Had lunch here today. At Noon this little space was filled with locals and folks over 65. That's usually a good sign. (good food & affordable prices) Jean ordered the Black Bean Soup & Salad. I ordered the Monte Cristo (the menu says "Not fried, grilled to perfection") so I figured why not? I am a fan of the Monte Cristo sandwich, but never had one that wasn't fried. Jean's salad came with the house made Raspberry Vinaigrette on the side. She said the dressing was very sweet. Too sweet for her taste. My sandwich came with soup, the soup of the day was clam chowder. It was a darn good chowder. Not as thick as some, but full of clams and a tasty broth. No crackers were provided, which was kind of a drag. The waiter left before I could ask. I guess I should mention that some of the clams were a bit gritty. They were fresh, but needed a bit more cleaning before being put in the chowder. The food arrived right away. Jean liked the Black Bean soup. She said it had great flavor and tasted homemade. She was a bit surprised there were no other vegetables in the soup, just beans and a dollop of sour cream on top (which she removed). My Monte Cristo was pretty blah. The waiter brought it and offered to bring either syrup or raspberry jam to go with it. I asked if they had any strawberry jam & he went off in search of some. I have never seen a breakfast joint with no jam on the tables until today. Usually they have those little packages of jam, not this place. It took him a few minutes but he finally returned with some strawberry jam. The way they make the sandwich, very strange. They obviously grill the ham, grill the chicken, throw it back inside the bread, and grill the bread. This renders the chicken (or was it turkey? I couldn't tell) dry. Very dry. The ham was okay but it had a rind on it that got very tough when grilled. Not good. I would not order that sandwich there again. One and a half stars for Jean's soup, one and a half stars for my clam chowder. Order carefully if you visit From Scratch. Maybe you should stick to the soup. Bring your own crackers. read more

We decided to check this place out since we did not want to deal with long waits for a brunch at Carmel by the sea. We arrived around 11am on a Sunday and were seated right way. We thought, hooray! Service was great. Everyone was friendly and efficient. But the food...okay, that day's one of the specials, Candied Walnut Waffle with strawberries and banana was good. But crab benedict that so many people commented on was one of the worst benedict brunches I've had. It had no flavor. Crab meat was ridiculous dry. Potatoes were not fully cooked. I got a pebble peach omelette (crab, yum!) potatoes and a cheddar buttermilk biscuit and it was all SO GOOD. The last few times I had dishes with crab in it, I was disappointed--but not here. We decided to have a family outing to Monterey to visit Grandma so she could see the grandkids. For brunch, we settled on From Scratch. We ordered, From Scratch Skillet, Cranberry and Almond Pancakes x3, Crab Benedict and create your Own Omelette. Portion across the board was quite generous and executed well. The quality of the ingredients were decent but did not care for the texture/quality of the crab meat. The potatoes were good but lacked the crispy quality I long for. Overall, the flavors were good but keep in mind it was quite heavy with all the cheese and meats. However, it does depend on what you choose as your additional sides that come with your skillet. The pancakes were ok, I felt they weren't as light and fluffy as I would have preferred but its a matter of personal preferences. Did not disappoint! Boysenberry jam was fabulous. DH got the skillet, DS the pancake and DD 2 eggs with sausage. She raved over the cheese biscuits! I was sincerely un-impressed. When I arrived, they eould not seat me until my guest arrived. There was no wait seating available. I have knee issues that fell on deaf ears. I asked them if I ordered my coffee and such if I could be seated. Big fat no. Food was not the greatest, but it was edible. They did not have enough wait staff. I had to wait for 30 minutes to leave because the waiter did not return. This restaurant was on Guy Fiedi's show. Not his best recommendation. Sad. but this was not Triple D worthy read more

Nice little breakfast place that is tucked away in a shopping center in Carmel. Took a seat outside in the covered patio because the tables inside were all taken. I could see how this place could fill up fast. Might not be good for large parties. I had the Triple D sampler that consisted of the sausage biscuit & gravy with 2 eggs any style and country potatoes. Also came with a side of brisket chili. This was a great sized portion and delicious taste. For $16.99, can't really beat it. The Mrs. had the pebble beach (shrimp & crab) omelette and was very happy with it. She raved about how well it was seasoned. There was this homemade jam they served that was delicious. Kids had Choco-chip pancakes and a grilled cheese. Both of them were happy. This is definitely a 5 Star Restaurant in every way! The staff that work here go out of their way to be friendly and welcome you, and are super attentive, personable, and fun! We stayed across the street at the Carmel Mission Inn, so knew we had to dine here for breakfast. Restaurant is comfortable and cozy, coffee is delicious & omelette's are scrumptious! So yummy that we had to come back the day after! Wish this place was in our home town. Would go every weekend! Thank you for the memories!!! read more

Have to admit I came here because I e of my daughters friends told us that Guy Fieri had been here. I'm a DDD fanatic and was excited to hit up another one of his joints. They are pet friendly, which worked out, as we had our dogs with us this weekend. Outdoor seating was a bit rough as the sun blasted down on us until they were able to move an umbrella to help out a bit. For breakfast, I had the triple D platter. Biscuits and gravy were great with tons of sausage and great biscuit. Also had a slab of fried cheddar grits. That was a first, but it was pretty darn good. Along with the 2 eggs, it also came with a bowl of brisket chili. This was a ton of food. Overall, this is a great breakfast spot in the barnyard shopping center. Definitely worth a visit. read more

Just overall disappointed. Starting with the service - I'm certain the waitress rolled her eyes when I asked for my eggs over medium well. The eggs were made all right , but the bacon was too crisp (if that is a thing) and cold. Everything was cold. My friend orders a pancake in addition to her skillet breakfast and it literally arrived 25 minutes after our meal arrived. We were done. I feel if a pancake takes 40 minutes to make, it should be mentioned at the time of ordering. Finally - real butter would be appreciated. read more

We came here to celebrate our daughter's birthday and had a large group of 16 and the experience was wonderful. From making arrangements with the hostess on the phone, to the waitress, bar staff and even chef, we were taken well care of. The atmosphere was quaint and lovely. The food was absolutely amazing! We ordered a variety of the menu items and everyone was extremely happy with their meal. The skillet potatoes and the cheesy biscuits were a big highlight. I'll first start with the food. The food was phenomenal. Very tasty, had great menu options, tasted homemade. I will definitely recommend this place based on the food alone. Then the service was also incredible. The server, Karen, came and checked on us quite often and had a great attitude. She recommended some menu items to us and she did a great job. The chef also came out and made sure our food and experience was up to par. Everything about this meal felt above and beyond. I'm not normally one to rouse early in the morning, but at the nagging, er, recommendation of one of my friends, I've decided to make a more concerted effort to try out some of the breakfast spots around town. And she's decided to come along for the ride because, well, she loves breakfast. Our first stop was From Scratch, an institution tucked away in the Barnyard. The breakfast menu is served until 2:30, and includes classic fare, like omelets, scrambles, Benedicts, pancakes and French toast. I was torn--did I want to order something sweet or savory? Both the eggs Benedict and the pancakes sounded good. Our server made things easy--she offered to bring me a half-order of the eggs Benedict and a single pancake. Score! I opted for the crab eggs Benedict, an indulgent choice to start the morning with Dungeness crab. There was a generous portion of crab, served over sautéed mushrooms and onions on a Wolferman's English muffin. I opted for my Hollandaise sauce on the side, since I've never been a big fan. (It's just a bit too rich for me, you know?) The accompanying home-style potatoes were just OK--but I much prefer crispy hash browns, so I'm not sure I'm an unbiased judge. I also sampled the sausage--both veggie and meat. The veggie sausage wasn't really anything special, just four patties of Morning Star Farms' veggie sausage; the proper meat sausage was much better. For a sweet finish, I ordered a single banana granola pancake. The pancake was thick, yet light and fluffy, just how a good pancake should be. The bananas were a nice complement to the granola in both flavor and texture. The service was prompt and welcoming, with that typical breakfast joint vibe. I'd definitely go back to From Scratch--the food was mighty tasty and certainly reason to rouse from bed a little earlier for a hearty breakfast out. read more

Went here for breakfast the other day. Sat outside on their patio and soaked up the sunlight. Cute little place inside the Barnyard in Carmel, Ca. They are open for breakfast and lunch only. The food was very fresh. We ordered the breakfast burrito and some egg plate. Both plates came with cheese potatoes they were awesome. The salsa that came with my burrito was cold and tasted like it was just prepared. Both were very tasty and hearty. My only gripe is the service was a little slow. read more

Came here based on Yelp reviews. Monday at noon we came in. I ordered the corn beef hash. My girlfriend ordered the biscuits and gravy. Food was just ok, nothing spectacular. Ordered eggs over medium, they came out runny as all heck. My girlfriend's eggs over fried. More than anything else, what stuck with me was the costomer service. Food came out in fair time. But the servers were unattentive. I tried to ask a server for some refills, and twice she said ok, but never came back. No one came by to check the table. When we were done, I went up to the front and asked for the bill. I asked again for water to be delivered to the table, and it finally was. 3/5 stars. But guys: you charge $15 for french toast and then make customers pay $2 more for real maple syrup? I ate here 2 years ago with my family and it was great! But the second time we came was just the worst experience you could have in a restaurant... first off, one dish was missing from our table. It's always weird when everyone is almost done eating their food and someone is just sitting there waiting for their order!! he waited an additional 25 min and his order finally came out and they said they had forgotten to make it!! Our bread also didn't make it to the table till 25 min into eating our meals. And I think the worst part was when we paid for our meals and were about to leave, and my mother didn't receive her credit card back. We asked our waitress and she just said, "is it not on the table?" Like hello of course we checked the table before asking!!
