My coworkers and I were very excited to see Friends Coffee Shop announce their new banana bread latte on Facebook. We talked about it throughout Friday, Saturday, and Monday at work and even mentioned it to several people who came into our workplace, commenting on how appealing the new drink looked. On Tuesday morning around 8:00 a.m. I went out of my way to stop by the coffee shop to pick up four banana bread lattes so my coworkers and I could enjoy a treat together. An older woman greeted me and took my order. When I requested four drinks, she responded with "Four?" and loudly called out to another employee that she would need help. I paid and stepped aside to wait. Shortly after, while assisting the customer behind me, the same employee stated aloud, "We just took a large order and it's probably going to be a little bit of a wait." I was very taken aback by this comment. I did not feel that four drinks constituted a large order, nor did I expect it to cause a significant delay. The comment made me feel uncomfortable, as if I were being blamed for slowing down the store or disrupting the flow of service. The younger gentleman working was very kind and professional, repeatedly reassuring her that it was not a big deal and that everything would be fine. Unfortunately, as this is not the most convenient coffee stop for me, being treated this way made the experience disappointing--especially when there are nearby options like Starbucks or Dunkin' where service is consistently friendly and welcoming. Moving forward, I will likely choose those alternatives to avoid starting my day with unnecessary stress or negative interactions. read more

The drinks are ascending me into heaven. I've been coming here for years, and they've never disappointed me with anything, including the price. The staff is always nice, especially when my card was not working, and they tried everything, almost to the point of restarting the Square reader. The decorations are always amazing, especially upstairs in the venue. I highly suggest coming here if you want some coffee or ice cream while supporting small businesses. read more

I walked over here while waiting for the Christmas parade to see if they had any good food options for a small lunch. I noticed some cute women's clothing off to the right. Due to the parade the line snaked all the way around the side of the ordering station and I didn't get a chance to see the menu to check for food, but decided to get in line because there were a dozen people ahead of me already! There was a small dining room in the back near the kitchen with table seating and I could see that they had baked goods. Once I made my way around to the front counter I was glad to see that they did have three soups, which seemed like a perfect option for keeping us warm while we watched the parade. They also offered paninis and other food items. The soup options were chili, pumpkin, and chicken noodle. While I love a good pumpkin bisque, I wan't sure if this one would be a cream based version here or not, and something like chili with beef sounded great so I ordered two of those and a hot apple cider. Due to how busy they were, there was a bit of a scramble for the staff to determine the best way to communicate with the kitchen and get soup up to the counter, but they were on it. My apple cider came out quickly, and it was good although I wished it had been just a little hotter. Several minutes later my chilis were ready, piping hot and complete with crackers, spoons and napkins. The chili was homemade with lots of tomato chunks, celery, some beans and beef and it definitely hit the spot. The shop is family-owned and had lots of gift items, decor and clothing available as well as Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream. Their coffee brand was JBC Coffee Roasters. Available in the shop they had drinkware, Jewelry, teas, soaps, and pet supplies to name a few. When I got back to my parade post, I found out they were running a hot cocoa counter out of the back parking lot with a long line as well. If in the area I'd definitely stop back in. read more

Randomly found this place on yelp as we were traveling back to illinois. Soooooo good. Coffee and food both were fantastic. A bonus was the service and being able to order online and pick up on store so we didn't have to stop long on our 4 hour drive home! The two ladies inside that checked me out were incredibly kind and talkative! Highly recommend! Friends On the Square is always a great place to stop for coffee and ice cream as well as paninis, salads and amazing fresh baked pastries. I also always find unique, quality, and mostly locally made items to gift others or myself! My favorites are trendy, boutique clothes, local grown CBD products and local lavender products! The staff is so knowledgeable and kind and fun to chat with. In the summer, the bar out back has amazing ice cream cocktails and a casual and super cute patio to hang out on! read more

I love this place located in a historic building that has been nicely preserved Just discovered it this week with meeting a friend there for coffee. There is an adorable gift shop on the main floor, along with some seating, but there is also a big seating area upstairs which overlooks the square in Elkhorn. Many great choices of coffees and teas with alternative milks as well. And lots of yummy pastries and lunch items. Very friendly people as well! read more

They right away assumed that "the customer" was wrong when I said twice that I wanted my drink iced and still gave me hot and said "I asked you" and they sure did and I surely said ICED. They made the drink with like 1/3 of syrup and it was so disgusting I had to throw it out. I will never waste $8 of my hard earned money on such garbage coffee or rotten attitude "friends" on the square. read more

They serve chocolate shoppe ice cream (which is a delicious Wisconsin ice cream company). The ice cream reminds me of Ben and Jerry's because they have some interesting flavors with funny names. Cute shop that has a coffee house and ice cream shop on one side and gift shop on the other. A unique place that's open on Sunday and has more than drip coffee on order. Decent selection across the three, however the baristas are not "classically trained in the art" so to speak. Combining the ingredients is what they do best, but knowing the temperature at which milk burns or crafting the perfect leaf is not their cup of tea. What a wonderful place! We've been here twice now and will definitely return each time we come to Elkhorn. Our barista on the first visit was absolutely delightful and so helpful and supportive as we talked about alternative milk options. And they have yummy gluten free muffins (they keep them in the freezer and will microwave them to defrost). On our second visit, we met the owner who was great. We were impressed that she hired the delightful barista (even though not your typical Elkhorn resident ) Lovely people, good muffins, good coffee. read more

Oh my gosh, this place is so cute I could move to Elkhorn! We ventured there from Lake Geneva and found this little place to get ice cream After dinner. Part country store, part gift shop, part ice cream parlor, we settled down to a friendly checkers competition with our treats using their oversized game. The price for ice cream Was half of lake Geneva's, and so much more relaxing. In fact, we enjoyed it so much that we went back the next night. The only downside is that if many people come in at the same time, there's a bit of a wait. Love this place! read more

This place is really amazing, it really is. During the summer time, when I babysit, the girls and I enjoy coming here. Its our favorite place! The ice cream is good, there are board games, coloring books and markers, checkers, and a free play piano for the kids or whoever else wants to play. We spend a few hours here whenever we come.
