We're staying at the hotel next-door. Came in to see what this establishment was. So much history and so very interesting. The bar is from the early 1900s and the woodwork is very nice. Here you choose your own steak from a variety in the case. We chose ribeye. After you enjoy the salad bar, you take your steak to the grill and cook it yourself! I am a great chef at cooking steaks and so this was fun for me. You can add on sides like some veg or a baked potato if you'd like. You can eat as much salad as you would want as well. The service was really good and attentive. My steak was tender, juicy and delicious. The salad bar has lots of good stuff on it which includes some Texas toast that you grow yourself. Fun stuff. You get to pick out a steak of desired size that is displayed and you get to cook it. The grill been there for so long its seasoned well. What a truly unique dining experience. Housed in a historic former brothel, this restaurant has clearly stood the test of time -and for good reason. I've been to teppanyaki-style spots where you cook your own food, but I've never experienced that concept with American cuisine. They offer a wide variety of meats and seafood to choose from, and then you head to a large communal grill in the back to cook everything yourself, with plenty of seasoning options to customize your meal. It's such a fun, interactive setup and naturally sparks conversation with the people around you. Been coming here, I believe, since my son was 6. He is 40 now! Seated promptly and Nicoli was our server. She was friendly, attentive, and an excellent server. Salad bar has good tasting ingredients. The blue cheese dressing was too thin/watery almost, but tasty. The Texas toast with butter and garlic powder, slightly burnt, is always something I look forward to. 16 ounce NY strip was an excellent cut, I am a minimalist in terms of seasoning when the meat is good -- so just a little garlic powder and a little Worcestershire sauce for my steak. It's always a good time watching people put 12 things on their steak as they grill it, turning their meat 15x. Just a 1 1/2 minute char in each side and 5 minutes a side in a hot part of on hit part of grill, with just a bit of flame. Perfect medium rare and a charred exterior. Yum! Sides good too - French fries, broccoli, and baked potato. Excellent Pinot Noir, that Nicoli picked out. Large pour! Great meal and fun at the grill. Place is cozy but can get really crowded. Thank can be a variety of steaks that are offered, shrimp skewers, tuna and a few other options. All entrees come with unlimited salad bar which was amazingly fresh and Texas toast. The concept of the restaurant is you will be seated order your drinks and appetizers through your waiter, after you order you can help yourself to the all you can eat salad bar and all you can eat bread and butter. The salad bar was SO good and I'm not one to like salad. Everything was so fresh. The lettuce had no pink spots and the tomatoes were firm, juicy, and sweet. Honestly everything was so fresh, I went for 3 plates! The meats were fresh and it was fun to grill your own meat! Neat place. Salad bar is of low standard though. Made me think of what a salad bar would look like at a gas station restaurant stop along some interstate. People were touching the stuff with their hands, and the bread and butter. My god, the horror. Definitely sketch. Service wasn't bad, it was sufficient for a cook your own food place. Waiter was absentminded so eventually I just got everyone silverware, asked for drink refills, clean the table from the sticky stuff, etc.... We grilled ribeyes and salmon. The meat was good, as was the fish. The grill was gross with sauces and stuff. GSP for the meat, son hit the salmon with teriyaki. This was all good. Son loved the salmon. The sides dishes were so good I don't remember them. Who knows, but they were just that, forgettable.... but they weren't bad or gross, I'd remember. Again, neat place and worth the experience if you are up on a trip to the area. Aside from that, have your neighbor sell you a piece of meat and cook it on his grill. At least you'll eat with your neighbor. Want to see this place make it. It has character and represents what western mountain town personality looks like - unlike all the growth of new stuff. The side gets brought to your table but the protein you get to cook yourself. There's a sign on the wall that tells you how many minutes to cook something depending on how you want it. I love this place. I've been here many times over the years and it's always been a favorite. I love picking out my own steak and cooking it myself to my liking. I love the old time vibes. Booth seating, and the old saloon decor. It's a shame that the restaurant is now surrounded by such ugly urban looking buildings. It gives the outside a very out of place feeling. A visit to The Historic Mint is an absolute must while in Silvethorne and I'm here to share why. The building itself dates back to the 1860's and is still standing today. The bar area you immediately walk through was the original watering hole for thirsty miners back then. Now it's home to great eats and wonderful service. With it being our first time, we leaned on the staff to share personal and guest favorites while explaining the process of how it works; order your drinks and appetizers at your table, head towards the butcher to pick your choice of meat and take that to the grill to cook it yourself. The grill area comes equipped with all sorts of seasonings and spices, oil, butter, tongs, not to mention the opportunity to chat with locals or out of towners around the grill. And you can never go wrong with an all you can eat salad bar and toast, for free. Pro tip-- ask the staff for a sauté pan and throw some onions, peppers, and/or mushrooms in the pan and then on the grill you've got yourself some grilled veggies. You're welcome. The stuffed mushrooms appetizer was out of bounds; cheesy and packed with flavor. The choice of meats are pretty self explanatory pending on your personal preference. Very good, but of course you cook your own protein, you shouldn't have complaints. My only complaint is that there was parties of 4, 6 and 2 all right in sync at time of opening. This is such a great place! My husband goes every time he is in the area so I was excited to check it out. It's a butcher / restaurant. You can purchase whatever you'd like at the butcher counter then you cook it yourself on their large indoor grill. They have several options at the counter including different cuts of steak, salmon, veggies. The prices are good and a free salad bar as well as Texas toast are included. They also have a full bar and the wine we ordered was pretty good. Pro tip- bring your own meat thermometer!! (Would actually also be great if they had a few on hand for guests!) Such a good idea but poorly executed. I will say the ribeye tasted very good and was cooked perfectly(cause I cooked it). For $40 it was a pretty thin ribeye. My biggest complaint was that THEY DON'T HAVE REAL BUTTER. I'm sorry but you are not a steakhouse if you only have margarine. Jalapeño poppers were good. Dee gave us a great overview of the history of the restaurant and the family that owned the restaurant. He cracked a lot of jokes and was so positive and fun to chat with. I selected the petite NY strip steak. Was a little disappointed in all the fat surrounding the meat that I could not eat. But enjoyed the experience of seasoning and grilling my own steak. We ordered 3 different sides: 1 corn on the cob ($4.50), asparagus (4 asparagus for $8), and truffle fries (small basket of fries for $5.50). The sides were extremely overpriced, felt like a rip off. Miranda was our server and was beyond incredible. The male server and the bartender were also amazing. We were tired from driving over 12 hours from OK so i would have preferred to go to a place where we were more served instead of getting our salad and grilling our steak but it turned out to be really good! This place is amazing! The staff were attentive and very friendly. We had a filet mignon and a rib eye. I love a filet and I cook it medium rare. My filet was bacon wrapped. My wife likes here steak cooked well. Since you cook your own she was able to cook it her way. The salad bar was a great way to start the meal. I can't eat a filet without a great baked potato. When we finished cooking our steaks, the baker was right at our table. Very attentive staff. One of the Crown Jewels is the thick cut bread. I put butter on the slice and sprinkle garlic salt on it and brown both sides on the grill. There are lots of spices and teriyaki to put on the steaks or chicken.
