I had an absolutely abysmal and unacceptable experience here today. I was sitting at the bar, placed my order, and had a drink. I got up to go to the bathroom. When I got back, there were people sitting in my seat. Instead of the server doing anything about it, I had to tell them they were in my seat and ask them to move. At this point, the man got absolutely belligerent with me. He was in my face, threatening to beat me, and saying vile, disgusting misogynistic things to me. I said absolutely nothing back to him, because I wasn't trying to get kicked out. I got my server and asked him to do something about it. The server watched as this man got in my face, cursing me out, and threatening to physically harm me. He didn't say or do not one single thing about it, or said anything to the man. The worst part? They didn't kick this couple out or do anything about it. They sat them. I got the manager, who proceeded to tell me he couldn't do anything about it. He refused to kick them out, and said he wasn't the police and couldn't do anything about it. What disgusting behavior from all the men working at this establishment who all watched me be treated like that and did absolutely nothing. Not even a word to defend me or tell him to stop. This place has one job: good deli food. It completely failed The reuben was dry and tasteless. The burger on the Amtrak train was better. I am not exaggerating. What more is there to say... there's zero reason to come here. As background, my dad lived in manhattan. Coming to the Carnegie deli was a huge treat. On a relative scale, the food is tragically terrible. On an absolute scale, two day old sandwiches at Safeway are better. read more

We found this diner right before going to the Empire State Building. It is a perfect sit down place for a group of 5. We were given a booth right away and the space is big. It is typical diner food that is so good and just hits the spot. We got a chicken sandwich, a turkey sandwich, and a regular burger. Everything was tasty and had big portions. Diner in the city right outside of the 32nd St PATH. The salmon benedict was ok, egg (normally a soft boiled, runny egg) was overcooked, but felt like the membrane was still on the egg... weird tough outside. Salad was ok, and the hash browns needed to be cooked a bit more. Service was prompt even with spilling water over the table while pouring at the table. Inside was clean and efficient process. It's a good place to look out at the rush in Herald's Square while you're having a leisurely breakfast. Located below the Martinique Hotel. read more

Came here most mornings when I stayed at the Martinique. It is fine. It gets the job done. Coffee is watery and service was slow and not very friendly at the cafe bar (no seating besides the lobby.) Pastries and sandwiches were overpriced and not very big. read more

We had a phenomenal breakfast at Carnegie Diner & Café. Located right across from Greeley Square Park, the view was lovely and the atmosphere quite than the surrounding rush of Midtown a great spot to ease into the morning. I ordered over-easy eggs with hash browns, sourdough toast, and fried greens. Everything was fresh, well-seasoned, and cooked exactly right simple food done flawlessly. My son went for the blueberry pancakes, which were incredible: airy, pillowy, and packed with blueberries, served with a charming little syrup bottle that just added to the moment. Service was fast, friendly, and genuinely attentive from start to finish. It's easily one of the best breakfasts I've had in years. Highly, highly recommend. read more

While staying at the Martinique Hotel I had the pleasure of dining at Carnegie. It was wonderful on numerous occasions. My favorite meal was the shrimp dinner. Succulent shrimp over buttery mashed potatoes with veggies. My husband ordered the chicken sub Brussels sprouts which was also a delight. We also got an omelette and ham and cheese croissant for breakfast, both were dynamite! I really don't think there's a bad item on the menu. read more

I come here 1x a week, I like the place, but I'm increasingly irritated because for whatever reason, whenever I order steak without butter on top, it always comes with butter in top - 4x in a row now, 2x at a table and 2x at the bar. We stay at the Martinique hotel when visiting NY and previously enjoyed the Press Room. When visiting recently we found it had changed to the Carnegie deli. The experience began with being unable to check in to obtain a table. Next, there was a long waiter to have our server take our order. The order was wrong-peanut butter pancakes rather than butter milk pancakes. They were out of orange juice! It was difficult to obtain coffee refills. They initially refused to give a to go cup for the first refill that came nearly an hour into breakfast. The food was mediocre with the eggs overcooked. Even though we get a Hilton honor food credit, we will not be returning. Poor food, poor service poor management. read more

This Diner was in the Martinique where we stayed. Very convenient to grab breakfast several mornings. We learned after the first day that the portion sizes were very large, so split breakfast on our next visit. The place is bustling, but the tables turnover quickly. We came here for brunch and it was absolutely delicious. We got the symphony breakfast and the blueberry pancakes, both of which were superb with plenty of food. This is my third time coming here. Waiters suck. Always get my order wrong. Seems to be a language barrier with a lot of the waiters.

We chose this place because it was close to Macy's and we had an 8PM Santaland time slot and could make a reservation. The only 2 tables offered to us were right by the door, it was cold, so my daughter kept her coat on. The service was not existent. Someone brought cups but no water. Someone else poured the water. Then we had a waiter who took our drink order. Then my daughter received her drink and we placed our order. The food came out relatively quickly, but then the server did not check on us at all. My teen daughter had her coat on and bumped her drink class and it spilled every where. I jumped up and asked the hostess for extra napkins and she brought us 2 napkins- so we had 4 napkins (our original 2) to clean up an entire glass of lemonade. The pile of soaking wet napkins sat at the end of the table, her drink glass empty. Nobody asked if she needed a refill or needed napkins. So we had no napkins to wipe our hands as we ate. The amount of corned beef on my Reuben was just wasteful- I can't imagine anyone can eat that amount of meat. The meat was not really warm, it didn't have great flavor- it was just ok. One of my pieces of bread was not even in tact. It came with an overdressed and wilted salad. The food was nothing special. It's the service I just can't get over. We sat with our pile of wet napkins, we were finished eating & just waiting for our check for at least 20 minutes while the server busied himself with talking to the bar tender, hostess, ignoring the other tables waiting for their checks as well. Then he went to one table, had to get boxes, dessert etc which all should have been done 15 mins earlier- it wasn't like all the tables were sat at once- he just chose to ignore his tables.. Then when he finally made time to bring us our bill, he stands there with his credit card machine that wants at least an 18% tip- for what ? it's really awkward to choose custom amount when they are staring at you. I am always a 20% tipper, but often tip 25% or more and giving him an 18% tip was painful- that's how bad the service was. read more

I came for breakfast and waited 25 mins to be seated and another 25 to see a waiter just be told they will not serve me because I have a peanut allergy. Wasted an hour of our time before a long trip home. If the policy is that strict, it must be boldly displayed before wasting our time. read more
