It's been a while since I been here. The inside has more of a modern look. We got the Boat 2 which was 40 Pieces, crispy duck clay pot, toro, and seared sake Toro. The duck skin was super crispy like a Peking duck from Chinatown. The Toro and sake Toro were so buttery in texture. The boat has so many delicious pieces but the Maki was my favorite. Who in their right mind thinks this is okay to serve to another human being. Usually the tuna here is so fresh and hot pink ( like it normally is). I do not plan on having food poisoning tonight so this will have a first class ticket to the trash can! Here you can find my favorite welcoming waiter, Ray, who is sure to make your experience fun and memorable! Everything I've sampled has been fresh and delicious. I'd hands down recommend getting a bento box. The salmon teriyaki bento box is my favorite! The portion is generous, and you get a great selection of options from their menu. Fuji is normally great, but when they put sushi in the same bag as general gau's chicken, I end up with hot sushi. Like most restaurants they used to segregate hot food from cold, but not today - everything thrown into one bag at jaunty angles, despite costing $150. I expect more care - is two paper bags too much to ask? Fuji please do better and pay attention! read more

Food is decent. Service was really nice. My review today is mainly to warn others about their price increase. We came in today and ordered sushi boat option #1 on our menu. On the menu it was listed as $47 and we got billed for $61. The server explained to us that the price increase started yesterday AFTER we got our bill. There is a small small notice on the front of the menu (I wish I took photos of it) that tell you about the price increase but it is hard to see at first. If we had been informed about this by our server beforehand, we wouldn't have ordered the sushi boat as it is a $14 difference. They should work on being transparent with their prices. Besides that, I probably will not be coming back as their food is not worth the amount of their new prices to me. It is much too expensive. read more

This place is clean and modern looking. The price is your typical high end sushi place. Although it's odd. It's a fusion of Japanese and Chinese. The hokkai yaki was yummy but it doesn't look appetizing. However, don't judge a book by its cover. It was spicy and soft and salty and just yummy. It looks more like a spicy pancake/crepe than scallops but its good. The toro nigiri was fantastic. It was fatty and i love the presentation to include gold flakes. $8 salt and pepper tofu with no salt or pepper, $22 deluxe bento box with cold hard rice (only warmed up by the salmon), cheap fish, over boiled edamame, over boiled broccoli and sweet potato for the tempura, and dry salmon with watered down teriyaki sauce. Don't even get the chicken teriyaki. It's a piece of boiled chicken with leaky teriyaki sauce drizzled on top. The sashimi didn't taste fresh. The realest thing was the mini salad. This was one of the places where it looks good but it's honestly sub-par to mediocre. Service was okay. Took awhile to get waters but I made sure each time the waitress was there I asked for spicy mayo for the crispy tofu or extra water. Expensive and no bueno. I have ordered delivery from this place numerous times because it's one of the only places I can order gluten free makimono rolls that aren't boring. There are gluten free options like spicy mayo, real red crab, and gluten free soy sauce that other sushi restaurants don't offer. Unfortunately this is really going to have to be the last time I order from them: They are terrible at following instructions. I hate the gluten free tempura bits they offer, so I go out of my way to ask them to skip them. There is a box you can tick right on the GrubHub form. I just had $66 worth of sushi delivered to my house- which includes only THREE rolls!- and every single roll has the nasty little rice balls I asked them to omit. I also paid extra to add spicy mayo to my rolls- one one the rolls is even supposed to include it for free- and I received zero. This isn't the first time they have messed up my order, so it's going to be the last time I give them a shot. For these prices, I deserve to get exactly what I asked for. read more

Their calamari is SO GOOD. Make sure you start out with this! We also tried the watermelon drink that comes inside a watermelon and I can't wait to come back and have it again. So delicious! I love this place! The sushi is always fresh and made to order, and the decor inside just adds to the experience. Their sweet crispy chili wings are so good! Perfectly crispy with a delicious sweet chili glaze. I only wish they had an option for this as an entree so that I could order more as a meal! I also ordered the lobster Rangoon. I really like their take on this because it's not too overpowered by the filling and it's not too oily like some other rangoons that other establishments make. The scorpion maki was surprisingly very good! I don't normally go for sushi with eel but all the flavors worked well together. The staff here is very nice, and actually engage in conversation with people, which is always a plus. (Especially when you wander in alone after running errands) I will be back ! They didn't have duck sauce when I was there, but the bartender made due by offering me some of their other sauces. I didn't know they made theirs fresh, so bonus points for that! read more

Surprisingly great sushi in a fun, trendy environment! I've been meaning to try one of the Fuji locations in Boston for a while now and I finally got a chance to meet up with friends at the location in Assembly Row. We went on a week night so it wasn't too crowded and had no problems grabbing a table. The restaurant is really nicely decorated, and our service was quick and friendly. They have a super extensive menu, from sushi to dumplings to noodles to rice... with a lot to choose from you can bring even the pickiest eaters here to find something they'll enjoy. I ordered the Steamed Dim Sum Shumai appetizer and Spicy Tempura Maki Katsu Style roll. The shumai was very good, but I was really impressed by the sushi! I've been to a TON of Asian restaurants with a large options for rolls and the sushi may look pretty, but is very average. I can honestly say this exceeded expectations and made me regret not ordering more rolls. I also like that some of the rolls are unique creations for Boston, such as the Rowing Down the Mystic special with crab and salmon. They also looked like they had some great Bento Box lunch specials, which I'll keep in mind for next time. Definitely would recommend this area -- there's free garage parking at the shopping center for up to 3hrs so for a midday shopping break, or a post purchasing dinner, it's super easy to grab a quick, delicious bite. read more

Hot and sour- soup is vegetarian. 5/5 Service: 3/5...Our server was friendly and refilled our teas when asked. I really like this place. Of course why not give them 5 stars? It's not perfect, I guess. I've been here too many times. My go to dish is the Singapore vermicelli noodles. The flavors in the dish are very well thought out. If you like the flavor of curry, you should give this a try. Perfect balance of spices. I also like their lobster Rangoons and wings for apps. The cocktails are alright. I mostly order food now since I never really get what I want from the drinks. Ive also ordered sushi, which is always fresh and tasty. Pricing I'll say is in the middle. Though they do have a really good lunch special menu for $16 or so you can get a good amount of food. The servers are always really friendly and open to make suggestions. Went here for lunch with a friend and everything was perfect. We both got a bento box, mine with eel and his with general gao's chicken. The bento box included tempura veggies, 3 spicy tuna pieces, spicy edamame, and a salad with yummy ginger sauce. Everything was spot on. It was A LOT of food but I couldn't stop eating because everything was delicious and well seasoned. The eel was soft and was a pretty big portion for a lunch size. I was surprised to not see any real sushi handrolls on the menu, all they had were vegetarian options for handrolls which were also quite pricey for rice, seaweed, and your choice of avocado and cucumber like ingredients. The food itself is good, there isn't too much rice on the rolls and it is a good balance of fish to rice. The restaurant itself was open and clean with a good dining ambiance. This review is only about the customer service and management or lack of it. The food is fine. If your lucky the takeout will even be hot. We placed an order for pick up and after placing the order we received a call from the hostess that they where out of pork and could not make one of the wok dishes. We asked if they could make the same dish but with beef and she got approval from a manager that they could do that but it would take another 20min to cook the dish. We said fine as we were already driving to the restaurant and said we could wait in the car. After 20 min we run in to pick up our order and the manager said the kitchen decided they didn't want to cook the dish with beef and we can have anything on the menus for free but we would have to wait another 20 min. Why!!!!!! Why didn't you call us we are sitting outside waiting and now when we come inside to get the food you tell us the kitchen said no and we'd have to wait again! Meanwhile the other food had already been packaged an waiting over 30min at this point. I'm just venting eating cold food trying to understand why the manager didn't call us back or try to make anything right with the food that was sitting there getting cold as I waisted 20min sitting in my car. The quality of the rice in Japanese cuisine and for sushi is of immense importance. I would have appreciated for better quality rice. The taste of the rice affects the quality of the sushi considerably. The decreased quality of the sushi does not meet my standards for Japanese sushi. read more

Is it just me or is the size of Fuji orders getting smaller? The cost relative to size of the rolls/sashimi/nigiri is pretty unimpressive.

Visited a couple of weeks ago and forgot to review. Great ambiance and service. Very knowledgeable staff when it comes to food allergies. We are gluten free and waiter was able to point out what we should avoid from the menu. Everything was delicious, fresh and manu gluten free options. The drinks were great too. My girlfriend and I came to Fuji after watching a movie at AMC and boy oh boy was I undressed to be at this restaurant. It definitely is on the pricier, high end scale in terms of restaurants. With that said, the food was absolutely amazing. We got a hokkai yaki for our appetizer and although the presentation wasn't good as other restaurants, the taste was amazing. Then we got a small boat which was perfect for a party of two and everything on the boat was delicious as well. The sushi was good, but nothing spectacular. I would come back here if I find myself in Assembly, but I'd never go out of my way. The other entrees were very "Americanized," meaning neither (Spicy Cumin Beef & the fish) felt authentic. Sushi at Fuji was just average for me. I've had better sushi (and drinks) at Genki Ya in Boston. We ordered 3 sushi rolls, and salt & pepper calamari appetizer. I definitely enjoyed the calamari more than the sushi. I felt they were trying to stuff a bunch of random fish and ingredients into one roll that just ruined the flavor and texture. I also got a white sangria which tasted obnoxiously sweet that I had to push it aside after a couple sips. On a positive note however, our waitress was very attentive and friendly. I enjoyed the overall atmosphere and decor. A good place for a casual date night. Maybe I'll go back to try their Chinese menu. But as far as for sushi (and delicious drinks), I'm still sticking to Genki Ya. :) read more

we had a fantastic lunch here. Parking is so easy, park in the garage next to Saks and go out the Saks exit and you'll be next to the restaurant. Kevin was our server and he was attentive, friendly and made awesome suggestions. We got the hibiscus drink which was so good. The tays tee roll was 10/10- I would come back just for this roll. Stopped in again with the intention of just getting nice quality sushi in a time crunch but instead, we got a dining experience that surpassed all our expectations. I've been a patron of the Fuji group restaurants (starting with Fuji in Quincy) so I'm familiar with their menu and their cooking style but this time, it was just different...way different. I liken this experience to striving for that next level as an up and coming Omakase worthy type place and I'm digging it. We sat at the sushi bar and didn't realize it at the time that we would be delighted with many of the head chef's complimentary sushi surprises. It's been a while since I've had such a high level of conscientiousness placed on the food preparation along with the great customer service. The head chef asked if we had a favorite fish and the rest was history. We got to try the following (refer to pics as I'm sure the off-menu items will be less descript): Seared Sake Toro Nigiri - Wow, this was AMAZING! What surprised me was that I loved it even though it's partially cooked. I'm old school. If I'm having sushi and it's not eel, it better be raw but this definitely turned it around for me. I am forever ordering this as a must-have. 5/5 Spicy Tuna lettuce wraps - Nice and light version of their spicy tuna rolls. Always tasty and I like how there's a crunch in their spicy tuna mix. Tuna sashimi in jalapeno oil - Fresh nice cuts of tuna seasoned with just enough jalapeno to give it a mild kick. So very enjoyable. Loved it! 5/5 Tuna sashimi with sesame and cucumber - Again, nothing but fresh, fresh fish and this was accented well with the crunchy bursts from the cucumber and sesame. 5/5 Makimono combo deluxe - Opted for the deluxe so we could have a couple designer rolls as opposed to the standard and so glad we did because after all the incredible sashimi creations we tasted compliments from the chef, you bet your ass we can't go back to regular rolls now. Overall, an A+++ experience and this wasn't directed only to us. All the patrons around us were treated just as wonderfully. I think it's a great concept to have people sample what they may not ordinarily have and make them customers for life once they know what they've been missing. I've never liked sushi much, but that's because I've always had bad sushi. Really bad sushi that gave me food poisoning and I hated it forever. That changed at the Assembly Bar Stars event. Fuji Assembly was one of the restaurants showcasing their cocktail and offered a sushi sample. It was seared salmon with avocado and mango in the middle. It was so good we kept going back for more. We made our way to Fuji Assembly after watching Trainwreck. Funny as hell but with a few sappy notes (the movie). Haha. We were seated right away and perused the lovely menu and ordered drinks. I ordered the pork gyoza, tempura maki, and we were able to order the sushi that was featured at the Assembly Bar Stars event!! Score!! That was really amazing of them to do that. After visiting for dinner with my friends, Fuji has become my new go-to spot for sushi. We went on a Saturday for dinner and didn't have to wait for a table. The interior decorations were well done, and the lighting was well lit but warm. Service was a little slow in the beginning but sped up later in our meal. We ordered the sweet crispy chili wings for an appetizer to share. It was indeed very crispy and full of flavor. I got the cumin beef with bell peppers, spicy tuna maki, and eel bomb maki. All were delicious. The cumin beef was extremely tender. I personally would have preferred more cumin, but it was still really good. There are also chunks of pineapple in the dish to give it nice pops of flavor. The spicy tuna maki was my favorite. It wasn't too spicy so you can really appreciate the taste of the tuna, and there were surprising bits of crunchiness that made the experience of eating them delightful. Ordered the salmon teriyaki bento box and the wings appetizer and that was enough for my boyfriend and me. The wings were ok. Nothing out of the ordinary in my opinion. I thought the lunch specials were great. You really get a bang for your buck. The box came with a bowl of miso soup, edamame, rice, 3 pieces of sushi and sashimi, 2 pieces of fried gyoza and shumai, fried veggie tempura, and of course the salmon teriyaki. My husband and I enjoyed our dinner here on a Monday night. It was a quiet night and although we made reservations, we could have picked where to sit because there were maybe 3 other small parties of people there. I ordered an udon soup that came with tempura. It was really delicious and comforting especially on the cold evening (mind you, I live in Hawaii). I was surprised how filling and big the portion was considering it was one of the cheapest things on the menu. The soup had vegetables (yummy mushrooms) and the plate of tempura had shrimp and various vegetables. I walked out as a content customer and felt warm! Warning those who visit the store of their price increase that they don't inform you upfront!! Our group of 6 visited the restaurant recently and ordered a sushi boat and other dishes and drinks. It wasn't until the end when our bill came we noticed that all the prices on the check was off from what's listed on their menu. And I'm talking about $40 more for the boat we ordered amongst other increases for drinks and dishes! When we asked the waitress, she pointed to a little sticker at the front of the menu that indicates they had a price increase. The sticker is very easily missed and most would assume that the prices listed inside the menu reflects the new price AFTER the price increase because many restaurants do this recently where they have a price increase so they inform the patrons upfront of the new prices (which is very nice of them). But nope, not here. Apparently the prices inside their menus are the OLD prices and they do not indicate the new prices anywhere. I guess they expect you to ask them for all the new prices? And that brings me to my next complaint which is why would the waitress not tell us upfront that the prices in the menu are incorrect especially when we are ordering a boat that would cost us $40 more than stated?? That is a 28% increase of the price which is not minor!! If we would've known about the new prices especially on the boat, we would definitely not have gotten the boat and we probably wouldn't even have eaten at this restaurant. Their lack of transparency feels very dishonest and unethical to me because they could technically use their own discretion for how much to charge for everything anytime and even charge every single table differently if they wanted to. I don't typically write reviews and almost never complain about any place but this really didn't sit right with me. It's too late for our group and the experience really ruined our night (and we needed a second dinner because the tiny amount of sushi served on the boat was laughable... that we paid $180 for) but I hope this review helps warn others who are visiting the restaurant. read more
