This place is so crowded! When we arrived, all the tables were full and there was a line to be seated. My friend and I ended up ordering our food Togo and we thought the food was pretty solid. We ate our food 10 minutes after it was ready, but the bag was already disintegrating when we got home. The food was very moist, but that did not affect the taste very much. We got the grain bowl and the Friedman's burger. The grain bowl has a good blend of carrots, broccoli with a sizable piece of salmon. The sauce was yummy! The burger was perfectly cooked to medium and it was extremely juicy. The bottom bun pretty much turned into mush by the time we ate, but everything was great otherwise. We were exploring the Chelsea market and stopped here for lunch. The place was cute and our waiter was super friendly and attentive. There were a lot of options to eat in the market but we wanted a place with seats and a waitstaff. They have a good variety of brunch and lunch options. I ordered the avocado toast and it comes with poached eggs. I asked them to put hollandaise sauce on top and they did it no problem. It was tasty and I tried some of their fries and those were amazing. They were hand cut and had sea salt and rosemary. I also got a cappuccino and it was fantastic. While visiting NYC in June we are at this and several other of their locations (72nd twice and once in Time Square in the way to a show). All were excellent with great service. Now I have to add that we are Gluten Free and Friedman's will make almost everything on the Menu GF. (One of the owners is GF). We live is San Francisco now where you have to try really hard to get a bad meal, so our standards are pretty high. I have also worked in service and have no patience for bad service. Every time we went was great. This is not 5 star Michelin cuisine. But it is really solid New York Deli food (also should mention I am from NYC originally). The veggies were very fresh, and I'm sure they "hand-craft" their patties, but my burger didn't have much flavor. I rarely use the salt shaker (I don't remember when I did last time), but I had to add salt to my burger. The fries were not crispy at all. Service: Our waiter only took our order and brought out our check, nothing in-between (no "how's everything?" "do you need anything?," nothing). In Nov-2022 had chicken & Waffles and pastrami sandwiches around 10:30 am. C&W was fantastic(the waffle tasted like it had some corn meals) and PS was pretty good. NYC has many great pastrami sandwiches like Katz's that it was above average. Coffee was strong and the staff was nice and knowledgeable. This place was SO GOOD!! It's not too expensive for the amazing quality of their food and really large serving size. The atmosphere was really nice and the customer service was amazing. The waiters were really nice and funny. They made sure our glasses were always filled, answered all types of questions, and always checked in on us. The food came out really quickly and tasted amazing. I got the french toast and it was delicious. The berries were fresh, the challah was fluffy, the syrup was outstanding. On a visit to New York we stopped by Chelsea market for a midday stroll. Lots of the restaurants within the complex but Friedmans looked inviting so we decided to give it a try. My traveling companion said there were just a few things that he really wanted to see or do on his first visit to New York. One was have a traditional New York deli sandwich for lunch. On our last day in town we strolled the High Line from Hudson Yards to Chelsea so I suggested we try Friedman's Lunch at the Chelsea Market. Even though it was a very busy lunch hour we were seated quite quickly. Service was prompt and efficient though somewhat perfunctory. I expected a more extensive menu but all the essential and expected items were available -- everything from chicken matzo ball soup to a tuna melt to pastrami Reuben sandwiches -- and more. Though it was not an issue for me, Friedman's specializes in gluten free food. Everything on the menu can be ordered gluten free. Vegetarians will also find a number of meatless menu items. I'm not sure if anything is vegan though. I opted for Friedman's pastrami Reuben. The meat was piled high on toasted rye and nicely paired with melted Gruyere, some crisp kraut and Friedman's own Russian dressing. A tangy pickle and a pile of potato chips completed the plate. There were several gristly pieces of meat that I had to pull out of my sandwich -- but on the positive side this was clear evidence that the meat was freshly sliced from a perfectly cured brisket. I'm not quite sure whether Friedman's is exactly what my friend envisioned when he thought of a New York deli -- but whatever he envisioned, this I can say -- we were served an authentic New York deli style Reuben sandwich and it was pretty darn good. read more

First time coming here with my husband on February 16, 2022, we pretty much ordered the same except the chocolate pancakes, sprite and the lemonade. I pointed out that the salmon looks bad to the waitress and she told me that it was normal. The salmon had black/ grayish colored that didn't look fresh. I didn't feel comfortable eating it but I ate a very small piece of salmon that wasn't black or grayish colored because I trusted the waitress. I also tried to finished the salad. My stomach started to hurt and that ruined the rest of the day. I had the Chicken Matzo Ball soup. Such a huge difference when I had it in February. The size of the bowl I drank and ate from was smaller when I requested. The soup didn't have much ingredients like chicken and vegetables in it. When we ordered the pancakes, the waitress mentioned that the chocolate chips would be sprinkled on top of the Pancakes. Instead it was inside of the pancakes and on top also. It was definitely a chocolate pancakes overload. My child wasn't feeling well. The Cold brew coffee was weak. I don't recommend it. Overall, I wished I had a better experienced with my family. It must've been past 2pm but my group was only eating our first meal then. Someone in our group ordered Blueberry Pancakes ($16) which the rest of us immediately attacked. A deep purple compote sat atop a tall stack of fluffy cakes. Gorgeous, but looked better than it tasted. Disappointing that the protein sources in my Chicken Chilaquiles ($18) -- shredded chicken & scrambled eggs -- tasted a little off. I ordered the dish in spite of it being made with green tomatillo salsa rather than my preferred red salsa, which i didn't regret! The salsa didn't drench the dish which meant my thick tortilla chips stayed crispy throughout our meal. Looking back, my memory of our meal is better than it actually was. I was tempted to round up to 4 stars even though I wasn't thoroughly impressed with my first meal here & I wouldn't reorder the items I tasted. I think the friendly host & lovely waiter made a good first impression; the food looked delicious, therefore it should have been; & the general feeling of joy I felt from being with my group is making me remember fondly. Wasn't particularly satisfied this time around. Ordered a classic Friedman's Burger and an Eggs with Style platter. The restaurant was slightly busier than our last visit, but still, no reason for the poor service, especially towards the end of our meal. Maybe the chef felt that from the kitchen :3 Meanwhile, my sister's platter came with eggs, potato hash, toast, and a selection of either bacon, chicken sausage or fruit. She ended up choosing the chicken sausage. Contrary to my order, her potato hash was rather bland. Luckily there was salt and pepper on the side. The only upside to this meal was one of the waitresses. She was really nice throughout the entire dine-in and made sure we were comfortable with the food. When we placed our orders, she asked how we would like the eggs (for the Eggs with Style platter) and the burger (for the Friedman's Burger ofc). My sister also wanted to order a drink and was curious about whether their lemonade was sweetened, since she usually prefers her drinks without sugar. The waitress did let us know that the lemonade was pretty sweet and I'm grateful that she was so honest and transparent about it. Some people like to say that there's really little sugar in their drinks and it was nice to see that she didn't do that. Came for breakfast one day with a friend. My friend really likes this spot because she has celiac and is gluten free and needs to be careful about cross contamination. This hits the mark for her. I on the other hand just find it to be okay when comparing to other places in the city. She had a Mexican egg dish and I had a Benedict. I also had latte which was really yummy. Long story short, mostly everything was good. I came with two friends during happy hour after one of the guys I was with nixed eating at Los Tacos (frowny face). Their happy hour runs until 7 I believe, and there are a variety of drink specials including $5 draught beers, $6 wine, and $8 cocktails. The two people I was with both ordered beers, and I ordered a pumpkin martini - which was absolutely DISGUSTING, but to tell you the truth nothing about a pumpkin martini sounds good, I was just hoping to be pleasantly surprised. I liken it to throwing up from a post-Thanksgiving hangover. Most items on the menu are between the $16-$18 range, which I think is a little pricey but not awful considering the location. I ordered a burger and my two friends got sandwiches as well. I believe my burger was $17. The food came out relatively quickly and, frankly, it did NOT look good. However, where my pumpkin martini failed, the burger and fries succeeded - honestly, it was probably one of the better burgers I've had in the city, and actually cooked somewhat close to medium rare like I wanted it. It was flavorful and the lettuce and tomato were really fresh. The fries were incredible as well - crispy on the outside, perfectly salty, and warm and fluffy on the inside. My friends really enjoyed their meals as well. The service was fine, although nothing extraordinary. The decor/ambience is cool and rustic, which I liked a lot. And obviously the location is awesome. Total bill per person, after dinner and two drinks each, was less than $30. Relatively hard to beat that in the city. Overall, the food is really really solid, and Friedman's doesn't disappoint in other areas either. Although don't order the pumpkin martini - consider this your warning. I really, really wanted to give Friedmans a better review, but I'm just not able to. Located in the Chelsea market, Friedmans provides you, what feels like, diner/cafe style food. I ordered a Reuben sandwich, and my family had some banana bread with some scrambled eggs, and a fried chicken sandwich. I always love Reuben's but this one was really hard to eat because the meat was way too fatty. I felt like my jaw was going to fall off. The best thing about my dish were the French fries. They were seasoned well with some rosemary. At least those were easy to eat. If and when I am back in Chelsea, I will be trying another spot. read more

Today's Nova Benny at the Chelsea market lacked quality cooking. Mostly because the first layer, a layer of potato hash brown was over fried. Very oily and almost burnt crispy. Matter of fact, I asked the waitress if there was bacon in the Nova Benny as it seemed odd to be so crunchy. Then I realized it was the hash brown layer that was over cooked? Or it was a piece of hash brown that had been cooked and then refried a second time. Told the very kind waitress about it after I paid the bill she said she would go to the boss but then never returned to make any comment. Ordered this one dish for two of us to share and had planned on ordering a second item to share. After walking around the Chelsea Market late Sunday we dropped in here to have a late lunch / early dinner and our experience was a pleasant meal and time here. In fact, it was kinda terrific. I did not have any of the bad waiter experiences others have reviewed here, and we were more then satisfied with our food choices. I had a cup of the two bean turkey chili which was chunky and tasty, and the pulled pork sandwich which was slathered in papaya bbq sauce and pickled red onions on a brioche bun. Holy Oink! This was awesome. The pork was super moist and that bbq sauce was divine. The bun was soft and buttery. The sandwich was fat and did not skimp out. Just a perfect size for my appetite. Very tasty. Stacey ordered the Asian chopped salad - Napa cabbage, romaine, red peppers, carrots, scallions, cilantro, snowpeas, shredded chicken and wonton crisps with a hoisin peanut sauce. I kept eating off her plate as the dressing was terrific and the whole salad was very fresh. I was rewarded with bruised fingers from her stabbing me with her fork to keep out of her food! We were seated around 11:00 AM. I wanted a place where we could sit and be waited on and figured that we should find a place before the lunch rush. I ordered a Tuna Melt and my companion ordered pancakes. We then waited and waited. I notice that the tables on either side of us and across from us who were seated afterwards were served before us. Our waiter, who was very nice seemed to be having a difficult time. The food arrived and it wasn't anything remarkable. My sandwich came with Vinegar chips which tasted stale and had no crunch. A small, yet cozy brunch place tucked inside the Chelsea Market without wait time for a seat. Upon entry, there was section for take out orders. As we made our way through the take-out counter, we were led to the seating area in the back, which only seemed to have 10 tables meant for parties of two. Ironically, the bathroom was very spacious with room to fit two chairs. It was clean and had a nice scent too. Our waitress was friendly and attentive with water refills coming without our glasses ever being empty. We were never pressured on time (to order or to pay), which made for a relaxing 90-minute brunch. She highly recommended the Shrimp and Grits ($13), which looked very tasty on the table next to it. However, we already had our eyes set on eggs, so we ordered the smoked salmon eggs benedict (nova) and the Alaskan Brunch (two eggs any style, spinach puree, fried tomatoes, potato pancake, 7-grain toast with strawberry butter). The nova was excellent with (light) hollandaise sauce and smokey fresh salmon. The Alaskan Brunch was also light, however the spinach puree was a bit too salty. It was nothing memorable outside of the puree with the highlight being the toast and strawberry butter. Yes, yes, I know, shrimp and grits - should've, could've, would've. Brunch for two came out to be under $40 (including coffee and juice), which is relatively standard for midtown Manhattan or Chelsea. If you are in the Chelsea area, this is a worthy addition to your brunch list for a cozy, intimate setting, decent food, and good service. I wanted something healthy (for a change) as I felt my arteries were slowly clogging due to all the bad things that taste good that I had been eating. So I decided on a brown rice bowl with veggies and grilled tofu. The bowl was $9 and tofu was $3, which is probably more than tofu really needs to cost. The rice was ok, the veggies were ok, the tofu was interesting, as I have never eaten grilled tofu before, but it was also ok. Nothing too special for $12.
