The vibes were super cute! It's located on the rooftop of Eataly, which made for a really fun setting. Although it's technically a rooftop I was a little underwhelmed that there wasn't much of a view since the patio is fully covered. I'm sure it was designed that way for a reason, but it wasn't quite what I expected when I heard "rooftop." We shared a couple of appetizers and some wine, and it ended up being the perfect spot for an after-work happy hour. The roof was open and most tables were directly under the sun. We chose one of the very few tables which was in the shade, although it was later under the sun and started getting hot. I've had several pasta dishes here over the years, but today's lunch was a disappointment. I ordered the Italian Lunch (starting at $26), with Insalata di Agrumi for appetizer and Spaghetti Chitarra alla Nerano for main. The citrus salad was fine but the spaghetti, which is supposed to come with fried zucchini, had 3 super thinly sliced of zucchini and that was it. I was expecting it to have thicker and at the least, more slices. When I first saw it, I thought there would be more inside, but there was none. Serra by Birreria has been on the bucket list for a while before going. We stumbled upon it super randomly. It's at the rooftop for eatly by Flat Iron. It's absolutely beautiful, with so much greenery. The rooftop is closed so it's perfect for colder weathers. I got the crab cakes, and it was okay! Nothing too crazy or too wowing, but I enjoyed it. Came to the Amalfi rooftop restaurant on a Thursday afternoon for lunch with co-workers! It was absolutely spectacular. Very busy so definitely make a reservation. Unfortunately after we were seated, our server disappeared for over 20 minutes. Another server came over and asked if we had been helped then proceeded to take our drink orders. His name was Robinson, he was wonderful!! He provided incredible drink recommendations and even offered to whip up something limoncello based (besides their signature spritz) that we would love. Multiple people at the table ordered this mystery lemon drink and they all said it was fantastic! FOOD: As a picky eater, the menu was a bit complex for me. I ended up ordering the Ravioli Di Zucca which was a nice portion of sweet squash stuffed ravioli. No meat. It was a light dish with minimal dairy. Perfect for lunch. Absolutely incredible. ATMOSPHERE: While this is a rooftop restaurant, I should note that it's very toasty inside. If you're looking for a rooftop in NYC that you can enjoy without a coat, this is your place! Eataly's rooftop bar is a convenient option for getting a break from the buzz of Madison Square Park and Flatiron just below. It's a popular spot, reservations are essential unless you're hoping to gamble on bar seating, which is first come, first served. The setting is nice, with themed decor and lots of light owing to the semi-covered roof. Service was also great, which was even more impressive given how busy they were. The food itself is the reason for 3/5 stars. It was good, not great. The pizza fritta was fine, but pretty bland. The dough had little flavor or texture going for it, and the marinara sauce was okay. Cheese was an afterthought for the dish. The tagliolini al limon was a pretty forgettable dish -- pasta was cooked well, but it was otherwise bland. The mafaldine was good, the pork ragu was excellent. At least one of our dishes finally had some flavor! Overall, this is a spot with fun vibes, but don't expect to be blown away by the food when you visit. read more

Um yea, go for the ambiance and decent service, but I do not recommend the food for the price. I don't know that I've paid $33 +tax and tip for brunch and left a restaurant so hungry before.* Came with a few friends for a girls brunch on a Saturday morning and the restaurant was pretty empty, about 15% occupied. It took a while to locate since the entrance is inside Eataly and you have to find the elevator to go to the 14th floor. More confusing is the restaurant is currently called "Alpina" (they redid all the signs and decor for the winter months apparently), so you don't see signs for Serra anywhere. The decor is gorgeous, you feel like you're in a garden. They put a lot of emphasis on tying the entire scheme together. The coffee was just ok, being it was a restaurant associated with Eataly, I was surprised they don't actually offer coffee drinks aside from a regular espresso $4, cappuccino $5 and latte $5. These were served true to sizes in Italy, quite small, like 5oz for a cappuccino. They had milk substitutes (oat and almond) available, and at least they didn't charge extra for those. The rest of the menu looked promising however I prob should've read the reviews in advance. When the food came out basically all the portions are on the meager side, and flavor-wise pretty mid. The crab cakes $28 came with two cakes, each were the size of silver dollar, with some frisée for salad, the pasta portions were like 1/2 to 2/3 what I normally see at normal Italian restaurants. I'll give them that the ingredients were fresh, and the desserts seemed ok (I didn't try the tiramisu or coppetta al cioccolato that our table ordered), but I definitely left disappointed. *after the meal I happened to take medicine that needed to be taken with food and it started giving me heartburn, because there was barely anything in my stomach. Eataly might be one of the best smelling stores in NY: truffles, cheese, and fresh produce abound with a few restaurants tucked away inside. We booked a lunch reservation at the rooftop greenhouse Serra, and expectations fell short. Given the time of year, the place was packed leading to some long waits for service. Fortunately, staff were quick to turn over tables. Like the other Eataly eateries, Serra offers up a full menu and a lunch pre fixe. We both opted for the pre fixe, splitting an order of rustic bread + olive oil as well. The bread came to the table chilled, though the olive oil was excellent with just enough grassy brightness. The quality of the food was solid: my Caesar salad featured torn lettuce tossed in a creamy, garlicky dressing, dusted with pecorino, and topped with an anchovy filet. Her roasted squash was topped with hazelnuts and honey over a honey whipped ricotta. The pastas were good, if uneven: my spaghetti pomodoro was light and bright, but lacking much depth of flavor. The ambience is beautiful and the cocktails are always amazing but if you're there for food- service always seems to be slow no matter what time of day. I've normally been quite satisfied with the menu as well. On this past visit our group had the strip steak, the roasted chicken and the canederli. The steak portion was small but it was cooked well. It could have used a better side- served with endive which wasn't beloved. The chicken was flavorful but dry. Serra by Birerria is located on the rooftop of a luxury Italian supermarket, Eataly, in the Flatiron District of Manhattan. The restaurant's "theme" changes seasonally. When I went, it was "Alpina" with "alpine-inspired dishes, cozy cocktails, après ski events." The décor was absolutely beautiful, inspired by a cozy cabin, the space feels like walking into a Winter Wonderland with lots of string lights, pine, flannel tablecloths, fuzzy pillows, etc. The food on the other hand... was exceptionally mid. Cicorie Insalate/Salad with FreeBird Chicken (5/10): The Cicorie has endive, radicchio, chicories, parm, balsamic, but I paid extra for it to be topped with chicken skewers. This was soo mid. The salad was basically a bed of quartered uncooked endives that were both bitter and unseasoned. The chicken was also flavorless and dry. I would not recommend getting this dish. My friends' dishes that I also tried were all just as average as my salad so don't hold onto hope for those either. If you end up coming, you will be paying a steep price for a mediocre meal... I am surprised to see so many low ratings bc I had a great meal at Serra. The two must-gets of the night were the branzino and the tiramisu. Yes, I know..you've had tiramisu hundreds of times...but trust me, this is better. The custardy part is unbelievably fresh and the presentation, with the sauce gushing over the dessert, was fun. Definitely shareable. The branzino was also very fresh and perfectly sauted - crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The tomatoes sliced on top were very ripe and had that summer tomato taste. The fried calamari and zucchini were perfectly fried; the zucchini was so good, we wished there had been more. The only meh dish, 3/5, was the tagliatelle with short rib red sauce. The sauce was meaty but the tagiatelle were just okay. Given Serra's access to Eataly's fresh pasta, I am at a loss to understand this. The service was great - I got ice with my water without having to ask! We needed the wheelchair access lift and the staff was very gracious about operating it and making sure that everything was okay. I am definitely coming back. read more

The last time I was in town (2.5 yrs ago), I was planning to dine here with a friend and my nephew. We were literally outside then changed our minds and got sushi instead. I wiggled my way in and got a round of drinks then took over a table that freed up. We had no intention of staying long, but 4 drinks later, I was stuck in memory lane with my grade school friend. There's something about this place. You get that indoor/outdoor experience that makes you feel like you're in Tuscany or the south of France - two of my favorite places. It's straight sexy no matter what corner you're in. Let me tell you about the service. The staff working on 4/20 was the dream team. The bartenders could easily be my besties. They were personable and made good ass drinks. Their spritz and espresso martini were such hits. I had two of each and saw most patrons also ordered them. I was telling my friend how happy everyone looked. Every time we looked around, people were living their best lives going to town on the dessert and all the foods. This rooftop eatery has a beautiful ambiance with plenty of fresh air and natural sunlight. We received great service from our server. Our drinks were brought promptly and the server offered to put in the kid's meals ahead of the remaining meals to get them fed first. The Garden Spritz was a perfectly light cocktail. The Cold Brew Negroni packed a flavorful punch that gave a sudden jolt of energy, great cocktail. Beautiful rooftop space and uncrowded, felt like a dream! We visited while the space was decorated as the Alpina ski resort. I believe this is a pop up experience that lasts until the Spring. I was shocked to see that it was spacious and not overly crowded. It was the perfect place to catch up with a friend. We ended up chatting for hours and never felt rushed to leave. We ordered two plates of the truffle carbonara based on our waiter's recommendation. I appreciate him sharing how they cook the dish, it made us excited to try it. The plating was beautiful and it was nice to see our pasta adorned with a healthy helping of truffle. I finished every last bite. The carbonara was creamy and the guanciale packed flavor. For dessert we split a tiramisu, which was heavenly! The cream was light and fluffy. The dessert wasn't heavy and was my ideal level of sweetness. I just may have found the best kept secret rooftop in the Flatiron/ Madison Park area! This review is for the bar and not the restaurant food. I will come back soon for the food and provide an update. But the vibes in this place are super cool! It's chill meets glam. It's a covered rooftop so no worries if it rains or if it's cold out. See pics! We stumbled upon a sign that said rooftop bar/restaurant while walking around Eataly. I was midway through my panini and was bummed when we realized it was a restaurant. But we decided to go to the bar rather than eat. Because we brought food inside they gave us some little plates when we sat down at the bar. What? How nice! They also brought water out for us. We didn't eat here but the food looked and smelled delicious and I can't wait to come back and try it. The crowd seems more on the mature side and the staff were very nice. The lights that cover the ceilings with grape vines swinging down give it that vibey appeal. I would definitely recommend this place for a drink at the bar or to sit and take in the scene. How to get here? Well, the entrance is to the left of the fresh pastas (left of the public restrooms). There's a narrow hallway that leads to an elevator. Go to the rooftop - button will say "Serra". It will look a bit sketch when the elevator opens but trust the path and it will bring you to this magical glimmering rooftop that looks stunning in the evening! Definitely a hidden gem. read more

First off, trying to find the restaurant was a bit of a struggle as it's within the large market of Eataly. It is located on the 14th floor in a beautiful greenhouse rooftop. The service was up to par and attentive. I started off the dinner with a cocktail. The cranberry frizzante was beautiful aesthetically and tasted sweet with a hint of alcohol. The crispy calamari was pretty good with a mayonnaise dip. It was not too crunchy nor soft. There were large pieces of squid and a couple of vegetables. The tagliatelle contains short rib ragu meat and al dente pasta which I do wish was softer as a personal preference. The bacio alla nocciolo dessert was nice and sweet.
