After enjoying the joys of a graduation, everyone was extremely hungry and needed something to eat. With this being the case, a suggestion of the frying pan came up so we gave it a try. Only thing to keep in mind is they don't take reservations and you'd have to have a good weather day to enjoy this place to the fullest. To start off this place has an awesome concept and layout. It's basically a restaurant/bar on a boat. On a nice day, I would highly recommend this place for drinks or happy hour with friends, co workers , family , significant others or whomever. The menu itself has some pretty good options to choose from as well. You basically order your food and drinks at the bar and once it's ready the buzzer goes off and you pick up your food yourself. (Self service style) This time around, I had the fish and chips and I must say it was rather tasty. The fish was coated evenly and cooked to a golden brown. Along with the fish, the chips were a pleasant surprise as well as they were sprinkled with old bay seasoning which enhanced the taste. This is a cool place right on the water for a scenic dinner with pretty casual fare. My friend and I visited this place on a Friday evening and it was almost getting crowded, I guess for happy hour and the great view of the sunset. I had fried rice and it was so tasty and pretty cheap! The only problem we had was with the "bouncers" (I guess? or hosts?) who would not believe that my friend and I, despite us being 20, would not attempt to buy drinks and hassled us for about 10 minutes and said they would not let us in, even after checking our ID's. We were clearly underage and there for dinner and no intentions of drinking so that whole situation was a bit weird. With a light ocean breeze and the sun setting on the horizon, you have some gorgeous views. While the food isn't great, the drinks are quite decent. We got a pitcher of sangria for a couple of friends and it had a decent amount of alcohol and a lot of different fruits inside. They have good calamari, ribs, and I can attest to their burgers. I used to come here a lot and loved the atmosphere and not to mention the burgers! I had a reservation for Sunday and went with a few friends. I get why their ordering is super weird and the servers don't take orders anymore but the food was disgusting. I ordered a burger cooked medium and it was completely raw in the middle. I asked for a new burger and it came a little more cooked but the meat was completely raw in the middle. Like the burger was defrosted on the grill and taken off too soon. The server wasn't even apologetic about the raw burger, like it was something that happened all the time. The second time he asked if I wanted something else. Why would I want something from a kitchen that can't even cook a burger properly??? They could have at least taken the burger off my bill since clearly it was inedible. The beer didn't even taste like Montauk Watermelon beer. I'm sure it wasn't. This is a huge disappointment and I have to say I'll never go back or recommend it to anyone. This is hands-down my favorite bar in NYC. We usually come for happy hour but have made the occasional mid-day-on-the-weekend visit. Decor: It's a barge and boat docked in the Hudson River so, as you can imagine, it has a nautical theme to it. I guess the story is that the boat was pulled up from the bottom of the harbor so it's pretty rusty. The chairs are mainly plastic, with some exceptions, and the tables are all sturdy metal/tile. It's not the prettiest place but it is unique and totally cool. Bathroom: The bathroom is not clean (rusty boat...), decently lit, and very utilitarian. It's not somewhere to hang out but it gets the job done. Staff: The bartenders are FAST and stick to business. It's almost like, no matter the crowd size, they are firing on all cylinders - which keeps the drinks flowing! There is plenty of staff that is always around cleaning up empty bottles and food garbage and a bouncer or two walking around. The bouncers can be annoying, thinking they must move EVERYONE that isn't sitting down out of the way, but it isn't a huge deal. Food/Drink: They have an awesome menu of delicious food and a full bar w/ lots of selections. My favorite is the hot dogs, Old Bay fries, and the burgers, but I'll try some other things soon enough. Also, they used to just have buckets of Coronas and pitchers of Sangria so that's all I order (out of tradition). There are plenty more beer options now. Everything is clearly displayed on the menus too. Value: Things can get a bit pricey after a bucket, or two, but it's definitely worth it. Decided to drop by on a super busy Memorial Day. There was a wait, which was fine because line moved very quick. The views here are gorgeous. Security were friendly and the bartenders were quick & efficient. The white sangria was amazing & so refreshing. Friend had a frozen dark & stormy & avocado crab cake which she enjoyed. I had garlic fries and the corn on the cob. Both were okay. The music playing was a good mixture. This is def a great location for scenery, drinks and to chill with a group of friends. I've gone past the Frying Pan a time or two before but was always too intimidated by the long lines along the Hudson to gain access. Biked past on a sunny Sunday afternoon and with no line - we decided to stop in! The Frying Pan is basically a bunch of boats/barges(?) tied together with a bunch of bars and many seats! We opted to face the strong winds and went up the spiral staircase to sit on the top level. Beautiful views of the best state in the entire country (NJ!). Super casual and a great spot to hang out with friends. The food looked great but we were looking for a liquid diet and got a pitcher of sangria for $40. It was actually really tasty but it would have been nice if there was more of a variety of fruit and if it came with a big spoon to mix it up before pouring. Will definitely be back for food! Drunkards beware, you'll get kicked out by the bouncer if your group gets too rowdy - the table behind us was asked to leave. Went here last night with a group of coworkers. It was an overcast night so the place wasn't too crowded so perfect for the crowd that hates crowds. My colleagues with the cash kept the pitchers coming with sangria (so delish!) and beer (Brooklyn Lager of course) which kept everyone happy. A refreshing spot on the west side away from the world but close enough to enjoy drinks after work. A great place for food as well with yummy burgers and fries. We only had Beer but the view was incredible. My favorite thing about the Frying Pan was the entrance with the railroad ties as my Fiance and I love trains. Then there is train car for a nice photo snap. The bathrooms were really cool and we loved the multi level seating. It did end up raining but there is a cover over the bar area. So it was actually nice watching the sky. Next time we want to eat and I will update my review. read more

Calamari - amazing! 3. Sangria - amazing! The food and drinks is a bit pricey here but you pay for the ambience and the environment avg drink $10-$14. You should get there early if looking to sit down and eat between. 5-7 during the summer months as it picks up after 8 and you can't get seating. What a cool place! It's the perfect summertime hang out joint. The Frying Pan is located on 26th and the water on a boat. You can feel the boat rocking a bit so if you can't handle that I don't recommend coming, especially since that and alcohol don't exactly mix. There's a bunch of seating areas on the top deck and the lower deck but note it gets crowded very quickly. Pitchers of beers run around $22 and sodas $2. I have been there twice both in the afternoon. Ambience: Most people are under 40. They play EDM music but not loud enough that you can't have a conversation. Get there as early as you can because it gets super packed and after a while finding a table is nearly impossible. The view is really nice, specially from the top. With that said, there is no shade up there, so wear a hat and/or sunblock. Service: There isn't table service but the people at the register were nice. Food/drinks: I had the hummus wrapped which was yummy. My friend had a cheeseburger with fries which she liked. They have a variety of craft beers. They also sell sangria and wine. They sell a frozen drink made out of rootbeer and rum. Unless you really like the taste of ginger, don't get this. Things are really overpriced here so expect to spend some dough. Great place for drinks and a bite with an amazing view! We got there at about 8 pm on a Monday and it was not crowded. It seemed the after work crowd was just leaving so there were plenty of tables opening up. The wait for upstairs dining was less than 5 minutes. Food: I got the clams and they were very good but I wished I had more broth for the sauce. The fish tacos were also good. My husband had been looking forward to the calamari as it has been quite good the last couple years. Unfortunately, we we very underwhelmed- there were a lot of peppers and not so much calamari. It seemed that it was old oil. The portion of calamari was very small for the price (and the peppers were probably to make it "look" like a bigger portion. It was not a share size in my opinion. Location: Having been to the Frying Pan many years ago when it was in complete disrepair, I have to say that it is impressive how many renovations have been done. It is quite beautiful at night . There are many nautical fixtures that are selectively lit, a fountain made out of an old propellar and the bathrooms incorporate the original feel of the boat. The staff was sufficient and efficient. This was a great reprieve from the brutal 90 degree weather. The breeze coming off the water was so refreshing and the ambiance was really cool and open. I like that they had fully streamlined ordering through the website and everything was delivered in single serve containers. It was the most Covid friendly restaurant I have been to in awhile. The hosts were friendly and explained procedures to us in a way that felt safe and inviting at the same time. We ordered the lobster roll and Caesar salad and both were fresh and delicious. A friend recommended this for our trip to NY and we will definitely be back. I deducted one star only because no one came back to check on us after we received our meals and trash from the single serve containers kept blowing away. Great place for a happy hour! The place has plenty of seating which is nice, great views of the Hudson, a nice breeze, and the whole shaking boat thing is fun. It's not the cheapest place in the city for happy hours, but w/e, I'd rather pay a little more and take a couple of buckets of corona on a boat. Also the burgers and fries were good. FYI, this place is only open when it's 65+ degrees. I came here a few weeks ago when it was ok weather, but not hot enough for this spot to be open. Anyways, I came here with my puppy (it's dog friendly, yay!) and the place was SUPER packed. But, it's spacious enough to fit hundreds of people. I LOVE this place. That Fact notwithstanding, I'm still going to give it four stars because there are some small cons to this place. The most poppin' nights are Friday & Saturday. If you approach the venue on those days, you'll notice a line extending south, almost a block long. Don't be alarmed by this. The line moves very rapidly (~10-15 minutes from the end of the line to entry). The battle has only begun at this point. Once inside, finding an open table (and additional chairs) for your party is the next hurdle. If you're like me and my crew, you've already sent in an advance team strictly to accomplish this mission. Once you've found a table and seats, you'll have to take turns venturing away for food and drinks, both of which must be ordered at the bar. There is no table service here (Not too big a problem). If you're rolling with a group, I recommend the Sangria Pitcher topped with seasonal fruit. There's also the option of a bucket of Coronas for the same price ($37). "What about the food?," you say. They've got something for everyone. Vegetarian options, Hot Dogs, Burgers, Wraps, Seafood... everything. I'm sure you'll find something you like. Their seasoned fries are excellent and they go with everything. Know before you go: Read the parking signs carefully! There is available street parking but in some nearby areas the "No Parking" times are at odd hours. So stay sharp and/or leave on time. read more

You could really get a fantastic table, a beer bucket, and enjoy the view. And boy is it a view! We were also lucky enough to see a helicopter take off (pretty cool, thanks NYPD). But otherwise, it's great in the summertime - the wind, the faint scent of salt in the air. Unfortunately, I get really seasick. Maybe an hour in, I'm pretty nauseous and ready to get off the boat. Some logistics: 1. They card when you get on, so you have to be 21+ to board. 2. You order the food and drink and you bring it to the table. Frying pan is known for its long wait so I went during the day time on a weekday. It was hot but the wind was fresh and even during off-peak hours, the seats with shades were all taken. The boat was beautiful, and it was spacious with boat top and all other areas had seats whereever possible. Drinks and food are expensive of course but you come here for the boat and its view. This was a great spot to have a drink and relax during our exploration of The Highline and surrounding area. It was quite a walk to get here but absolutely worth it. We only had drinks - they have a great system where you order at the bar and serve yourself. The prices are about average for NYC and the cocktail menu is extensive and creative. We scoped out a perfect table at the front of the barge just beyond an area that was hosting a private party. I ordered a Crabbie Cocktail (?) made with Ginger Beer and something else. It was good but not very cold. The restrooms downstairs were large and clean (something you don't find easily in NY). The review is a bit late but finally got to check out the Frying Pan on a Friday evening with a group of 9 before the end of season. Wanted to avoid the crowds so we came AFTER dinner and it was very spacious and we were able to grab a large table in the back, no problem. Ambience: 5/5 The ambience is what sets this place apart but the drinks and snacks were all pretty great too. Food: 4/5 Calamari- solidly delicious, good tartar sauce, and plenty to share. Cheesy risotto balls- surprisingly ooey and gooey even while on the breezy water! Cape cod lobster roll- not the greatest, heavy handed on the mayo and lemon... would recommend doing the smaller shareables instead. The side of old bay fries were well seasoned. Drinks: 5/5 Bucket of 6 Coronas? Nice! Cucumber Cooler- favorite drink of the night, super refreshing! Riverside Sizzle- fruity, bubbly, and delicious. We ordered a bottle of white wine ($42 per bottle) and cocktails ($12 each) and enjoyed ourselves with the beautiful sunset. 5 stars for the venue. Imagine drinking on a big boat with amazing and unbeatable Hudson river view. I had heard about this place only once before, and wrote it off as an NY legend -- mostly because I'm usually only found on the UES. The four stars are for the location and setting. This is an excellent place to sit outside by the water, with great views and have a drink or snack. Very unique atmosphere with old rusted barge. And there is a great vibe among the crowd. We are more middle aged, and even though the crowd looks to be mostly in their twenties (there are a lot of young, attractive twenty somethings here) we didn't feel out of place. It is a large space and lots of nice spots to sit and hang out. As you might expect the drink and food prices are through the roof (maybe I'm just getting old) and the drinks are not very large, but you are going to pay a premium for a location like this. Along the Hudson River just off of W 26th St, lies Pier 66 Maritime which houses a barge with a bar and a kitchen and along side it is the actual boat known as The Frying Pan. We were not on a actual boat, but a large barge/moving pier...yes it sways back and forth a lot! We came last Monday for my birthday and the weather was great and it was not too crowded. The staff was nice enough to arrange tables for us on the stage. Thanks guys! The white wine Sangria is wonderful (get a pitcher) and their fruity/tropical cocktails are pretty tasty too. The food here is decent, but nothing mind numbing. I nibbled on the bruschetta platter and hummus platter. The had several dipping options for the bruschetta. My only complaint is that there was way more hummus and dips than bread for these platters. The food and drinks definitely don't detract from the awesome view and ambiance which is what people really come here for. My friends and I had a great time. So what are you waiting for? Fying Pan reminded me of a beach side bar - you order your drinks and food, pick your own seat, and don't have to worry about table service because it's all on you! First come, first serve with the tables and chairs, but there's PLENTY of them. You are literally on a BOAT.. so you may have to adjust to the rocking. Don't worry though.. just a little more alchie and you're good to go! We ordered a few pitchers of sangria, which I really enjoyed! They put mango and blueberries + white wine. Great to share and it's definitely a creeper. Too fast with this one, and you'll definitely be feeling it. Fries are $5 and kind of addicting when you're a bit tipsy.
