. If you do pop by on weekends it can get a bit crowded, which may explain why service can be spotty. Overall it's a place I stop by when I'm in the area, but not a bakery I'd specifically seek out. read more

It took frequent trips to the Ballard Sunday Market to notice this place. The line was long, so I jumped in to see what the deal was. As I got closer to the counter I realized I was in carb and sweets heaven. I wanted to try something different, so I gazed over the freshly baked good until I got to the macaroons. They had about 6 different types, so naturally I had to try them all. I really liked the earl gray, passion fruit, and green tea (I love green tea anything) macaroons. The lines might get long, but they move pretty fast. They also serve up heartier, savory eats, like soups and salads. Stop on by for a bite! read more

The best coffee we had in Seattle! This is a really cute little café with high quality drinks and baked goods. In addition to my latte, I also had regular coffee, both excellent. Breakfast was a ham and cheese croissant, flaky and crispy on the outside, soft and chewy inside. It was a very generous portion as well. I grabbed a freshly pressed bottle of apple ginger juice to go. What a great combo! I am hoping to find it somewhere in St. Louis now.... I am seeing that many folks think it is overpriced, but we got coffee, a latte, two breakfast dishes, and the juice to go for under $20. Not bad, in my opinion, especially for the quality. read more

Love the food-sweets! Lack the customer service! I spent a fall afternoon browsing in Ballard when the day's special caught my attention: London Fog latte! Earl Grey tea poured over hot steamed milk it was frothy good with a light tea taste. I waited in line for about a good 10-15 minutes (there were only 2 people ahead of me after all) After the barista finally got through with the first two customers he finally goes in on making himself a drink...........ooook. That aside there are plenty of really yummy tempting cookies, pastries, green tea sweet breads that made me drool with temptation! Handmade sandwiches and mini quiches line up too. Started out my long New Year's weekend with Fresh Flour and I was impressed. I was trying to introduce a newbie to Besalu but, alas/of course, they were closed. We ended up at Fresh Flour for croissants and coffee and I'm so glad we did. Such a lovely interior, though it can get super packed on weekends. If you can snag a seat, it's a nice spot for peoplewatching, especially during the Ballard Market. As for food, I was tempted by so many of the french and fusion treats. Presentation was lovely, very fitting with the cozy atmosphere. We settled on ham and cheese croissant, pain au chocolat, and bacon mozzarella quiche. Although the cheese in the ham and cheese croissant was a little ropey, when warmed up it was so delicious, especially during the cold weather. Pain au chocolat was certainly above average, particularly the light, flaky interior. Quiche crust was great but the filling was truly stellar. Bacon and mozzarella flavors studded with fresh tomato bits. Fresh tomato that tastes like tomato in December! Love it. Stumptown coffee always gets my vote and the barista did a nice job on the latte pulls. He was very chatty and welcoming during my visit, asking about my plans for that day and dishing on Ballard news. Next time, the jewel toned macarons. read more

I have been into Fresh Flours before during the market but it has always been so busy on the those days that I never really had time to enjoy it. So having an extra day off the my friend and I walked a few miles around Ballad in the morning with the idea in mind to getting something as we headed back to her place. So a light breakfast was in order on this morning. As you walk in the pastries lined up look amazing. I can tell you from first hand experience they taste as good as they look! We decided to split three of them, Spinach and feta croissant, peach danish and a chocolate croissant. To add to that two cups of Stumptown Americanos and we had a lovely morning breakfast. The dough on all of the pastries is so well made with layers of buttery goodness. The spinach and feta combo is a great savory treat, the peach with a sweet cheese center was a refreshing surprise and the chocolate was a great way to end out little fest! Great place! read more

Went to Fresh Flours today after walking around Ballard alone for the first time. Nice, quiet place and was not too busy when I got there. There was a sign saying they had the best green tea latte next to the door so that was the first thing I got. The one barista/salesman there made it while I looked at the pastries. I would have to say I was a bit disappointed with the variety they had when I got there. There wasn't as much as I thought there would be by seeing the other reviews and pictures on yelp. I was expecting to get a peach Danish but there wasn't any. :( However, I did get three macarons and a chocolate croissant. The macarons I got were matcha, yuzu, and earl grey. All are some of my favorite unique flavors. I was pleasantly surprised to see yuzu there since it isn't very common in the area and I love the Japanese citrus fruit. The yuzu macaron would be my favorite, it had some candied yuzu bits in the cream and was pretty sweet. Early grey was delicious and green tea was not bad. The green tea macaron along with the (not the best) green tea latte were both lacking in green tea flavor. Maybe I'm too used to it, but I love a strong matcha flavor, and the latte was not sweet enough either. The chocolate croissant was flaky, but I would prefer it warmed a little so there is more softness in the layers and the chocolate. A little lack luster for the 'best' green tea latte and the macarons are a bit pricy but they are made well. I would probably just go back for some yuzu ones though. read more

I stumbled upon Fresh Flours, the bakery, while strolling Ballard and instantly had to try it out. I loved their Phinney Ridge location- so why would I not? The space is industrial and raw- very old Ballard- but with smiles and tasty treats. There were a few small tables for sitting, and baked goods and coffee for sale. I selected an almond croissant to-go, and I was delighted to discover that it is one of the best I have had. The almond paste to pasty ratio was delicate and flavorful. The taste and texture were well developed. The crisp deep brown parts of the pastry were so well cooked they were almost caramelized. My oh my. I had no idea what I was getting into when I came in here. I just wanted a cup of coffee but the second I saw all of the pastries I knew I was in trouble. I try to stay gluten free so I knew there was not much for me to try, so I asked the guy at the counter if they had anything gluten free. He informed me that ALL of the macarons were gluten free!!! So I bought six and I ate them all. The green tea, earl gray, and espresso caramel macarons were to die for. The raspberry and chocolate were okay, but not as good as the others. I was feeling impulsive after lunch, so I stopped in for dessert. I was feeling picky, but the instant I saw the flourless chocolate-rosemary crinkle cookie, I knew we were meant to be. That cookie has got to be the best cookie I've ever had, and I've had a lot (but I'm not a self-proclaimed cookie aficionado). It was ooey, gooey, powder-sugary, and oh-so-chocolatey. This small and cute cafe is exactly the place I'd love to make a daily routine. It's quiet and has a chill vibe. There are a good selection of pastries, with a mix of Asian flavors like adzuki beans and green tea. The croissant was surprisingly light. Coming from SF where croissants tend to be crisper and darker, this was a pleasant change. Cold brew had no sour notes. I'll be back! I have tried varieties of their pastries, and I am a fan of certain pastries :) I am Japanese, and love the sweet Azuki bean paste, but I was not a fan of Azuki bean danish or the Green tea and Azuki bean muffins. I like Fresh Flours, don't get me wrong. The coffee is great, and the pastries, well, it's no Honore, that's for sure. But still, tasty enough. What irks me is getting overcharged for already pricey coffee. Maybe it was just an honest mistake, but I got an iced coffee with 2 shots in it yesterday, which should have come to just a little over 3 bucks, and got charged almost $4.50. Really enjoyed the pastry and the environment. I started going to the Beacon Hill location at first. But upon moving, I started going to the SLU location because it was closer to work. I am huge fan of Fresh Flours!
