Many moons ago, I visited my college roommate from Rochester, New York. Swearing that Rochester has some of the best comfort food she has ever tasted (I stupidly laughed in her face), she brought me to Fruit & Salad Co, ordered me a broccoli and cheddar cheese soup with half of a tuna fish sammie. I have never looked back. I would visit Rochester JUST to go to Fruit & Salad. The restaurant is adorable, the people are nice, and the food is amazing. So amazing that I have my friend's mom ship me frozen mason jars of the aforementioned broccoli and cheddar soup every other month. It's like crack and puts Panera to shame. I've never had a bad meal from here. The only downside is that for a sandwich, soup, and salad joint, I do find the prices a tad pricey. Butt the quality of the food is worth every single penny. This is a must visit every time I'm in Rochester. Highly recommend. read more

Wow, I don't know why it took me so long to check this place out. I always get skeptical when buying a salad. There is nothing worse then paying $10 for a salad it and have it be bite size with no toppings. That is not the case at all here! I got the soup and salad combo and a drink-it cost me $13. That is a little pricey, but after I saw the size of the salad and tasted how delicious everything was, i wouldn't think twice about going there and spending that type of money again. I got the Mediterranean salad and lentil soup..it was great! the salad dressing was very lemony, which I LOVE! the feta cheese was great, it was a huge portion and all the veggies on the salad were nice and fresh. The soup was delicious also, I don't think i have ever had lentil soup other than my mothers. this was really great! next time i go and i getting a chopped salad. They are $9.95, but they are huge! i was drooling over the one that was on the table next to me! My parents love this place, I think they come here every other week for breakfast or lunch- it's really delicious. We recently had breakfast there and I got the eggs Benedict which was wonderful - it's my mom's favorite so I ordered it too, and I was very happy with it. The service was excellent, and everybody else's meals looked great. The building is adorable, it's in the Basin and it looks to be one of those buildings from the 1800s that's been completely renovated on the inside and it's very quaint. read more

I love the cheeseburger here, I tell everyone it's the best in town. However I need to stick to that. I ordered chicken and kale salad, large bowl. It had almost no chicken, be very careful not to order to go as it comes already packaged up. I should have opened it and complained, but I didn't. The location is a non factor as it is near the mall, yet far enough away to separate itself from the chain restaurants nearby. My only knock against the restaurant is that the owners/managers belittle and criticize the employees in front of customers, which creates an awkward dining experience and discomfort if a meal needs to be sent back for any little adjustment. I was very disappointed with my experience here. I LOVE salad and was looking forward to enjoying a visit to a restaurant that I assumed took salads seriously. I ordered a chopped salad... it was nothing but iceberg and romaine lettuce...not chopped at all and pretty sludge-y. I would've thrown it away in my kitchen. There was one small piece of cauliflower and broccoli. The only flavor was from the shredded parm. The prices? First of all, the place is very clean and open with plenty of seating and the staff is very friendly. The menu has a lot on it so there are many choices, however I have a few things that I think need improvement. First of all, my sister and my mother both ordered quiche because they absolutely love quiche. The problem was is the quiche did not have crust, which in their mind makes it not a true quiche and they would not have ordered it if they knew. I would think most people would think a quiche in most restaurants has a crust and perhaps it doesn't look as good on their menu board if you say crustless quiche. However, I WOULD like a crustless quiche because I watch carbs, so I say they should put that on the board. That is probably the most challenging part of a quiche because,if you don't do the crust right it doesn't taste good and of course it's cheaper and easier to make a crustless quiche. Second, I thought the price was a bit high compared to other places. I got a coffee a half a sandwich and a small salad and it was $19 after tip. The coffee left something to be desired as it wasn't very strong. We decide to go over to the mellow mug only to find out that it had closed. the coffee may not be a deterrent for those that like coffee on the weaker side, but I often decide where I'm going based on who has a better cup of coffee. I thought the fresh fruit on the side of the sandwich was impressive and the salad was pretty good although it lacked romaine hearts. It was a Caesar salad but there were very few romaine hearts. I ordered a half of a panini with salami and pepperoni and cheese. The sandwich came and cheese was not fully melted and the pepperoni and salami were in a complete stack they were not folded or moved at all it would like somebody took off four slices and just put it in this middle of the sandwich. I think really made it so you were biting through a thick layer of cold cuts. The bread was not the best I've ever had. Saying all of this I may go back if I need something healthy or I may give it another shot to try a different menu item because it wasn't a holy terrible experience but I was underwhelmed. As a new family of 5, this is our go to takeout restaurant. Everyone gets what they want and it is ready quickly. It all tastes fresh and delicious. I've ordered wraps, paninis, salads and the grilled salmon dinner. I love the buffalo chicken wrap, the lemon artichoke soup, and the grilled salmon is crispy on the outside and delicious on the inside. I recommend it to friends and neighbors. read more

My mom and I ordered 2 salads- The Monterey and The Classic. Both containers were HUGE and filled 95% with iceberg lettuce, barely any toppings. The description of the Monterey salad said "mixed greens," so I was expecting spring mix/spinach and was disappointed when it was all iceberg lettuce. Barely any substance to the salads and the order was $27. Go to Wegmans instead if you're looking for a good salad. read more

The only thing that keeps me coming back is the Lemon Artichoke soup. It's so creamy and amazing.. but the thing that keeps me from rating this place any higher is the prices. I just stopped in for lunch and ordered a cup of soup and a chicken artichoke wrap. It came to over $15.00 --- for lunch! I think the prices are a little high for the type of food served. Its soups - wraps - and panini's with a quiche thrown in there for fun/craziness. Today no one was there - except me - so I wonder if prices are as high as they are because demand is so low. 2 stars for delicious food. Our waiter, Justin, was very nice & genuine. No problems there. However, my cousin had an extremely uncomfortable encounter with the owner this summer. The two of us grabbed dinner one evening in July 2018. She had gotten a large salad and was putting the rest in a to-go container. A few pieces of lettuce had fallen on to the floor, which the two of us laughed about before she was going to pick them up. The owner had been around to our table a couple times that night. This time, he came to pick up the pieces of lettuce, making a funny comment like, "oh did you miss your mouth?", and then made a very unsettling action. Without asking, or saying anything, he reached down, with his head in my cousin's lap(!) to get the last piece of lettuce on the floor. We both exchanged looks at each other, as if to say "oh my god! What's happening?!" And he left afterwards. This left her feeling VERY uncomfortable, which should NEVER happen, here, at a family restaurant nor elsewhere. Making a complaint here, but this should be known to further customers--this is on the verge of harassment. Unacceptable. read more

We have been frequent guests at this restaurant since it opened years ago. Tonight we thought we'd try curbside pickup because we are quarantined. Expecting less than usual was a bad guess. I'm usually very satisfied with fruit & salad but this was very disappointing. The salad had an excessive amount of watered down dressing which completely weighed it down & made it soggy by the time I drove home. I tried to take the top half out in hopes that it wasn't drenched as well but it was. I highly recommend getting the dressing on the side so you don't end up wasting your money or the salad. read more

Food is fantastic and they do a great job of working through the lunch rushes in the week. Being one of the only really good lunch spots on route 96, all of the business people stop here, so fast and good customer service is important. My only complaint here is the layout... Can be somewhat of a pain to have people stand in line back towards the dining room. Not really the natural way people would stand and wait so it gets awkward. read more

The salads are really the best you are going to find anywhere. Super fresh, good combinations, great homemade dressings, and they are even big enough to fill my fat ass for the second half of the work day. The Montery Chopped salad and the Santa Fe chicken are my go-to's but I have also had a few others which are also delicious. The food here is fantastic, but the service can be slow and sometimes rude. For an expensive place you would think they'd be nicer. The food quality makes up for it, but I only go once a month. If it was a little cheaper I'd go more often. My favorites are: -The Banana Bread French Toast for breakfast, with crispy bacon of course. -The Waldorf Chicken Salad Sandwich for lunch (great chicken salad with apples, grapes and a little honey) -When it is colder out I add some Broccoli Cheddar Soup. You can get it with half a sandwich, which is great. The soup isn't enough on its own, but it plus a full sandwich is too much for me. This place would've been 5 stars if I didn't witness right by the front door two different people bad mouth coworkers and management and how "no one knows what they're doing" ... The new location in the charming Hamlet of Bushnells Basin is visually stunning- in a lovely atmospheric white country house in Connecticut kind of way-handsome white panel board walls & old fashioned traditional fireplace mantel included! This is so much more inviting than their former mall location that we regularly gladly leave the mall to come HERE for a satisfying bite! The good: visually very attractive, very pleasant guy taking orders, as was the young guy serving up the food. The bad: pricing is significantly out of whack - $7 for a takeaway small plastic container filled with hard underripe fruit. The ugly: the acoustics are atrocious - think dive bar happy hour where everyone has to nearly scream to be heard by the person sitting next to them; the older guy working there who threw an attitude at a customer, telling her "I'm only trying to help" with a really snippy put-upon tone while she just looked confused; toss on top the 60-something plastic surgery disaster area who nearly ran over an 84-year-old woman walking with a cane and looked put upon as a result. The upshot: don't bother trying to eat there (at least not inside) during the lunch hour, you'll leave with a headache from the noise. The food was mostly tasty enough, if you don't count the overpriced plastic 'fruit'. Be prepared to look the other way at the prices. They are easily 50% higher than they need to be. read more

Since Panera has become the great semi-healthy-quick-lunch/dinner spot, I have become bored with their menu. This was a nice change of pace. Their menu is quite extensive, but a little more home-style than Panera. Portions are about right, and their sides of fruit or a small salad are more than Panera would give you. 3 stars for being more expensive than Panera, but I'd definitely come back. I love this place. Been going there since it opened. The owner is so nice, especially with the kids. The food is a little pricey but it really reflects the good quality. I would much rather go here than any of the businesses around where you might pay less but come out dissatisfied. The lemon artichoke soup is a must and the thanksgiving sandwich yummy too. For someone who is a fussy about her salad, I try to get here as often as I can! I was reading the reviews about "rude staff"; I did not find this to be my experience even during a busy lunch hour. Bryan my server was polite and friendly. When I hesitated at my salad choice, he promptly picked up a menu to show me the different kinds of salad. I had the 1/2 chicken salad sandwich with a salad. I decided to take it home rather than dine in. The chicken salad was delicious! The generous fruit slices; watermelon, pineapple, cantaloupe made it a healthy lunch! The salad was huge and filled with everything I loved; NO limp lettuce, a mix of wonderful greens, toppings, including my favorite iceberg lettuce. The vinaigrette dressing didn't drown the salad; just enough for a good tasting salad! $15.00 for lunch, okay so it was $$, however, I would rather spend that for lunch than waste that money on a skimpy, limpy, lunch! Very good wraps and sandwiches and absolutely huge salads. The interior was renovated when the Fruit and Salad Company moved down to the basin and it's made the space much more open and bright. As a salad and sand which place it's a little more than I like to spend but the Cobb wraps are so good I can't not stop by every now and then. read more

I love how quickly you can place an order and it's ready to go! I enjoy the Sampler Salad with tofu, and if I'm in a carb-o-load mood I get the lentil burger, it's fantastic! The only real issues I've experienced at Fruit and Salad Co is parking, but I make sure to get there before noon to get my to-go order. Their hot tea selection is great! read more
