Just had buffet lunch today, 3/31/2017. I have had a few evening meals here and they were satisfactory. I like their naans they are light and good. Today's buffet was insipid and awful. The mah di Daal, mutter-mushroom, palak paneer (paneer was hard to find!) and tava aloo. Being a vegetarian did not try the meat offerings (3). They really need help in the kitchen. Clueless!!! Another farzi (pretending to be) Indian restaurant that caters to the non-desi crowd. Exact opposite of authentic North Indian experience in not so good way. This place was billed as a fusion/new-age Indian cuisine but suffers from just low quality cooking. Contrast this with Dosa at Valencia in SF which managed to pull off fusion well. For me the highlight of the night was Malai Paneer dish that was sweet to a fault. Having lived in North India, never had Malai kofta/paneer cooked so weirdly even for a SF Bay Area restaurant. If you are in a mood for North Indian grub head over to Chat Cafe in Dublin for a far better execution. Server was argumentative when we complained about the Malai Paneer, eventually he revealed the head cook was out that evening. Perhaps the kitchen staff didn't have appropriate guidance that night. But after a rather pricey fare for a sub-standard Indian food experience, I am not risking it again. The fact that there were hardly any Asian-Indian faces should have been a waqrning sign. read more

Walked in on a Saturday night and was met with a sigh and "it's Saturday night" response when we asked for a table for 4. Uh thanks we know? Came back after "checking" and said they could not sit us. Perhaps it was the fact we had 2 kids albeit one was a sleeping baby? Whatever the reason, even if totally booked, the host's reaction could have been more professional and apologetic. Have been here for a work day lunch and I must say they have decent combo options. We were attended promptly and were given space for our discussions through. The ambience was calm and food was really good. There are no much options for appetizers except for gobi manchurian and aloo. I ordered gobi manchurian and I was very much disappointed by the small serving size. I have ordered the paneer jalfrezi combo for the main course and it was yum. The garlic kulchas were crispy and soft and the quality was great. I had more kulchas than normal and enjoyed the food thoroughly. The server was decent and was polite. One of the best Indian restaurants I have ever been to. As someone from Indian descent, I am highly critical (more than usual) of Indian/Pakistani food. Frontier Spice definitely deserves 5 stars in all categories! The owners chose a very nice location in Downtown Pleasanton. The decor and ambiance of the restaurant definitely complements the restaurant nicely. I was worried that they wouldn't be kid friendly, but the waiters were very friendly to my 1 year old. While the menu has most of the traditional indian favorites (i.e., chicken tikka masala), they also incorporate some non traditional indian dishes (i.e., calamari as an appetizer, panna cotta for dessert). We ordered a variety of items and we were not disappointed with anything! Any restaurant that starts off with a papadum starter definitely sets the tone for a good meal :) read more

Decent ambience and really awesome service you get.. love the custom made warm bread selection, which you don't get at other Indian buffet places, which is almost run of the mill.. the buffet selection is not huge, which is what I like. The two star is for the buffet as it was good and tasty but the service was not good. They closed the buffet at 3:30 and asked us to leave 12 minutes after. If the buffet is open till 3:30 pm asking customers to leave ten minutes later is quite unreasonable. Beside the waiter was not pleasant and gave us quite an attitude. The chicken pieces were on the tough side and for $40 which included two butter chickens, rice and naan, I wish it would have been a better experience. And another thing I FORGOT to mention is that after you eat the butter chicken, it will leave a really bad aftertaste in your mouth, so just beware. We went here for a dinner date. Both I and my husband love the place. The place serves high quality Indian food with lots of flavors. Tandoori mixed grill dinner - three kinds of tandoori chicken. Best tandoori chicken ever! The chicken was flavorful and juicy. Sea bass masala - lots of layers of flavor and the sea bass was crispy outside and soft inside Sun dried tomato Kofta dinner - a vegetarian dish that is very tasty Nann - nothing to rave about but good If you love spicy food, you probably should ask for extra spicy. We did not and the food was not spicy at all. But we are impressed with the many layers of flavors that all the dish had. read more

Tried this place for lunch today and rated 3 stars as opposed to 2.5 simply for the fact it's decent Indian food that is reasonably priced in Pleasanton. The Server was kind but if they are trying to compete with the upscale restaurant scene on Main Street the place could use some TLC. We ordered the following: Garlic Naan- the Naan was very thin compared to traditional Naan I have grown accustom too but the flavor was good Butter chicken - the dish is accompanied by a scoop of green salad, rice and Dal (soup). Disappointed there were so many cheap cuts of chicken and the sauce was comparable to the bottled sauces sold in Cost Plus. My co-worker ordered the Potato & Pea Samosa and the Chana Masala. Both were good but not great. I will keep searching for an Indian restaurant to designate as my go to in the Dublin/Pleasanton area. For now I stick to SF or Fremont when I'm craving some Curry's or Biryani read more

I would have given this restaurant a 5 star review as the food is delicious, the meat is high quality and service is fast, however, after a delicious meal and it being linen tablecloths they make you box up your own food at your table. Being that it's a fine dining experience with linen tablecloths and Indian food is very saucy and messy, the last thing you want to do after such a nice meal is box up your own very saucy food, getting your fingers dirty and having to do work when the servers could and should be doing this. read more

Last Sunday after a family event we stopped at frontier spice.In appetizer tried gobi manchurian and chipotle chicken,both were tastefully awesome. Paneer Masala and dal palak were also perfect with butter naan and garlic naans. Kids liked their mango lassi with not too much sugar in that. I ate their buffet today and, as a vegetarian, I still ended up very ill with a migraine, nausea and stomach upset until 10 PM tonight. I had to take pain medication and sleep my symptoms off. We have tried a lot of places around, to an extend that we stopped eating indian food outside. And then we found this place. No extra spices or color, just pure delicious indian food.
