Saw this place on TikTok and convinced the fam we should stop on our way to mission beach. Such a good choice for lunch. I got the bacon cheeseburger with onion rings and a chocolate shake. It was all so good. The staff were super friendly and overall pretty quick considering it is basically cooked to order. The seating is outdoor, small town in the pines, sup chill.

Stopped by while on a road trip & it was packed! Service was great & we didn't wait long for our food given how many people were there. Great place to stop for a good old fashioned burger. Burger was nice & hot! (Leaving 4 stars since some of our fries were slightly undercooked). Still regretting not getting a milkshake lol. We had originally just ordered two bacon cheeseburgers & a side of fries, but the cashier recommended I make one a meal since it would be cheaper & we'd get a drink - Always appreciate a cashier who does this vs trying to upsell. Ended up leaving a tip because of this. Great mom & pop to support - would stop by again if in the area!

WOW! I can't believe I slept on this place for all 4 years I lived in Descanso. Ordered the Mtn Bacon Double Cheeseburger with pepper jack, it was one of the best burgers I'd ever had, and it was HUGE! The portions for what you pay are very generous. My dogs also loved their puppy patties. Will def need to come back for some ice cream next time!

Made this as a roadside stop on way to San Diego after my daughter sent me the tik tok video. The chocolate shake was delicious. Onion rings cooked fresh and hot served with ranch. The iced tea is unsweetened with a fruity flavor. Seating is outdoors with some umbrellas. Other tables in the sun I would not be able to tolerate. They play 50s/60s music. Service was pleasant. Overall a good experience and a nice stop close to the freeway that isn't a chain.

First time here. The customer service was awesome. The spicy chicken sandwich was delicious and had a decent kick. Onion rings were delicious as well. But the real star was the chocolate malt. Food was well priced and I felt like I went back in time for an honest roadside meal. What a hidden gem.

So delicious! Such a great and nostalgic stop on our way back to Phoenix from San Diego. I wish I took pictures of the food. Hefty serving of fries and the chocolate shake was amazing!

I must agree with some other reviews...way over-priced & the meat used for the burgers was pale and tasteless. Disappointed. :-(

It is known for their delicious natural gelato as well as offering dairy free and vegan gelato. When we arrive, the line was all the way down the street and it was a very hot 85° day on La Jolla Cove. Even with the ocean breeze, it was a baking day. By the time we got to the line after finding parking, which was very packed, but bearable, the line had died down to about 15 people. I appreciated that while we were in line they had a nice young lady outside giving samples of the featured flavor called sunrise, which was delicious. It was like orange pineapple, and it was really good. One of the gelato servers came out to the line and got us from the middle back of the line and said he would be ready to serve us and so we took that as a really good excellent customer service practice. He could tell that the others in front of us we're going to get served shortly by his counterparts within the store so he grabbed the people near the back of the line to get us to get our gelato sooner. The four of us each chose what we wanted and I will tell you that the flavors were absolutely delicious. I chose the non dairy / vegan Coconut Coffee Flavor Gelato, and also another flavor. It was AMAZINGLY creamy and the waffle cone was perfectly sweet! Everyone enjoyed their gelato and we really appreciated this place. Apparently they are comparable to authentic Italian gelato...like, in Italy! Overall, I highly recommend this place. They have other locations, and I think that they are growing their brand throughout San Diego. Yummy!

That prompted me to make a final visit as I used to frequent the PB store when it was still around. The original Vietnamese owner started the business in 2014 by sourcing unique flavors from Hawaii. With more competition and inflation, it was sad to hear that Hammond's was no longer able to sustain their mission anymore. I fondly recall one visit in which I came with a large group, and we split a 32-flavor flight. I loved being able to sample all of the different varieties, but it was hard to get to all of them before they started melting. Hammond's was one of the first local ice cream shops that offered flights as an option. The menu here also served floats, shakes, sundaes, and cookie skillets. I don't recall such options at the PB spot which focused on scoops and flights. There were about 30 flavors written on a marker board posted on a wall. The choices didn't seem as fruity or exotic compared to the early days. On this occasion, I opted for a medium sized cup with two different flavors... Mackinac Island Fudge and Strawberry Cheesecake. The first one had swirls of chocolate from the upper peninsula of Michigan mixed in with a vanilla base. The second one was a fairly standard variety that you will find at most ice cream places. I did like the collections of ice cream scoops that were mounted on the walls as decor. This North Park venue had several tables and a countertop for inside seating. It was likely the largest of what was one time three locations of the business. Thank you to Hammond's for your past decade of service to the SD community!

Their goblet chandelier, live wood countertop and mural in the back are the same, but what they're scooping and serving has sadly changed. Well this place is closing soon and I can see why.

THE BAKED BEAR @ PACIFIC BEACH…read more There isn't a dedicated parking lot, but you can usually find street parking or neighborhood parking nearby. Personally, I've always had the best luck with neighborhood parking since there are typically more spots available. Just keep in mind that Pacific Beach gets extremely busy, especially on weekends. By the afternoon, parking can be pretty difficult because everyone is heading to the beach and all the restaurants and dessert spots in the area. I've been wanting to try The Baked Bear for a while, specifically for their famous ice cream sandwiches. One of the best parts is that you get to customize your sandwich by choosing your cookie flavors and ice cream. I went with the Blue Monster ice cream between two chocolate chip cookies, and it was so good! It was super flavorful, and the cookies paired perfectly with the ice cream. My only downside is that the portions are much bigger than I expected. The ice cream sandwich is definitely large enough to share between two people, so I'd definitely recommend splitting one unless you're really craving something sweet. It was delicious, but it left me feeling a little too full afterward. The staff was very friendly, and the service was great. The inside of the shop is on the smaller side, though, and I did notice that the tables were a bit sticky and dirty when we sat down. I wish they cleaned the tables more frequently as customers came and went. Overall, I'd still recommend stopping by if you're in Pacific Beach. It's a great dessert spot that's only a short walk from the beach, making it the perfect treat after spending the day by the ocean.
