My sister placed an order for 30 cupcakes for my daughter's birthday. I live in Staten Island so I saw them for the first time through pictures less than 24 hours before the party. This isn't the first time I've gotten cupcakes from them and I have asked for the SAME design. I was very happy with my previous order so to see this today was unacceptable. The cupcakes are supposed to be karate gis with the yellow green belt. They look like snowballs. The fondant was completely melted, overflowing on the sides as if fondant had been placed on a hot cupcake. When my brother went to pick them up, he was not shown them prior to paying and leaving the facility. The bag was tied and ready for pick up. My sister called and was told that their homemade batter is "supposed to overflow." Keep in mind this was a $200+ order. The manager was not helpful nor understanding about the situation. She did not provide any sort of alternative to this mess. I don't understand how a business could treat a returning customer this way without any attempt to make it right. read more

It is thanksgiving Eve and I am stepping off the LIRR saying to myself, get a dessert now because you know you aren't going hunting for one (or making homemade!) tomorrow. I stopped in just in time, about 430 and there were a few people ordering and the shelves were looking bare. Choices were limited but I selected a devils food spiral with white buttercream (16$) it would have cut a nice 6 slices if the kids didn't get to it before I had a chance to snap a pic or even the adults had a chance to taste it !! Needless to say it was a hit. I saw some nice cookies and cakes so I will be back for next last minute dessert selection, because that's how I roll. read more

The cookies here are to die for! Surprisingly they also sell donut holes. And for the price, variety, and taste they are an absolute must! I got one of each flavor, and each one was better then the next. Like..Tim hortons and dunkin who? Hahaha. For only $15 we got a mini carrot cake, a dozen donut holes, and a large sprinkle cookie. What a deal! The shop is so quaint and they have so much to choose from. You can even get dog treats, edible cake decorations prepacked loaf cakes and cookies. Even though they take credit cards, they have an ATM inside for convenience. So if you're trying to hop on the RVC train and need cash, you can quickly open in. Parking is metered street parking. I do not live nearby, but every time I am somewhat local, I make it a point to stop by Front Street Bakery. I love rainbow cookies, and theirs are one of the best, especially on LI. They are a bit different than those you normally find at a bakery. Each piece is completely covered in high quality chocolate. The cookie itself is moist, the perfect texture, with the right amount of raspberry jelly. Amazing, even at about $24/pd. The coffee cakes/bites are great too, as well as the donuts. They offer a variety of cookies, and cakes. Some of the help is friendlier than others. There was usually a line, but it moves pretty quickly. Also, there is a 3% charge for using a credit card. I had to drop something off at Rockville Centre and then take the LIRR to Manhattan. Alas, I missed the train and the next one was not due for another half hour. From the platform, I spotted a whole bunch of people standing in line at Front Street Bakery . So I went and stood in line with them to see what the big deal was. Well, I'm glad I did because I got the best chocolate-covered rainbow cookies ever! The cake was moist and the chocolate real, with a bit of jam in between the cakey layers. I also got a few other cookies and a blueberry muffin and jelly donut. Don't waste your calories and money on those, they were just ok. In fact, Costco has better blueberry muffins. Heck, even Dunkin has better blueberry muffins. However, I would definitely stand in line to get the chocolate covered rainbow cookies again. The service is very friendly and fast also. read more

I've been going to Front Street Bakery for 30+ years. When you see the selection of baked treats, a smile would come on your face. Typically, we purchase cakes from here and occasionally, their coffee crumb cake , which is delicious. I give this bakery a 5 for products but a 3 for customer service. Sometimes, the service is friendly and inviting and at times, I feel that they are doing us a favor. Lastly, there is a 3% up charge for credit and debit card use. There is a new service that they bring your items to the door once you've gotten to the store and you call them. Crowded and possibly overrated. I rather go to an Italian bakery than this. I ordered a cake for my husband. Rainbow cookie cake, or that's what it looked like. The taste was very odd. Place has a gorgeous storefront and just as amazing inside. Great selections of cakes, cookies, baked goods and etc. they even have treats for your furry pals. Staff is on the move to get your order to you and you on your way, so don't be intimidated by the line. I've had this place bookmarked a long time... The inside of this bakery is so pretty and there's so much to choose from. I was overwhelmed. The line moved very quickly. Before I even checked everything out, it was already my turn to order. I quickly ordered sprinkle cookies, a unicorn cookie, and a mini chocolate cake. I really wanted to get bread too, but I felt rushed. Service is fast, but I wish it was in a nicer tone. I understand that your baked goods are incredible, but when there isn't a huge line, there's no need to rush your customers or be rude. The sprinkle cookies were very fresh. They practically melted in my mouth. I definitely will be coming back here for more of those. Hopefully with better service. My friend really enjoyed the unicorn cookie. She said she wanted to just try a piece and ended up eating the whole thing. That's how good these are. The mini chocolate cake was so good. It tasted like chocolate ganache. I can eat cake ... and eat my words as well. After the previous experience that I mentioned a couple years ago, I have since returned to Front Street Bakery, despite saying I would not. This is mostly because my parents wanted a cake from there and the bakeries nearby just were not cutting it. So, being an A+ daughter, I went ahead and picked up a cake. And, after another delicious cake enjoyed by all, I have returned many times after for birthday/event cakes since. This bakery really does an amazing job with their cakes, pies, and pastries, and despite the fact that I still very much stick to my belief that they should have replaced the mistake cake from that last incident I mentioned, I hope to never face such issues again ... because their stuff is just too yummy to resist. read more

Yamara and the rest of the women that work at Front St. are incredible! I saw some of the reviews and how wonderful the bakery was so I decided to give it a shot. The staff has been friendly, courteous and super helpful every time I have visited so far! The line out the door can be daunting at times but it's worth the wait!! I ended up getting 4 cakes here over the past 2 weeks. I tried the tres leches and that was hands down the best we have ever had ! Smash hit!! The blackout cake was amazing as well! (Chocolate cake with chocolate pudding and chocolate crumbs). Chocolate Ribbon cake was excellent too! (Chocolate cake with chocolate mousse and chocolate shell) . Strawberry shortcake with fresh strawberries was fantastic! Cookies are good as well! All of our family members are requesting cakes from Front St. for their upcoming birthdays now . Front St. is one of those bakeries that gets the fundamentals right. I'm excited to have discovered a local spot with awesome customer service that makes fresh baked goods all the time. No surprise they have been open since 1946 and I'm sure they will be open for a long time to come. I've been here a few times and this place is very hit or miss. Service: As so many other reviews have stated, the staff has a very weird hostility here. Never friendly. Price: As someone coming from NYC the cheap prices are amazing here. Food: I've tried their blueberry muffins and tea scones with raisins and glaze in the mornings after getting off the LIRR. The tea scones are delicious and the blueberry muffins are so soft and honestly some of the best i've ever had. So nice for a quick breakfast treat. However, I recently tried their vanilla angel food cake and coconut almond mini cake and they were both pretty gross. The angel food cake looks so good but the frosting tastes weird and it's way too dense. I've genuinely made better angel food cake with a box mix. The coconut almond mini cake was downright inedible and ended up in my garbage. It had an overwhelming spice to it, like someone added way too much almond extract or cinnamon when making it. However, I also got a vanilla cupcake for my sister (which was SO beautifully decorated with a flower, butterfly, and edible glitter for only like $2.75) and a red velvet mini cake for my mother and they both said they enjoyed their desserts. Overall, it's very hit or miss and I definitely wouldn't go out my way to come back but would maybe try my luck with some other things if I was already in the area. read more

Let me begin by stating that Front Street is an exceptional bakery with delicious everything and skilled bakers that make any occasion a special one. The employees are always lovely and very helpful- with the exception of the gentleman who brought out my cake and cookies this morning. I tried, for the first time today, the drive up service where you call when you arrive and your order is brought to your car- that is what I was told! A gentleman came out- I was parked in a spot to the left of the store and was waving to the gentleman. He yelled out," We don't come to you, you come here and get your order." He was the epitome of low class- screaming that out in the middle of the street. I got my order- no bag for my cake- my cookies were not wrapped in cellophane as promised or labeled so I can give one box to someone else. Had to open boxes to see what was inside. I asked about this and he would not address anything and blew me off. Such poor customer service, poor presentation-and just rude and dismissive behavior to a loyal customer. I understand the chaotic, hectic time of a holiday- especially for a busy bakery- but still unacceptable. I was extremely humiliated by being screamed at in the middle of the street for no reason.
