A friend and I went on a 2 day vacation down in the Carmel-Monterey Area, and we came across this spot for breakfast-brunch. There were a few clouds up in the sky, and it did sprinkle a little bit. We had a dog with us and needed a place with patio seating. Fortunately, we came across this place!This place is a wedged in the back area of the barnyard plaza down some stairs. As we went down the stairs, the outside seating area was nestled between two buildings, one of them being From Scratch the restaraunt. The layout for the seating outside is a little crowded, but still nice. The menu is really easy to read and had plenty to offer. I went about getting the french toast, which came with a side bowl of fruit. It was different from the typacl french toast I eat (Not a bad thing) It was still fluffy and sweet, Our waiter brought us a bowl of water for our dog which was really nice of him. The service was fair, nothing absolutely spectacular, but still present. Parking isn't an issue since it has a whole lot for the plaza, Our only issue to be frank was just finding the place! ahahaha! I came here on April 13 for breakfast. A short back story, I called a week in advance to make a reservation and they took my name and my party number. Then when I called two days before to change the time, I was told that they don't take reservations. So that was super weird to me. I came for a friends birthday. We were seated immediately(didn't really need a reservation anyways lol) we all ordered drinks, 2 mimosas and 1 Bloody Mary. We were not carded until we had already ordered? And by carded I mean we were asked if we were all over 21. We all were but still seemed weird. The mimosa was good but the Bloody Mary was not that great. Shortly after our drinks came, we ordered. Two of us got the crab Benedict and one got a bacon avacado omelette. The crab Benedict was suuuuper tasty and I'm so glad I ordered it. The omelette was made different than I've seen it at almost all other breakfast places. The stuff that was suppose to be mixed in with the egg of the omelette was just placed inside of the folded egg. I'm not sure if that explains it correctly but t was just different. But still yummy. From Scratch simply has the best food in the area for breakfast/brunch/lunch. Our favorites include the biscuits and gravy (with house made biscuits, sausage, and gravy of course), the brisket chili, any and all burgers, the Monterey Dip sandwich, and the Eggs Benedict. If you're super hungry (or want to share a dish), try the Triple D Sampler, which includes the biscuits and gravy, a bowl of chili, and a side (we would recommend the fried cheesy grits). (Yes, "that" Triple D; the show Diners, Drive-ins and Dives has filmed a show here and Guy loved it so much that he brought Robert Irving in just for the meal). Everything on the menu is really spectacular and the service is awesome too. This place is Fire. If you love breakfast this is the place to go. One thing is they are pretty busy and do not take reservations so make sure you come sooner then later and hope it's not crazy busy. 1st thing you will notice it's near a mall and you have to find the place it's down stairs a bit hard to find but it's worth it. You will have to wait if you have a large party. At least I did. The wait staff is very friendly and I love that they work together. People come by with water and coffee check on you and your food ect. They work well as a team it's not 1 person per table so it's a team effort. I think that's way better as everything gets taken care of. The food as well was very good a there was a lot of it. The coffee was ok but offer free refills like clock work. I ended up finally getting the Waffle I wanted and it was dang good. The syrup was warm and very good. The fresh fruit was also very good and tasty. I would %100 return to eat here. I'm not a big salt person, and I do all the cooking at home. So for me to think it needed some is a big issue. My wife had the Carmel omelet, which she liked, but was a little dry. She wanted some salsas to put on top. They came out with Pico de gallo, which she said had no flavor to it. I will add, at times you need to find the right dish for each restaurant, we just didn't find it here. Will we be back? I'm very hesitant when ordering huevos rancheros because I grew up on them and have high expectations. The server recommended them and so I went for it. It was nachos with black beans, cheese, eggs, and pico de gallo, not true huevos rancheros. They had no flavor. My boyfriend got the turkey benedict and to me they were alright. I've been wanting to try out this restaurant for ages after seeing the episode on Triple D with Guy. I'm not a huge biscuits and gravy fan, but my mind changed about them after trying them at From Scratch. The biscuits were super flavorful and light, while the sausage and gravy were hearty but not super heavy. I got the half order, and the amount was perfect for my stomach. The waiters and staff were extremely attentive, and my waiter was super nice to let me stay and read my book for over 2 hours, assuring me they didn't need the table. We also ordered a skillet which our waiter recommended we get with the fried eggs over medium, that was a perfect recommendation! Oh my goodness all the flavors of this skillet were truly delicious! The biscuit paired really well with this skillet too! Everything we ordered tasted so fresh and full of flavor!! They make everything in house and even make their bread daily; which is evident in the way everything tastes! They do not take any shortcuts and take great care when preparing these truly scrumptious plates.
