I've been a regular here forever, and like everyone else, I wondered if the new location could live up to the original. Short answer: absolutely yes! While some loved the moody, dark basement vibe of the old space and others hated it, the new spot is a complete flip--bright, airy, with huge windows and great patio seating. They even saved a few old decorations as a nice nod to the past. We celebrated a friend's birthday here, and having the amazing Holly as our server made it even better. She's taken care of us tons of times at the original location and always goes above and beyond for us. Thanks, Holly! The food was flawless. Huge, piping-hot portions of the Shrimp Fra Diavolo, Donini Pasta, Chicken Francese, Chicken Parm, and rack of lamb. Somehow, we still found room to scarf down the flourless chocolate cake and bread pudding for dessert. They are going to be slammed during the busy season, especially being located at the ferry dock. The three of us had dined here previously - for years-and were looking forward to a great meal. Not to be. It started with having the wrong address. Evidently the restaurant had to relocate to another location but failed to indicate such on their website and being no one answers their phone or returns call, how would one know? We ordered appetizers: pasta fagioli soup, and a wedge salad. And bread is a menu item now. The soup was noticeably salty but the killer was the wedge salad. Basically a head of iceberg with a few dribbles of blue cheese dressing and a tablespoon of blue cheese. We asked our server for more dressing and we received the smallest additional portion with an equally smaller portion of blue cheese ( note the salad dressing has no blue cheese in it) accompanied by a dollop of attitude. The main dishes were equally disappointing: chicken francaise that didn't look like chicken francaise with chicken that was chewy. Eggplant and chicken parm with cold penne pasta and eggplant parm that was tough. Fine dining at it's best! Not! And prices for these dishes in the thirty dollar range. I wish we had remained lost that night, would have saved $175. Definitely not worth it and we won't be back. read more

I had a wonderful meal at Front Street last night. Really like the new location. However, the service was extremely spotty. Our server was very eager to take our drink and appetizers orders and then we said we were not in a rush but received our appetizers very quickly. We felt extremely rushed even though we said we were not in a hurry. my partner ordered mussels but with no bread and had to ask another server to bring it to our table. Then we ordered our main course which consisted of an eggplant parmigiana and and a rack of lamb which arrived pretty promptly. Throughout our meal, our server never came back to see how everything was. The last time we saw him was when he asked us whether we wanted any dessert. While sitting at our table, we saw other servers who were very attentive to the diners that they serving. Not the case for us! This is a busy upscale Italian restaurant on Commercial St. We arrived around 6:30pm on a Friday night and all of the tables inside were reserved. We had a choice to eat at the bar or at one of the tables outside on the patio. We chose the latter. The menu is large and varied..probably one of the largest menus in town. I picked a broccoli appetizer and a sauteed veggie plate. I asked for low sodium and both came out delicious and very well done. I also had some of the Wedge salad (very good) and the Chicken Parm (very salty). The service was good and prompt, considered the restaurant was pretty full. Food was not good. My pasta was overcooked - had the Pappardelle alla Casalinga - it was overcooked pasta, a meatball and a piece of sausage. Every time I picked up my fork the pasta would fall apart. For the price point ($26) is ridiculous. We made a reservation and waited over 10 min before the waitress came over and then another 30 min for our main entrees. We were a group of 5, not a large group. And just drinks and entrees. And for a tourist town, that night they were only taking cash bc their POS system was down. Worst experience of all the restaurants we went to during our visit. read more

As area locals, Front Street (at its prior location) was a real hidden gem. This year at their new location is off to an unacceptable start. Rude arrogance at the door from the host who doesn't care if you have reservations or not - you'll wait and get your table when he seats you. At the table, expect to wait an eternity for drinks - pro tip- the vodka soda appears to have carbonated city water so if you know anything about Provincetown water, you'll know how that drink tasted. Things don't get any better in the kitchen. The food arrived nearly 90 minutes into our visit. Some plates were served cold while others look like they were assembled by your 8 year old niece who has a passion for the kitchen and just wants to help. The slow service meant the restaurant missed out on us ordering more drinks, apps, desserts. The bill could easily have been 2x as high had things been moving. We cut our losses - stuck to entrees only and a single round of drinks. They'd be closed by the time the second round of drinks came out anyway. read more

They're pulling off a miracle, recreating the food and at least some of the vibe of Front Street in temporary digs while their old building undergoes restoration . We were there only on the fourth night and it was humming, new staff getting up to speed, and everything was wonderful - from salads and apps to the pastas to the inimitable tea smoked duck. I hope they move back to restored but still intimate space - but for now, this will more than do! read more

Let me start by saying we've been fans of Front Street for many years, so it pains me to share this feedback. Unfortunately the rudeness of the host, the quality and presentation of the food, and the timing of the kitchen and bar were all sub-par. The only shining light was our lovely server who has been there for years (and even she was apologetic for our experience). We arrived on time and there was a wait to get inside to check in given it was a busy Friday night. No issue, we don't mind waiting and it was so nice outside. We finally get inside and the host proceeds to sit the group waiting behind us - he looks at us while stating to the other group 'I'll seat you first because YOU were on time', insinuating that we were late for our reservation. Just rude since we were patiently waiting in line like everyone else. The new space is nice and they did a good job capturing the old 'Front Street feel' in their new location. We were seated and our server came right over and took our drink order and shared the specials, etc. The bar was understaffed so we waited about 15-20 minutes for three drinks. The server was apologetic and took our food order while we waited for drinks. We also ordered some fresh bread to get us started (very good). Food arrives. The chicken and eggplant parmesan was being split by two of us - we did request split portions which didn't happen (fine, no big deal), but the entree itself was so small and completely burned under the broiler yet came out cold. Even the side pasta was cold. Seems they make it ahead of time and just heat it under the broiler. Since it was cold, the entree was hard and congealed (kind of like eating leftovers the next day). So disappointing as it used to be one of my favorites on their menu. The other order was for a caesar salad w a soft shelled crab. The salad was described with anchovies and shaved parmesan cheese - neither were included. In fact, the salad wasn't even dressed....just a small plate of chopped romaine and some croutons. And the crab was served separately on a small side plate w no garnish or presentation (which for the price one might place it on some lettuce or add a lemon wedge or something). So now three of the four guests are disappointed. I will say the last entree, shrimp scampi, looked delicious and perfectly prepared. So our fourth guest was quite pleased and the shrimp looked lovely. Plusses: wonderful server and great shrimp scampi and warm bread. Nice job updating the interior of the new space. Minuses: the rude host really threw the evening off kilter from the get-go. Unfortunate and unnecessary. Bar was completely understaffed (only ordered one round the entire night given the wait). Food, overall, was a far cry from the Front Street we knew and loved. It was like eating at a completely different restaurant. Overall? We won't go back. Provincetown restaurants are expensive as it is - so all things being equal we will spend our money where the hosts are welcoming and the food is served with care and pride. Front Street has an amazing new location - they will succeed on location alone.....but wow, it's a sad ghost of what it used to be. Makes me sad. Note: I have to emphasize that our server was so good and you could tell she felt bad about the evening. We made a point to over-tip her, as she was really doing a wonderful job trying to keep the back of the house together. Bad experiences are rarely due to the server...so be nice to them. read more

The food was very mediocre. It was very loud and so tightly packed that the chairs in back of me and the person sitting in it backed up to my back. When I left, I could not move my chair. We waited 45 minutes for a drink as there was only one bar tender. I used to love this place but in this new venue, save your money and go somewhere else. read more

I live in Provincetown and Front Street has been my go-to for years. So I was excited to try the new location on Saturday night and made the reservation weeks in advance. But when i arrived with my group of four the host was rude and dismissive. He said our reservation was made on Open Table for an outside table -- which was not true -- and when pressed said that nothing was available all night. No, I'm sorry. Or apologies, or we'll give you a comp drink the next time. Just rude and dismissive. The experience left my group wondering if we'll ever return to what was our favorite place. read more

Sorry to say from the moment we sat down we had poor service. Forgiving at first but it never got any better. Bartender was not attentive. Took 15 min after ordering to get drinks. He didn't write our dinner order down and kept repeating the wrong order over and over. We had to keep correcting him. One meal came out completely wrong which wasn't a surprise. We finished our dinners before that person received theirs. Meals were not great. Tough chicken, over cooked pasta. Never were we asked how things were let alone an apology about the wrong order. Had to ask for more water. Never asked if we wanted another drink. The bill comes and they still charged us for the incorrect meal until we said something. The real sticking point for me was, they charged $8 for a side of marinara sauce. Meanwhile they serve their pasta dry with no sauce. Never in my life have I been charged for a side of sauce. The prices in town are lofty already and to nickel and dime a customer for a ladle of sauce is just unacceptable and insulting. Used to love this place but won't be back. Another superb dinner at Front St. Lost count how many years now, every visit; at least 20. We shared a salad if arugula, olives, artichoke hearts, and feta; simple and a great way to start. I had the shrimp & veal piccata which was fantastic: literally just what it should be, big succulent shrimp NOT overcooked, and little melt-your-mouth veal medallions. My husband had the eggplant parm and adored it. Extraordinarily thin eggplant slices, the rest if the dish lush with cheese and sauce. We finished with a shockingly good pistachio crème brûlée. Not only exquisitely smooth but actually subtly flavored, which I find rare in this dish. Service was attentive, skillful, a nice blend of familiar and respectful. The atmosphere was class Front Street, cozy and hoppin'. You can tell from the happy sound of the crowd this is a great restaurant. Our only (mild) criticism is that since the new ownership, the pace is picked up: it's no longer such leisurely dining; you sense somebody calculating nightly table turns. Writing this review as we sit in our hotel room, still digesting, thinking about how unreal our meal was. I've never been so sad to be so full, because I didn't get to clean my plate or order the other items of interest - the servings were large. We had the arancini, hot bread, chicken francese, and truffle cream gnocchi. Our server was lovely. The ambience was cozy and nostalgic. Really enjoyed dinner here the other night. Did not have a reservation - but was seated without a wait. That was a huge plus. The ambience of the restaurant is breathtaking. Very romantic with beautiful art paintings. We started the evening with wine, which was delicious. We ordered meatballs and mussels as our appetizers. Both were phenomenal. After years of trying to work this landmark restaurant into our rotation, including an outright botched evening where we had to cancel in 2022, we finally made it this year. Katie was an excellent server - so warm, knowledgeable and thoughtful. Another cool waitress came over after spotting my vintage Madonna shirt and had a fun conversation with us about Madonna's contributions to the wider culture and how much she has lifted the LGBT community up. I loved that! In a town with a seemingly inexhaustible amount of excellent restaurants, Front Street still holds its ground and is not coasting on its reputation where it comes to what matters most - the food. My calamari dish prepared with a tomato-based sauce with capers and olives over pasta was positively sublime. I simply cannot return to town without having it again. My friend also loved his butternut squash ravioli dish: "Delicious." The only thing I would call a skip is the bread basket, which is not complimentary. It was pretty ordinary, forgettable and just barely worth the calories. We rushed off to see Dina Martina (her best show in years - she's highly recommended, too!) and came back later for dessert, and they managed to accommodate us even though they had become more busy. We had Katie once more, and very much enjoyed the flourless chocolate cake. A perfect cap on a lovely evening. It took too long for us to finally try Front Street, but we are very glad to have finally done so. read more

We were looking for a great meal in Provincetown and a lot of people recommended Front Street. The ambience is very nice; dimly light, beautifully decorated, and romantic. We started with two of the specials, the pistachio gnocchi and coconut shrimp with polenta. Both were incredibly delicious and quite large! The sauce with the gnocchi packed a punch of pistachio and also basil. The coconut shrimp had a delicious sweet chili sauce and were perfectly cooked. For our mains we got the pappardelle with meatballs, italian sausage, and whipped ricotta in a marinara sauce. The sauce was just right - not too sweet. The pasta was fresh and soaked up the sauce well. The meatballs and sausage were very good too! My girlfriend got the luciano (similar to penne vodka) with chicken. She really enjoyed that as well! For dessert we got the flourless chocolate cake which was very rich and had a great raspberry sauce with it. Overall we left full and happy and would definitely recommend Front St for a more upscale dining experience in Provincetown. read more

Was expecting better after several people made a recommendation. We arrived at 530 and had a reservation. Person at front area was rather unfriendly, brought us to our table after an extensive review of her charts. Pulled service items off the table and just left. Not the best start. Service from waiter was quick and he was very interested in getting our drink order and order in a fast as possible. We needed a few extra minutes to review the menu as it has many choices. He came back at least three times in five minutes. The food was okay. Pasta was luke warm and was watery. Chicken was good and hot and was okay. It was really just average and I wonder if we had higher expectations for our meal that was about 150.00 for one app, bread service, round of drinks and two meals. On a positive note, when you go down a few stairs, the inside is beautiful! Very nice bar as you enter and the ambiance was great. I wish the meal and service matched that. read more

The restaurant as an intimate feeling with brick walls wood booths, and baskets hanging from the ceiling. It felt promising. Appetizer of fried calamari was light and crisp. The eggplant involuntini was filled with a creamy mix of ricotta and goat cheese in a chunky sauce. Our main meals were less than expected. One of us had the buratta salad with extra shrimp. The buratta itself was delicious on a plain salad with grocery store, uninspired tomatoes- in tomatoes season. Another companion had the veal Mauro. The pasta was simply boxed ziti. The veal was thick. But the overall sauce and escarole was good. The third companion had chicken Leonardo. The dish had chicken, sausage and shrimp, all standard, but the sauce was quite good. My tea smoked duck was really good. The skin was crisp, the blueberry sauce was light. It came with polenta and steamed vegetables. The polenta was light and the vegetables were crisp but simple. The best thing about the dinner was the waiter. He was professional with a good sense of humor. We really wanted this restaurant to be great but it ended up being just good. read more

Front Street comes with both positives and negatives but on the whole was a good experience. This has been around as a restaurant longer than I have lived plus another decade. That makes it a bit of an institution in Ptown. Front offers alittle of everything and continues to sell its classics which are lamb and a steak. My lamb was seasoned well. While the meal was expensive, it was finer dining. The biggest negative during my visit was the wait time to receive the meal I had ordered which really was not acceptable. Went for my birthday on Sept 11. This is my go to place for a special occasion. Sadly, since the new owners took over, the dining experience has declined. It used to be phenomenal. There were 4 of us. The guys always get the tea smoked duck. They said it wasn't as good as it used to be. I had a Caesar salad which was a big disappointment. It was chopped up romaine lettuce with a light dressing. Looked and tasted nothing like a traditional Caesar. The fried artichokes were a disappointment. I was hoping for a traditionally prepared artichoke, but the hearts were heavenly breaded and fried . Now for my final disappointment. My martini was not served in a traditional stemmed martini glass. Tasted good but I like the feel of the stemmed glass. Sadly, I will not return after eating there for for well over 10 years. read more

This place has been here since the early 80's. It's tiny. You usually have to wait a while, even with a reservation. Food is excellent, service is good but there still seems to be a shortage of help even this long after covid. A bit of a repetitive menu, offering the same dishes in Chicken, Veal and Seafood but they have delicious specials. $$$. My only complaint is, this is 2023, with all the good restaurant systems out there like the toast system, you should be able to separate the checks at the table. It took our server almost 15 min to ring out all the checks. I don't drink but my friend drink heavily. It would be nice to have a separate check. Definitely be back. read more

My wife and I made reservations for a second time after last year's dinner was so very amazing. We were seated at our requested table, #31 romantically located by the wine cage- perfect spot to celebrate our 43rd anniversary, our waitress was Chris and she gets 5 stars! She was attentive and professional. We ordered the arroncini; it was served warm and crisp with the flavorful marinara Front Street is known for. The small size and quantity takes a half star from the 5 stars. My wife totally enjoyed her main course, a fresh scallop dish. I ordered the fresh made ribbon pasta with a meatball and sausage. The taste was just ok, not how I remembered. The meatball had a curious aroma, not appealing, so I did not try it, minus another 1/2 star. And the most disappointing part for me was the presentation of my meal. The plate was almost plastic like, the food portion was too small for the size of the plate. We did not order dessert. Our Anniversary Dinner during our week's stay in Ptown each summer is much anticipated. Food was good! I don't know much about Italian food so I had a hard time choosing what to get. We did order an appetizer and two entrees. Def could've skipped the appetizer since the pasta is so filling by itself. The interior, though, is very intimate. It's is dimly lit and tables are quite close to each other. Anyone who wasn't careful or even a bit plus sized would be bumping into other tables here. Both my glass of water and martini kept sliding down the table and there wasn't any coasters to stop it from happening. I think this place overall was a cute place to come for a date night. I give it 4/5 bc I enjoyed my time there. I guess thinking back, for the price of the meal, the table setting should've been more well thought out. read more
