I've reported this office to the Dental Board of California and the BBB and I highly suggest anyone else with a billing complaint do the same thing--and, judging by the negative reviews, there are quite a few. Are the dentists and hygienists amazing? Absolutely. Unfortunately, the billing department is horrendous, deceptive, dishonest, and all-around appalling. Like others have said, they lied and tricked me into authorizing services based on a small dollar amount they promised I would owe, which was vastly incorrect. Each conversation I had with staff following the incorrect billing amount resulted in inconsistent reasons, assuming I could get a response at all. I was a patient here for nearly 12 years and genuinely loved my dentist. When my insurance changed this year and they became out-of-network, I called billing on January 26th to confirm expenses for OON since paying a small fee might have been worth it to stay with my dentist. They took my insurance information and said they'd "run" it and call me back with a dollar amount. On January 29th, they called back and confirmed I would owe $0 for my exam and cleaning. I specifically reiterated this and they confirmed. At my February 11th appointment, when I found out I needed my 5-year x-rays, I told my hygienist I couldn't authorize them without knowing my cost given my OON status. She went to billing, returned with "$38" written on paper, and confirmed billing had verified it. I authorized solely based on that number. Then I received a bill for $254, which included fees for the cleaning, exam, and more than $38 for the x-rays. I immediately paid $38 online and left the remaining $216 unpaid. When I disputed it over the phone, Yesenia repeatedly said "services were rendered" and then claimed staff CANNOT give a dollar amount I'll owe and have NO way to do so. Yet they had. Twice. I explained this, and that I can't be held accountable for staff making mistakes, to which she explicitly repeated "services were rendered." I asked to speak with a manager who acknowledged the mistake, saying staff should never have given me a cost and that they can't, but that only my dentist could waive the balance. She promised a follow-up that never came. When I called back myself weeks later, a third staff member, Gabby, had no knowledge of my previous conversation and completely contradicted what the first two had told me. She stated that the staff had given me an "estimate" and it was my insurance's problem to resolve. (It isn't my insurance's problem. They covered 100% for my exam and cleaning and 80% for my x-rays. The problem is the billing department billed ABOVE that coverage limit and lied about what I would owe in order to get my money.) I told her that the manager a few weeks prior told me staff should NOT have given me a cost at all and that I was awaiting a bill adjustment decision. Gabby repeatedly responded with, "we gave you an estimate" and had no interest in listening or following up with the manager. As I was currently in the middle of a big life change, I couldn't afford to be sent to collections, and I paid the deceptive $216 I shouldn't have owed. I let Gabby know I'd be filing complaints. There is a very common thread in the 1-star reviews here and I beg people to listen. The billing department is filled with deception and a lack of empathy. Had they been honest from the start and told me that they couldn't give me a dollar amount, I'd have understood and canceled my appointment, as I can't afford extra medical expenses of that magnitude. I should never have trusted these people. PLEASE FILE YOUR COMPLAINTS WITH THE DENTAL BOARD. read more

Extractions and root canal, etc. I see previous reviews saying they over diagnose so they fixed my pain and I got a second option. Dr. Julian had one of my molar crowned. After that procedure, she said I needed another 3 to 4 of my molars crowned. I havent had it done those next procedure coz my insurance changed & needed to see another dentist. My new dentist told me I dont need a crown coz all of my molars are perfectly fine. I felt bad on one of my crowned molar which a filling should have fixed it instead of spending hundreds for my crown out of pocket with insurance. Dr. Grabe and the staff seem really genuine and friendly. I think Dr. Grabe does great work. I had TMJ issues that really hurt my jaw and he was able to adjust my bite while I got my fillings done by him. Financially, you do need be wary. I got an estimate that was more than $1000 off ($1253 to be exact). I understand when you do an estimate that maybe $100 or so may be off but over a thousand seems like a major error. The financial assistant did not work with me, but mentioned that her supervisor will call me. I am hoping for a reasonable modification. It is important to be transparent with the patients as the lack of accountability and forthrightness can create a lack of trust. I am hoping the positivity and genuineness they bring to each of the patients is true and they can help will error. read more

I was excited to find that this dentist was open on Saturday so I made appointment for me and my husband. I came in a few minutes after my husband and told the receptionist I filled out the documents online. She sharply said no you didn't , I said yes I did I filled them out twice. She said no you didn't and I repeated myself. Another patient walked in she jumped up and handed him his paperwork mid conversation and proceeded to tell me I did not fill out the appropriate forms. I then began to tell her I was uncomfortable with that because I put all my personal information in documents online that the office could not find. Miraculously she found them did not say any apology and stated it was because the name was spelled wrong on their end. My husband was bothered by the way that the receptionist spoke to me especially in the mist of international distress. I probably should've spoke with the manager at that point but I didn't I just wanted to get my appointment over with. As we sat in the waiting room my husband told me how it made him feel to hear me being spoken to that way. He was called back for his appointment and it went fine I heard the dentist speak with him he was in the next room and the dentist was extremely nice. While I was waiting to be called back another person who came in the office without a mask on was seen by one of the dental assistants and the dental assistant told the front desk receptionist. The receptionist yelled to him from across the desk and said put a mask on. He Responded grumpy to her probably because the way she told him to put it on. After I was called back the service from the dentist was great and I left the office. My husband discussed with me that he was told very rudely to put on a mask by the same receptionist. He responded to her unfavorably and went outside of the office. I received a letter several days later that basically stated the dentist did not want us as patients. I called the office to speak with the manager never received a callback. At this time I still have not heard anything back and I would like for the office to hear my voice and both sides of the story as to why my husband reacted to that rude receptionist in that way. This Dental Location only wants to up sell you on items or services they provide. I called to schedule a cleaning and they focused more time on X-rays, and photos so they can schedule future procedures and did so without my permission. This took over an hour and the dental assistant was so frustrated they rushed through my cleaning and seemed to have taken out the frustration on my cleaning. It was an uncomfortable experience and I was really disappointed with the cleaning I received. Even more so with all the extra items I received on my bill that were placed on there without my consent. If you're looking for an affordable or pleasant dental experience this is not the place for you. I have been going here for 15 years, and I am just tired of the way they do things.
