Well... this place is convenient for a quick yogurt ice cream if you are around DC Zoo (also I think there are only few Frozen Yo left around the city). However, they mixed the ice cream business and the concept of Frozen Yo with French Fries!!! I believe they are only looking to diversify their revenues, the bad thing is that both business are very incompatible... When you go inside looking for yogurt ice cream and something fresh there is a very strong oil/frying smell... terrible! Wow, this place has gotten crazy expensive since the last time I went (In CoHi a year ago). $7.50 for a cup that I usually would have paid $3 for. This is the best frozen yogurt I've had so far... and believe me I've been to A LOT of froyo places. The yogurt is creamy and full of flavor, unlike other places who serve froyo that is icy or bland. On top of that, the prices are lower than most places in the area and they sell bottles of water for 29 cents. Tons of flavors, tons of toppings, great tasting, affordable, and a clean environment... This place is greatly understaffed. One guy was running around trying to get both the fries and frozen yogurt all set up. I ended up waiting about 10 minutes just to pay for my frozen yogurt. The only reason I didn't start is because they charge by weight and I would have just felt bad. The frozen yogurt itself was good but I would have liked a little more toppings. Very underwhelmed. My friends and I were getting dinner in the area and came here with a dessert craving. We got there on a Friday night around 8:10 and even though the store supposedly closes at 9, the store keeper rushed us, telling us we only had 10 minutes cause he was closing up. As I gazed at his cloying creation, I casually quizzed what he clumped up and he gleefully replied, "cheesecake, cookies n cream, peanut butter, and toasted marshmallow flavors". Loved their frozen yogurt! What made their shop convenient was that it was located in front of the National Zoo. Being frugal myself, I avoided the food sold at the zoo and instead went across the street for better quality and cheaper frozen yogurt. I usually would get the sorbet when I went. It was great being able to get the swirl of ice cream and adding the toppings. The topping bar is extensive. I highly suggest portion control because you do have to weigh the cups. They serve only one size cup which doesn't help with portion control. Well, I can't say I was surprised when the barber shop that was in this location closed down. I was also concerned that another nail salon or tanning shop was going to open up there and that is clearly something the area does not need. So I was rather excited when I saw that a Frozen Yogurt shop was opening! This is literally right across from the zoo and quite frankly there aren't THAT many food options in the immediate vicinity. You can walk down to Cleveland Park or the other way towards the Woodley Park metro - but aside from the zoo bar and 7-11, that was really it. Now, whether frozen yogurt counts as FOOD is another matter, but regardless, this place will be SLAMMED once the warmer weather is here. I can already see the lines out the door. My husband and I checked it out right after it opened and the concept is the same as other frozen yogurt joints in town - it's self serve, charged by weight with a nice toppings bar at the end of the line. They offer an interesting variety of flavors - ranging from the usuals of chocolate and vanilla to more interesting flavors like red velvet and pumpkin pie. While I have not tried them all, I have yet to find a flavor I didn't like. The first time we went in, the staff member asked if we had been there before and then explained the process to us. The place is small and somewhat awkwardly laid out - but it still works. I do expect that it will get a bit crazy when it gets crowded though. You can mix and match flavors - although sometimes the yogurt comes out really fast so you have to be careful otherwise you get more than you bargained for. The toppings bar included both fresh fruit and dry toppings - they also have a variety of "drizzles" - like caramel and raspberry sauce which is a nice touch. They also have mochi rice cake toppings which my husband discovered and is now addicted to. So then you go and pay and it is a bit pricey - but you can control that by getting less yogurt. Probably the worst frozen yogurt I've had in my life. 1st, the cheesecake frozen yogurt's machine wasn't working. Then, the cake batter frozen yogurt spew way more in my cup before I could even get the thing to stop. I recently visited FroZen Yo again with my boyfriend after we spent a day at the zoo. Once again, I was very pleased by how refreshing the yogurt (and cheap $0.29 water) was after a long trek up that hill at the zoo. We visited the zoo sometime in early March and it was the first truly nice day out (it was in the 60's as opposed to being in the 30's, which was the norm for most of this past winter!). It was such a nice comfort to sit down and rest our legs and converse over a nice cup of yogurt topped with fresh fruit. FroZen Yo is truly strategic for opening up a store right across from the zoo! I've been searching for the perfect froyo. FroZen Yo presents a good option to those who feel that only they can get their froyo just right. As for the variety, I wonder if there actually are more topping options than, say, Pinkberry, or if it just seems that way because you get to choose your own. Despite the multiple options for froyo flavors, I always end up getting the original tart after sampling a couple of the more adventurous flavors. I don't recall what the per pound unit price is, but I rarely find myself going over $3.00. But that may be because I gravitate towards the lesser-weighing coconut shavings and nuts, as I assume the fruit toppings would weigh more. If you want your froyo to cost less, opt for the less healthier options? :) Overall, the froyo is pretty good, and you can't really go wrong when you're choosing your own toppings. But I think one of the best features of this establishment is that it stays open late. I think I recall reading 11pm on the door. Oh, and the reason there aren't more pictures of this place up here? My favorite frozen yogurt shop of all the new ones that have popped up in recent years. Why? They have tangy and regular frozen yogurt. They have no sugar added frozen yogurt. They have dairy free frozen yogurt! And it tastes delicious. Both mango and kiwi-strawberry dairy free were superb. And the flavors are always so varied and unique. Goes way beyond "tangy" or "sweet." The toppings bar is nice and varied, as well. Not to mention, free hot fudge! I suppose you could go too crazy, and end up with a $7 yogurt since you pay by weight. But since tangy sweet et al are so expensive to begin with, so long as you have a modicum of self-restraint, you'll come out ahead in price, taste, variety, and quality at fro-zen-yo. This is a very poorly run establishment. The frozen yogurt comes out extremely quickly so it fills up your cup whether you want that much or not. My yogurt ended up being $9. Then the red velvet yogurt was sour and had clearly gone bad. I went back into the store and he wasn't even surprised that it had gone bad and gave me $6 back because I had eaten some already. If my yogurt was sour any good business would give me all of my money back. If I get sick from this I will be taking the issue further up to management. Unacceptable. read more

I'm not going to lie -- I'm a frozen yogurt fan. I've tried lots of frogurt spots in DC and FroZen Yo definitely ranks among the best. Wonderfully tasty, dense, and smooth yogurt with lots of flavor options. Toppings bar isn't all that extensive, but they've got fresh fruits and all the cookie crumbles and candies you could want. Hot fudge and caramel sauce are FREE. Conveniently located right across the street from the zoo, which makes it a fun place to end an afternoon looking at pandas and gorillas. 4.5 stars read more

This is a Sweet Frog knock off with good yogurt and decent toppings. But this place is not a sweet frog. And I liked the variety of flavors (maybe 12 or 16?) - lots of options for folks who are worried about sugar free or lactose free or fat free or whatever. And I liked the do-it-yourself toppings - they were fresh and good quality. What I didn't like was the price - damn, it's tough to pay by the ounce when your kid puts 19 peanut m-and-m's on her yogurt - and most of the yogurt itself. I took particular exception to the tangy yogurt, a flavor I usually love but was really icy and melty (is that possible in the same cup?) here. Went to the zoo and followed up at this place. This is some of the creamiest froyo I've ever had, which for most people is a plus. While I prefer the lighter texture of Menchies frozen yogurt, this place is great too. I liked that there were marshmallows in the toppings bar, which is strangely absent at other self serve places, Menchies included. I tried the birthday cake, pumpkin pie, cookies and cream, cappuccino, and cheesecake flavors, all of which were very good and rich but weren't distinctly flavored. Flavor kind of loses out to texture here. But, hey, bad froyo doesn't really exist... It's still froyo, right? I still recommend this place, especially if you like your frozen yogurt dense and creamy! read more
