I love the service, I love the price of the coffee, Honestly I love everything about this place. The coffee is always on point and the staff is super friendly. Don't forget to grab a banana bread either, legit 1000/10 super soft and not to sweet. The donuts are really good too, which makes it even better when you want a little sweet treat with your drink. Came in around 9am on a Saturday and they still had plenty of variety. The line went very quick. Got the original glazed, maple bar, and chocolate sprinkles. I enjoyed the glazed the most, it was the lightest and airiest out of the three and the glazed wasn't overly sweet. The maple bar had a solid flavor throughout and was the fluffiest. Just wanted to post a quick warning about this shop: Check the amount being charged for your donuts and coffee, etc., and make sure you are getting the correct change. I had a frustrating encounter with one of the women that works there, who either couldn't count, or was intentionally trying to rip me off, by repeatedly not giving me the correct change. It was not a large amount, so I left with $1 still owed me. Ever since then, I have not been returning with the frequency I was going there prior to this incident. Came to Communal coffee and stopped by Golden Donut for a quick sweet treat. This is your typical local donut shop, no frills, quick service, no instagramable content but solid, tasty donuts. I got a dozen donut holes for $3.50 and a maple bacon donut. The donut holes were solid but pretty unremarkable. The maple bacon donut had a great texture and had a ton of maple glaze and bacon on top. Neither were too greasy, and the oil did not taste funny. Overall this is not my top donut spot in SD but it is definitely one of the stronger ones. Definitely more my style than flashy places like donut bar or sidecar. $10 credit card minimum. read more

What a treat! I'm a sucker for glazed donut holes. I was treated to several donuts from this long time donut establishment and it did not disappoint. Love this place. A recent hyperfixation, specifically with their croissants and Vietnamese coffee. Love that I can stop early before 7am before work if I need a coffee to charge my day. The Vietnamese coffee is strong. Strong coffee flavor, light on the sweetness compared to others I've had, which is exactly what I'd want for a regular/work day. I've tried both the sausage/jalapeño (a hot dog, not a breakfast sausage like I was envisioning) and the ham and cheese croissant. They're huge, good for 2 servings for myself. Have it warmed up to melt the cheese, mmm. Both so good, flaky and buttery. Bought 8 donuts to bring to work, a Vietnamese coffee for myself, and a croissant. Total came to 26 or 28. Pretty reasonable. Donuts were fluffy, doughy, perfect and just how I like them. The jalapeños are cut up pretty small which I personally liked. I usually order the bacon maple donut which is also so delicious. Finally, wash it all down with their iced coffee. Initially, I didn't LOVE Golden Donut. It just felt like another donut shop. It was good. Now that I've been in SD for a few years and have lost count of how many times I've stopped by Golden Donut for a quick treat and Thai tea, it feels like one of my all-time favorite donut shops. Is it the kind of ultra-trendy, Instagrammable donut shop with crazy flavor combinations and toppings piled on every donut? Nope. This is your classic shop with all the traditional options. My first visit didn't feel memorable; they were good donuts, better than Dunkin', but I think I wanted the razzle-dazzle from some of the more gourmet donut shops in the area. Now that the novelty from those shops has worn off, I don't want extra sugar piled on my sugar dough. I really want a classic donut most of the time. I can never leave with just 1-2 donuts from Golden Donut because I know I'll want more later. They have become my standard of comparison to other traditional donut shops, and they win (almost) every time. They have a parking lot if you're not walking from the surrounding neighborhood. The prices are good, and the donuts are fantastic. Service is fast and friendly. If it looks like there is a line out the door, don't worry about it because only a few people can fit in the shop at a time. read more

Alright now I understand why people have been raving over this spot on Yelp. Early on a Saturday afternoon we decided to treat ourselves and grab some donuts. We came across this spot and figured we would give it a shot and we will 100% be back very soon! It is a small spot but with a counter full of delishness. We definitely got more donuts than we needed and don't holes which of course we finished on our drive back home. They have a variety of drinks in the fridge as well as fresh coffee.
