Let me preface this review by saying that I live in Houston, and therefore have high expectations for a Mexican restaurant. Fritangas met none of them. In retrospect, the presence of hamburgers (not on the kid's menu) should've tipped us off. But we let our stomachs lead the way and chose this place hoping to have the "best Mexican food in town," as another reviewer put it. Let's start with the chips and salsa. The chips were over greased and under seasoned. The salsa was so packed with garlic that I can still taste it on my mouth an hour later. It tasted closer to bad marinara sauce than anything resembling salsa. Then a momentary bright spot of the meal: the margaritas. It was a solid margarita with a fair amount of tequila in it. The strawberry margarita came loaded with fresh fruit on top, which was a nice touch. Next, the queso. Where to begin with the queso? It was served on a fajita skillet (cool idea) but the cheese itself was the consistency of Elmer's glue mixed with those string cheese packs you put in your kid's lunch. We sent it back to the kitchen to be reheated, but that only made matters worse. We found a fork and knife to be the best method of consuming it, rather than the expected spoon. Finally, our meals came. The fajitas were a surprisingly large serving with plenty of steak, but it was definitely missing the flavor I'd expect from that dish. The fajitas came with a large helping of quacamole, which was little more than a chopped up avocado. Now, don't get me wrong, I love avocado. But if you're gonna call it guacamole, at least add some spices to it! My brother-in-law had the burrito supreme, which was topped with Spaghettio sauce claiming to be salsa (but at least it wasn't overloaded with garlic!) The single best part of our experience was the service. We interacted with a few different servers, all of which were friendly and eager to please. That's honestly the only thing that bumped my rating from 1 to 2 stars. And now, I'm going to brush my teeth a few dozen times to try to did myself of that garlic taste from the salsa. Luckily my wife ate the garlic "salsa" too, so she has to let me sleep in the same bed tonight! read more

I have never had "Mexican food" that tasted so bad as I did at Fritangas. I ordered enchiladas suizas and had zero flavor, rice was uncooked and beans tasted like they came from a can. Service was awful as well. Not once we were asked if we needed anything, never refilled our drinks and they were not even busy!! Taco Bell is a delicacy compared to this place. Something must have changed here. I used to come here frequently and everything was delicious. Now it's the opposite. I payed 8$ for the smallest thing of cheese dip you have ever seen and it was absolutely flavorless. I'm pretty sure it was just melted velveeta. The cheese enchiladas weren't just not good, they were awful. The chicken chimichanga with rubbery chicken was somehow the best thing we got. I had to order a shot 6 times before finally going to the bar because it was clearly never going to come. Absolutely terrible service, we sat for 15 minutes before anyone came to our table. We just left Fritangas and I am very disappointed. I did not get what I ordered and when we brought it to their attention the waiter just said sorry and offered to go have a different plate made but we have been stopped in the road for 2 hours for a snowstorm and didn't want to wait on another plate to be made. After they knew our order was wrong we did not see that server again. Another one filled our water and brought us the check. My husband ordered nachos and they brought him a pile of chips with half of those were bare. No cheese. No beans. The cheese that was in the plate wasn't even completely melted. I ordered a margarita with the table placard that said $6.49 and was charged $10.00. No explanation. No offer to make it right. We travel through Silverthorne about once a month. Being from this county for many years, I have seen this little restaurant space change many times... Before Fritangas it was my favorite Chinese restaurant... Well guess what?!?!! The goodness lives on, we have been here a few times now and I must say that it is so delicious! I am absolutely in looove with the en mole! Best in the county that I have tasted yet!! Worst $60 I've ever spent. That's for 2 entrees and "queso" which was a joke. We arrived around 5pm and we're the first table there. Shortly after 2 other tables came in and were both greeted long before us. Finally our server came to the table after at least 10 minutes of sitting. We asked for drinks and ordered the "solo queso" which was just a melted brick of white cheese with no seasoning or cream to make it dip-able. Our queso came with some tortillas, but no plates and still no drinks or silverware 20+ minutes in to us being there. My husband had to go search for our server and ask for plates/silver/drinks. He ordered the $20 chicken fajitas and said they were decent but not worth $20. I ordered the #1 and the Chile Relleno was TINY. Nothing like the picture or like any other I've had. I tried to get white sauce on my enchilada so I could share with my toddler, but it came out dry with a side of sour cream which I was charged twice for. I asked the server who dropped off our food if I could get a side of sauce and she never returned. We never saw our server again after we ordered and we had to go find her again to ask for our check. I really like their Huaraches Alambre. The combination of meats along with the house made bean and maza huarache is soo good. Their chips and salsa is average. The salsa is more of a picante sauce, but very flavorful. The Margaritas are also an average mix but priced well. The service is authentic (hopefully you speak Spanish) and very attentive and friendly since the place is generally slow when I've been here. read more

I have tried the breakfast burritos. They are a big bang for the buck and do fill you up but I was not impressed with the taste & flavor. They do have a huge menu with a lot of authentic items normally not found in Summit County. The couple of times I was there most of the dinners were Mexican nationals so they are doing something right. Had dinner here. Told them that my 7-year old daughter could not eat her food because it was extremely spicy and it was not stated on the menu. They shrugged it off. Made me pay. I didnt want to start an issue. BUT Immediately after, I saw an upset customer and they tried to make them pay for an entree that they did wrong and the customer returned the food (without taking a bite). Eat here Saturday of Labor Day weekend at 2:00 p.m. took 20 minutes to get a drink and the place was only 1/2 full. Service was not good - I get it, there is a shortage of staff, I completely understand but it was the entire patio area that it took 20 minutes between when someone would come by. 5 stars for the hot wings, their extra salsas, and the service. The wings came out piping hot and were fried perfectly (just a little crispy on the outside). They were very generous with their homemade wing sauce, which is always a plus in my book. It was nice, thick, and buttery, but not too spicy. They also brought out fresh chips as soon as I sat down. When I finished the salsa, I asked if they had anything hotter. They have 2 salsas that they don't just put out on the tables by default. The hot one is a really nice smokey, chipotle flavored sauce, and definitely has a good kick to it. Very interesting experience. So it's national Margarita day the girl and I decide to go check out a new place on our tour for the day. This one pops up so we decided to stop in for a margarita. I picked the frozen strawberry which was absolutely delicious. She picked the house mark which is highly recommended through Yelp. Hers wasn't anything to brag home about. Food looked pretty decent we only had chips and suck down a little bit of salsa which wasn't the best. One thing to be careful of is the karaoke comes out of nowhere and it's hideous. I ate here a couple of times a few years ago and remembered it being pretty mediocre, which is about as good as Mexican food gets in Summit County. Came here again recently because I was craving some mediocre Mexican food and a margarita, and wow they've gone downhill. Menu says the margs are made with fresh lime juice but it was bright green and tasted like it came out of a slurpy machine at 7-11. The menu also lists medium and large sizes but when I ordered a medium they told me all they had was large. Huh? You can't put a medium in a large glass? First of all, the service is complete garbage. The server was checking her phone while she took our order. On top of that, my son had to ask for chips and salsa after sitting for about 15 minutes, in fact we got our food and we still hadn't gotten our chips and salsa. They sat another table and had the chips and salsa on the table before they even sat. When I approached the server about this issue and she acted clueless. I was furious. I visited this restaurant based on the Yelp rating. It's nice, but I was disappointed. I had to ask for drink and chip refills. Food runners stopped by our table trying to deliver other peoples' food. Seemed as if the staff wasn't well trained and kind of confused. They meant well, but not on top of the details.
