The have some really fresh stuff. Im lucky to be in the area and stop by this place. The staff always remembers me. Oddly I really like the plain croissants, just plain. The best thing about Fresh Flours for me is consistency. without fail I know what baked goods they'll have when I walk through their door. There's never any of that awkward 'do they have what I want' looking around that comes right before sheepishly and sadly walking out empty handed. I've had a number of treats from here and all have been pretty exemplary of their various types. I've had chocolate and ham and cheese croissants. Light, buttery and flaky outer crust with a soft and tasty inside. Although I do wish the chocolate had just a little more chocolate inside... this is always an issue with a chocoholic. I've had green tea cookies and macarons here as well. The green tea cookie is a destination treat. If you love green tea flavored sweets then it's really going to hit the spot and leave you pleased. The macarons are a fraction smaller than their contemporaries and just a little bit more expensive but they are delicious and have just the right amount of firm outer shell and soft insides that I love. That little bit of a crack when you take that first bite may be one of the most addicting foodie sensations ever for me. I nearly always order an Americano with my snacks and it's made quite well as far as an Americano goes. Typically I'm passing through here on a weekday morning so I usually see the same people working the front counter. They are always on their A game; cheerful, friendly and more than willing to trade banter. After a few visits the dude working the espresso machine saw me finishing up my pastry order and asked if I was going to have my usual Americano. This was pretty impressive to me since I consider myself someone who blends in with the rest of the typical Seattle dudes so the fact he recognized me pointed to an emphasis on knowing their regulars... whether they've been life long or just starting their journey with Fresh Flours. FF has quickly become one of my required stops when I do my, almost weekly, exploration walks through Ballard. Maybe one of these days I'll actually place a 'dine in' order and chill out for a minute or two. I'm a huge fan! read more

So, I went back to this place and brought some friends with me - after bragging to them how cool the people were and how good the coffee was. We walked in and nobody seemed to be working here. After about 3 minutes, a woman comes out of the bathroom, does not acknowledge us and makes tea for some guy who is sitting down. She then does a couple other tasks, and finally comes over to us and asks us if we have been helped. She never smiled, never said sorry for the delay, and basically didn't give a spit about us. The coffee she made was sub par, but her attitude will keep me from running back there again for awhile. Bummer. read more

Great croissant and perfectly steamed milk in our latte. Look I know we aren't in Paris but this is pretty damn close, and guess what it's actually "open" more than 4 hours a week (Besalu, ahhhhem)... So you can actually eat here instead of say things like "darn it's Monday!" or "schucks it's 3:01pm no croissant for me...". read more

In a business trip daze, I walked into Fresh Flours and got an almond latte with a chocolate croissant. Both were exceptionally good and I believe the pastries are homemade! The croissant had a nice amount of chocolate (a lot) and the almond latte was incredibly smooth and frothy. Sometimes nondairy espresso drinks can be on the watery side, but this was expertly done (with Stumptown coffee, no less). The barista also put up with our large drink order without any problem at all. Can't wait to come back! read more

a mix of japanese with pastries - i love it! i wasn't expecting to get anything and saw a brioche filled with cream and azuki beans. i had to ask the woman at the bakery if i read correctly. i love azuki beans and have never seen them this way. so she warmed it up for me and it went perfectly with my coffee. they also had other Japanese inspired pastries. my friend got a green tea muffin where you could taste the green tea matcha. really interesting and those wanting to taste the fusion of Japanese flavors, try it out! read more

For many reasons, I prefer Fresh Flours' Phinney Ridge location, but this one is pretty good, too. The products are identical between the two places, though, and if you are in Ballard, you should do yourself a favor and have some black sesame cookies. read more

I wanted a cookie but as I was standing in line I noticed that there were flies on the cookies and other baked goods. Gross! They shouldn't have an open-air display area. That's why display cases were invented. read more

How can it take 25 min to get a latte and pastry? I didn't even ask the pastry be warmed. Two hard working guys aren't enough staff on a Sunday Farmer's Market morning. Get someone in there to do the dishes and warm food so one of you can stay on the register and the other can handle drinks. The coffee and food here are good, but not that good. read more

The food was good, but it was very hectic and disorganized behind the counter. They had also already run out of a lot of food even thought it was still pretty early in the morning. We were there on a Sunday morning, which is Ballard Market day, so I expected the cafe to be busy, but it was like everyone was on their first day behind the counter. Hello Fresh Flours -- Do you read these comments? Because there is a trend here -- complaints about the service. I visited the Ballard store yesterday, and there was a line around the counter of people drooling for pastries. Fortunately I was in the front, and it only took about ...10 minutes for me to get an americano and a piece of cake. JEEEZ people! No matter how good your product, customers won't wait forever. Hire some crack baristas with a work ethic, and make sure to schedule enough counter help during the Sunday market!!!!! Customers will leave happy and you'll make $$$! What a concept. read more

Oh, Fresh Flours...your proximity to Besalu and Honore is really quite unfortunate. Perhaps if you lived in a small town as the only bakery you would be a shining star. But, here, in Ballard, your star fades next to the brilliance of the aforementioned bakeries. I recently stopped in at FF after driving to Besalu - CLOSED for the holidays - and then to Honore - CLOSED for the holidays - when I remembered I had heard this new place had opened up on Ballard Ave. I had to have my croissant fix. Oh, what a disappointment!! I bit into the croissant and immediately knew it was nothing compared to the warm, flaky, buttery deliciousness of a Besalu croissant. It tasted like a Starbucks croissant - blech! I took the second half if it home and popped it in the toaster oven, which did improve it, but I still felt like the calories I had consumed were wasted. Next time, I'll tough it out and wait til one of my two favorites opens back up to get my fix. read more

Intense YUM tucked away amidst the new condos and construction. I came back for the perfect Breve and the insane Twice Baked Chocolate Almond Croissant. I also tried the citrus macaron (surprisingly perfect in flavor, but slightly smaller than hoped. Finally I had the gluten free Double Chocolate Cookie. Seriously good. I think the prices are fair/comparable. I withheld a star only as it is not a cozy place to stay and sip. For sure there is room to sit, but pretty minimalistic, which is fine, especially if you just want to enjoy your treats in a quiet space!!! Finally for a bonus, Christina was very kind and welcoming and remembered me and my order from the day before after having never been before. That is great customer focus. Thanks!! read more

Really top notch place for people watching while going to the Ballard Farmer's Market, if you are lucky enough to score a seat.

A very nice selection of tempting sweet and savory goodies in a charming ambiance with friendly service and reasonably priced. I ordered the ham and cheese croissant. The croissant was very good! The one disappointment was that the croissant was not heated enough for the cheese to melt. I would have preferred it if the ham and cheese was more spread out rather than one small square in center and maybe would have heated better if more spread out. However, even though I am normally very picky about my cheese being melted, I still ended up thoroughly enjoying it because the croissant itself was delicious. Great spot, I will definitely be back. read more

Easily four star quality for the food, but a little pricey. The Egg and Cheese breakfast croissant was delicious, though it may have had the saltiest egg patty I have ever consumed. However, that's not to say it wasn't a guilty pleasure for me, as I love salt. The reason I'm docking a star is because I don't think the place is a great value. The price for a chilled brew and the croissant was just shy of $10! The atmosphere was decent, but not life-changing. Overall, it's fine if you're meeting someone, but alone, I probably wouldn't venture forth. I would say it fares closer to the side of yuppie on the hipster-yuppie spectrum. read more

This place is ok. I am not sure if I had too high of expectations or what-- but I was expecting better. The food is alright. I had the turkey and goat cheese sandwich which was ok, the croissant was hard but flavorful and the goat cheese really over powered the rest of the ingredients. I also order a green tea cookie that was pretty delicious. The set up of the cafe space is very nice and I give an A+ for music. Yet, with that I am not sure if I would go back. I work right across the street from this place and I been here about 5 or 6 time. This place is super cute and the pastries are good too! The only thing I don't like about this place is that they are SLOW when it comes to making coffee omg! I just got back from here and I went on my break of course for some coffee and it too like 10 minutes for 3 vanilla lattes. If you're short on time I would suggest going across the street to the other coffee spot or Starbucks. read more

I just tried their chocolate croissant the other Sunday after my hair cut with Scott at Vain (watch out style world, he's the epitome of a hair artist). Walked in expecting the typical European style pastries, so was pleasantly surprised to find yummy, unusual Asian treats (in addition to the standbys). I tried the black sesame shortbread (so good!) and the green tea/adzuki muffin (not too sweet and a good green tea flavor). Wow this place is awesome! Their green tea latte is the best tea drink I've ever had. Normally I think tea related drinks are too weak, but they really extracted the flavor from the green tea leaves. I got admit, I love Stumptown coffee and the barista's at fresh flours never seem to disappoint. I have been going to the Ballard and FINLEY Ridge location for years that I needed to check out this location when I found myself in the area. The outdoor seating is amazing and of course, they still have treats for my pooch which is a bonus. I've had to be read for a while now which makes me so sad because their pastries are amazing, but, they do have a couple of small gluten-free bars when I need something to tide me over. read more

The coffee here is incredible. Seasonally they had this honey lavender latte that is so good! They're very accommodating with several different kinds of non-dairy milk alternatives. I also highly recommend their lavender lemonade alone or mixed in an Arnold Palmer... so yum! read more

This little gem of a coffee/pastry shop has some of the best croissants and quiches I've had outside of Paris. The coffee is always excellent and the service always friendly. Seating can be a little tough if you get there during a rush and the plastic chairs aren't the most comfortable, but that's a minor personal complaint. read more
